31st October – 6th November: The top 3 is the same for a 5th consecutive week. Closer has now been number one for 10 weeks, and at this rate, might be able to stay at number one longer than the current records holder, One Dance, which was no.1 for 14 weeks, between April & July. Could The Weeknd's song Starboy stop this from happening? Don't Wanna Know peaks at 4, and 24k magic returns to its original peak of 5. James Arthur lands his first international top 10 with Say You Won't Let Go. In terms of brand new entries, there are few this week. Although Jonas Blue & Shakira (Their tracks enter at 42 & 45 respectively) were the big entries of the week, they failed to make the top 40. This means that there are a few big climbers; Clean Bandit's Rockabye climbs 30 to 22, Rag n' bone man's Human from 36 to 25, Juju on that beat from 42 to 33 and Tove Lo's Cool Girl from 47 to 38. There are also new peaks for Side To Side (no. 8, after 10 weeks) and Starving (no. 15, after 10 weeks). Our longest charting song, Cheap Thrills has spent 36 weeks in the chart. Lp's Lost On You and The Pentatonix's Hallelujiah ake the chart without any streams. Drake's Sneakin' and twenty one pilot's Ride drop out of the top 40.

7th – 13th November: After 10 long weeks at the number one spot, The Chainsmokers Closer has been pipped at the post by The Weeknd's Starboy, after 7 weeks of release, and 5 consecutive weeks at no.2. Numbers 3-7 are the same, but there is a huge new entry at 8. by Rae Sremmund's Black Beatles. An entry like this is a very likely contender for number one next week, especially since it is growing in popularity so rapidly. The Chainsmoker's Setting Fires is also a new entry to the chart this week, which is the 4th Chainsmokers song in the chart. Another single of theirs, Don't Let Me Down, is a surprisingly large faller, dropping 10 places from 23 to 33. Alessia Cara is the final new entry to the top 40, climbing 9 places to 34 with Scars To Your Beautiful. Calum Scott's Dancing On my Own & Alan Walker's Faded re-enter at 39 and 40 respectively. Juju On That Beat, Rag n' Bone Man's Human, Shawn Mendes' Mercy, Clean Bandit's Rockabye and James Arthur's Say You Won't Let Go climb to new peaks of 30, 22, 20, 12 & 9 respectively. The sad death of Leonard Cohen, announced on Thursday, has caused his legendary song, Hallelujah to re-enter at 46. Because of this, the Pentatonix's cover climbs 2 places to 38.

5th -11th December: On the back of his album, Starboy is number one for a 3rd non-cons. week. After an incredible 17 consecutive weeks in the top 3, THe Chainsmokers' Closer moves down to 4, whilst Clean Bandit's Rockabye climbs a place to a new peak of 3, and after 4 cons. weeks at no.9, Say You Won't Let Go rises to a new peak of 8. Christmas tracks are ow making more of an impact; All I Want FOr Christmas climbs to 13, whilst Wham's Last Christmas enters at 46. I'm not sure why, but Lady Gaga's Million Reasons bounds 31 places from 50 to 19, 1 position off it's original peak. Alan Walker's new single Alone debuts at no.23. Machine Gun Kelly's single Bad Things, which has spent a few weeks outside the top 50, has suddenly appeared at 36 this week. And after just 3 days on sale, with no streaming figures, Zayn & Taylor Swift's I Don't Wanna Live Forever debuts at 30. John Legend's Love Me Now (22), Shakira's Chantaje (26) Alessia Cara's Scars To Your Beautiful (27) & Starley's Call On Me (30) all reach new peaks this week. After an incredible 40 weeks on the chart, Hymn For The Weekend finally drops out of the top 40 to number 42. Cheap Thrills continues its reign a the longest charting single, with 41 weeks on the chart.

12th – 18th December: Starboy spends a 4th week at number one. Despite Clean Bandit's Rockabye and Bruno Mars' 24k Magic reaching new peaks at numbers 2 & 3, The Weeknd is still 40,000 sales off his nearest competitor. It looks like the motherf***in' starboy is gonna be this years worldwide Christmas number one. Two huge releases from last week make big impacts on the chart today; Zayn & Taylor Swift's I Don't Wanna Live Forever , number one on iTunes, climbs 24 places to 6, and Louis Tomlinson & Steve Aoki debut at number 8, with Just Hold On, pushing Sia & James Arthur out of the top 10. After releasing his album 4 Your Eyez Only last week, J. Cole debuts at 35, with Deja Vu. There are 2 re-entries in the top 40; Pentatonix's Hallelujiah at 36, and Wham's Last Christmas at 40. The only song not previously mentioned to reach a new peak this week is Shakira's Chantaje, up 4 places to 22. Little Mix's Shout Out To My Ex, The Chainsmokers' Don't Let Me Down, Robin Schulz & David Guetta's Shed a Light and, after 41 consecutive weeks in the chart, Cheap Thrills, fall out of the top 40 this week. This leaves Faded as our longest charting top 40 single (38 weeks, (32)) and Drake's One Dance as the longest consecutively charting single (35 weeks (25)).

19th – 25th December: For this Christmas chart, The Weeknd comes out on top for a 5th week, holding off Rockabye for a second week. Being that it's Christmas, we see some big climbs from Christmas songs in the chart: All i want For Christmas reaches a new peak of number 3, and Wham! reaches a new peak of number 19 (this might actually rise next week, after the sad news of George Michael's death yesterday). Surprisingly, there are no other other Christmas ongs in the top 40 (I suppose you could count the Pentatonix's Hallelujah as a Christmas song, which reaches a new peak of number 29 this week), but at 46, there's a surprise new entry from Michael Buble at 46, with It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas. Other classics like Feliz Navidad & Driving Home For Christmas were close, but just missed out of the top 50. There are also new peaks from Rag 'n' Bone Man's human at 12, and Machine Gun Kelly at 33. Sia's Cheap Thrills re-enters at 40, whilst J Cole's Deja Vu falls straight out of the top 50.

26th December – 1st January: Starboy is number one into the new year, holding Clean Bandit at number 2 for a 3rd week. Since this seems to be the time where everyone reflects on the previous year, we have lots of climbers. More songs have climbed the chart this year than the songs that have fallen: Closer returns to 3, Let Me Love You 5, CAN'T STOP THE FEELING 11, One Dance 16, etc. Surprisingly only one song climbs to a new peak this week: Mercy (up 2 to 18). We do have 3 re-entries this week though; Don't Let Me Down at 34, Hello (for the zillionth time) at 38, and Hymn For The Weekend at 39.
Of course, we also heard the sad news that George Michael passed away this week. Because of this, he has entries at 13 with Careless Whisper, 37 with Faith and 50 with Freedom. The unfortunate event has also allowed Last Christmas to spend one more week in the top 50, at 41. The only other new entry comes from Migos, with Bad and Boujee at 40. All I Want For Christmas, Pentatonix's Hallelujiah, Neikid's Sexual, THe CHainsmokers' All We Know and Lady Gaga's Million Reasons fall out of the top 40.
