So, we don't have a review forum, but I still want to do something like this. I figured other people would want to also, so I figured heck, why not. Basically, using the New Release Schedule, rate the new singles out this upcoming week anyway you want (numbers, comments, whatever). Thanks to MagicKangaroo for the release schedule. <3
Singles out 1/28/08 Avenged Sevenfold – Afterlife Bob Mould – The Silence Between Us (7”) Cajun Dance Party – The Race (7”) Cobra Dukes – Airtight (12”) The Duke Spirit – The Step And The Walk Elliot Minor - Still Figuring Out Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor Kelly Rowland – Work Laura Marling – Ghosts The Mae Shi - Run To Your Grave (7”) [Limited] Mary J Blige - Just Fine The Mouth - Just Passin' Through / Cocaine Lane (7”) [Limited] One Night Only – Just For Tonight Operahouse – Born A Boy (7”) [Limited] Primary 1 – Hold Me Down (12”) Rascal Flatts – What Hurts The Most Richard Hawley – Valentine School Of Language – Rockist (7”) Tin Man – Tonight Urbnri – Young Free & Simple Cobra Dukes - Airtight | | 7.4 Very good Goldfrapp-like track. The intro gets a bit boring, but the chorus makes up for it nearly. The guys voice is rather bland, but it's a solid track nevertheless. Hot Chip - Ready For the Floor | | 8.5 Absolutely brilliant track from the amazing Hot Chip. I've heard not so great things about their albums, but if it sounds like this song I have no idea why. It's one of their best. Kelly Rowland - Work | | 7.8 Not fond of the original, but the Freemasons Remix is absolutely wonderful. I'm wearing off a bit of it now, but still it's a great dance track and probably the best pop single out this week (unless you consider Hot Chip pop). Laura Marling - Ghosts | | 9.6 This song is amzing. End of. So far my favorite track of 2008 and will probably be spending its 4th week at #1 on my personal chart next Friday, though Los Campesinos! pose a threat. Stil, it's brilliant. The slow build-up is just...ah omgah, it's amazing go buy it kthxbye. The Mae Shi - Run To Your Grave | | 4.8 This track is just kinda weird tbh. I don't like it at all. The vocals are grating and the instrumentation does absolutely nothing for me. One Night Only - Just For Tonight | | 2.8 Ugh, this song is just terrible tbh. Why people like it is beyond me. Boring and bland. Operahouse - Born A Boy | | 6.1 I don't quite like this one as much as I thought did a few weeks a go. Still, a fairly good indie track, though nothing really sticks out about it so that's pretty all it'll ever be. |

Yay for Laura Marling being single of the week! It's fab!
I do like Hot Chip as well but am not going to risk the album. The singles off 'The Warning' were all brilliant but the album was atleast half-filler. |

Nice idea Ben. I'll make a few comments on a few of the songs I like best to the songs I hate in oder of rating.
8.8 Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor Brilliant - the best release this week easily. My only protest is that it gets a tad annoying. 7.6 Operahouse – Born A Boy Love this song, a really good track. 7.0 Kelly Rowland – Work I have to agree, the Freemasons remix pisses all over the original, which is why I marked it down a bit. Not as good some people on here make out, but a good song, and far superior than the awful 'Like This'. 6.3 Mary J Blige - Just Fine Good comeback from Mary, but nothing amazing and the topic of the song makes me cringe for some reason. 6.1 The Duke Spirit – The Step And The Walk Not a bad song but doesn't really go anywhere. It's still a good track though. 4.5 Laura Marling – Ghosts This is quite boring IMO. Really doesn't do anything to capture my attention. She has a nice voice though. 2.2 One Night Only – Just For Tonight Agreed with you again, a terrible song. Wishy-washy indie c**p. 1.2 Elliot Minor - Still Figuring Out Awful song from an awful band that makes me want to scream. The song grates on me so bad too. 0.6 Rascal Flatts – What Hurts The Most Pointless. The worst single of the week and a pathetic and most likely failed attempt to cash in on Cascada's success. I think maybe I was a bit too harsh. =/ |

Good idea Ben.
Cajun Dance Party – The Race This isn't being released this week I heard. Anyway i'm knida dissapointed with this tbh. After the excelence of "Amalayse" this does let down a bit. I'm still looking forward to the album though, this track just isn't as good as I thought/hoped it would be. 6.7 Elliot Minor - Still Figuring Out Umm yea. This is basicly just Mcfly sounding a little bit different imo. All there songs sound the same and the whole "Goth" thing doesn't work (if that's what they're trying to be). It's a very poor track and it doesn't stand at all imo. 4.8 Hot Chip – Ready For The Floor Excelent. Even though it does get a bit boring after you listen to it 768262 times a week it's still a quality track and makes me look forward to the album even more. A former No 1 on my chart this is the perfect mix of dance and pop imo. Fantastic track that appeals to both fans and none fans alike. 9.4 Kelly Rowland – Work Hmmm I didn't think (and still don't think) that this or the remix is any were near as good as people are making out. The remix makes it sightly better (which is what the rating is on) but the original is bland and nothing special. Just a slightly above normal RnB song imo. 7.9 Laura Marling – Ghosts This is my single of the week and should be all yours as well tbh. A track that never bores, and shows Adele how to sing. If people can rave about her (and Duffy) then they can talk about this girl as well. I also recomend for people to check out the rather excelent "My Manic And I", which is as good, if not better than this. <3 9.6 Operahouse – Born A Boy A solid indie track that imo shows how the genre is getting better and better. There is a large number of fantastic new Indie bands/artists releasing now and Operahouse just join an ever growing list. Maybe not one for non Indie fans, but a very fresh and strong track. 8.5 Other Ratings;; Mary J Blige - Just Fine Not my Genre at all but this is a fantastic track. 8.0 One Night Only – Just For Tonight I do quite like this. Much better than "You and Me" but still not the finished article. 8.2 Rascal Flatts – What Hurts The Most I hate to say it but the Cascada version is miles better than this. 6.1 This post has been edited by Jonny: 26th January 2008, 10:33 PM |

Compared to "Be Without You", "Just Fine" is appalling :/ I'd be pretty bummed if Mary chose only to try and pursue the same sound as Be Without You each time she released. I think Just Fine is a bloody excellent song and a very strong lead single. It also works a whole lot better when you see the live performances - she was on Johnathon Ross on Friday and gave the best performance of it so far. It was incredible! ||5.0|| Hot Chip - Ready For The Floor Liked it at first, but it's got rather bland for me at the moment. ||9.0|| Kelly Rowland - Work The freemasons mix is amazing. This could be Kelly's first number one hit.. It's just amazing. ||8.5|| Laura Marling - Ghost She has an amazing voice and this song is just brilliant. I hope to hear more from Laura as I think she could be the underdog of 2008... ||6.5|| One Night Only - Just For Tonight Awful beyond words.. Yet I can't help liking it. ||4.0|| Rascall Flatts - What Hurts The Most A nice song.. But they make it rather bland. It's amazing when Jo O' Meara sings it, and Cascada's version is great also. |

I never liked Mary J. Blige.
Be Without You was good, though. |
