BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Hailee Steinfeld & Alesso - Let Me Go

Posted by: Juan Carlos 🌴 5th September 2017, 07:10 PM

New single from Hailee Steinfeld called "Let Me Go", which is a collaboration with Alesso and features Florida Georgia Line and Andrew Watt. The track will be out this Friday according to the latest Republic promo newsletter.

Posted by: Liаm 5th September 2017, 07:29 PM

Can Florida Georgia Line STOP, nothing they've done has been anything more than insufferable puke.gif As a country fan, Cruise is very possibly the worst country song I've ever heard.

Posted by: TMD_24Quavo 5th September 2017, 07:33 PM

Florida Georgia Line is nowhere near the best one to pick but I'm looking forward to Alesso being on it!

Posted by: lewistgreen 5th September 2017, 07:38 PM

Conflicting. Alesso yes! Florida Georgia Line no! nocheer.gif

Posted by: cqmerqn 5th September 2017, 07:47 PM

Sounds interesting

Posted by: mdh 5th September 2017, 07:57 PM

Loved most of Florida Georgia Line's recent stuff, so this should be good!

Posted by: SameBoy 5th September 2017, 08:13 PM

Here for Alesso and Hailee only.

Posted by: BridgeCow 5th September 2017, 08:23 PM

Just why Florida Georgia Line

Posted by: Ryan. 5th September 2017, 08:44 PM

That's quite a combination but Hailee never fails to deliver (when she's the or one of the lead artists)!

Posted by: Jack 5th September 2017, 10:12 PM

Florida Georgia Line made 'Meant To Be' by Bebe unlistenable sad.gif

Still, 'Love Myself', 'Rock Bottom', 'Starving' and 'Most Girls' were all really solid so hopefully this is still good wub.gif.

Posted by: danG 5th September 2017, 10:30 PM

why did they feel the need to add Florida Georgia Line on this? manson.gif Hyped for Alesso but it'd have to be really good for FGL to not ruin it.

Posted by: Ryan. 6th September 2017, 10:36 PM

Snippet sounds promising (if a little out of date), definitely more in line with Starving than Most Girls as you'd probably expect.

Posted by: Ryan. 7th September 2017, 12:20 PM

She's done it again, another great single! I think the weakest part is the "drop", but it is the perfect follow-up to Starving as its a similar sound but also different enough. I'm not sure if its a hit in 2017, but it has more potential than Most Girls (and that did pretty well anyway!)

(I'm not sure what Watt does, but Florida Georgia Line's contribution is short but sweet)

Posted by: Cameron 7th September 2017, 05:21 PM

OMG this is so good!!!!! Reminds me of All Night by the Vamps. FFS HAILEE STOPPPPPP

Posted by: UltraReputation 7th September 2017, 11:37 PM

THIS IS SO GOOD. <3 <3 another fab song *.*

Posted by: Liаm 8th September 2017, 12:09 AM

Omgggg this SLAYS, Most Girls found rotting *.*

Posted by: Cameron 8th September 2017, 09:38 AM

Posted by: Liаm 8th September 2017, 01:29 PM

THE f***ING CHORUS

My only qualm is I could've done with a powered up last chorus, it ends a bit abruptly. FGL dont even sound that bad, Hailee is that good *.*

Posted by: danG 8th September 2017, 01:36 PM

Not really sold on first listen, though I guess that's because I was hoping it would be a bit more of a banger with Alesso on production.

Posted by: White Mustang 8th September 2017, 01:42 PM

Nah this is coming for Grammys

Posted by: Cody Bersten 8th September 2017, 02:14 PM

It's decent, there's not much FGL which is good but it does feel like Alesso barely put that much effort into production.

Posted by: leewallace 8th September 2017, 02:22 PM

This is actually incredible isn't it?

Posted by: Cameron 8th September 2017, 06:03 PM

Okay, I have decided now that the chorus reminds me of It Ain't Me mixed with Final Song. I hope someone else hears this laugh.gif

Posted by: mdh 9th September 2017, 08:10 AM

Basic af. That drop is shite

Posted by: BridgeCow 9th September 2017, 08:19 AM

Yeah this isn't really doing much for me tbh, hopefully it can grow on me but I was expecting so much more from an Alesso production sad.gif

Posted by: Spin 9th September 2017, 09:05 AM

It's no Starving. Perhaps it'll grow on me but the melody isn't too adventurous.

Posted by: Jack 9th September 2017, 01:54 PM

I'm really loving this, I just wish it was only Hailee or maybe a bit longer. It just feels like it's over before it's begun.

Alesso should go back to progressive house imo which he was best at I think!

Oh totally this.

In fact I'm glad Alesso's most recent stuff has flopped quite a bit (and this single itself hasn't done much yet if ever), as that will hopefully mean he returns to what the fans want from him instead of chasing chart hits.

Posted by: Jack 17th October 2017, 01:52 PM

Annoying that this looks like it'll be completely slept on sad.gif Such a good song!! One of my favourites right now, I really think Hailee is such a good popstar tbh.

