Both of these songs were considered to be singles during the Kylie Minogue album campaign - which is your favourite and which do you think would have fared better if released?

If I Was Your Lover is the better track but Moving On Up-lite would probably have done better in the charts

Time will pass you by for both, this was always one of the highlights from KM94 for me.

I have a real soft spot for 'If I Was Your Lover', her vocals on that are INSANE! And I love the funkiness of it.

I don't really think either should have been singles though. 'Automatic Love' or 'Dangerous Game' instead though.

These 2 plus automatic love or dangerous game would have made a better single than where is the feeling, any of the 4 mention should have been singles 3 and 4.

I easily prefer Time Will Pass You By.
I think it would could have met with success if it was released as single.

Both of these could have worked as singles, 'If I Was Your Lover' could have been released in early 1995 (with a slight remix edit), it could have showed a different more sassy and harder edged side to 'KM94', along with a sexy and cool music video - this would have slayed.

Then of course 'Time Will Pass You By' (which got my vote) for summer '95. Again different to the previous singles, more upbeat and uplifting (imagine the killer remixes). Shame DeCon didn't know how to promote as this project could have easily been a lot bigger, especially with a killer single run of =

"Confide In Me" - Aug '94
"Put Yourself In My Place" - Nov '94
"If I Was Your Lover" - March '95
"Time Will Pass You By" - July '95

I do believe if they went with these 4 singles the album would have been positioned strongly for far greater success. If the normal single strategy was applied and no big gaps in the release of the singles KM94 had potential to be far greater.

I feel KM94 and X both suffered in similar ways, the single strategy and choices were wrong. KM94 had the correct lead single and Put Yourself In My Place was the correct second single, but after that it all went very wrong.

X had the wrong lead single and if the singles were handled better here, once again the era would have met with far larger levels of success.

KM94 had the potential for platinum whilst X had the potential for double platinum.

As you so correctly put it, what could have been........

Those 4 would have been the best 4 choices and all show a different side to the album. All had opportunities for some great remixes too

Also forgot to point out in my last post, I still don't get why anyone thought 'Where Is The Feeling' was a good single choice, hell it was even considered to be released 2nd before they saw sense - that would have killed the album campaign dead in the water. Neither version of this song was deemed suitable, the album version was very MEH and the single version wasn't very commercial & didn't stand a chance/ Surprised it got as high as #16, considering the 8 month gap, its peak in Australia #31 (I think) is about accurate.

If either 'If I Was Your Lover' or 'Time Will Pass You By' were released after that gap they may have suffered the same kind of fate, we'll never know though will we. Although I did like the video, but was wasted on this and that video would have been better suited for 'IIWYL'

Just for fun I've decided to include fan-made covers of both 'IIWYL' & 'TWPYB'

UK CD1

1. "If I Was Your Lover (Single Edit) - 4:18
2. "If I Was Your Lover (Album Version)" - 4:46
3. "If I Was Your Lover (Fire Island Mix)" - 7:48
4. "Where Is The Feeling (BIR Dolphin Mix)" - 4:12

UK CD2

1. "If I Was Your Lover" (Main Edit) - 4:18
2. "If I Was Your Lover" (Club Mix) - 6:12
3. "When Are You Coming Home"*
4. "Aston Martin" - 3:32

UK CD1

1. "Time Will Pass You By" (Radio Edit) - 3:57
2. "Time Will Pass You By" (Master Mix) - 5:26
3. "Time Will Pass You By" (Paul Masterson mix) - 7:34
4. "Love Is On The Line" - 4:02

UK CD2

1. "Time Will Pass You By" (Paul Masterson's Radio Edit) - 4:19
2. "Time Will Pass You By" (Paul Masterson's Wand Silver Screen Mix) - 6:04
3. "Time Will Pass You By" (Yomanda Mix) - 8:10
4. "Gotta Move On" - 4:29

* Only included that as it was labelled on the fan made cover

I like those covers, as most of the de con single covers were awful.i think if time will pass you by was released shortly after PYIMP it could have done ok but the 8 month gap just killed the campaign and considering the importance if the km94 album it was crazy to handle the campaign so badly after PYIMP was released

Many of the fan made covers in my opinion are better than the real covers.
While i like these fan made covers they don't tie in with the photography theme that was used for KM94.
As we have witnessed multiple times, singles need to be managed correctly to make them as successful as possible and also drive success to their parent album.
Stock Aiken and Waterman were fantastic at handling Kylie's singles.
De Construction really struggled.
Parlophone started strongly with Light Years and Fever but it went downhill after that.
BMG have a tougher task due to the changing market and lack of radio support for older artists, but, they did very well with Dancing.

Deconstruction def struggled with marketing singles and possibly kylie in general but pwl also struggled with let's get to it, but got the first 3 albums and singles spot on.

With PWL they were at a loss as how to how to handle Kylie and at that point, i think both Kylie and Pwl knew it would be the last album together.
That said 2 Top 4 singles and a further 2 Top 20 hits wasnt a bad outcome but at the time it was seen as a massive disappointment.
Looking back, its slightly disappointing that the whole Rhythm of Love era with the golden quartet of singles never registered a number 1 throughout the campaign.

'Time Will Pass You By' for both. It bares the closest similarity to PWL Kylie but there's still a maturity there and her vocal is fuller. It injects a bit of fun into the album which I think could otherwise steer into too serious and grown up.

I could see this working well if promoted correctly. A big shame the era couldn't have got the full attention it deserved.

If it got full attention it would have done so much better and it underperformed largely for that reason.

Kylie needed full focus on the campaign and doing the film at the same time in hindsight wasn't one of most clever moves.
The film was a film she was probably best to have not done.

With proper promo both or at the very least one of these could have made the top 10.

Yes if it was released with full on promo top 10 was possible, where is the feeling made it to 16 without any push but I wonder had they pushed it would it have gone much higher.
