Superhero
Do you think there will be much interest in this? Im hoping it gets some promotion and it could do ok.
Seeing as he has added Superhero on here which is not from this era he should have added Lie to me.
Superhero was on the US version of the album track 3 and released as the second single in the USA in early 1998. It just missed the Billboard Hot 100 charting #106. His first US single So Help Me Girl had reached US #44 sadly just missing the lucrative American top 40.
So Help Me Girl remains the highest solo American peak for a Take That member with Robbies highest US peak being Angels at #53. A live version of Back For Good closed the American album but not on the International released version which is understandable due to it's American top 10 hit status and sole Gary/Take That familiarity to that audience.
In terms of the USA for anyone who is interested singles and albums Take That related look like this:
Singles
Back For Good: #7 (Take That)
So Help Me Girl: #44 (Gary Barlow)
Angels: #53 (Robbie Williams)
Millennium: #72 (Robbie Williams)
The Days: #78 (Robbie Williams)
Superhero: #106 (Gary Barlow)
Albums
Escapology: #43 (Robbie Williams)
The Ego Has Landed: #63 (Robbie Williams)
Nobody Else: #69 (Take That)
Sing When You're Winning: #110 (Robbie Williams)
Reality Killed The Video Star: #160 (Robbie Williams)
Gary is advertised to perform on Must Be The Music so hopefully that performance will be to publicise this re-release. Open Road however is quite a way from going double Platinum sales in the UK as I believe it is currently sitting at 377,000 copies (300,000 is Platinum) before standing still like most records do. This would mean it would need 223,000 copies to go double Platinum which when you bear in mind Wonderland is rested on 217,250 copies is a tall order.
Maybe if he released another track off the album for promo that could work? Superhero wasn't released in the UK so that is an option as it wasn't on the UK/International album either.
This is a wonderful surprise as i was not expecting this.
Ideally he would have added a new song and released it as a single to promote the album. I would be certain this wont be enough to help the album reach double platinum. That said, if it manages 60,000-100,000 sales overall it would be good. It is one of those style of releases that could go un-noticed unless he lines up some good promotion.
His updated version of ‘Forever Love’ is amazing - hopefully he will perform that in a few places. The album made it to #1 on Amazon pre-orders so there is definitely some interest.
That is great news on the Amazon pre-orders.
A top 10 placing would be a wonderful result for the campaign.
Hopefully it can do ok for him but its such a surprise release (for me anyway) that i dont know how to predict how it will go.
I am looking forward to it but to be honest im now hoping 12 months 11 days gets a release down the road in the same style as i much prefer that album.
I’m more looking forward to 12 months being re released! A repeak for that album would be amazing
Me too and if this does ok it may happen, fingers crossed.
Disappointed with the track list for the reissue. It omits a few b sides and they could have included remixes of love won’t wait. I can’t see this doing very well to be fair!
Its success will likely depend on the promotion he has lined up, if any.
I don't know if Gary aims for the re-release of Open Road to do anything in the charts, but, so far, considering it has had 0 promotion, it's doing quite well: 21 on Amazon and 14 on iTunes + the pre-orders and hopefully the physical stores.
I would die if he re-released 12 M 11D, it's still one of my favorites albums - it definitely beats Open Road - Lie to Me and Walk alone are better that most of the OR tracks.
I hope Gary never again touches Love Won't Wait - him hating that song made me hate it as well.
I am sure it is been released with the hope of some success.
I wonder will it be classed as a new entry or re-entry on the offical charts?
It’s probably a re entry I guess?
The demos sound very similar actually to how they ended up on the record
If it charts high id it it listed as a new entry and if low i will take a re-entry!!!!
Listened to this earlier today. Open Road is still such a beautiful song.
Open road was and still is very catchy with a feel good vibe to it.
The album is number 10 in the midweeks, id love it to stay top 10 but its unlikely. Top 15 should be safe which isnt bad considering the lack of awareness that it is re-released.
That’s a pretty solid showing considering the lack of promo!
Gary performed his first night of the 2018 tour tonight! A very strong set list with a couple of interesting selections including a new song! Live Those Years Again which is all about Take That. Apparently it went down really well and was similarly to Candy!