Posted by: Cameron 17th October 2017, 02:13 PM

She needs to get the video out soon. But yeah, she is basically going to have a Pia Mia career by the looks of things sad.gif

This sounds alright, but it’s not really chartworthy material.

I think Hailee Steinfeld’s name to be honest. She’s an artist that I think will struggle to have math hits to her name, which is already proving true. Having said that, would be nice to be proven wrong. laugh.gif

Hailee’s name will stop her from having a hit? laugh.gif

She’ll do a Pixie Lott and bomb. sad.gif

All I’m saying is Hailee Steinfeld is going to struggle, in my opinion, to have a lasting career as I think she’s just perceived by the general public as another singer who jumps on trends and never really forms her own identity as a recording artist.

Posted by: Cameron 27th October 2017, 12:54 PM

Cute video

Posted by: Jack 27th October 2017, 01:05 PM

Meh, was hoping for something more as I really loved the video for 'Most Girls'

Still, an amazing song. One of my favourites this year, such a shame it's not going to be a hit sad.gif. I actually think 'Starving' is her weakest!

I think more than anything, maybe she just got extremely lucky with 'Starving' and no one really cares aside from that.

(I do think 'Most Girls' was quite a shoddy way to follow up a smash hit though).

Posted by: Cameron 1st November 2017, 04:50 PM

So this isn't the official video, Hailee filmed it the other day! ohmy.gif

Posted by: Cameron 17th November 2017, 06:06 PM

The official video is here! Hailee looks incred.

Posted by: Jack 18th November 2017, 01:32 PM

Slowly creeping up the charts, would love if this could go Top 40!

Video is okay, she looks really good I guess.

Posted by: Jack 22nd November 2017, 02:14 PM

Added to Hot Hits! Creeping closer to Top 50 as well on Spotify, looks like it should at the very least go Top 40 here biggrin.gif.

She always seems to be very late in getting a hit from initial release - 'Starving' and 'Most Girls' didn't hit their peaks until months later and the same looks set to happen to 'Let Me Go' now too! laugh.gif

Yas!!!

Still wanting a Love Myself re-release

Posted by: Theo. 4th February 2018, 10:11 PM

Okay I am absolutely loving this right now *.* I've found everything she's done since "Love Myself" basic and no idea how she managed to get such a big hit with "Starving" in particular but now this and "Capital Letters" are both tunes.

Posted by: cqmerqn 4th February 2018, 11:04 PM

Imo this is so basic. Her previous songs were much better.

Posted by: Cameron 4th February 2018, 11:15 PM

All her songs have been amazing. Hailee and Sigrid are saving pop

Posted by: cqmerqn 13th February 2018, 11:38 PM

Still struggling to understand her as an artist? laugh.gif

I mean she has had a couple songs that were OK but none of the songs really have the same connection?

Posted by: UltraReputation 14th February 2018, 12:00 AM

I'm so glad this finally reached the top 40 *.* This is easily still one of my favourite songs of 2016 and I love this so much <3

I think this is pretty lazy, she's just a solid pop artist?

I would say many pop artists don't have a definitive sound - look at Rita Ora, Demi, Cheryl, Zara ...

And same UV, Let Me Go is still such a bop wub.gif

Hailee's team is just smart with finding producers that can compliment her voice. She's only had one huge smash ("Starving") and that was dance-pop and everything else since then has been experimenting and trying to find that sweet spot. She has shown that she's versatile, and versatility is key, especially at a time when so many genres are merging into one.

The only thing that doesn't help is that she's more of a "sleeper hit" artist.

Posted by: Cody On Ice 14th February 2018, 12:50 AM

That having said, when are we getting Capital Letters as a single?

Posted by: Midge 14th February 2018, 01:12 AM

I've not paid much attention to this until the past week or two tbh laugh.gif

Now hitting me alongside "Capital Letters" which is also great.

I wasn't too fussed on "Most Girls" - it was nice enough but so basic.

He’s just making ‘out there statements’ to get a reaction.
Hailee is clearly doing for a pure pop sound

Legit laugh.gif

Also this and Starving have a similar sound then Most Girls is a bit EDM/tropical, they're hardly worlds apart. Capital Letters is but she can't release the same song all the time.

"Many" being one persom on this thread laugh.gif

Fair enough if you don't like it or her but it's a stupid criticism given lots of popular artists don't really have a defined sound as said. That's part of being a pop artist, you can't always release the same songs all the time.

Posted by: cqmerqn 14th February 2018, 01:08 PM

It was in another thread

I mean, of course you can have your own opinions but this is legit you in every thread laugh.gif

Posted by: Theo. 14th February 2018, 01:56 PM

Cqmerqn is right. There's nothing at all similar between "Love Myself", "Starving", "Most Girls" and "Let Me Go". The former and latter are huge bops but in different styles, "Starving" is a weird hybrid of tropical midtempo yet is so dull and I don't even know what the boring-ass "Most Girls" is supposed to be. At least with Demi, Rita etc they stick to a sound throughout an album cycle, Hailee literally sounds like she's throwing out anything she records and hopes for it to catch on.

