Johanna Konta's wait for a first WTA clay-court title continues after she lost to Karolina Pliskova in the Italian Open final.

Czech world number seven Pliskova won 6-3 6-4 in one hour 25 minutes in Rome for her second title of the season.

Britain's Katie Swan and Heather Watson are through to the second round of French Open qualifying after winning their opening matches on Wednesday.

Swan, who is ranked 208th, impressed in her Roland Garros debut with a straight sets 6-4 6-2 win over second seed Jil Teichmann.

Fifth seed Watson beat the Netherlands' Bibiane Schoofs 6-2 4-6 6-4.

Swan will face China's Wang Xiyu in the second round, with Watson set to take on Greece's Valentini Grammatikopoulou.

British number two Katie Boulter has been included the French Open main draw despite pulling out of the tournament earlier this month with a back injury.

Boulter, 22, has not played since Great Britain's Fed Cup tie against Kazakhstan on 21 April but has been drawn to play 23rd seed Donna Vekic.

Nick Kyrgios has pulled out of the French Open with illness on Friday.

Kyrgios, who was due to play British number two Cameron Norrie in the first round, is said to have been "wiped out" by the bug.

Regarding British interest in the men's, Edmund is through to the second round in five sets after beating Chardy. Norrie is out after losing 6-3 6-0 6-2 to French qualifier Elliot Benchetrit.

Djokovic, who won the 2016 competition, secured a 6-1 6-4 6-3 victory on Court Suzanne Lenglen in Paris.

The Tsitsipas - Wawrinka match was an absolute classic before. It was certainly great to see some sport played at the highest level after the dreadful Champions League final last night.
