BuzzJack Music Forum _ Television _ TFI Friday

The popular 90s entertainment show presented by Chris Evans is returning for a one-off special on Friday which was to celebrate it's 20th anniversary but it has actually only been 19 years since the first series. It is rumoured that if the celebration is successful, it could return for a full series later in the year.

Chris Evans has stated that: 'Lots of the old favourites will be back - Freak or Unique, It's Your Letters and Show Us Your Face Then - plus lots of new stuff that we already don't have time for.' It is also heavily rumoured that there will be a special Top Gear sketch as well, which might also star Jeremy Clarkson.

I shall be watching tonight! I remember watching it with my eldest sister growing up every Friday night along with Top of the Pops because it was when Britpop was its zenith and it got me acquainted with a lot of its big and established names - Blur, The Prodigy, Oasis etc etc. I remember the Spice Girls episode quite fondly (my sister on the other hand, was horrified).

Iconic 90s programme forever entwined with Britpop in my mind.

Topped the ratings on Friday with an average audience of 3m...apparently higher than some of the ratings it used to get back in the day according to Channel 4's Twitter.

I sincerely hope they consider commissioning a new series now, I really enjoyed it (even though Lewis Hamilton was a thoroughly boring choice of guest).

It's shown that there's a gap in the Friday night schedules for something anarchic, live with music to start the weekend and a bit more off the wall than say, Alan Carr.

It was a highly nostalgic watch, and quite enjoyable... at least up until the inordinate amount of time spent on interviewing Lewis Hamilton - he brought it right back to boring 2015. sad.gif

I'm not sure the show would work with a full time revival, whoever the presenter was. I do think there's a gap in the TV schedules for a show that features a number of music performances, rather than just one music guest, but that could be a new show rather than TFI Friday.

In a surprise to no one, a full 8 episode series has been confirmed (again hosted by Chris Evans).

Brilliant news, it's always good to have another TV show for acts to perform on, if anything.

Still need to watch this but 2015 is turning out to be a great year for Chris! laugh.gif

Delighted it'll be back for a proper run! I'll be tuning in for sure biggrin.gif yahoo.gif

I suppose this is testing the waters to see whether there's interest in a regular showing. I think a lot of people will have watched the "one-off" for nostalgic value so we'll have to see whether there's genuine demand for it to permanently return.

So long as they don't book Lewis 'less interesting than cricket' Hamilton again that's all I ask!

The 1st show is in 21 days a short clip showed before Gogglebox.

Returning tonight at 8:00pm. Chris Evans has confirmed he won't be doing anymore after this series due to Top Gear but, if it's still successful, it'll carry on with a new host!

Did anyone see the revival of this?

Thought it was all right.

Watching tonight was my first proper time of seeing TFI Friday and I thought it was good. There was a lot more music than I expected and it did feel a bit rushed overall. I'm not sure it's something that I'll eagerly catch up on, rather something I'll watch if it's on or I'm interested in the guests.

Saying that though, they seem to be getting the big guests in! Florence, Mumford & Sons, Macklemore, Justin Bieber and even a hint at Adele all to come! ohmy.gif

No.

Poor Pixie couldn't even star in the Health Lottery's TFI Thursday adverts.

DON'T EVEN DRAG PIXIE.

It's good that TFI Friday's getting lots of musical guests in, but in my humble opinion it's a pity that they've gone after just the A-Listers. The beauty of the original TFI Friday is that as well as the creme de la creme, they also gave a platform to the up-and-comers, as well as the, um, more niche acts. Where else would you have heard ruddy Napalm Death right after Sheryl Crow?

tbf they did have that unsigned act straight after U2!

Ah apologies, I hadn't watched the show and assumed that those were the musical guests shown this evening. If I'm reading correctly, it was Slaves that were guests, which is a rather nice booking. Also looks like Hurts & Eagles of Death Metal are coming up as well, which looks like it could be interesting.

Posted by: Froot. 16th October 2015, 09:45 PM

Yeh, they had U2, an unsigned act, Take That and Slaves, so a nice mix really!

In that post, I was referring to some of the acts they mentioned would be upcoming in the series.

I'm not feeling this show so far - I imagine a lot of its success and the show's ability to grab the A-Listers will be down to "nostalgia factor".

I fell asleep during the anniversary show earlier this year and last night's was not particularly entertaining. Reminded me of a 90s kid's show like Live & Kicking in terms of format, and I'm not sure how I feel about that in 2015.

I will probably continue to watch though because they've got some amazing guests lined up and I did rather like the 'Rumour Has It' bits where they were teasing an appearance by Adele.

Good show last night, I'll second on the mix of acts it had on as well! Even if it doesn't go beyond this 10 week run, and I've said elsewhere, it shows there is a gap in the schedules for a live, unscripted, 'anything can happen' type show with music and comedy in it. I'm hoping as of next week they bring back 'It's Your Letters'!

Posted by: Froot. 8th November 2015, 11:06 PM

I've seen more of this then I was expecting since the first show but I'm still not overly warming to it. It still feels too rushed for me and it feels like all the guests are very pointless. As said though, it is still nice to see many music acts having a place to perform.
