I voted for Kelly & Leona.

Ariana's 'Santa Tell Me' would have gotten a vote too....Shame.

Leona Lewis - "One More Sleep"

Hope it'll be able to chart higher this year than last year. biggrin.gif

Considering it's only 124 votes, I suspect they did. kink.gif

Mariah Carey - All I Want For Christmas Is You
Wham! - Last Christmas
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
Kylie Minogue - Santa Baby
Kelly Clarkson - Underneath The Tree
The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
Leona Lewis - One More Sleep
George Michael - December Song (I Dreamed of Christmas)
Brenda Lee - Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
John & Yoko/Plastic Ono Band with the Harlem Community Choir - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Frankie Goes To Hollywood - The Power of Love

These were my particular favourites from the selection.

Posted by: Chez Wombat Nov 15 2015, 05:29 PM

I voted the Pogues (:/ at me being only the second one), Mike Oldfield (heart.gif) & Coldplay (not actually amongst my faves, but it deserves more recognition) on the poll. The fuck at Leona winning by so much?! I'd have understood Mariah doing that, guess I didn't guess Leona had such a prominent twitter fanbase.

My other faves (didn't wanna tweet spam):

Wham! - Last Christmas
Wizzard - I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday
Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody
Jona Lewie - Stop The Cavalry
The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping
Band Aid - Do They Know It's Christmas?
John & Yoko - Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Aled Jones - Walking In The Air
David Essex - A Winter's Tale

Posted by: Jade Nov 15 2015, 05:31 PM

John & Yoko relegated to disc 3? Oh hell no.

(That is my favourite if you hadn't guessed x)

Posted by: CallumDC Nov 15 2015, 05:32 PM

east 17 should be on the compilation sad.gif i voted for leona, the pogues, sir mccartney, boney m & brenda lee wub.gif

i'm so tempted to buy this album but discs 2 & 3 pale in comparison to disc 1 massively.

Posted by: Ja˙ Nov 15 2015, 05:38 PM

Yeah, looking through the track list, as a whole it's not very appealing... I wouldn't buy it.

Posted by: steve201 Nov 15 2015, 05:52 PM

Ridiculous immissions for - Greg Lake & East 17.

Posted by: Danvember Nov 15 2015, 05:58 PM

Fairytale of New York obviously. Which now has 4 votes. Only 4 sarcasm.gif

OMG I missed that omission and would've definitely voted for it - one of my absolute favourite Christmas songs after Pogues/Mike Oldfield sad.gif

Posted by: steve201 Nov 15 2015, 06:16 PM

Same here, and a no2 hit as well. I'd have voted for it.

No real surprise Pogues have 4 votes it's a Now poll which usually attracts pop fans to vote for their favs.

More generalising. Yay.

How's it generalising? It's true and it wasn't even a negative remark.

Cliff's nowhere to be seen. I have the last edition and disc 1 is always the best.

Because as usual you have claimed that if something by a male/indie/rock/otherwise artist doesn't get adequate recognition on this site, that it's because the user base likes their female/pop and that's the reason they've not shown it the appreciation it deserves. That is not reading between the lines, that's exactly what your comment reads as.

Exactly as I said is right. Isn't it true though? Why does it annoy you when I said it in a non negative way - it's not just his site it's most people interested in the NOW series and that's why The Pogues weren't getting as much recognition. I know it's been overplayed but FONY is generally in all the mainstream public top 10s and I was making the statement in relation to Leona having most votes for a 2/3 year old hit which can't really be called a Christmas classic just yet(although I really like the track and think eventually it will be a classic).

No offence was meant whatsoever so let's just move on.

It annoys me personally because every time you do it and I've submitted votes for these kinds of things, it's like you categorise everybody who has participated it as if to say "oh, they all only like pop music so that's why X or Y hasn't fared well here", and that leads to me almost feeling like I have to justify myself and point out that isn't the case for me.

Posted by: steve201 Nov 15 2015, 07:44 PM

I apologise to you then but I didn't mean it in that way, I was thinking in my marketing chart music way. I will make an effort not to do it again in future.

Posted by: FleetSeb Nov 15 2015, 07:54 PM

Greg Lake - I Believe in Father Christmas, sadly not on the poll.

Posted by: Dobbo Nov 15 2015, 09:36 PM

I assumed you could only vote for 1 track on each CD oops!

Great to see another In Dulci Jubilo fan here, it's my personal favourite Christmas song. The other 2 I voted were Stop The Cavalry & Never Do A Tango With An Eskimo (an ESSENTIAL listen to anyone who doesn't know it).

Posted by: steve201 Nov 15 2015, 10:28 PM

Steeleye Spanish Guadete is one that has grown on my a lot in he last few years lol.

Yes I love that song too. Not that I know many other a capella Latin songs laugh.gif

Posted by: steve201 Nov 15 2015, 11:35 PM

Ha it's probably the oldest original Xmas track - think it dates back to the 15th century obv this is a 70s update tho!!

Posted by: richie Nov 16 2015, 12:15 PM

That and In Dulci Jubilo which is definitely medieval in origin but I think the version Mike Oldfield did was popularised by Bach.

Good to see Mike back on the Now album, I think he was missing for a long time.

Why people still want to hear the Pogues and Mariah Carey is beyond me.

Not sure why Slade seem to have lost a lot of popularity in recent years.

Not sure why Band Aid is also relegated to disc 3 but at least it's the original version.

Posted by: richie Nov 16 2015, 12:19 PM

That Now vote is quite funny isn't it? Over 500 tweets each for Leona Lewis and Mariah Carey and then practically no tweets for anyone else.

EDIT - ah, you can vote multiple times from the same account...which is what is happening with one LL and one MC fan.

Isn't the poll "vote for your favourite Xmas song" rather than "vote for which you think is more of a classic"?

Quite surprised to see John & Yoko tying with Leona in the above poll. ohmy.gif

Indeed but fans of an artist tend to vote for their songs as their favourite.
