BuzzJack Music Forum _ Lady Gaga _ Will Shallow be considered a Gaga CLASSIC?

Posted by: HausofTove Apr 2 2019, 07:12 PM

With Shallow still dominating global charts, and cementing itself as a massive seller what are your thoughts on how it will hold up over time? Will it go down as a Gaga classic song with regards to its impact and sales? Is it going to join the likes of Poker Face, Bad Romance, Born This Way and more and be remembered in a decades time?

Will Shallow be a CLASSIC among her discography?

DISCUSS~

Not on the same level as the others mentioned but definitely her most recognisable song since at least The Edge of Glory, more likely Born This Way. Probably remembered more as that song from the film - and it will be representative of this more.. stripped back, getting the public back on side phase

Posted by: UltraReputation Apr 2 2019, 08:12 PM

I'm honestly at the point where I think this is gonna go down as her signature classic 😮

Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn Apr 2 2019, 08:21 PM

I see no reason why it wouldn't.

Posted by: Klumzee Apr 2 2019, 08:26 PM

I think this will be right up there! I think it'll be better remember than any of her other singles bar the three mentioned in the original post. It'll be interesting to see how this has affected the legacy of Million Reasons as that was becoming her 'slow stand out' moment especially after the Super Bowl.

Posted by: HausofTove Apr 2 2019, 08:41 PM

I think it will too. Just Dance, Poker Face, Born This Way and Bad Romance probably won't ever be overtaken in terms of classic status but then this could well be the next one to complete her 5 most stand out moments.

Posted by: Spiceboy Apr 2 2019, 08:45 PM

Easily! I think after Bad Romance and Poker Face it will be 'THE' Gaga hit. It appeals to such a wide range outside of Gaga's normal fanbase. Finally it's her Oscar win which has cemented it's status already tbh.

Ironic since it's not the best song on the soundtrack at all that goes to Always remember us this way wub.gif

But yes! This has such wide appeal. Also, it sounds so timeless - much more timeless than pretty much anything else she's done bar maybe Bad Romance which is out of the realms of time and space itself ~

I honestly don't think Just Dance is particularly 'classic' for Gaga - I'd probably put it on par with Paparazzi and Telephone ahead of it, potentially Million Reasons too.

Posted by: davidas Apr 3 2019, 10:00 AM

Absolutely.

I'd put Poker Face, Bad Romance and now Shallow as her signature classic hits.

Posted by: 365 Apr 3 2019, 10:09 AM

Yes!

Posted by: blacksquare Apr 3 2019, 10:12 AM

Absolutely, so much so only Bad Romance will be above it.

'The Edge of Glory' surely moreso than 'Born This Way' and 'Million Reasons'?

You & I deserves to be a Gaga classic tbh, way better than most mentioned here

I don't know, haven't heard it in years publicly.. maybe it differs from market to another. BTW has the advantage being the eternal Pride anthem though

G.U.Y is her signature hit tho?

We need a re-release or gay tbh

As much as I want to agree with this (because TEOG is my favourite single from her), I can't deny that Born This Way is much more well-known and ever-present. Obviously being around gay culture/clubs, as mentioned above it's a staple Pride anthem and gay club soundtrack number whether people want it to be or not. It's the gay anthem of a generation! Maybe i'm just being biased as part of LGBT culture, but i'm sure even away from this, it's a lot more heard day-in than TEOG.

In the US, Million Reasons was big, but here I agree, it's not a classic for her by any means.

Posted by: Wall Apr 3 2019, 05:07 PM

'Shallow' is probably her third most classic song.

Bad romance > poker face > shallow

Posted by: SKOB Apr 4 2019, 07:28 AM

MR might very well be overshadowed by Shallow in the long run as her signature ballad. Which is kinda shame because I adore both and they are quite different.

MR was huge in Italy too, btw, been certified triple platinum!

Bump.

This is a 1000% yes now, right?

Posted by: SKOB Apr 19 2020, 07:01 PM

Totally!

Posted by: Klumzeased* Apr 19 2020, 07:06 PM

Here here.

wondering whether Million Reasons will be overshadowed as THE ballad as that was gaining its own status.

Posted by: Andrew. Apr 19 2020, 07:26 PM

I'm glad she got such a huge smash after 84 years but Why Did You Do That should've done it tbh

Posted by: Jαsє Apr 19 2020, 07:30 PM

Absolutely! Up there with Poker Face and Bad Romance.

I stand by this.

Posted by: Hauspital* Apr 19 2020, 11:48 PM

Its success continues to outdo all expectations. What a monster <3

Posted by: StupidLove Apr 20 2020, 12:13 AM

It's her most streamed track on Spotify with over 1.1 billion streams, her second most watched video on Youtube and should have 1 billion views on that platform by the end of the year, it's constantly covered globally on talent shows (well was) and has been since it's release, it was no.1 and top 10 in countless countries and is the most awarded song of all time... if it's not already a classic in her discography, I don't think it ever will be.

Its up there with Bad Romance, Poker Face, Born This Way and Just Dance. Whether she will quite re-peak like this again is complexing, because I never thought she'd have a worldwide monster hit like Shallow during ARTPOP/Joanne, yet here we are.

The way it's going, it's going to be hard for her to top this - but then we said that 10 years ago too tongue.gif

This thread aged like sour milk.

It's not even a QUESTION now with the records it has broken Gaga.png

wub.gif! I think so too but in a different way to Bad Romance et al. This is a song that we will hear for decades to come and it'll gain new life and love as the decades go. Bad Romance etc are her monster hits for all together different reasons. ALL ICONIC tbh

Posted by: Sour Candy Nov 25 2020, 08:27 PM

The song is 790 days old and still top 100 on Spotify. Who would've guessed laugh.gif

Posted by: Road Salt Mixer Dec 20 2020, 03:02 PM

Probably will be sadly, as a lot of radio classics do tend to be ballads. I don't like the song that much.

It's also sales and streaming classic Gaga.png

In fact, radio was the weakest component when it hit #1 in the US iirc

Posted by: Santa Haus Dec 20 2020, 09:24 PM

It's a classic in every sense of the word now. I can't believe I set up a thread even questioning it laugh.gif

Posted by: Sour Candy Dec 21 2020, 02:48 PM

The karaoke app Singa listed the most popular karaoke songs in Finland and Shallow is #4 and the highest international song (there are only 5 in top 100 and among them is also ARUTW)

Queen of karaoke!! heart.gif

10000% laugh.gif It’s as classic as they come tbh and I highly doubt she’ll release a more iconic song that resonates with as many people as this does. I’m not exaggerating when I say I don’t know anyone who doesn’t like it!

That said I still prefer Bad Romance as her signature dance.gif But she can have an iconic dance classic and an iconic ballad classic
