I wonder how different the rankings will look at the end of the year.
Andy Murray was beaten by Russia's Daniil Medvedev as he lost 7-5 6-2 in the second round of the Brisbane International.
Johanna Konta withdrew from the Sydney International for a second time in two days.
Harriet Dart is through to the second round of qualifying for the Australian Open, she needs two wins to reach the main draw.
British number two Cameron Norrie reached the ASB Classic quarter-finals with a straight-set victory over Joao Sousa in Auckland.
Andy Murray has announced his retirement from tennis by saying the Australian Open could be his final event although he hopes to retire at Wimbledon is because of his hip problems, it's a shame to him retire, the best British male tennis player that we've had. 3-time Grand Slam champion, twice a winner at Wimbledon, won the ATP Tour World Final to reach #1 in the rankings, won the Davis Cup with Great Britain, twice a Olympic champion. The press conference sad to see with him obviously emotional.

Really sad about Murray, without a doubt he's one of the best ever. I suspect the practice match against Djokovic made him think it's time to call quits. I'd have loved to have seen him win another few Grand Slams as he deserves it.

A shame to see Murray go although his achievements so far are still amazing. Hopefully we've got another GB star in Edmunds.
Andy Murray comes from 2 sets down to 2-2 but loses the final set 6-2 against Roberto Bautista Agut in a match lasting more than four hours. A heroic effort put in by him in what might be his last match.
In terms of British interest at the Australian Open-
Mens: Drugs cheat Dan Evans through to the second round, Kyle Edmund out lost in straight sets to Berdych.
Women's:
Harriet Dart losing 6-0 6-0 to drugs cheat Maria Sharapova, Heather Watson out 6-1 6-2 to 32nd seed Petra Martic. But Katie Boulter through against 2015 semi-finalist Ekaterina Makarova 6-0 4-6 7-6 (10-6)
Shame to see Murray lose in that epic.
Konta didn’t play great but just manages to get the job done. Let’s hope this gives her the confidence to play better in the 2nd round.
Kevin Anderson is out of the Australian Open after being beaten in four sets by American Frances Tiafoe.
They're playing very late at the Australian Open today. It's 2.45am.
Johanna Konta and Garbine Muguruza are 3-3 in the final set.
They finished at 3.12am with Muguruza winning the final set 7-5. A shame there were only a few spectators left in the stadium by the end,it was a very good match.
Djokovic through in four against Shapovalov the player who smashed a tennis ball at an.umpire during a Davis Cup match against GB.
Federer out in the fourth round and Zverev who want out to Raonic.
It's sad that Federer is out. Although I hope Tsitsipas does well in this tournament, men's tennis does need another younger up and coming player.
Yes it does need another young.player making that breakthrough. A.missed opportunity for Zverev.
Serena through to the quarters in a thriller against Halep.
Serena Williams reaches her 50th Grand Slam quarter-final with that win over Halep.
Hopefully she bottles the chance to equal the record yet again.
Petra Kvitova is into the semi-final with a 6-1 6-4 win over Ashleigh Barty.
It's her first Grand Slam semi-final since she won Wimbledon in 2014.
Rafael Nadal beats Frances Tiafoe in straight sets to reach the Australian Open semi-final.
Nadal vs Tsitsipas should be a cracker that in the semi-final.
Naomi Osaka through to the semis in straight sets.
In the other men's semi-final, it will be Djokovic v Pouille.
Nadal beat Tsitsipas in straight sets to go through to the final.
It will be an Osaka v Kvitova final then.
SO happy for Osaka! She got the celebrate the win properly this time too. Must be a long while since someone other than Williams won back-to-back Slams in the Women's game? She's such a humble and polite person too, would be great for her to be the next dominant female player.
That was a great final. Osaka did well to keep her composure after collapsing in the second set. The womens' tournament has been much more interesting to watch compared to the mens' so I hope we get a really good mens' final tomorrow with the top 2 seeds playing each other.
Fantastic from Osaka who becomes the first Asian tennis World No.1. Great effort.from Kvitova good to see her back to her best following that horrific knife injury.
What a performance from Djok that was! No contest at all there, was hoping for a better final but what can you say Rafa barely got a look in. Certainly will be interesting to see what happens if they meet in the French Open final.
Seems fitting that the three greatest players in mens tennis history now all own a record for most wins in their best slams. Federer - 8 Wimbledon, Nadal - 11 French and Novak - 7 Australian

She added she hopes to return for Wimbledon qualifying in June.

