Jess to be number 1 again please! cheer.gif
Also hope Eyes Shut and Chunky slay the top 40. w00t.gif

Posted by: #psychic7 Nov 13 2015, 12:11 AM

Really hope 'Chunky' can manage a Top 40 place, though my hopes aren't high. Great track <3

Interesting 3-way scrap between Justin, Adele & Jess this week! The former has a great shot although "Take Me Home" hitting the top wouldn't be surprising given the massive CIN + XF promo this week

Posted by: Hazza Chapman Nov 13 2015, 12:14 AM

Jess Glynne is on X Factor this weekend?

Posted by: Joe. Nov 13 2015, 12:16 AM

'Sorry' for number 1 this please and for Justin to do the double. I can't believe how impressed I am with Justin in this Nu-Skriplo era.

Ewww at some of the Spice Girls wrong opinions being written in the last iTunes thread.

QUOTE(liamk97 @ Nov 12 2015, 02:33 PM) *
We all know 'Holler' and whatever the A-side was called is their worst single.

sad.gif Holler is a bop. It may be R&B but I still think the song has a "Spiciness" to it. The performance of it during their Return of the Spice Girls tour (2007/2008) was a highlight of the whole set list! I'll just leave this here ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIhHY0by0K8 ), for no one to watch kink.gif (If anyone watches, bear in mind that it's not professionally filmed).

QUOTE(J▲hq @ Nov 12 2015, 10:29 AM) *
(Regarding Viva Forever) Am I going blind? I didn't see Simon write the word 'least' before 'favourite' thinking.gif
QUOTE(Liаm @ Nov 12 2015, 02:16 PM) *
Viva Forever is utterly tedious, I'm completely baffled by then circle jerk for it :/ By FAR their worst single.

no.gif You two are beyond saving! sad.gif Most of the people I've come across "irl" or online, when talking about the Spice Girls, they've either said they love/like VF, or at least find it to be one of their more tolerable songs. Never known anyone to hate it before you two, honestly. ohmy.gif Oh well, as the saying goes, there's no accounting for taste. x (Leave Viva Forever alone, it's beautiful!!)

QUOTE(toby @ Nov 12 2015, 05:08 PM) *
Lets not pretend that the Spice Girls were any good. Shitty trash

