Tonight the first two matches of the quarter-finals will take place with Germany playing France and China playing USA. I can see Germany and USA winning those respective matches.

Predictions:

Germany 2:1 France
China 0:2 USA

Both goals were fantastic. That female commentator was terrible mind you.

Really entertaining first half last night, and very pleased for England. I'm really looking forward to the match against Japan now.

Fantastic performance by the England team. Really looking forward to the Japan match.

Roy Hodgson and the male counterparts take note.

Germany v. USA is the faux-Championship. The winner walks in the final.

Should a close match between these two. I think it will be Germany 2-1 after extra time.

USA through to the final with a 2-0 win over Germany.

How do people see the match between Japan and England going tonight?. I think it might be one step too far for England. They're played very well through throughout the tournament.

Having watched the entire match, the end of that was completely gutting.

Feel so bad for Bassett, how do you cope with that?

Absolute freak goal to concede. 99 times out of 100 that goes wide, or over the bar. I'm convinced those shitty artificial pitches have something to do with it.

Such a brilliant achievement regardless. It sucks so much, but I hope can push the women's game on in the UK. We really needed to have an Olympic team for 2016.

Well, at least they didn't go out on penalties.

Speaking of which, the Japanese penalty did occur in the box as far as I could see and the English one was most certainly not a spot-kick. Reporting this morning seems to consider the first contentious and the second "good fortune".

England's women team were very unlucky last night. Japan's 1st goal should have been a free-kick as the foul was outside the box and their 2nd goal was just such a heartbreaking thing to happen, especially in the last few seconds of the match.

England's World Cup performance will hopefully push the woman's game in the UK.

You have to feel sorry for Laura Bassett though such a freak own goal to concede.

How do people see tonight's third-place play-off match going against England and Germany where England are looking to beat Germany for the first time ever in 21 attempts?

I think it will be a 3-1 win to Germany.

Always going to be some major disappointment, but to come 3rd is truly remarkable. Amazing achievement, and the whole set up should be proud, because this is a massive platform to raise the profile of women's football in the UK.

Who'd have thought the US squad would have been up 4-0 16 minutes in......and up 4-1 at the half....

USA 4-0 up after 16 mins. Almost an embrassment how easy it was for USA. Lloyd's third goal was magic. In the first half it was almost like what Germany did to Brazil in that 2014 World Cup Semi-Final. Japan got a goal back from Ogiami and then another thanks to a Johnson own goal. Two minutes later, USA got their fifth, Japan very poor in a set piece. 5-2 in the end. More goals in that final than the last 4 Men's World Cup Finals.
