Sampha makes it a fifth week at the top with the thrilling “Blood On Me” - the longest run at number 1 since Anohni in the spring - a run that he could easily match next week, however there is (as ever) firm competition gathering below in the form of Norway’s Sløtface and fellow Londoner Jamie xx with “Take Me Dancing” and “Gosh” jumping to #2 and #3 respectively. Sampha first made my chart back in January 2011 with the beautifully simple “Valentine”, a collaboration with also then-unknown singer/songwriter Jessie Ware, which made it to #11. Most recently he scored a #2 in January 2014 with the equally beautiful and somewhat haunting “Too Much” which failed to unsettle Arcade Fire from the top spot, and after almost 6 years since his debut - he is due to release his debut LP Process imminently.

All of that means that Dan Deacon’s relentlessly upbeat and life affirming “Change Your Life (You Can Do It)” is in retreat from 2-4 this week after challenging briefly for the top, and Kanye West also descends a couple from 3-5 after spending a fortnight in the Top 3 with “Fade”. New to the top tier this week are Reading’s The Amazons who have been in the ascendant for over a year now, and finally breakthrough with the fantastic power-punch riff that “In My Mind” is built around - the track has been getting some good UK airplay and shoots up from 14-8. Also making a debut and rising in popularity for some time now are Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett, aka Nimmo (formerly Nimmo and the Gauntletts). Their eclectic mix of infectious disco pop and soaring vocals make “Dancing Makes Us Brave” an addictive listen, and they already power into the Top 10 with a leap from 15 to 10 after just 4 weeks on the chart.

The biggest climber of the week honour is taken by electronic Canadian artist Austra who is likely best known for 2010 single “Beat and the Pulse” and its NSFW video. “Utopia” is up 15 from 40-25 and is the first single to be taken from her new album Future Politics which is due for release in January 2017.

Eight debuts make the Top 50 this week, the highest comes from chart veterans The Last Shadow Puppets who scored a #1 in July 2008 with “Standing Next To Me” and had a 100% Top 10 success rate with the singles from their debut The Age of the Understatement, a feat that has not repeated this time around with highest peaking track “Aviation” stalling at #11 - however “Is This What You Wanted” (a cover of Leonard Cohen) is a standalone single taken from a forthcoming EP to be released next month and makes a strong debut at 35. Blood Orange also returns at #38 with his second single from the sprawling but vibrant Freetown Sound, entitled “I Know”, though it is likely suffer due to it following up such a huge single ( “Augustine” which dips from just 33-39 in its eighteenth week). The remaining six debuts are from Poliça - the Boys Noize Remix of new single “Kind” at forty - The Shins who return with “Dead Alive” at 45, C Duncan with “Other Side” at 47 and Temples - who were last in the chart back in early 2014 with Top 20 hit “Mesmerise” - their new single “Certainty” rounds out the 50.

Finally there are chart debuts from long-time PC music collaborator Hannah Diamond with “Fade Away” at 42 and Michael Mayer (with Joe Goddard) at 48 with “For You”.

Hey Doctor Blind,

A quite different chart to the others I have viewed, and that's a good thing too. smile.gif

Unfortunately for me, I haven't listened to many of your entries, but I will make mention of the new entry by Hannah Diamond as her vocals are heavenly! wub.gif

If you haven't already done so, please be sure to check out my latest chart HERE. I'd love to hear your views! smile.gif

Cool personal chart this week! cool.gif