Set List:
Since I Saw You Last
Greatest Day
These Days
Do What You Like
Live Those Years Again
Open Road
Pray
A Million Love Songs
Something About This Night
Dare
Another Crack In My Heart
Love Ain’t Here Anymore
Sure
Could It Be Magic
Shine
Said It All
Forever Love
Love Won’t Wait
Patience
Back For Good
Let Me Go
Relight
Cry
Sing
Rule The World
Never Forget
Would love to hear the new song,if it's good it should have been the promo single to push the album
Good to see Open Road still top 10!
Would be amazing if 12 Months could re peak and get a top 10 charting
If 12 months gets a rerelease I hope he can promote it in some way do it can get a new and more decent peak. I do fear he won't do a rerelease though for it though as it's prob a chapter he wants to stay away from although he has mentioned he knows his fans have a love for lie to me.
Number 11 today, should be safe for top 15 on Friday.
If there had been at least some promo, OR would surely have been in top 5, if not top 3. It's a shame the record label wasn't more inspired. There are quite a few tracks on that album that could have benefitted from more live sessions: Hang On in There Baby, Are You Ready Now and I Fall So Deep - these last 2 are amongst my favorites.
I really hate it when people say that Forever Love is cringeworthy, when it's one of the most beautiful songs ever. and that Love Won't Wait is the best song on that album - the only good thing about that song is that Gary is singing it. I, for one, would have much rather preferred he sang Are You Ready Now on tour than that stupid song.
Having said that, I'd love a top 15 for 12 M 11 D, one of the most underrated albums ever.
How on earth did the album drop in 1 day from 11 to 25?
Based on sales is no 9, I didn't know streaming counted that much for albums.
Great that the album re-entered and the new song sounds interesting, is he releasing new solo material this year?
Very surprised to see such a fall in one day. Also surprised that it only got 2,000+ sales. Streaming really has changed the goalposts for artists like Gary, TT, Robbie etc
Im shocked by the fall in just 1 day. I was certain top 15 was a cert so the position was so disappointing,
Was it the addition of streaming?
I doubt streaming has that much of an effect in general on the albums chart.
Streaming must be playing a part more than i thought.
I wonder can it stay on the chart at all this week?
Is Gary on tour at the moment ...
Not even top 100 this week.
Most def a hardcore fan purchase only it seems last week.
It's strange he done nothing to promote it as if he had it would have helped get some sales.
It was a very low key release and a release that already appears forgotten.
This likely decreases the chances of getting a similar release for 12 Months 11 Days.
I think he may be more keen to re release 12 months. Even if he gets a re peak into the top 20s then that’ll be a good return.
Strange how he didn’t promote it at all though!
If he decides on re-releasing 12 Months, he will have to promote it so it can finally have a chance of achieving a higher UK peak than it currently has.
It’s probably worth mentioning that many more people would have already had a copy of Open Road.
The same might not be said for 12 months, so it could be the first time a lot of people buy it!
If it was to work from that, roughly 300,000 less people have 12 Months 11 Days than Open Road and would indicate 12 Months should do better. Sadly such logistics most likely do not apply to this instance.
If only it was that easy but if he re-releases I'd be all for him promoting it and performing lie to me.
A main stream tv performance of Lie To Me would be simply delightful if it ever happens.
Gary knows it's a fan fave so it could happen.
At the time the album was released, it would be insightful to know what Gary's preference was for the lead single and at that time did he know Lie To Me would loved by fans.
I just bought garys new book today, really looking forward to the read,I'm not a huge reader so it will prob take me a month to read it all.
You'll probably have finished it by the time my copy gets here
I've seen bits and pieces in the press - especially about Poppy's death, Dawn's diabetes and the tax scandal -, but I want to read the whole thing. I'll probably stay up all night to finish it
I’ve ordered it too! Well, I ordered it last October! Due to arrive on Wednesday - can’t wait to read it! Especially the solo album chapter. What parts are you looking forward to reading about?
His solo work and the take that reunion and making up with robbie I'm looking forward to,il be interested in what he has to say about x factor if it's in it
I also have a copy ordered which is saying will be delivered tomorrow.
It’s been delivered! Ok, going to read it now!
A few pages in and it's certainly worth buying.
I’m nearly at the half way point
It definitely has a few surprises.
I was a little taken back by the extent of his addiction to food and the bulimia,he really has had a true battle with food and I can relate to it but not on his level,I have battled ny weight for years and luckily have it in control for a good few years now and managed to keep 9 of the 10 stone I lost off.I loved when Gary said it's the one thing you have to do yourself you can't just hire someone to deal with as you have to do it all yourself which is so true.
