I thought I'd keep this thread for the sequel. We got the trailer for The Scorch Trials
 I'M SO HYPED  The book series is SO underrated, especially on BookTube. Hardly anyone goes past book one, sadly! |

I think it's better to have separate threads like every other series/franchise, for neatness and I think it's better for potential google searches.
Trailer looks great. I preferred Divergent to The Maze Runner last year (seemingly in a minority on here), but then Insurgent wasn't as good so I'm hoping this goes the opposite way and wins out this year  Certainly looks promising!

Once again, pleasantly surprised by this. Yes the writing and acting were in places a bit cheesy/dodgy. But I think the other critics are being way harsh - The action is incredible and characters interesting. There are some great twists and turns and I found it thrilling from start to finish.

Underwhelmed. Think I preferred the first movie, this felt too long and didn't really engage me enough. Once again the Divergent series is superior (and Insurgent was only a 7/10 in my eyes).
(I see that the next one is down for 2017 - don't know if I can be bothered even for completion, or maybe Dylan O'Brien will keep me coming back) |

Disappointing. 5/10. A padded bladder buster, and my problem with the film lies with the script and not that great characters. There are some plot holes big enough to swallow black holes, especially the finale which has no logic to it whatsoever.
goodie holds a bomb threatening to blow himself and his friends up. He is standing right in front of the big baddy woman who he promises to chase in the next film. Why did he not threaten to kill HER if she didn't let everyone go free and hold her hostage. Next, after taking off, having given a command to kill them all, they all bugger off in armoured flying vehicles with weapons galore and don't kill them all. Or come back and finish the job. Argh! Also, having escaped over a sand dune in an isolated desert, howe come nobody knows about the massive effing city right next door. Or the other huge city by the foot of the mountains all hidden out of site somewhere below ground level, and peopled with druggies. Best performance? The short cameo from Fireflys' Alan Tudyk shows everyone else how to take a few lines of dialogue and really roll with it. Giancarlo esposito is good too, the younger cast are mostly fine. Great to look at, a couple of jumpy moments, but overall couldabin much better. |

Enjoyed this, I think the first film had way more going for it, escaping from a maze that changes every night while giant spiders run wild at night seemed like a better plot than being in a desert while some zombies chase after you occasionally for me, I suppose that's more to do with less action in the book anyway but yeah this one just had moments that lulled whereas the first never did. I liked Teresa's subplot though so excited to see where that goes.
Dylan O'Brien plays a really likeable lead too, props to him! Overall a little disappointed compared with the first film's high standards but excited for the final instalment anyway. This post has been edited by Josh.: 16th September 2015, 07:19 PM |

Finished seeing this over an hour or so ago and I really enjoyed it! I had excitement for this due to being pleasantly surprised by the first, but I didn't expect much from it, especially after seeing the comments in here/the reviews in general. But I was happy to be proven wrong and liked it so much more than I thought I would. Everything about it was brilliant. A talented young cast (especially Dylan - it's hard to route for the lead sometimes in films like this, but he's doing a stellar job) who can act without over doing it, a decent enough script and plenty of plot to keep you engrossed without ever feeling bored.
HOW did they manage to get away with a 12A certificate when the zombie type creatures are 10x more scarier than the ones we see in the likes of 'World War Z'! They're going to give several kids nightmares  Really enjoyed it and I'm extremely excited for the 3rd installment now (has a 3rd one been announced?). |

Yesss Jonjo! I found the final 30 minutes very gripping too. And the part when they are attacked in the sewers and are chased up the collapsed building was so well done. (Even though the end part of that sequence was very 'The Lost World')
I mean, as far as movies go, I would still probably only give it a 3/5, like the first - but I too am very much looking forward to the final part. |

There were SOOOOOOO MANY changes from the book that it might have had a smaller effect. I was expecting the plot twist in that happened halfway into the book and I feel that they really skipped ahead (if those parts did appear in The Death Cure, haven't read that book yet).
Did they forget about Aris near the last 30 minutes of the movie? I barely saw him after that. (He reminds me of Dane DeHaan a bit  )

I absolutely loved this. The cast did a stunning job again (Dylan and Kaya are by far my favourites *.*) and the plot was so interesting. Gosh it was so scary though
I was with 6 friends and at least 4 of us screamed out loud at one point

Just come back from (finally) seeing this at the cinema and god what a disappointment.
The film itself is fine but to call this The Scorch Trials is an absolute joke. It would be easier to count the similarities this film has compared with the book than to count its extensive changes. It's quite frankly rewritten the whole book  Not sure how I feel about it right now

"Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" is based on the second part of the successful series of books "Maze Runner" by American author James Smith Dashner! The first film was released on September 18, 2014 in my country and it had very good earnings worldwide ($312.3 million) surpassing all expectations by producers and actors involved. "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" was released five months ago but it did not have the same impact as the first part of the series. I had not seen the official trailer anywhere but because I had seen the first part of the "Maze Runner" and I liked it, I was curious to see the heroes face other creatures after their exit from labyrinth.
In the recent years, Hollywood has popped several post-apocalyptic movies where the protagonists are always teenagers such as Hunger Games and Divergent. Hollywood has found a new genre to attract young people to the cinema after sex comedies like American Pie, the splatter movies like Scream and superheroes movies like Avengers! In this case, of course, these particular films are based on best sellers, and their scenarios clicked in interesting script ideas, but not necessarily limited only to them, since they are always accompanied with exciting visual effects and powerful sound effects! The first "Maze Runner" was very mysterious and you could not understand what was happening to the characters of the story until you see the end. In contrast to the new movie, we know what was going on. It has impressive scenery, atmospheric photography and some extraordinary action scenes but I wouldn’t say that overall, it was just as good as the first film. While in some scenes there was agony and suspense, immediately, the suspense dropped and the mood changed. With this, I lost interest in the movie. It should have been a more stable performance so as not to tire the viewer with its progression. Moreover, most of the interpretations seemed indifferent and the director focused on the main character of the book. There was no development in the remaining characters that seemed like “flower pots” in the whole movie. I imagine that this did not happen in the homonymous book but unfortunately, it is something that we always see in Hollywood adventures. Producers are constantly looking to find a hero, a savior, a leader! Oh Jesus! "Maze Runner: The" Scorch Trials" had good and bad moments. I cannot say that I did not like it, but in no way did it cause in me as much excitement as the first film. It just reminded me of, in some cases, things that we usually see in the moderate sitcoms such as awkward interpretations, rushed dialogue and no character development. Maybe, the fault is in the fact that there were several arbitrary script ideas in the new movie and their addition ended up having the opposite desired effect since we saw zombies etc. However, the author's intentions were good and if the producers and the film's actors had faithfully followed the book, I think "The Scorch Trials" would be liked much more by audiences. |

So production on 'The Maze Runner: The Death Cure' has been halted due to a vehicle stunt going wrong and causing major injury to Dylan. The cast are relieved he managed to survive it! It only got temporarily postponed and was scheduled to be back in production by 9th May, but has very recently been put back further to allow time for Dylan to fully recover. However, there could be legal battles and all sorts to completely shut this project down. But for those revelations, we have to wait and see.
I really hope he's ok! He's incredibly gifted and talented as an actor. I wish him a speedy recovery and hope, he'll be back and stronger than ever! |
