I wonder if that's my Simpsons record? I sold my copy on in about 1993!

I'll go along with that. From hereon Records it is! Ive got about 5 or 6000 records and cd's. I had a major tragedy with my very first 30 or so 45rpm's, my most precious. I bought protective synthetic covers for them, but them in a record box, and the effing material (which had no warnings on it) reacted with the vinyl and ruined them. Gutted. Now all I can do is look at them through the original sleeve and avoid taking them out of it so I dont get depressed looking at the mottling. What was the material?? |

My most recent addition was Rumours by Fleetwood Mac which was only 11 quid!
Does anyone else try and buy authentic originals when in second hand shops? Other than the date how do you know it's the original and not a rerelease like a lot of Beatles tracks in the 80s etc? |

One of my favourite vinyl purchases is Now 22 - quite rare on vinyl as the format was rapidly losing popularity by then (1992) in a dusty charity shop in Oxford. Think it was back in 2009. Cost was £1. A few days ago the same album sold on eBay for £35. Wow, I've got Now 20 on cassette. Definitely the first album I ever got (as a Christmas 1991 present), It introduced me to the KLF but I mainly played “Dizzy” (whilst spinning around and around and around in the living room - so I'm told). |

^ Ooh! I have Now 1-10 and 16 on vinyl and would love some of the 20s ones. Good find!! Quickly popped into a charity shop while waiting for the bus in hope of a good find today. In amongst lots of brass compilations, I did find a 7" 'Do The Bartman' record I have Now 6 and Now 10 on vinyl (some of the first vinyl I ever bought [13/09/2015 from my local record store. I did not get a vinyl that wasn't secondhand until I bought The Vaccines' English Graffiti 13 days after buying the NOW albums]) |

Recent vinyl additions:
Shimon and Andy C - Mutation/Genetix 12" (from my local Scope on Tuesday) Pink Floyd - The Wall [2016 180gm vinyl reissue] (got that as a name day gift on Tuesday [one of the best albums I ever heard next to The Beatles' Abbey Road]) The xx - On Hold [single-sided 7" with etching on side B] (7" from my local record store on Friday. I have both of xx's albums on vinyl, and I can't wait for the next album ) Flume - Skin Companion EP 1 (bought that along with the xx 7" from my record store. My favourite tracks from the EP are Trust and Heater) David Bowie - Blackstar (My favourite album of the year, so it was nice to receive that as a birthday gift) Leonard Cohen - You Want It Darker (Another birthday gift. This will be placed really high on my upcoming Best Albums of 2016 list. Shame that he passed away ) The Who - Be Lucky [RSD2015 blue vinyl] (My friend gave me this beauty as a gift for my birthday. The design for the 7" is really cool, because it looks like that mod symbol) Pink Floyd - The Dark Side Of The Moon [2016 180gm vinyl reissue] (Yet another birthday gift. I remember seeing a secondhand copy of this in a Sue Ryder shop months ago, when I bought Black's Wonderful Life LP to pay tribute ro the late singer Colin Vearcombe, but the LP cost £40 [they somehow knew that this record would be valuable]) I also managed to get a few CDs [Alanis Morissette's Jagged Little Pill and Oasis' Sunday Morning Call (minimax CD single)] This post has been edited by DalekTurret32: 9th December 2016, 08:44 PM |

Was in the big Sainsburys near us earlier which used to be a Savacentre. They've a lot of vinyl and was talking to the lass re-stocking and she says it's selling quite well, especially Rumours, Pink Floyd and one or two other oldies. Bit expensive though compared to the equivalent CD. Rumours for example was a fiver for the CD and the LP was £12. Maybe they need to drop the price by a quid or two.

£12 is a good price for me when buying newly-pressed vinyl.
My maximum great value would have to be £19.99 £20-£25 (e.g. Tame Impala albums, Blondie's Plastic Letters on picture disc, The Maccabees' Colour It In, Bat For Lashes' The Bride) (okay) £26 and above (e.g. Bastille's Wild World, The Magnetic Fields - 69 Love Songs [10" boxset]) (too much, I shall only buy if I really want it) For 7-inches (the maximum price for me would have to be 9.99. But 12.99 would also be acceptable) For 10-inches (the maximum price for me would have to be 14.99.) For 12-inch singles (the maximum price for me would have to be, like with the 10-inches, 14.99. If it's something 19.99, like Massive Attack's The Spoils 12", or a higher price than that, like Run-DMC's Christmas In Hollis [Black Friday exclusive picture disc, £22.99(?)], I would have to think wisely and decide if I really want it) This post has been edited by DalekTurret32: 17th December 2016, 10:22 AM |

Yeah £12 is great for a vinyl!
I see them mostly £20-£25. Definitely worth spending the extra money for what you get compared to a CD. |

I treated myself to a deck this year, a Project Debut with carbon arm, fantastic deck.
My most recent purchases of vinyl are: Frankie Goes To Hollywood - Welcome To The Pleasuredome (white vinyl) Madonna - True Blue (blue vinyl) Madonna - Like A Prayer (red vinyl) Manic Street Preachers - Everything Must Go (blue vinyl) Next purchase will be Peter Gabriel's So album (remastered) I don't tend to hunt down 'old records' and am perfectly happy with represses as long as they sound good! |
