A Very Merry Listmas!

We're coming close to the end of the decade and so alongside the EOY I will be running a separate thread to showcase the best of the decade.

The EOD chart will be commencing sometime in January but until then I'll be doing a few other rewind-y things... starting with a recap of the #1 singles of the past decade.

Until then you can predict which songs and artists you expect will be announced as my biggest smashes in Thermo's hot history!

Context: Chart began on this date when I also signed onto Buzzjack. I also made backdated charts to the start of 2010 but I no longer count those as being official. This recently released dubstep instrumental track became my first #1 narrowly beating Taio Cruz' 'Dynamite' (#2) and Yolanda Be Cool & D Cup 'We No Speak Americano' (#3 - but would've been #1 for a few weeks beforehand, and was also the EOY #1 for 2010).
Did It Deserve #1? No. I should've given it to 'We No Speak Americano' as that really deserved an 'official' #1 peak in my chart, but the song was a few months old by that time.

Did It Deserve #1? Definitely. I don't revisit it much now but it was a big fave at the time.

Did It Deserve #1? Probably not. I should've given it to the week's #2 'Barbra Streisand' really, but that did eventually go #1.

Did It Deserve #1? No, I should've given it to Tinie's 'Miami 2 Ibiza' with Swedish House Mafia instead, which sat at #4 this week and climbed to #2 for the following 2 weeks.

Did It Deserve #1? Absolutely not. This is the #1 I most regret, particularly as it denied Rihanna getting there with 'Only Girl' and I recall it was very close between the two that week.

Context: Peak Rihanna, and after her X Factor performance this quickly zoomed up to #1. It denied the year's winner Matt Cardle a #1, alongside tracks from deadmau5/Wolfgang Gartner, Avicii/Sebastien Drums, Armand van Helden/Steve Aoki and... Britney Spears!
Did It Deserve #1? Yes. It remains one of her best tracks. That Avicii track really should've been a #1 too although he'd eventually get more than plenty of those.

'Who's That Chick' and 'What's My Name' dominating those last few weeks of 2010 was the best. I still love both songs!

My taste was very different then also, I was more into chart music than I am now, most of those #1s wouldn't get there in today's climate.

Did not realise Duck Sauce was a collaboration between those two but Barbara Streisand was a real tune anyway
Like A G6 is probably my favourite from that list though, one of the few songs that caught my attention back when I wasn't particularly into chart music.

Did It Deserve #1? Absolutely! Especially as it ended up as my EOY #1 and is to this day one of the most successful songs in Thermo's hot hits.

Party Rock Anthem was my Mainstream Song of 2011, I don't go back to it at all now sadly and I do think a lot of my love for it came from the fact that everyone at school was obsessed with it but it is still a very good song. Changed The Way You Kissed Me is a really good track as well, I always love dance & rap in the same song so Example was right up my street.

I really liked any will.I.am/BEP single around that time. It's a rather catchy song too.

PRA still such a good track, it's going to be very very high in my EOD.. Absolutely loved CTWYKM as well, that will be top 100.

all three are amazing but have to say Greyhound is a fair bit better than Antidote imo.

It's kind of surprising that Fuse ODG stopped having hits considering the likes of J Hus and NSG that have had big hits since he fell off (not to mention Drake culture vulturing afrobeat). 'Boa Me' deserved better. x

Million Pound Girl is my favourite Fuse track, it would definitely have deserved #1 in my chart if I had one back then Giant In My Heart, Cheerleader, My Head is a Jungle and The Days are favourites also (still disappointed The Days was never released in the UK )

Thermo's hot hits | 2010s Top 1000 | EOD 2010-2019

The Number Ones Recap will be resuming at some point but I'm too excited to wait now that the Chart of the Decade is... finally ready!

As it's an End of Decade special instead of a Top 250 as I normally do for the year it will be expanding to 1000! In theory this means we could see 100 songs from each year of the decade, but that most certainly won't be the case (2010 particularly will be under-represented). There'll even be a few songs from other decades thrown in the mix as this is a chart based on what I've been listening to the most (I did think about starring out old songs but there's only about 60 of them and a few of those I didn't discover until the 2010s anyway).

What to expect? Well firstly there'll be a load of Avicii - he has 39 entries. But will he have the #1? Other artists we'll be seeing a lot from include Armin van Buuren, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Disclosure, Drake, Gareth Emery and Rihanna.

The first few sections will have very limited commentary otherwise we'll be here all year but I'll link to YouTube (click on the number if it's underlined) some songs you may have not heard of.

Chart runs will be top 50 only as sourced from my Chart Runs thread. Dates are when the song entered the chart (unless the song did not chart, then I'll just put its year of release). Tiebreaks will be decided my which songs I prefer.

And finally before we start let's take a look at the honourable mentions - 25 songs passed 500k sales (made up of chart points and playcount) but failed to reach the Top 1000.

