I wonder when the Channel 4 documentary will air - is it still going ahead? It was announced a year ago today! https://www.channel4.com/press/news/channel...-spice-girls-wt
QUOTE Channel 4 has commissioned Girl Powered:The Spice Girls (w/t), a documentary series from 72 Films. Using hundreds of hours of archive footage and revealing interviews, the series tells the complete story of the best-selling girl band of all time. Starting from the group’s formation in the mid ‘90s amidst the backdrop of ‘ladette culture’, right through to the recent world tour during the time of the #metoo movement, this series examines how modern feminism has evolved through the life story and events that have surrounded the five members of the group. Alisa Pomeroy, Channel 4 Commissioning Editor Documentaries said: “The idea of using the story of the supremely popular and mould-breaking Spice Girls to make a multi-layered social history series was too good to pass up. The Spice Girls mirrored and influenced a generation of women and now, nearly 30 years since their formation, their story sheds light on the coming of age of modern feminism in ways we can fully appreciate for the first time.” The series will be made by the directing team behind the multi award winning Jade: The Reality Star Who Changed Britain, Rob Coldstream and Clare Cameron. Clare Cameron, Series Editor 72 Films added: “Little did I know when I saw them perform live in Sheffield as a teenager, that I’d have the opportunity to make a series about one of the most iconic pop groups of our time and their impact on young women all over the world. Following the incredible stories of the band members is an exciting way of exploring the changing story of feminism over the last 25 years." Girl Powered:The Spice Girls (w/t) was commissioned for Channel 4 by Alisa Pomeroy, Commissioning Editor, Documentaries. For 72 Films, Rob Coldstream will be the Executive Producer, and Clare Cameron Series Editor. Discussion from 2020 about the documentary: http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=6602099 |

(Thank you Maz for finding this screenshot for me ) So the upcoming documentary (which isn't official, in the sense that it's not involving the girls, as far as I'm aware) is airing on Tuesday 14th September! |

Ooh yes I overlooked that it's a documentary series That's great. Assuming that it's 45 minute episodes (taking into account the adverts that'll air throughout the hour), it'll be 2 hours and 15 minutes long overall *.*

Looking forward to it even if there is nothing new in it. Will hopefully have a nice boost to sales when it airs.
That's around the time I'm expecting the Spice 25 pre-order to go up to. |

Do we know something about this in terms of unseen footage or juicy stories? I need some drama. 😹
I hope something new (Emma was the real boss, Geri left because Vicky B bullied her, Mel B was originally meant to be the Beyoncé of the group with the others only singing harmonies, and the real Mel C left in 1996 and was replaced by a copia). |

Yeah, would be good to have some new information.
I would love it if the documentary focused more on the cultural impact and the actual musical legacy of the Spice Girls, which is immense. We all know the story of their formation already, there have been multiple documentaries about it and it is always the same story. If they have 3 episodes, then they can expand much more onto that. |

I'm pretty sure that is the jist of it showing their impact on culture and feminism more than the usual story of the spice girls. |

Dear god please let all this be true... but let Emma be the bully she always played sweet and nice afterall! Emma is well known for being a bit... well, upfront! Remember even in 2018 at the Jonathan Ross interview where she says that Geri 'Doesnt understand blending' and when Geri stood up for herself, Emma very quickly snapped 'well you didnt before, you do now' Little moments like that and her naughty side comes out every now and then lol so I wouldnt be surprised!! |