No Toby, YOU are sh!tty trash. And you know it! ;o

~~~
... you guys thought you'd get away with a Spice Girls conversation / criticism without me weighing in? kink.gif Sigh! It was nice to read some of the more positive opinions though.
Anyway, now let's go back to this highly boring looking release week. zzz.gif
Would love it if JB somehow breifly knocked Adele off for a week but she seems unstoppable for the next few weeks.
Getting Eyes Shut top 40 would be awesome and that Chunky song too.
Hopefully Jess on ha climb dance.gif
Does anybody think it's possible that Jess Glynne could beat both Adele and Justin Bieber to number one this week? I remember last year the much interior Wake Me Up by Gareth Malone's choir managed to reach number one with all the attention around Children In Need and it sold 100,000 copies.
Anything is possible, after all it's the Children in Need song, it's not really about Jess. Although a great performance and video by her of course!
One Direction - Made In The A.M.
Didn't someone on the previous page say 'Love Yourself' is already on the Capital playlist? Which makes it almost certain as the next single.
He is selling less digital, HDD confirms it in the US, he is selling 16% and they are selling around 33% previous albums of course... so... If on Digital he can beat them maybe he is getting a real chance... WW he will do it, UK... Let's see, His singles this era are HUGE while 1D ones are... not so much.
When was the last time an artist had 3 songs in the official Top 10 at the same?
Posted by: JosephStyles Nov 13 2015, 01:58 PM
I can still see 1D making #1 in the UK (the US is totally irrelevant, different market and not comparable, Justin's always done way better over there), but it could be close. I'm happy either way as both albums are excellent.
Posted by: Danvember Nov 13 2015, 02:04 PM
oh didn't realise Keep Up was getting released today. Hopefully it goes top 40 to justify its NOW 92 inclusion. (Lamborghini was a better song though)
I'm not sure what you're getting at here tongue.gif 1D have always done better in the UK, correct, hence my point of them probably being #1. The US sales aren't relevant to the UK album chart.
Do you have a personal vendetta against Joseph? You seem to out of your way to nit-pick his tweets! kink.gif
Sam Smith looks like he could be leaving the top 10 this week. I really hope so. I'm sure he'll fall pretty quickly when Mockingjay takes up loads of the cinema hype from Spectre next week.
Coldplay seem like they are actually stabilizing a bit too, of course, they'll fall tonight with CiN and what not.
The Admin workers at Apple will be seeing "Jess Glynne - Take Me Home (BBC Children In Need Single 2015)" flodding through their database this weekend.
I've always wondered how the sales of songs are tallied up on iTunes, it must be really painstaking if there is someone who has to count the sales one by one.
I think iTunes is being a bit iffy this evening. Jess Glynne surely would have been 3 by now, and Ellie only climbing to 132 seems odd to me... 5SOS have also not moved since their performance an hour ago
Other than Jess, the only thing that seems to have had a decent boost is Miley Cyrus' 'The Climb'. Which is at 74. Ellie peaked at 132 and has already fallen to 135.
I thought CIN usually have pretty decent boosts?
Posted by: UltraChristmas Nov 14 2015, 12:22 AM
I think if Ellie was on a couple of hours later she would have gotten a big boost. I only just about caught her performance as it was on so early into the show so I think many people might have missed it unfortunately sad.gif
I've got a feeling that viewing figures for Children In Need may have dropped very sharply tonight during the show.
Some songs by Eagles Of Death Metal might appear in the top 1500 over the weekend.
71 Selena Gomez Same Old Love
81 Miley Cyrus The Climb
134 Ellie Goulding Army
168 5 Seconds of Summer Hey Everybody!
211 Shane Filan I Could Be (Duet with Nadine Coyle)
Only Jess and Miley got notable boosts. I really expected Ellie to enter the top 40 on iTunes and Years & Years to climb a good 10 places.
Sorry is now 0.9386 behind Adele, and ahead on streaming, if he sustains or continue's to increase on iTunes I can see him getting #1 on Friday. Let's not forget Radio 1 B-listing begins from Monday!
Assuming Adele does nothing in the week leading up to her Album release wink.gif
Bieber now up to ~0.95 of Adele combined ohmy.gif
Posted by: Danvember Nov 14 2015, 01:11 PM
that's basically confirmation that he'll be #1 this week then. 'Sorry' is definitely deserving (in terms of popularity) of a #1 peak anyway.
Posted by: Heathyheath_ Nov 14 2015, 01:20 PM