I imagine it must have been huge in Europe, it didn't feel all that big here despite going to #1 though, it had a short run.
yep, it really was a once in a generation type hit for Eurovision, we may never get anything quite like it ever again.
it certainly was my fave of the 'viral hits' this decade.

Yep, don't want to drag it out all year so hopefully it'll all be done before March.
985 A few indie songs did make it big in my chart but it was quite a rarity and even moreso now.
972 Screechy vocals aren't really my thing but Luciana's is great particularly on that song (which would've been very high on my EOD 00s chart if such a thing existed)
962 Marlon was a OHW in my chart as well, never got into that other song.
956 There will be a fair few more from the album to come although SIS is the second-highest Album Track from it.
949 It was but I can see how it easily got forgotten, it's not even one I revisit very often (I've been going through each and every track here except for the Christmas music and some of these are real blasts from the past ).

Hey Porsche is probably one of my least faves in this rundown too, it's had a whopping... 2 plays since 2013 (one of those being yesterday going through the chart).

I recall 'New Age' somewhat from it getting Radio 2 airplay, wasn't much of a fan though - Marlon only had the one hit in my chart.

Lots of songs I enjoy so far

Freak Of The Week, What About Us, Mama Do The Hump, Talking Body, Passionfruit are all great from the ones that just missed out.

Stolen Dance & No Porsche are 2 great tunes from the decade that I haven't listened to for too long.

Oliver Twist is a great song. Shame D'Banj never really had any more success, it was such a unique hit at the time,

I loved Heatwave at the time. I actually prefer that Wiley than the 'serious grime' Wiley he's trying to do again now.

I remember being disappointing when So Freakin Tight missed the top 10 because of streaming. I think it was at least one of the first to do so. Not such a big fan of it now.

Work From Home was released on my 18th birthday and is probably my favourite 5H song.

No Regrets has rubbish verses but I still love that chorus.

I also like One More Time, Pound The Alarm, Va Va Voom, Budapest, Ladbroke Grove, Sorry For Party Rocking, Don't Mind, Booyah, Big For Your Boots, Funky Friday, Fine Girl, Iris, Put Your Hands Up For Detroit & Sorry.

I don't think I ever heard another song of D'Banj's. Clearly he was only ever meant to have one hit.
I'm not into 'serious grime' at all so I'd have to agree. It's a bit lol that he's now dissing Stormzy for whatever it is, when he had multiple "sellout"/dancepop eras in the 2010s (including his Roll Deep stuff) and worked with Ed Sheeran (although before he was a huge name).
I haven't revisited So Freakin Tight much since its release, it's not even on Spotify anymore for whatever reason so that doesn't help anyway. Pony aged a fair bit better.
Work from Home is 5H's only song in this rundown so I'd have to agree - although we will of course see Camila a bit later on.
They were a bit rubbish but enjoyably so - 'I'm a changed man now... Chris Brown' though now that is a lyric that hasn't aged well. (although it wasn't ever a great lyric)

quite a few of these had poor chart runs but racked up the plays regardless, I never loved 'Sorry' but it was consistent for a while, I'd say its position here is deserved it is admittedly a good pop tune. not the last we'll see of Bieber in this rundown too.

Stay is such an underrated Kygo track! It's not my absolute favourite, I'd probably rank it behind Higher Love, Firestone and It Ain't Me but it still sounds brilliant a few years on.

Wasn't expecting to see Little Talks, Stolen Dance, Budapest, Funky Friday, Feel It Still, i hate u i love u and Bad and Boujee in your top 1000 but they're all great songs! I was obsessed with Flute at the time but got bored of it relatively quickly, particularly when Lethal Bizzle got on it.

Connection Through Sound was a great BJSC entry, Never Be Like You really deserved to be a hit, loved Booyah a lot in 2013, same for No Regrets in 2011, One Day (Vandaag) in 2014 and Turn The Music Louder (Rumble) in 2015, Seek Bromance, Different World and Play are still amazing and Stay is definitely one of Kygo's best, love it!

So many others I really enjoy here too!

1024 - I'm not sure if I've ever heard the original, I only know it from the single mix with will.I.am.
955 - Yes that would've been nice but I can put up with a little bit of DJ Khaled shouting I guess.
932 - Well there has to be a few surprises here, but yes I was never as fond of that as many other of Avicii's productions.
881 - and Hold My Hand will be a fair bit further up
866 - a great first #1 for you then, I don't recall what the first #1 I heard on the radio was as it was quite some time ago.
841 - she'll make a few more appearances too.
811 - even now all these years later then, I'm surprised.
805 - yes and even by myself, haven't listened to it much recently but it is great.

