BuzzJack Music Forum _ Spice Girls _ Why did Geri leave the Spice Girls?

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 12:02 AM

did geri ever give a specific reason for originally leaving the spice girls,im trying to think of why but cant remember her ever given a particular reason

Posted by: geriboy Jun 29 2007, 01:36 AM

In 'If Only' or 'just for the record' she says part of the reason was because they wanted a more r&b style and she didn't think that was her. A year after leaving she says she saw a billboard advertisement in USA whilst driving and realised she'd done the right thing (I think they were dressed in leather, the Holler promo stuff).

She knew she was going to leave and informed the group (others have confirmed this, mel c) during the tour, they wanted her to complete the tour which she had a go at but in the end just fled! If you can get hold of any of the pics of geri around this period she does look depressed and her 'transformation' was already taking shape (hair straight and dull coloured, black clothes).

Aside from that rather nice reason - she said in the documentary that she felt pushed out of the group "by one particular member", whether this was because they knew she wanted or was part of her reason for wanting to leave is still unknown.

Hope that helps smile.gif

Thanks for that geri boy as i always wondered why she didnt finish the tour or finish the promo pf spiceworld album as i remember they pre recorded a toto performance of viva forever and that was shown when it went number 1 looking back now i think she was dressed in black also

i always remember hearing about Geri wanting to do some kind of charity event and the other girls not wanting to do which tipped off all the bad feeling she was already having and then she left.
dont know if thats true whatsoever

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 12:39 PM

i remember it been a shock at the time as she would have been the least expected member to leave,i wonder if she had stayed how things would have went

Posted by: Lukuzz Jun 29 2007, 12:41 PM

would have been alot better i think, i always saw her as the lead spice girl even though mel c clearly has the best voice, geri and mel b always stood out as the loud and determined ones

geri was determind and like dto be heard she was never my fave spice girl but she wa sa huge part of the group the 3rd spice girls album was so disappointing,

how much did westlife beat them by in the first week sales when they went head to head

Posted by: Lukuzz Jun 29 2007, 12:48 PM

i adore the 3rd album and think it is just as good as the first 2, incredibly underrated, the fact that westlife beat them is disgusting lol.

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 12:49 PM

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 02:07 PM

ya i agree i wonder why they only released two singles of the album they gave so little promo they had at least another number 1 befor ethey quit

Posted by: Lukuzz Jun 29 2007, 02:09 PM

god knows, it was originally suposed to be a break i think. even though they had a almost 2 year break before releasing forever.

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 02:11 PM

ya i think it all went wrong and westlife beating them didnt help

Posted by: Lukuzz Jun 29 2007, 02:12 PM

i know, i think i would have left if i was them , what an embarresment loosing out to the worst boy band ever

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 02:14 PM

Posted by: Jack89 Jun 29 2007, 02:24 PM

I think the lead spice girls have always been geri and mel b... they don't have the best voices but they are the stand out ones.

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 02:29 PM

posh could be the stand out one as in doing alot of the taling this time

Miami Spice??? So i take it Miami 7 and the creation of s club 7 was due to the fall out of the spice girls not wanting or being unable to do Miami spice! I knew i had heard it before

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 29 2007, 04:13 PM

Y ai think that was what is was about

Posted by: *Ryan* Jun 30 2007, 01:28 PM

Theres a number of reasons i think:

1. She didnt always get on well with Mel B
2. She wanted to do a 'Robbie' and leave the Group and be a successful sololist.
3. She didnt like the New Direction the Record Company wanted them to take.
4. Pay issues. They were hardly payed any money when the Debut was released. They got LOADS once the second album was released. Earning about 10-25 Million each rumours say...

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 30 2007, 01:30 PM

it was weird she walked away though as i always felt she craved fame the most

Posted by: *Ryan* Jun 30 2007, 01:34 PM

Yep it was obvious from the start she was the one who wanted FAME the most.

The Documentary 'Raw Spice' is excellent, and shows what their personality's are really like. Raw Spice was filmed when they were still called 'Touch'.

Geri and Mel B were always fighting back then.

Posted by: Feel_the_Fever Jun 30 2007, 01:49 PM

i would say mel b and geri were very head strong
