Starting on Friday, we have the World Athletics Championships at the Olympic Stadium in London.

QUOTE
Usain Bolt and Mo Farah take to the global stage one last time at the London 2017 World Championships from 4-13 August, bidding to crown their track careers with more gold medals.

Jamaican Bolt, who has completed the 100m-200m sprint double at the past two World Championships, plans to compete in the 100m and 4x100m relay as he bids farewell to the sport.

Great Britain's Farah, who will switch to road racing next season, seeks to complete an unprecedented fifth double in the 5,000m and 10,000m, having won both titles at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, as well as at the 2013 and 2015 World Championships.

Other home British medal hopes include Laura Muir in the 1500m and 5,000m, Katarina Johnson-Thompson in the heptathlon, Andrew Pozzi in the 110m hurdles, Sophie Hitchon in the hammer and walker Tom Bosworth.

Will you be watching this, live on BBC from Friday evening at 6pm.

Looking forward to seeing Bolt for possibly the final time, Farah, Van Niekirk who broke Michael Johnson's 400m world record at the Olympics last year. He goes for the 200m/400m double as well.

Well done to Mo Farah in winning an thrilling 10,000m race. His 5th global gold in the men's 10,000m. What a long distance runner he is, he was tested but found more in the end.

The arrogant c**t in Justin Gatlin won the 100m. Reckon he might have taken something following the sudden improvement run in the final. Wouldn't be surprised if he had. He was poor in the semis.

A bit gutting seeing as it was Bolt's last solo race and all </3 Although he could still get the relay and all. I don't like Gatlin at all, though I'm not really a fan of the constant booing he gets.

He didn't need to hush the crowd after winning though. He was bound to get booed. Yes he's the most profilic drugs cheat in athletics. He's not the only athlete in the Championship who has. Another athletes have. But he has always been an arrogant c**t. Can't stand the f***er. But the only person who would be booed. We'll see.

But it is sport at the end of the day.

Pupils looked big in his interview with Phil Jones from the BBC though.

Yeah, I had a feeling Gatlin would win. Bolt seemed a bit off-focus whereas Gatlin didn't take any of the boo's to heart.

The BBC's coverage has been poor with the over-biased of Farah, Johnson-Thompson who is a choker. Keep Michael Johnson, Steve Backley and Gabby Logan. But get rid of Jackson, Lewis and Cram. Shame Brandon Foster is retiring from commentating.

And Steve Cram has got worse following Gatlin winning.

I'm just glad we will never see that stupid Boltdown clock ever again. Its bad enough we've still got to endure the Mo time clock for the 5000 metres. Its pathetic and makes the sport look rather pitiful. Athletics doesn't need the bias bullshit that the BBC put out, they should be ashamed of themselves which is why I'm glad Gatlin won tonight. Michael Johnson is the only saving grace of the BBC coverage of Athletics.

Blake failed a drugs test.

Gatlin winning tonight does bring back memories of Steve Cram a few years back yelling that athletics had been saved after Bolt beat Gatlin - which even by sports commentator standards was one of the most hyperbolic statements in many years.

Can you blame them, though? All these commentators and pundits are former athletes. They're seeing the sport they have dedicated most of their lives to becoming a bit of a joke to many people because of people like Gatlin. Bolt may really have been the saviour of athletics over the last nine years. Look at the 30 fastest times ever in the men's 100 metres, the blue riband event, and Bolt is the only one with a time in there who hasn't been suspended due to drugs.

As for Gatlin, I'm already sick of all the hot takes about how it's good that he won. Even aside from the doping, the first time he raced against Bolt he spat in his lane. He's a disgusting throwback to all of the very worst aspects of the American sprinters who had previously dominated sprinting for decades. At least if Coleman had won it could have been seen as a passing of the torch.

I don't actually think Gatlin was actually on anything last night, but that's sort of redundant. It's been shown that doping earlier in your career can allow you to continue to train hard and avoid as many injury setbacks when you hit your 30s, even after you're no longer putting anything illegal into your body. He's four years older than Bolt, and has been the most consistent of any of the top sprinters in the world over the last few years when it comes to setting fast times every year. I'm willing to accept that his first ban as a junior was an honest mistake (as will most who read up on it) but he's a perfect example of why being caught taking testosterone or steroids as a senior athlete should get you banned for life.

What?

This isn't the message athletics needed. He's a vile arrogant man in Gatlin. Twice he should be banned for life. It would still in there.

