BuzzJack Music Forum _ Rihanna _ What each era should have been?

Posted by: Andrew. 7th May 2017, 07:43 PM

Rih has had a lot of missed single opportunities and bad choices over the years, particularly in the TTT and Unapologetic eras imo so how would you have done each one?

Skipping the first two albums as there was literally nothing good on there beside the official singles :')

Good Girl Gone Bad
1. Umbrella
2. Shut Up And Drive
3. Push Up On Me (late part of summer)
4. Good Girl Gone Bad (Autumn)
5. Cry (winter ballad)
6. Don't Stop The Music (early spring)
RE-RELEASE
7. Take A Bow (through summer)
8. Disturbia (Autumn)

Rated R
1. Rude Boy (would've done even better if it had lead the era imo)
2. Stupid In Love (winter)
3. Hard (early 2010, given a proper push outside of the US)
4. Te Amo
5. Rockstar 101 (late spring rock anthem *.*)

Loud
1. Only Girl (In The World)
2. What's My Name?
3. S&M (perfect lead three singles tbh)
4. Man Down (with a full push!!)
5. Faded (early summer, leading straight in to WFL)

Talk That Talk
1. We Found Love
2. Where Have You Been (released with the album, would've helped the later singles a LOT!)
3. Red Lipstick (January/February, risky but would've been incredible *.*)
4. Birthday Cake (full version, no Chris Brown pls)
5. Roc Me Out
6. Talk That Talk (late July, leading straight into Diamonds)

Unapologetic
1. Diamonds
2. Lost In Paradise (pop radio) / Phresh Out The Runway (urban radio)
3. Stay (Janaury/February)
4. Pour It Up (April, proper push worldwide and obviously earlier video, lmao.)
5. Love Without Tragedy (the most risky so far but could work! through summer)
6. Jump (August/September smash)
7. Loveeeeeee Song (late autumn)
8. What Now (early 2014)

ANTI
1. Work (feat. Drake)
2. Needed Me (released separately from KIB so both of them can smash *.*)
3. Kiss It Better
4. Sex With Me (Summer)
5. Same Ol' Mistakes (totally left-field but I think it could've done well)
6. Love On The Brain (winter with BBMA-style X factor performance!)
7. Desperado (holy song to close off the era)

Imo, her biggest missed mistake was not having Drunk On Love as second single from TTT.

We Found Love followed by Where Have You Been would've been overkill of Calvin Harris too, they made the right call saving it for a later single. They just messed up the in between singles - should've been Drunk On Love followed by Talk That Talk (with a video!!!1!!).

Most of the problems have been lack of promo or video though, some of her middling hits could have been bigger if handled right. Even LOTB probably would've been US #1 and bigger around the world with a proper promo schedule and video.

I totally agree about the first 2 albums, nothing on them apart from the singles are any good. But for "GGGB" I think that went pretty much right and the only thing I would have changed is having 'Breakin' Dishes' as the final single instead of 'Rehab' which I've never been keen on to be honest.

Rated R
Russian Roulette (I know that this was risky, but it was an interesting and bold move and it did work...mostly)
Rude Boy
Firebomb
Hard
Stupid In Love

Loud
Personally think everything was done right here, although 'Man Down' should have been given a proper UK release and it could have performed better.

Talk That Talk
We Found Love (Of course was there any other choice)
Drunk On Love
Talk That Talk
Where Have You Been

Unapologetic
Diamonds
Stay
Jump
Pour It Up
Love Without Tragedy/Mother Mary

Anti
Work
Needed Me
Kiss Is Better (Released later so it would have stood a better chance)
Love On The Brain
Sex With Me
Desoerado