Honestly I find Sorry so much better than What Do You Mean and I think it completely deserves the number one spot. I guess it depends on the streaming gap. I don't want to rule out Hello retaining its spot as hype builds towards the release of 25 but things look good for Bieber.
Yeah, they will be but being in that top 10 on iTunes itself would be pretty great for its visibility.
Streaming consistently hacks me off.
I know most think OA/OS is stupid but if done right like for Love me like you you can really grow a hit which doesn't lead to people being sick of it by the release week. Plus a song/chart run with legs is going to really help sell an album. I think they have got it spot on with Love me like you, should keep them going until Christmas now and then 3rd single early next year with hopefully a good 250k albums sold by then.
This'll be a very close week for the #1 it looks like. Adele's extended her lead slightly on Justin - 1.000 to ~0.8788 (with his two versions combined). Maybe hype around Adele's album release this friday will give the song a bit of a boost later in the week?
People have been encouraged to try to get this particular track to number one. As the original is reasonably well-known (unlike any of EODM's own songs), it seems a good choice.
There has been no announcement (AFAIK) about a charity donation, but I wouldn't be surprised if that is what happens.
I've noticed that. The batch is really uninteresting and lazy lately. 59p doesn't have a big effect unless the song is featured in the batch usually.
Yes to all of this. Broken Hearted Girl is so underrated. I always forget it went Top 40 officially though, always feels like an album track to me.
Wow at One Last Time in the top 10 of iTunes because of TXF! Really liked that when it was originally out.
Yay, nice to see Fleur's popularity score increasing significantly! I wonder if she could stay at #3 officially? Jess isn't performing as well as I thought she would considering she had both CIN and The X Factor.
Very pleased that One Last Time is in the Top 10. Hoping it can enter the Top 20 officially on Friday! Peaking at #24 was a bit meh (in fact bar Problem, the single peaks from the My Everything era were underwhelming, although at least they all had longevity).
Olly and Caroline came out to it too at the start of X factor, plus the talk talk advert. So it was probably given more than a full plays worth during X factor with the Asda advert too.
Listening to Jess Glynne's song for the first time on X Factor it sounded quite bland so I suppose it shouldn't be too much of a surprise that it's not doing as well as previous Children In Need singles.
Eagles Of Death Metal are increasing very quickly now, up to #13 and with big gains in each of the last few Kworb updates - outside possibility of it hitting #1 on iTunes later? (As it will have more visibility when it makes the top 10 etc.) Probably won't quite get that far but here's hoping it does enough to at least be top 40 this week.
Saddest Vanilla would've really underperformed for her, even the Emeli Sandé feature wouldn't help it as that can't take away the fact that the song's not very good.
Adele's 'certain run at No.1 until X Factor' suspended after only three weeks! Happy for Bieber, if only becuase it's a better song than What Do You Mean and has had more cultural impact than a lot of No.1s this year.
It's pretty incredible that Bieber has the power to dethrone Adele! Who would ever have thought that he'd come back with such a strong era?
Where Are U Now really made Bieber more credible. Without that, his solo material wouldn't have had the radio support to take off honestly.
Where Are U Now helped things I'm sure, especially widening his fanbase, but I'm sure he would have had radio support either way, he's a massive star with a huge fanbase, and Sorry especially is too strong, radios would have supported it regardless.
Posted by: MANGŘ Nov 17 2015, 12:23 PM
Yeah, agree that he would have had radio support regardless, but Where Are U Now definitely helped make him more credible and 'cool'.
Posted by: mr_pmt Nov 17 2015, 12:26 PM
One of my friends described 'Where Are U Now' as his "revival song" (before 'What Do You Mean' emerged), and that seems fair.
I highly doubt Radio 1 and capital would have refused to playlist 'What Do You Mean' regardless though, so the outcome probably would have been the same either way.
Posted by: *Tim Nov 17 2015, 12:28 PM
They probably wouldn't have refused, but they would be a bit wary I imagine. The song would have to prove itself more imo
Posted by: gooddelta Nov 17 2015, 12:28 PM
It's sort of similar to Katy Perry piggybacking onto those Timbaland and 30H!3 singles in early 2010 to remind us all of her existence before she came back bigger than ever later that year.