Just going to repost this here, where it should have been
An extract from ‘A Better Me’:
We knew Jason wasn’t going to stick around forever, but when we started thinking about our next album [after Circus], he was already on his way out of the back door.
I know people would give their left arm to do what we do. But at times I felt like Jay’d give his right arm not to. In that respect he’s like Dawn: hates the publicity.
There was only one thing that would keep Jason for one more record: Robbie.
Jason would stick around if the old Take That were together again. And wasn’t that where all this was headed since the comeback? Rob.
‘Yeah, but where is he?’
Rob still felt so far out of reach.
I knew Jay would stay if Rob came back. He and Rob are great mates by now.
Fact: if we weren’t five, we were three, no two ways about it.
I had to get Rob back.
Please, keep posting extracts from the book, guys! It's still a while til my copy gets to Romania.
Will do Milly
I'm a bit taken back by how Gary treated the others back in the 90s I never realised how in control he wanted to stay all the time and I am really shocked how little he felt about the group and the fans when he wanted the split, through his own admission he only ever saw the group in the original run as a stepping stone to his solo career, its only reading the book I can now understand why robbie did what he did.Food was and still is a massive problem for Gary uts dominated throughout the book so far and I'm only a third of the way through.
I'm pretty sure Gary exaggerates a lot when he puts himself down - that, plus the fact that a lot of his self-denigration is probably the result of what the others have told him, especially Robbie. I'm sure there's a seed of truth to that and that he made his mistakes - any talented young man would want to have his work appreciated and be the center of attention-, but Gary does tend to blame himself a lot nowadays. Plus, in My Take, some of the examples Gary gave kind of contradict the fact that he was selfish or didn't care about the others. For some reason, Robbie and, to some extent, the others as well, probably, have instilled in Gary a sense of guilt, trying to justify their own behavior. For me, nothing can excuse Robbie's conduct in the 90s. Out of all them, Gary's the one who stood up to Nigel, trying to defend one of another - Jason, Robbie etc.
As for him seeing the group just as a step in his career, that's perfectly normal. The group was formed very much like Pussycat Dolls, around and for Gary. He's always been honest about that. He treated the boys as his friends, but, when it came to the group, he was the only one who felt all the pressure -while the others were out partying or spending time with their family, he was busy making them more famous and successful. It's only natural that, at some point, he wanted to do music to his own taste and only for himself. And it's not like the others were too bothered about the group splitting.
Many TT fans have a favourite within the group. It is like that with all groups I guess, especially boybands like they started out. But overall it is TT as a group we like either, some like them most as 5, 4 or even 3 piece. I remember Gary in his first height and how arrogant he came across to me. Then he had to be humble and ended in addiction, then there was the next height with TT, x-factor, OBE and there were againlittle humble words. If jason only wanted to do another album with Robbie says a lot. Then there was the next backslash especially the tax dodging, Now it is time for self accusation as it fitsbetter to be humble again.
They would have all most likely played a part in Take That splitting first time round, and to be fair to them all, age changes everything, they were all young and naive the first time round and the years in the industry has shown them how fickle it all can be. I will never fully agree of how Robbie handled the whole backlash against Gary, it in too many ways went a step too far and i dont think that level of badness was ever in Gary, he may be career hungry but i dont ever get the vibe of badness of him where Robbie gave off that vibe for a long time along
with a huge level of self arrogance.
All of them have experienced the ups and downs of fame and its a nice story in many ways how they started out getting on, then fell apart and came full circle as they now all appear to be genuine friends where they weren't years go. The one thing i do like about the book is how Gary has explained the key roles they all play in the group, now its only the three of them its good that Mark and Howards roles are identified and i do agree Take That are one of the few bands that people who actually like them like them as a band rather than the individuals.
Back in the early days i always like Gary and Mark, Howard and Jason were middle of the road but i always found Robbie arrogant. Since they reformed Howard, Mark and Gary i always liked and Jason i was like he seems really nice but i was never convinced that he was needed in the band if that makes sense. From solo outings, i have always and still enjoy Garys solo music the most, Since I Saw You last is my favourite release from them as a group/solo since the Circus and i think its a far better album than Progress, Three and Wonderland.
Another surprise in the book was the importance of 8 Letters, Gary has said its the most important song on the album for all of them. Now i love the song but i would have thought the others wouldn't rank it as much as it was a very Gary solo sounding song but i was really happy to read the significance of the song in the book.
