Missed the top 40 this week?

Louisa feat. 2 Chainz
YES

Information

Released: 16th March 2018
Label: Simco

Video

Biography

Essex-born Louisa Johnson was the winner of the 2015 edition of British reality television music competition The X Factor. In 2014 she auditioned for Britain's Got Talent, but failed to get past the first audition, due to her being, in her words, too young and unprepared, and described her unsuccessful audition as "boring." She was, however, subsequently invited to audition for The X Factor.

At the age of 17, she was the youngest winner in the program's 15-series history and the first female winner since Alexandra Burke in 2008. Mentored throughout the series by Rita Ora, Johnson triumphed over her competition by performing songs such as Michael Jackson's "Billy Jean," James Bay's "Let It Go," and a vivacious cover of Aretha Franklin's "Respect" in the glamorous Judges Houses round of the competition.

Her first single following her victory was a cover of "Forever Young" by Bob Dylan. Released the day after the X Factor final, it entered the U.K. singles chart at number nine but failed to climb any higher, becoming the lowest ever position on entry for an X Factor winner's debut single. Her debut full-length album was slated for release in February 2016 on Simon Cowell's Syco Music label.

Drake really needs to go. I don't exactly love These Days but it's really getting cruel now on Rudimental to spend 7(?) weeks atop the sales chart without topping officially. It's not like it's doing badly on streams at all either, can't believe Drake keeps edging them out, this song does not feel at ALL popular or even at all known in any of my circles, I cannot fathom how it's on for nine weeks at No.1.

Hard to believe the Sats actually got a No.1 in the end laugh.gif And then their hit-making career was practically over within a year after this looooong build up to that, a bit like 911 in 1999.

So many classics scattered throughout these but a particular shout out to Born To Try *.* Cannot believe it's 15 years since I became aware of Delta. And the always legendary MOR classic Here's Where The Story Ends <3

Afternoon all hi.gif the chart saving me from dissertation struggles for a couple of hours, yay.

One of my favourite dance songs of the noughties courtesy of Utah Saints appearing in the 2008 retro! *.* that was quite a good year for dance remakes, with the sublime 'Infinity 2008' charting during the same year too. I guess 'Toca's Miracle 2008' was a bit pointless though kink.gif

Gareth Gates' 'Spirit In The Sky' is one of my biggest guilty pleasures ever.

'Answerphone' and 'YES' are such good songs wub.gif

But of course we get a Chris Brown and XXXTENTACION song debuting in the Top 40, we love rewarding woman beaters and violence!

Biography

A London-based grime MC of Ghanaian heritage, Stormzy launched his career clashing at youth clubs around his hometown. His performances evolved from grime-only music that showed a love of artists like Skepta to more rap-oriented material that reflected Stormzy's growing appreciation for artists like Drake. Late in 2013 he began uploading his "Wicked Skengman" series of freestyles over classic grime beats; in 2014, he made his official debut with the EP Dreamers Disease. A year later he released the single "Know Me From" along with "WickedSkengMan 4," the first track in his "WickedSkengMan" freestyle series and a Top 20 hit in the U.K. That December, Stormzy performed the single's B-side, "Shut Up," at a match between heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte. The song jumped into the Top 40 following the broadcast, and the rapper launched a campaign to have the song top the charts during Christmas. This boosted the track to the number eight position, and the number one position on the R&B singles chart. Before returning to the studio to record his debut LP, he released non-album single "Scary" in the spring of 2016. Stormzy returned in 2017 with Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky Records), which featured the single "Big for Your Boots" and appearances by Kehlani, MNEK, and Ghetts. - iTunes

U.K. rapper Ramz has a sweeter, more humble approach to his lyrics compared to his peers. Originally born in Mitcham in South London, Ramz penned the lyrics for his debut single, 2017's "Barking," while attending university in Portsmouth. After recording a rough draft at home, Ramz took the track into the studio to work with producer Mokuba Lives. - iTunes