This is what I meant really. For all his large fanbase, plenty more people can't stand Justin Bieber and radio stations are aware of that.
Also, tapping into the sound of 'now' has helped him. The tropical house sound of What Do You Mean? and Sorry with an accessible Pop vocal made them both surefire smashes. Not without Where Are U Now though. That really opened doors for him.
Posted by: Davidson Nov 17 2015, 12:39 PM
Working with Skrillex seems to have done Justin's career wonders, he has a lot to be thankful for.
I don't mind JB having 1 week at #1 with 'Sorry' as Adele is clearly going to be straight back there next week with the release of the album and her TV special airing.
That can often be an excuse but loads of artists manage top 3 singles off platinum albums (and Jess isn't even there yet), especially since it is a charity single, given the huge promotion it's gotten, it's fair to say it's under-performing somewhat.
Last Friday night's Children In Need must have been one of the lowest rated of modern times. I know speaking for myself that I didn't/couldn't watch it anymore once the first show ended for the 10'oclock news. So this must have been the case for millions of people on Friday night, her performance was right before the 10 o'clock news as well so any attention that she would have gained from viewers would have been wiped out in an instant.
Or maybe people just find the song even less exciting than watching paint dry and would have rather just donated to Children In Need the old fashioned way.
This sounds like a stretch for a song that's been top 10 on iTunes for a rather extended period of time at this stage. It's not 'How Long Will I Love You' but it's clearly not unpopular or generally disliked.
I really don't get the hype surrounding 'Take Me Home'. It's just there, for me. Nothing particularly interesting about it at all. I'm sure it's not going to have a massive tumble down the charts, but I'm glad it's not looking likely to be another 'How Long Will I Love You' sort of long stayer.
It's great to see 'Eyes Shut' climbing rather quickly now, it's a great shame that it's still not discounted and their live performances have not had much impact on iTunes in the slightest.
10. Little Mix - Love Me Like You (Joe agog) & #65
12. One Direction - Perfect
21. Years & Years - Eyes Shut & #120
27. Ben Haenow Feat Kelly Clarkson - Second Hand Heart (This has held up better that I imagined especially with a second version at #90)
33. Sigma & Rita Ora - Coming Home
40. Robin Schulz Feat Francesco Yates - Sugar
45. Pia Mia - Touch
46. Charlie Puth - One Call Away
60. Years & Years - King
61. Years & Years - Shine
62. Selena Gomez - Same Old Love
73. Shane Filan Feat Nadine Coyle - I Could Be
80. Shawn Mendes - Stiches
115. Nathan Skykes - Over and Over Again
Bon Jovi? What have they got to do with it? Do you mean Simon Le Bon?
Duran Duran have said that their royalties will go to a charity. I assume Eagles Of Death Metal will do the same, but they probably have other things on their minds at the moment.
Oops, that's very embarrassing. I guess my brain wouldn't split Save a Prayer with Living On a Prayer! I guess I was just in a rush to let people know the proceeds are going to some kind of charity.
Anyway Id imagine the song will definitely chart in the top 40 on Friday. It's holding up okay despite the band obviously having a niche market.
Oh glad the Shawn/Camila song is finally out here! Hopefully Stitches' success worldwide can lead to this one getting support (plus Worth It being a smash too).
All My Friends better be huge, such an anthemic song <3
Posted by: Danvember Nov 18 2015, 07:13 PM
are they not going to bother with promoting 'Stitches' properly here then? Surprised this new one has instantly outpeaked it on iTunes.
I doubt it now, it's already peaked in the US, if they were gonna do it then I think it would've been done by now. Plus this has only outpeaked it on iTunes cause Stitches was a slow-burning post-album single heehee.gif Life of the Party and Something Big also got higher than Stitches peaked on iTunes!
I'm surprised Y&Y's dreadful live performances haven't put people off. Great song though.
Posted by: Zárate Nov 18 2015, 08:45 PM
Tbh I suspected Y&Y would underperform with 'Eyes Shot', not only because it being quite a cliche ballad song, but also this not being suited to their target audience. All of their previous singles were much more quirky and production-wise different to my ears.
That and it's a post album single - the album having sold relatively well. Eyes Shut was also avaliable pre album on one of their EPs they released and was avaliable pre album to cherry pick.