Well I have it fully read and it was interesting in parts but there is far far too much about food in it and felt he could have replaced some of this with more on the most recent 2 albums from take that and also since I saw u last.
I am getting through it but have a long way to go to the finish.
He is touching on many topics but i feel he is only touching the surface on many aspects and not giving alot away.
I do agree about the food topic coming up in every chapter it is the main feature of the book in many aspects,
No I can't see that happening as he still doesn't have the handle on food he needs.Great to see you here kath.
Very sorry to hear that Kath, condolences to you and all the family.Im sure it has been a hard year for you.
Kath, great to see you here too. My deepest condolences also.
There’s a very interesting section about the way the charts have changed and how Gary went in to tell the label and management that they had to change their expectations of the band, considering streaming
Ya, and he has said he knows chart success is prob a thing of the past for them in the singles chart,
It’s reassuring to hear that he understands the challenge now though, rather than not (as some of us felt at times!)
I dont know you Kath but i am extremely sorry to hear this news.
Death is not an easy process and i wish you well.
Another little surprise is Gary is an occasional smoker, I thought he had fully quit.
Indeed, i was surprised by this too and his love for Marlboro Lights.
Great to see it number 1 again this week on the best sellers list. It’s racking up good sales!
It must be a month at number 1 now.
I recently saw the Cordon meets Barlow and it was incredible. I want to get his book too!
What book is that?
I thought it was cordon meets Barlow book,a better me I bought and its a good read.
Interesting news! Gary has co-written the new Craig David single: When you know what Love is.
A very good song and an interesting collaboration!
I wouldn't expect that collaboration of work but it worked.
I would prefer Gary to concentrate on possibly writing some new Take That songs or new solo material for a new solo album.
New Gary album confirmed - sounds like it’ll very traditional Gary/Take That-esc!
There’s new music in the air.I’m happy to announce a new solo record for the Autumn of 2020. I’ve done so much in my career but the one thing I’ve never recorded is a record with an orchestra. Original songs with big contemporary orchestral arrangements. I better be off then ....
This is great news and a good Gary ballad backed with an orchestra could be great.
Wonderful wonderful news, i had hopes he would proceed with another solo album.
Something to look forward to for 2020.
I guess this would mean a tour in April 2020...!
Yes and hopefully plenty of promo slots.
https://www.digitalspy.com/showbiz/a28706411/take-that-gary-barlow-album-2020/
Is it just me or does it kinda sound like there are no take that plans, when he said he had to work out his future?
It is interesting what he says as it could be taken as Take That are no more for the foreseeable.
Maybe it all ties in with the story from last year when Gary revealed personal issues which was never revealed so the 2 could be linked.
I don’t think we’ll see another TT record with the three of them - I think they’ll hold off now and almost re-boot when (and if) they feel Robbie and/or Jason will come back for an album and tour.
They’ll need something like that to cut through the noise and reintroduce themselves again - as we saw after Progress, the 4 year wait worked against them in the end.
Speaking of which, unbelievable that it’s been nearly 10 years since Progress!
It really only seems like 5 years since progress, those 10 years have just breezed by. Hard to know how things with Take That stand, hopefully they have another album in them whether its with 3, 4 or 5 members but id prefer them to leave things as they are rather than release another album like Wonderland as i felt they totally lost themselves in that album. Garys solo album is showing signs that it will be the big ballads, i am prepared for the album not been as good as Since I Saw You Last as i thought that was and still is a brilliant album and it will be very hard to top.
Based on the most recent output from Take That, a break may be the best for the group as the material is not connecting with the public and i would go so far to say it is not really connecting with the fanbase either.
If Gary has listened to the fans of Take That and with the direction we are hearing for his solo album he could benefit greatly from it.
I am very excited for this album from Gary, as i sense it will be a better album than Wonderland from Take That and the new songs added to Odyssey.
I agree, Since I Saw You Last will be very hard to top but if the album is enjoyable i will be happy with that.
After this album he should consider a solo greatest hits release as he would plenty to fill an album. This album at worst should get Gary another top 5 solo album or a number 1 if released on the right week.
After this album he should consider a solo greatest hits release as he would plenty to fill an album. This album at worst should get Gary another top 5 solo album or a number 1 if released on the right week.
If the album is successful ( and i think it will) a solo Greatest Hits to follow would be the right time for such a release.
