Giving Maroon a listen now - sounding alright, I like the fact the instrumentation 'lets' her voice take center stage throughout the song.

7: Mimi Webb - House On Fire

Single from “Amelia”
Lyric: “gas and a match, it’ll go up in flames ”

Such an addictive bop that was actually my most played song of 2022. It’s easily my favourite of the pre-release singles far and I’m perched to hear the album wub.gif

I hope you enjoyed it! Yeah, her vocals on that track are definitely a highlight as well as the lyrics wub.gif

5: Em Beihold - Numb Little Bug

Single
Lyric: “like you have empathy inside but you don’t really care"

I’d never heard of Em Beihold before, but loved this song as soon as I heard it on the radio the first time. It was another one of my most played songs in 2022, a catchy and addictive song while also dealing with its subject perfectly imo!

4: Taylor Swift - Anti-Hero

Single from “Midnights”
Lyric: “when my depression works the graveyard shift, all of the people I've ghosted stand there in the room"

Another song that I loved from first listen and it’s only grown since. It’s been so amazing to see this song smash and completely deserved - the PERFECT choice of lead single wub.gif

3: Taylor Swift - The Great War

Album track from “Midnights”
Lyric: "diesel is desire, you were playing with fire"

This song EXCELS on lyrical content. It’s become a firm favourite in Taylor’s discography for me and feels so underrated in the context of the album. Strongly deserving of my 3rd favourite song of the year wub.gif

2: Rina Sawayama - Frankenstein

Single from “Hold The Girl”
Lyric: "opened up my problems, watch that poison blossom"

The definition of an INCREDIBLE pop song and the absolute highlight from Rina Sawayama’s sophomore album just misses out on my #1 spot.

1: Taylor Swift - Would’ve, Could’ve, Should’ve

Album track from “Midnights”
Lyric: "give me back my girlhood, it was mine first"

Now I KNOW this may be a (bonus) album track, but it’s just absolutely flawless as a song in my opinion. The build, the lyrics and especially the bridge makes it my absolute favourite song of 2022 (and a firm contender for my favourite in Taylor’s discography) giving Taylor a triple victory on my EOY 2022 cheeseblock.png