Therefore why it was picked as a single was a bit bizarre IMO... They should've gone for Gold... or re-released Take Shelter or one of the other excellent songs from the album
Posted by: JosephStyles Nov 18 2015, 08:51 PM
Eyes Shut was the perfect single IMO and I'm not sure Gold would've done any better. Eyes Shut has translated into album sales quite well because it adds versatility, something Gold would not do IMO. I did expect it to do better but I guess its only big promo slot was on Children In Need at half 11 in the evening drama.gif (and Alan Carr which provides only a small most anyway)
I love the song anyway and I'm glad it got a chance as a single wub.gif
Posted by: mr_pmt Nov 18 2015, 08:55 PM
'Eyes Shut' seemed like the logical choice for late year ballad and it was the one which was getting the most attention/cherry picks.
I find it so immensely bland though, it's the sort of thing Sam Smith would do. It's almost like over the course of 3 singles they've made the transition to Radio 2 friendly act. drama.gif
Posted by: Joe. Nov 18 2015, 08:57 PM
Eyes Shut is still climbing though, slowly but surely. And as I've said before, it's actually sold 100k already. I think things are far from over for it. I think it'll get a few weeks top 40, which to be honest I don't think any other song on the album will get.
Posted by: ElectroBoy Nov 18 2015, 08:59 PM
Oh I like Eyes Shut... I just prefer a fair few on the album more biggrin.gif
And yeah it is still climbing - I'm amazed at how long its kept around tbh (but pleased) and seems to be going in the right direction
WOW at that! It's being used on a House of Frasier advert right now, only saw it for the first time earlier, if it's that high already it's an excellent sign! Please be a hit wub.gif
I didn't realise Now 92 was released this Friday. HUGE week for sales coming ahead then! ohmy.gif
Posted by: BillyH Nov 19 2015, 03:41 AM
YES!! Go Grace & G!!
I mentioned in another thread that I live in Australia now, and I only first heard this track on the radio a few weeks ago - it was a #1 hit here a few months ago. Really hoped the Now 92 inclusion was a good sign and hoping this is gonna do well!
Posted by: AcerBen Nov 19 2015, 12:43 PM
I said Grace was going to be in a Christmas ad two or three weeks ago tongue.gif
Posted by: TheGrinch Nov 19 2015, 12:59 PM
'Love Yourself' could debut at #3 this week which is rather remarkable. It's #3 & #51 on iTunes and #2 on UK Spotify, I never thought Bieber would have had three top 3 singles from one campaign.
06. MNEK & Zara Larsson - Never Forget You [Hopefully this manages to re-peak next week]
09. One Direction - Perfect
10. Coldplay - Adventure of a Lifetime
16. Olly Murs - Kiss Me
20. Years & Years - Eyes Shut & #113
29. Ariana Grande - One Last Time
31. Sigma & Rita Ora - Coming Home
32. Shawn Mendes & Camilla - I Know What You Did Last Summer
38. Robin Schulz Feat Francesco Yates - Sugar
42. Pia Mia - Touch
45. Charlie Puth - One Call Away [Hopefully he manages to get an X-Factor slot, this really needs to at least go top 20, it's 59p]
91. Nathan Sykes - Over and Over Again [I'm guessing this could go top 10 following an X Factor performance]
Posted by: #psychic7 Nov 19 2015, 02:32 PM
biggrin.gif I assume this got a play on R1 this morning? (the Hottest Records from the night before usually do I think)
I could see Adele being the type of artist to have all the tracks 'Album Only'. I read somewhere that it's not going to be available on Spotify.
Good to see Coldplay climb back into the Top 10 smile.gif
There will be no streaming of Adele’s 25 upon its release tomorrow (11/20), including via Apple Music. Will she change her mind? Perhaps, but that's a decision she’ll make at a later date.
This is said to be fundamentally about the fact that the megastar singer/songwriter believes art has value and that freemium devalues it for all artists. This not about money for her personally—she is, as you may have intuited, wealthy beyond belief. But the big streaming services have offered her huge financial incentives.
#382. Ariana Grande - Santa Tell Me
#422 & #988. - Leona Lewis - One More Sleep
Pretty much selling the same once you take into account Leona's second version and there not being many sales between #382 & #422. Plus Ariana's currently got a lot more exposure than Leona at the moment. Things look promising for Ariana though, as it's in its second year now (Leona in her 3rd). Maybe it'll go on to become a Christmas classic?
Will be interesting to see how well "One More Sleep" does this year featuring on Now! Christmas and being on most of the Spotify Christmas playlists. Hopefully it'll do better than last year and go silver this year (Think it needs to sell another 30-40k to go silver, which shouldn't be too difficult to do if it performs similarly to last year).