I'd have to agree it is underrated, although not his best track for me either, I'd rank it behind all those you list plus a few others.

well out of 1000 songs a few of them had to be non-EDM but yes they're all great (well Budapest did tire on me a bit from overexposure, but I did enjoy it a fair bit at the time and that's what this chart is partly a measure of)
have to say I didn't care for Lethal Bizzle's pointless version of Flute and by that time the song was well old anyway.

I still miss him a lot, I'm just glad they managed to finish his album well anyhow.

'No Beef' is quite a tune although one I haven't played too often since its release. Afrojack hasn't been that great in the last few years for me.

Turn The Music Louder (Rumble) made #1 in my chartat the time and while I still like it, it sounds very anomalous compared to the pretty much everything else that's hit #1 since.

Earthquake is another that made #1 for me. It's still one I listen to regularly, though it seems like it's been largely forgotten elsewhere. It probably say it's my favourite DJ Fresh track.

There's actually quite a few songs that made my #1 in the last sections. The others are Bad & Boujee, 2 On, Bump & Grind 2014, Of The Night, Lalala, Fancy, Rhymes, iSpy, What I Might Do & Queen's Speech 4. Pretty good section of tracks, the only one I don't go back to anymore is Bump & Grind.

She Doesn't Mind & Buzzin would have for sure also made the top spot if I was doing my chart back then.

No Beef is a track I completely forgotten about until a couple of weeks ago where it popped in my head randomly. I was obsessed with that one at the time.

Plenty of other great tracks in here too, My other favourites being Dibby Dibby Sound, MotorSport, Zeze, All The Stars, I Cry, Back In Time, Don't, She Doesn't Mind, Fake Love, Say Something, Basslinke Junkie, IN2 & Anaconda.

Lots of very nice songs so far, though particularly glad to see Eric Prydz's Tether remix, such a euphoric reimagining of the song I find The Feeling very underrated and it gives me a good *ahem* feeling so I'm pleased to see it in someone else's chart.

Loving the retro picks from Daft Punk, Chicane and Mike Oldfield too naturally *.*

TTML does seem quite forgotten for a #1 hit. I enjoy it but there were a lot of better dance hits.
I don't revisit Earthquake that much. DJ Fresh had a few better songs for me.
I still enjoy Bump & Grind 2014 somewhat although again it wasn't one of the absolute best of its time.
Quite a few you like then! There should be a good few more higher up the chart hopefully.

I'm not familiar with the original Tether, Eric Prydz very much sells the track for me.
The Feeling is rather good too although DJ Fresh has a few more still to come.

I quite enjoyed Drake's Fake Love at the time too, though it's been ages since I last listened to it! Started From The Bottom was also decent from him.

Dear Darlin', Crying For No Reason, Everything You Never Had (We Had It All), Mi Gente and of course Despacito are other highlights from 800-701. Sun Goes Down was great too, wish it had become a hit.

Agreed on Shut Up being Stormzy's best track, and great to see another fan of Feder's Goodbye in here! Dare You still sounds brilliant as well.

Sun Goes Down really should've been a hit, typically its UK release was screwed up and by the time it finally got released it limped in right at the bottom end of the top 100.
Goodbye was a great BJSC discovery back in the day (the now inactive Kathaldazia sent it), then of course it ended up being a big Eurosmash too.

There'll be more to come from Sigala, and John Newman too although only twice more and once as a feature.

I've still got three Nero tracks to appear but yes COY got a bit too much hate, it wasn't quite as good as their leads but still a tune.
I'd be surprised if Adele ever manages to top 'Rolling', it's such a well written song.

A lot more great tunes in the past few sections.

Middle, Get Out Of My Head & Down On Me are all songs I loved at the time but haven't thought about in ages. I will have to give them another listen soon.

The songs that made #1 in my chart are Shut Up, Chained To The Rhythm, Turn Back Time, Broccoli & Humble. Wings, Dominick The Donkey & Level Up probably would have too.

My other favourites are Say Something, Blow Your Mind (Mwah), House Work, Did You See, Swalla, Girls Like, Bestie, Man's Not Hot, Wolves, Pyscho, Ring Ring & Taste.

I can't listen to Say Something without thinking of Karen Harding at the FA Cup final where she was supposed to sing the National Anthem but completely missed her cue and was just standing there while everyone else is singing. Poor woman

it's definitely one of his best efforts - however Swimming Pools is just above it in this chart.
I'm not a huge fan of hers so I don't mind the wait but it would be nice to hear another new song from her this year.
I didn't listen to the album but from what was released as singles this was definitely the right choice of lead.

That must've been awkward for her, I don't watch the FA Cup though.

Some more brilliant songs in that section there, Whole Heart is a real favourite of mine and a real grower, Tobtok's Fast Car was always much better than Jonas Blue's for me and Lullaby is my favourite Sigala song out of his recent ones! And of course I love Peace of Mind also.