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 14th February 2018, 02:02 PM

I agree that Hailee doesn't really have any particular sound yet and it does feel a bit like she's throwing everything at the wall and trying to see what sticks. It doesn't bother me though as long as she keeps bringing the bops (although right now I can't get into this as much as Most Girls and particularly Starving, which was one of the best songs of 2016).

This. Let Me Go is becoming a hit but I can't see it going Top 20 really and even if it does, if her track record is anything to go by her next single could be wildly different and just an unsuccessful. I want to say she is just trying new sounds but she got a huge hit with Starving then followed it up with crappy dance features and then the dull Most Girls which were nothing like her breakout single. Now she's repeating the same thing and I highly doubt her next single will be pop-country-dance or whatever this is.

Posted by: Jack 14th February 2018, 02:10 PM

I always thought Starving was her weakest oops.

Posted by: Midge 14th February 2018, 03:22 PM

"Starving" is still her best single for me.

Posted by: Liаm 14th February 2018, 03:46 PM

They're all in a sort of EDM/pop space, I don't know why people are acting like she's going wildly between totally different styles? laugh.gif Of course Love Myself is very different but that was for the EP, a different campaign.

Idk if she'll scrap all these for the upcoming album, as say Rihanna did with Anti when it happened to take a different direction? Perhaps with the album when it eventually comes, she'll have a more defined sound. Whole album with BloodPop please <3

Posted by: Klumzee 14th February 2018, 04:34 PM

I think it's a lack of identity as an artist/personality more than anything! I think it's good she's pushing different types of songs - even if they all fall under the dance-pop bracket at the end of the day. I think she just needs a killer song to make her stand out (almost similar to Dua this time last year) from the rest of the crowd. She's definitely got the potential and the writers behind her to do that - there's just no buzz around her or any of her releases currently so they're only picking up a few months later once the public realise she's released any of these songs laugh.gif

If she released Love Myself now after she's got herself a bit of a platform I think that could've been her killer song? I'd love to see a re-release tbh!

Love Myself should have been #1 everywhere for 83 weeks tbh

Posted by: Klumzee 14th February 2018, 04:51 PM

also have we all collectively forgotten about the horror that was 'Rock Bottom' with DNCE? she's more hit and miss then I thought!

Posted by: Liаm 14th February 2018, 05:10 PM

Rock Bottom wasn't that bad but it's certainly her weakest single laugh.gif

Posted by: Cameron 14th February 2018, 05:14 PM

Rock Bottom is really good lmao

Most Girls and Let Me Go are the 'two singles' from the album from what we know because all the other singles got added to the 'Haiz' ep. I can actually see her ditching Most Girls and keeping Let Me Go as the lead single. Preferably I would like it if she just started the album campaign with a new single like Love Myself

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 14th February 2018, 05:15 PM

Honestly I think she'd be absolutely stupid to leave Starving off the album considering it's her only substantial hit thus far!

Just that she's on the top of Spotify playlists, featured in headers and has features / gimmicks in her song (sampling 'Always On Time' and now Mabel and Stefflon Don).

I love RAYE, I really like her music, but she was better before 'Decline' and 'Cigarette', her earlier material sounded more unique.

Posted by: cqmerqn 28th February 2018, 12:19 PM

Hailee has ridiculous features though... Watt, Alesso and Florida Georgia Line on one track!

So you have indie pop, pop, dance and country artists on one track?!

Posted by: Liаm 28th February 2018, 12:33 PM

That's nothing like Raye's payola though laugh.gif The artists came together to make a song in the same style it's not like the chorus is a rock banger, the verses are country and there's an EDM drop.

Posted by: Jack 28th February 2018, 12:40 PM

I just think it's an odd comparison to make, they're completely different artists with different fanbase, Hailee is global for example. She doesn't really need payola, 'Starving' and 'Love Myself' were huge hits in the US and she's a known name!

Posted by: Liаm 28th February 2018, 12:50 PM

I really don't see the point in dragging Hailee just because someone made a valid point about your precious "queen" Raye? laugh.gif It doesn't detract from Hailee just because Raye's last single peaked higher...

Posted by: JosephSprayberry 28th February 2018, 07:42 PM

I mean, if they're on Hot Hits, I'm sure *both* artists are guilty of payola, I don't think it's any secret that that's the way into Hot Hits UK. Let's not make out as if it's some bad thing for RAYE to pay to be bumped up the list, it's a smart marketing technique and it payed off - a #15 peak for Decline is solid!

Hailee is indeed more global and obviously Starving was massive. Neither are huge names within music really, but they're both very early on in their careers so time will tell how much longer they last. Let Me Go has done.... roughly how I expected. It's a solid song but I don't think she's come close to topping Starving yet!

In short: both are doing fine

Posted by: Dexton 28th February 2018, 11:47 PM

Let Me Go probabaly could’ve had a chance at a #15 peak if its payola and radio support came a few months ago when the song was actually new. I can’t really see it going Top 20 at this point because it’s success has been dragged over quite a few months time, I’m surprised it’s even made Top 40 really

I like the song but it is absolutely nothing new and is just a sound we’ve all heard before tongue.gif Hanging around the charts for a while before taking off hugely (like Feel It Still) isn’t really possible for this song because it lacks a unique sound like Feel It Still did.
