QUOTE Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's WAP was UK's most googled song lyrics of 2020
16 December 2020 | By George Griffiths Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's WAP was the UK's most Googled song lyrics in 2020. The sex-fuelled banger came out on top of Google's Year in Search 2020, as far as music lyrics were concerned. The first single from Cardi's second album, WAP united her with hot girl rapper Meg for one of 2020's most controversial hits, full of explicit lyrics that, it turns out, we all just couldn't stop googling. Turns out, we all want to be certified freaks, seven days a week. Cardi and Meg triumphed on the search list - in second was the late, great Dame Vera Lynn. The lyrics to her signature hit We'll Meet Again got a huge boost after the Queen referenced the track in her speech to the nation during the pandemic in April, and again following Lynne's death earlier this year at the age of 103. Other entrants on the list include Eminem with Godzilla, Roddy Rich with his breakout hit The Box, Billie Eilish's chart-topping James Bond theme No Time To Die. WAP's dominance on the list, of course, is no surprise. In September the song hit Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart and spent three weeks at the top, giving both Cardi and Meg their first UK Number 1 singles. While we are yet to see any more material from Cardi's sophomore LP, Meg Thee has both released her debut studio album Good News, as well as the blockbuster single viral Savage, which gained a remix courtesy of Beyonce and became the Houston rapper's first UK Top 10 single. The Top 10 most-googled lyrics of 2020 in the UK in full: 1. Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion - WAP 2. Dame Vera Lynn - We'll Meet Again 3. Eminem - Godzilla 4. Roddy Rich - The Box 5. James Thomson - Rule Britannia 6. Tones and I - Dance Monkey 7. Billie Eilish - No Time To Die 8. Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride 9. Arthur Christopher Benson - Land of Hope and Glory 10. Jawish 685 ft. Jason Derulo - Savage Love |

Surprised they're only just reporting about this now. This info along with all the other 2020 Google search data has been out since last week.

Lol ~
In all seriousness though I do wonder what the criteria for this is - I assume it must be only counting searches that specifically include the word 'lyrics'? I can understand why most of these songs have notable enough lyrics to have been heavily searched but a couple of them are a little odd (mainly looking at Billie Eilish and Jawsh 685). |

A bit too much information there Eric! Nobody says that to Cardi B! She gives a lot more personal information about herself to hundreds of millions of people (including children) all around the world every week! In all seriousness, yes, I know it's TMI. But giving up pornography is one of my greatest achievements and I encourage others to do it. It's benefited my life greatly and I want others to experience the same. I recommend it as a New Years Resolution to everybody here. |

Was pretty sure that WAP would be the #1 song (I'm presuming that WAP stands for "We Ate Protein", and is an ode to maintaining a decent amount in your diet to ensure the rebuilding of muscle).
Surprised to see 80s one-hit-wonder "Break My Stride" also making the top 10, I don't think that anything notable happened with that song this year to warrant people looking up the lyrics (unless there was something TikTok related that I forgot). |

Break My Stride was indeed a TikTok trend early in the year, the song even re-entered the official top 100 very briefly.

^ There was something TikTok related that you forgot.
I'm actually surprised that isn't higher as the trend related very specifically to its lyrics. It was a meme for a while to send unknowing people the lyrics to the song as if it were a normal conversation and see how long it takes them to notice. |

I thought it was 2019 it was being used on TikTok, but that just goes to show how long this year has felt. |

Wasn't 'Break My Stride' also used in a TV advert or was that before 2020? I just have a vague memory of hearing it during the advert break during the football on presumably Sky Sports.