Roger Federer has criticised Italian Open organisers for doubling ticket prices after it was confirmed he would play.
Federer, 37, is playing the clay-court season for the first time since 2016.
The number three seed, who has a first-round bye and will begin his tournament against Portugal's Joao Sousa, said the decision was "disappointing".
"They made it in a way like they rewarded the fans who bought tickets earlier, which is sort of strange."
Federer added: "I just really hope it doesn't take away the fact I'm really happy to be here. There's going to be good crowds hopefully, good atmosphere."
Former French Open champion Maria Sharapova has withdrawn from this year's tournament because of her long-standing shoulder problem.
The 32-year-old world number 35 has not played since pulling out of an event in her native Russia at the end of January and had a small operation in February.
"Sometimes the right decisions aren't always the easiest ones," the five-time Grand Slam winner said.

Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of the French Open with illness on Friday.
Kyrgios, who was due to play British number two Cameron Norrie in the first round, is said to have been "wiped out" by the bug.
Wimbledon champion Angelique Kerber said the pain from an ankle injury was "not my excuse" after her shock first-round exit at the French Open.
The German fifth seed lost 6-4 6-2 to world number 81 Anastasia Potapova.
Regarding British interest in the men's, Edmund is through to the second round in five sets after beating Chardy. Norrie is out after losing 6-3 6-0 6-2 to French qualifier Elliot Benchetrit.
World number one Naomi Osaka survived another early scare to reach the third round of the French Open.
Japan's Osaka, 21, overcame a poor start to beat two-time Grand Slam champion Victoria Azarenka 4-6 7-5 6-3.
Surely now it is about time that Hawkeye was used in the French Open?
Novak Djokovic gained a routine win over 'lucky loser' Henri Laaksonen to move into the third round of the French Open.
Djokovic, who won the 2016 competition, secured a 6-1 6-4 6-3 victory on Court Suzanne Lenglen in Paris.
Serena is out
The Tsitsipas - Wawrinka match was an absolute classic before. It was certainly great to see some sport played at the highest level after the dreadful Champions League final last night.
Backing Stan the Man to win the whole thing.
Djokovic through comfortably to the quarters in straight sets.
Kei Nishikori extinguished the hot-headed Benoît Paire’s fiery challenge to book his place in the quarter-finals with a five-set thriller.
Dominic Thiem comfortably through he beats Gael Monfils 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the quarter-finals. He'll play the winner of Juan Martin del Potro and Karen Khachanov.
Reigning French Open champion Simona Halep moved into the quarter-finals of the 2019 tournament with a 6-1 6-0 win over Polish teenager Iga Swiatek.
Andy Murray is planning to make his return to competitive tennis in the doubles at the Fever-Tree Championships at Queen's Club later this month.
The Briton, 32, has not played since the Australian Open and had a hip resurfacing operation in January.
The former world number one, who has since said he is "pain-free", will partner Spain's Feliciano Lopez.
Johanna Konta is through to the semi-finals with a straight sets win over Sloane Stephens.
That was a great performance by Johanna Konta. She now plays Marketa Vondrousova in the semi-final. A very good opportunity to reach the final.
A Federer/Nadal semi-final as they both beat their respective opponents in Warwinka and Nishikori.
It's a complete washout today then.
Eurosport have just said the remaining quarters will be played tomorrow, all 4 semi finals on Friday then finals on Saturday and Sunday.
I would think that ITV could put the racing on ITV4 if Konta made the final.
Amanda Anisimova has reached the semi-finals of the French Open with a straight sets win over defending champion Simona Halep.
Romanian third seed Halep, 27, lost 6-2 6-4 to the unseeded 17-year-old.