Yes or maybe include it with the new album to boost sales, similar style to olly murs you know I know album.
That could be a very good idea.
Would also serve as a great reminder of some of his past wonderful singles.
If a solo hits album ever happens lie to me has to be included as it's a massive fave among fans.
If a best of was to be tagged onto the new album the track listing could be as follows:
01. Lie To Me
02. Forever Love
03. Love Wont Wait (could miss out as Gary does not like the song)
04. Open Road
05. So Help Me Girl
06. Stronger
07. For All That You Want
08. Shame
09. Sing
10. Let Me Go
11. Face To Face
12. Since I Saw You Last
13. I Should've Followed You Home
14. Here Comes The Sun
That's a solid best of CD 1 even if released as a separate album, ad. 2 new songs and it's a good 16 track album.to complete I'd add yesterdays girl to it as I love that song.
When the new album is released, Gary's solo discography will look much much better.
There has been great improvements since the release of Sing and Since I Saw You Last.
I am certain his new album be a Top 5 at the minimum so his solo album discography will read so much better.
Ya defo but sing and SIsyl really cheered it up and this will just make it better.
Strong list! I think it’s likely to not include any songs from 12 months, except possibly lie to me.
Superhero/All That You Want should be added.
That would be terrible if Gary ignored 12 Months 11 Days material as his fans (the few who bought it) have great affection for the album, (me included).
I wouldnt be happy at all with that, in fact i had always hoped he would re-release the album.
When Open Road got its Anniversary release i was hopeful 12 Months 11 Days would receive the same treatment.
The album will be 20 years old this coming October so its likely a 20th Anniversary edition will not happen as we would have heard of its planned release by now.
I really wanted a new edition but with the 20th anniversary of it almost upon us it wont happen.
He may do it as a 21 year anniversary and next year with a new album there would be much more attention on Gary.
Yes that could work too but its prob 99% unlikely to happen.
Yeah, I doubt it now too, but I had hoped. Not Least because it would have surely charted better than #34!
With a re-release and the existing sales climate, 12 Months 11 Days was sure to achieve a new chart peak position.
How much lead time did GB give before announcing and releasing Open Road?
It was not long as i felt it came extremely quickly.
How do we think that is album will do in the charts? Possible number 1?
I think the album going #1 is very likely, unless there's another big artist releasing on the same day.
It will likely be released on a week where he will be beaten by a big release.
His sales will be those that would be Number 1 on several other weeks
It was frustrating Gary missing Number 1 with such wonderful sales and it also went on to be very successful in the long term, outside its opening week sales.
Ya its sales are great and much higher than the last 3 take that albums.
It was more frustrating when lily allen pipped him in May after his James corden interview
Fingers crossed the number 1 happens this time.
I would be ever so happy if Gary achieves a 3rd solo Number 1 on the album chart.
Ya it would be great, and I'm hoping at least a top 40 with the lead single.
Gary will need to put alot into the single for it to chart as everything will essentially work against him.
He would need a phyisical CD to boost him, without the CD giants really struggled and it's what got that into the top 20.
A cd single would certainly help him chart much higher as he has the style of fanbase who would welcome a cd single release.
I'd say he will have at least 1 duet on the album, what do you think?
I'm hoping we will be hearing more about the album soon.
Me too, i would think the album should be complete or at the least, almost there.
I am heads over heels in love with the full song. I imagine it will be on his new solo album:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PD-WlQ3CCjs
The little bit that he had posted a few years ago on IG has been my ringtone ever since. I am ecstatic to have the full song now.
Although I adore it, I must say I see its comical side - a song with those lyrics, released at this time, could as well be titled the Corona Hymn
Look forward to hearing the full studio production of this as it has the potential to be one of those great gary Barlow ballads.
I'm assuming the solo album will be delayed now.
Why? He can still release it in November.
I didnt realise it was scheduled for November i thought it was in the next couple of months.
I hope everyone is enjoying the Crooner sessions!!!
What’s everyone’s favourites so far?
P.S. apologies I’ve been inactive. I’ve just moved over to the USA with work, and then COVID hit. Hope you and your families are all keeping well.
Loving the crooner sessions really enjoyed the Jason donovan one.
I really enjoyed the one with Katherine Jenkins and Shane!
They are all to be fair so far and I hope he keeps them coming.
The Beverly Knight one is really good.
Enjoyed the Tony Hadley one today too.
