This tweet got me thinking, what do you personally think is the most controversial thing that Madonna has done? Was it the Like a Prayer video, the SEX book, releasing GMAYL as the lead off MDNA?

Serious and non serious answers welcomed x

1. Cancelling the latest tour on certain dates. A couple of hours before the show is about to start.

2. Sex book

3. Marry Guy Ritchie without a pre nup.

In my lifetime I’d say the biggest viral and biggest talking points are the VMAs kiss and the BRITs fall.

I wasn’t alive during the sex book release but I can only imagine what it was like considering it would still cause a storm today if someone like Rihanna or Gaga did it today.

The 1989-93 era was peak controversy what with 'Like a Prayer' - 'Justify My Love' - Erotica/Sex. There's been other things along the way but this period was heightened by being a peak in Madonna's career and stardom in general as well as the themes and topics dealt with not being something the general public had really faced in this way before.

In terms of the last decade, I'd say the Drake kiss in 2015 was the most controversial. I'm sure it was all planned out before hand but it certainly raised a lot of discussion about consent and double standards regarding sexual misconduct.

I think they'd have a much easier ride nowadays. I could imagine them being praised for how empowering and bold it was.

I forgot about the Drake kiss! Thanks for reminding me (rolleyes.gif!!)

The Sex Book, given the time, where she was in her career, etc, was perhaps the most controversial, but I agree the period leading up to that was equally as daring.

She's had COUNTLESS controversial moments and here's to many more to come ~

Just thought about adding the cross performance of 'Live to Tell' from Confessions to this list!

One of her best live performances too! wub.gif Killer vocals, striking visual - all drawing attention to a cause close to Madonna's heart. Trust these religious groups to miss the point.
