He is a very beige actor, sorry. Very very boring and seems quite gormless. The only roles he was tolerable in were Doctor Zhivago and Love Actually. He is too well-knoen to be doctor too and would take people oot of suspension of disbelief. Capaldi was far more well known when he took over than Marshall has ever been and that seems to have worked out fine. You could also say the same of Davison and arguably Tennant |

Yeah, I just can't imagine Kris Marshall carrying off being the Doctor. It doesn't help that he's permanently lodged into my head as the guy from the old BT adverts Capaldi at least already had a striking character to his name through Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It.
I'd love it to be a female Doctor, but I just don't think we're there yet (certainly not with Phoebe Waller Bridge who's too busy anyway). I imagine it'll just be someone very few have heard of a'la Matt Smith. This post has been edited by Chez Wombat: 15th July 2017, 04:18 PM |

I'm still hoping for Richard O'Brien but I suspect it'll never happen.
Cumberbatch or Eddie Redmayne would be great too but they're kind of too big for the show now This post has been edited by Severin: 15th July 2017, 04:31 PM |

One suggestion I've seen is Damien Molony, aka Hal in Being Human. Would be an excellent Doctor I think, although I'm not expecting him.

I rather want Ben Wishaw, if we are throwing names around for a male Doctor, he seems to be less busy than others at the moment, will probably be finishing Mary Poppins by the end of year.

Cumberbatch would be AWFUL as a doctor. It would be cross-fandoms and cross-universes. A mess.

Kris Marshall would be an incredibly boring choice and would start the new era off on the wrong step. He's far too bland and lacks the character that the role needs. It needs a bold actor in the role, not someone who could play any old standard normal middle-aged man role. Omg, THIS!! Regina is probably lettin ha crushes influence her opinions on acting ability/ personality AGAIN tbh. Kris Marshall would be atrocious. |

Missy was clearly a pilot to see how fans would react to a female doctor. I believe she's been a success so it wouldn't surprise me if the new Doctor is female.

I think Ben Wishaw would be a great choice although he would probably have to accept a good deal less money than he is used to making. I'm still holding out for Luke Newberry (Kieren in In The Flesh) but he doesn't appear on the bookies' lists at all. The new favourite is Jodie Whittaker (Beth Latimer in Broadchurch). |

I think, had Moffatt stayed on, we would have got a female Doctor but I don't think Chibnall will go for that to start off his new era. I think it'll be a more younger Doctor than Peter (well it needs to be anyway) and they'll be a relative unknown.

As long as they're good, I don't care about their gender, race or sexuality. |

One of the main reasons why i'm not overly keen on a woman being the Doctor is that I don't want it to happen just for the sake of it and for box ticking, I just want the best person for the job. Its not as though the show has a lack of female roles because it has a wide range of them. I don't think we should be forcing well-known characters/franchises to he female just for the sake of it. It has to work well and be organic.
Missy was natural and helped create a new dimension to the character of the Master, things like Rey in Star Wars is alsonvery natural. But things like Ghostbusters and these latest cries for the next James Bond to be a female is forced. At this point, I think a female Doctor is in the middle of these two avenues and I just don't think its the right time for it unless the casting was perfect (I do like the shout of Pheobe Waller Bridge! and Michelle was really why Missy also worked so well). I just don't think we should be forcing changes on established characters but we should be creating NEW franchises that can create a great, long legacy for female characters at the forefront. |

I'm not 100% sold on a female Doctor either, pretty much for the reasons Froot posted. The actor/actress would have to be cast simply because they would make an excellent Doctor, not to tick boxes. Doctor Who has been excellent at portraying strong females and not casting one in the lead role doesn't change that, as much as some people may argue otherwise.
I'm not against it entirely anymore though, purely because I have faith in Chibnall and I don't think they've gone wrong at all with any of the previous 13 incarnations (John Hurt included). Plus a female Master worked better than I ever imagined. So we'll see I guess! |

I am 100% FOR it. It is well established by now tha they can change genders. Why always have a white middle class British mle playing an ALIEN??

people want the next James Bond to be a female?!? Now that's ridiculous. Do people want Sherlock Holmes to be female too?
I guess I wouldn't mind a female Doctor long as she still has the personality of the Doctor (though I'd prefer the role to remain male) seeing as it's very much possible in that universe, and I trust that the BBC will choose the best person for the role regardless of their gender or race. |