Bolt is the GOAT in sprinting.

No need for the cameras to show 2 minutes of pole vaulter Holly Bradshaw crying inconcealable after failing 4.75m to go into bronze.

I was surprised to see Usain Bolt lose the 100 m final and it's a shame that it was the drug addict Justin Gatlin who beat him. The female Jamaican sprinter lost last night as well after being tipped to win. I wonder if the Jamaican period of dominance is coming to an end?

Katarina -Johnson-Thompson seems to miss out on the medal places frequently but she will probably have a better chance in 2 years time when the next World Championships take place.

Katarina Johnson-Thompson doesn't have the killer instinct to win a medal at a Worlds and Olympics. At a Commonwealth Games possibly. But she again failed.

Well done to Tori Bowie on winning the womens 100m and great to see Schippers won bronze.

Johnson-Thompson did well to put herself into contention over the last five events after an absolute shocker of a high jump by her standards. I expected her head to really drop after that as it's been clear in the past that she's lacked the resolve to get over setbacks, but she ended up with a solid score. She'll wind up with a couple of medals eventually as she's genuinely world class in two or three of the seven events, which gives her a big advantage if she can rack up big scores in those. Thiam looks like she's going to have the gold locked down for a long time, though.

I can see Thiem having Carolina Kluft's and Jess Ennis domination in the heptathlon for the next few years providing she stays injury-free.

I would like to see Johnson-Thompson win a medal. She's still young.
QUOTE

Steve Cram: I'm never going to sit here - I'm really sorry - I'm never going to sit here and be an apologist for Justin Gatlin or what he represents.

Gabby Logan: You don't have to apologise to anyone here.

Michael Johnson: Why don't you mention all of the other people? Because how is it that Justin Gatlin stands out so far above in your mind and other people's mind above all the other drug cheats? Explain the difference between him and the others.

SC: I've talked on air about Marion Jones...

MJ: Come on, Marion?

SC: OK, Rashid Ramzi. Seriously, on air, all the time.

MJ: Seriously, what about the people who are here though. What about today? The people that are here.

SC: I think I said yesterday that one man shouldn't carry all of the hate and one man shouldn't get all of the love, which is Bolt, that's what he represents.

If we acquiesce all the time, which is what we have done, we're all responsible in our sport for allowing this situation to over a number of years to arrive. We let our federations be badly run. We let the people who were meant to be looking after our sport ride roughshod over all the things we call dear. We are partly responsible for that.

Now that we are in the media we have a responsibility, within reason, to educate people.

MJ: I don't disagree with you there but I think that we've done a poor job of educating because we created a story that was not accurate. We created a villain and hero story that created most of this.

The fact that Justin Gatlin was in this stadium in 2012 and no one booed him is proof of that. In 2015 when Gatlin was starting to get close to Bolt and people were getting fed up of the drug situation, we created this narrative and we didn't do a good job of educating people about all of the drug cheats in the sport and how they've gotten away with it. To your point, what the federation has not done, we didn't educate them about that. We gave them a representative.

SC: I've only ever tried to deal in facts. I don't know Justin Gatlin very well; I don't know if he's a nice guy or a bad guy. The other people that I might suspect and there might be a few here who are cheating, I can't say anything until they've failed a test and they've been given a ban. Then that becomes a fact.

Admittedly because Gatlin is in our faces, that gets repeated and repeated more than a guy who finished 12th in the discus. That just happens to be, it's not his fault, it's just that he happens to be in the 100m and he's against Bolt. Inevitably he has become the villain or people have decided to make him the villain. I hope I've never called him a villain, I hope [that]I've just said, 'This guy has failed two drugs tests'.

I try when I'm commentating in Diamond League to say it where I think it's relevant; I can't say it all the time because I would never get any commentating done.

MJ: I think you have presented him as a villain; that we have presented him as a villain. I think that was something that we have the responsibility to educate and that we have to do a better job of educating going forward, educating the fans on all the goings on with regard to doping as opposed to pinning it on one person because they are going to believe that once that person is gone and extracted from the sport that everything will be great and it will not.

An interesting conversation which took place last night before the medal ceremony between Michael Johnson and Steve Cram.

I understand both points. Johnson is on record as saying that he thinks the punishment should be harsher for dopers. I can understand why he feels it's a strange situation where one of them gets booed far more than any other.
