"What Do You Mean?" marks Bieber's first #1 as a solo artist, let alone his first #1 debut. He knocks down previous champions Calvin Harris and Disciples to #2 with "How Deep Is Your Love" and previous runner up The Weekend to #3 with "Can't Feel My Face". There's a bit of a shake-up in the top 5 as Five Knives worm their way to #4 with "Savages".

The top 10 is bookmarked with debuts as Taylor Swift manages to enter with her controversial single, "Wildest Dreams", at #10. This is her third top 10 debut, but can it become her 4th #1? Besides Taylor and Biebs, another song enters the top 20: Flo Rida manages to slip into the top 20 with Robin Thicke and Earth Wind & Fire guitarist Verdine White in "I Don't Like It, I Love It", up a spot to #20. In addition, one song enters the top 30. Ellie Goulding is speculated to release a single in a few weeks time, but for now she's present in Major Lazer's "Powerful", up 5 spots to #28 this week.

Two new debuts shake up the top 40 this week. There was about to be an absence of Nick Jonas on the charts - well only he can fix that. His latest single "Levels" manages to debut at #35. Can it make top 10 like his other songs? Also making a splash is Australian producer Thomas Jack with "Rivers" at #39. Two more songs debut at the lower end of the chart, bringing the total up to 6. Elle King was first featured in BJSC with "America's Sweetheart", but her actual single, "Ex's & Oh's" manages to debut at #46 this week. Also being affected by the VMA's are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (and a bunch of other artists with them whom I don't want to write the names of, lest my phone runs out of space) with their latest single, "Downtown".

For the first time ever, the two Greatest Gainer recipients have not entered a different section of the chart! Birthday boy Zedd and Pitch Perfect 2 star Hailee Steinfeld share the honors with "Papercut" and "Love Myself", up 7 spots to #13 and #21 respectively. The biggest dropper this week is Tough Love and Ginuwine with "Pony (Jump On It)", down 15 spots to #41. In its 34th week, "Talking Body" drops a spot to #48.
