With the onslaught of Christmas songs coming from everywhere and also a broad range of years in which these songs were created my question is who thinks it would be a great move for TT to release a Christmas single?
I know Babe was released for Christmas but I mean an actual season appropriate Christmas song. Songs that initially didn't do well for example Elton 'Step into Christmas' or Coldplay 'Christmas Lights' have still been played every year selling well (over years) despite not initially peaking high and even in Elton's case has re peaked this year. As a vocal harmony group it would be perfect for them if they could produce a great and timeless Christmas song and back in the 70's and 80's many songs were created purely for this purpose and have endured. It would also gain attention as less artists are doing these songs and would definitely gain airplay during it's initial season at least. Thoughts? I really don't understand why more big acts don't do Christmas tracks. Like you said it's an almost surefire way to gain radio play and sales year on year. If you manage to have a big Christmas hit too then you're laughing all the way to the bank. Slade, Wizzard, Shaking Stevens have basically said that their pensions are paid every year in a big way thanks to their Christmas singles...
Spice Girls and Take That really should have capitalised on it when they were big and released them, yes they both had Xmas #1s (in a big way) and they do get played (2 become 1 especially) at Christmas but a proper good catchy Christmas song would work wonders for them every year. Spice Girls should have done one in 1999 to get that 4th Christmas #1 and claim the record for most consecutive Xmas #1s over the Beatles. Would have stopped Westlife overtaking their 6 consecutive #1s record then too... |

That's true however there are songs more recent than the 80's from the last 15 years still played on radio at Christmas time and re-chart in December such as The Darkness 'Christmas Time', Coldplay 'Christmas Lights', Leona Lewis 'One More Sleep', Kelly Clarkson 'Underneath the Tree', Michael Buble 'It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas', Justin Bieber 'Mistletoe' and Matt Terry 'When Christmas Comes Around'.
I really think Gary could write a great Christmas song either for himself or the group. |

An original Christmas tune could do wonders for them if marketed right. There is certainly a gap in the market this time of year of strong original xmas tunes!

I would love (and have made no secret of my hope) for TT to release a Xmas single. I actually think if they handled Hold up a Light better that that could have been a great festive song...