The world number 51 will face Australian eighth seed Ashleigh Barty, who beat American Madison Keys 6-3 7-5.
Konta will never ever have a better chance of winning a Slam. One again the seedings on the Women's side proving completely misleading.
Friday's schedule
Confirmation of tomorrow’s semi-final schedule:
Lenglen 10am BST/11am local time
Barty v Anisimova
Mathieu 10am BST/11am local time
Konta v Vondrousova

Federer v Nadal
Djokovic or Zverev v Thiem or Khachanov
Thiem through to the semi-final he beats Khachanov 6-2, 6-4, 6-2 and well most likely play Djokovic in the semi-finals.
She messed that one up then. 5-3 40-15 ahead in the first set,and 5-3 ahead in the second set. Her nerves and lack of confidence have cost her the match.
It will be an Ashleigh Barty v Marketa Vondrousova final then.
Ah well maybe next time Jo!
I've never heard of either of the finalists so this will be an interesting watch.
Pretty astonishing the French Open doesn't have a roof...
Not one until next year. Schedule the last two days has been a shambles.
Thiem through to the final and plays Nadal. Beats Djokovic in 5 sets.
Incredible 12th French Open title for the 'God of Clay' Nadal beating Thiem in four sets.
It was never in doubt the moment the tournament opened really. Thiem played so well in the first 2 sets though, some amazing rallies in set 1. He'll get there! (When Rafa retires)

Stayed up to watch Osaka-Gauff, best I've seen Osaka play this year
Djokovic retiring hurt in yesterday's match against Wawrinka due to an shoulder injury. And the US crowd weren't happy as Djokovic left to boos.
Osaka defeated, but Bencic played so much better, so no complains
Zverev as crap as usual
Johanna Konta missed out on the US Open semi-finals after she was worn down by Ukrainian fifth seed Elina Svitolina.
Konta, 28, was unable to impose herself in a 6-4 6-4 defeat on Arthur Ashe Stadium.
The 16th seed, aiming to complete the set of major semi-final appearances, was forced into errors by 24-year-old Svitolina's impressive retrieving.
Another missed opportunity for Konta, I feel.
I forgot she was playing today. I don't have Amazon Prime so this US Open is passing me by without me really noticing it.
Konta won't win a Slim, hasn't got the ability to dig deep on the crunch points. Let's see if she ever proves me wrong.
I hope Svitolina wins it, she's been getting closer and closer over the past few years so only a matter of time before she makes her first final.
Medvedev through to his first Grand Slam semi final after beating Wawrinka in fourth sets.
Konta is playing better than ever but needs some extra consistency
but she should be a regular in the top 10, she's playing better than Barty, Osaka etc
rooting for Serena, not a Svitolina fan
surprised at yesterday's men's results... wasn't expecting Federer to lose...he's had the easiest draw
and still failed against an unseeded...
Dimitrov is the lowest-ranked Grand Slam semi-finalist since Rainer Schuettler at Wimbledon in 2008.

That was some bottle to win from Bianca after a brilliant fightback from being pegged back to 5-5 in the second set from Serena. That is a sign of a great champion. what a year she has had. Will Serena ever get the record, I wonder. Bianca Andreescu was ranked 208th in the world in the autumn last year.
I watched it on the Betfair video stream. It only occupies about 20% of the screen but it's better than nothing. I thought she'd blown it after going from 5-1 up to 5-5 but she came through in the end. There always seems to be someone each time to stop Serena equalling that record. Well done Bianca.
well deserved win, Serena played bad, so many errors
YESSS
Nadal won looks like it was an epic match, nearly 5 hours
I watched the start but it was too late to watch the whole thing

Medvedev won! He really is on fire and the best player right now, no doubt about it

it's been such an underwhelming tournament with so many retirements + bad games
watching Barty play, she's not that good, she can run but she doesn't have any signature shot

it's always the games of makes less errors

Kyle Edmund wins his match against Feliciano Lopez. A strange decision by Spain to play Lopez in that match when they had higher ranked players in their team. Maybe the others are a bit tired. Rafael Nadal will surely beat Dan Evans meaning the semi-final will be decided by the doubles match.
The 2nd Spanish, his father died the day before yesterday so he's not there anymore
The 3rd got injured playing yesterday against Argentina
Spain has not much left, relying 100% on Nadal, this Feliciano Lopez is pretty shitty
