Six-time world champion Steve Davis has announced his retirement from snooker at the age of 58. One of the best players of all time especially in his heyday.

In his heyday Steve Davis was streets ahead of all other players. That's why some of us disliked him so much laugh.gif However, I think Davis at his best would have struggled against today's best players, in the same way that Joe Davis (who dominated the game even more than the unrelated Steve Davis) wouldn't have stood a chance against today's players.

A real surprise yesterday in Neil Robertson losing to Michael Holt 10-6 there.

Good news to hear that The Masters trophy will be renamed the Paul Hunter trophy in memory of the late three-time Masters Champion who passed away aged 27 in 2006. For me, that has come 10 years too late as Barry Hearn said.

Barry Hawkins leading Ronnie O'Sullivan 9-7 there. Can Barry hold his nerve against a player he hasn't beaten in 13 years?

And Barry did, by winning 13-12.

Ding Junhui is the first man through to the semi-finals after a 13-3 win over Mark Williams.

Mark Selby also through with a 13-8 win over Kyren Wilson.

Now 10-8 to Fu as Hawkins was 9-1 down at one point.

Quite remarkable that it is his first semifinal appearance in 23 years easily the longest gap between semifinals appearances. He fully deserves it, Alan. Last appearance was 1993 the year I was born. He'll play Ding Junhui in the semis.

Also Marco Fu made a fantastic 75 clearance from 60 points behind against Barry Hawkins to win 13-11 after missing three very simple shots on the green, brown and blue to win it. A great match between them. Marco's first appearance in a semi since 2006 and they'll be two Asian players. Marco will play Selby.

I didn't realise it had been so long since McManus was in the semi-final ohmy.gif I can remember when he first appeared at the Crucible.

Ding was 9-3 up in the second session, then McManus pulled four back to 9-7. He played some brilliant stuff here. 8 centuries already in this match and one away from the record of 9.

That match included a 75-minute frame, the longest ever at the Crucible. It certainly wasn't the highest quality match the tournament has ever seen. It's now partly a matter of whether Selby has had a good night's rest after a fairly late finish.

The second session didn't finish until 00:23 on Monday morning with the score at 10-7 to Selby. It really was very slow at times with a 67-minute frame and a 49-minute frame in the last.

The final frame last night was almost comical at times. Both players were clearly very tired and made some very basic mistakes.