Gary has also been announced on the Children in Need / Comic Relief joint event. Possible solo material platform?
https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/reality-tv/a32069892/bbc-big-night-in-telethon-gary-barlow/
Favorite duet - The Prayer.
Favorite Crooner Sessions: Gary”s solo, When I Say Goodbye - stunning and the collab with Howard on Amazing.
Least fav: Baked Potatoe and the duet with Alfie Boe.
The Becky hill one didnt work for me as the song didnt suit gary but Becky was great.
Ya he has all the adjusting but it worked much better in all the other songs so far.
Live version of ‘This House’ today: https://www.instagram.com/tv/B-4vfvTnbbM/?igshid=1cqcu17puwrg5
Happy Easter, everyone
And a Robbie Gary duet of Shame
https://www.instagram.com/tv/B-7UUcen9ux/?igshid=11eu5kfoezldh
and Shame has re-entered the itunes chart currently at #132
I always expected shame to be a far far bigger hit than it was.
The jls one was very good just saw it today
Cliff and Gary were great, cliff can sing so easily and they looked to have really really enjoyed it.
That performance should hooefully see Sing make a return to charts.
Great reaction, to the performance so it might make a comeback
I wonder if the crooner sessions will be released in some way? A Charity album, perhaps?
Could do, I was thinking sing by get released again with various artists joining in.
The Sing performance was a hot mess. Aside from the fact that we got to hear Gary for just 10 seconds, the choice of "friends" was awful. Beverly Knight, Katherine Jenkins, Alfie, maybe Jason Donovan were good...maybe Nicole as well, but the rest.....
Leona is obviously suffering from lack of exposure and, at each opportunity, tries to show off with over the top high notes, inappropriate in the context of the song, Liam skipped all the falsetto parts....
I much much prefer the Crooner Sessions, they keep getting better and better and Gary's voice is just amazing on almost every song. The duets with the fans are amongst the best, in my opinion. I really enjoyed lately the duets with Alesha and Peter Andre. I wish he could keep them going until he releases the album and that he didn't end them in May.
The crooner sessiins would di well for him, the alesha duet was great, what did you think of the
Mark owen one.
I was hoping I could skip my opinion on the duet with Mark, cause I do not want to sound negative. Since the touring last year, I have really made my peace with all my Mark and Howard „issues” and I was hoping that a duet with Mark would be as good as the one with Howard. To be honest, I did not enjoy it at all. Their voices did not blend at all, I have no idea what that song was - which does not matter much per se, I just could not see its charm - and I could not make two thirds of what Mark sang. Overall, I thought it was a mess - I have yet to decide which was worse: the Sing performance or the duet with Mark
I agree about the mark owen it just didnt work and the voices did not gel at ad all, il put it down to sound or smoking is really taking its toll on marks voice.
It wasn”t just Mark”s voice that sounded bad, the sound in the room or garage he was in was really bad as well. I had no idea he was smoking; if that is the case, he really should give it up, cause it”s only damaging his voice.
On the other hand, last night”s duet was out of this world. I have no idea why Gary was so emotional and with tears in his eyes, but he and Cassie gave a stunning performance. It was sweet and touching and, even though it may not have been technically perfect, it felt like it was on all other levels and layers.
I love that Gary is exploring his voice and using it much more than on most TT songs. It”s doing wonders for him. Never in a million years would I have guessed that he can blend so well with an operatic voice.
Gary is def testing his voice in many different ways and I'm really enjoying the videos as he is pairing with such a wide variety of people. Ya mark is a smoker, tried and failed a few times to quit. Mark in general has an unusual voice which usually I like but not on this one.
Loved the duets with Jessie J (although I'm really not a fan of hers) and with Anastacia.
What did you all think of the duet with Paloma?
I didnt see the Paloma Faith one yet, il look that one up.
His pairing with Ella Henderson was a treat.
His pairing with Ella Henderson was a treat.
New album will be out in November
That's awesome, I look forward to it. I hope we have another new killer lead single.
Ya i really hope he goes all out on the lead single and get a top 40 out of it.
I won't welcome Gary releasing November 6th as I don't him clashing with Kylie.
I will take any other week.
I would welcome both getting to Number 1.
No I'd hate a kylie clash too,, ideally both will achieve a number 1 on different weeks.
McFly are releasing their first album since 2010 on November 13th - so that would be a release week to avoid!
Ya as mc fly will go all out to try and get the number 1 although i still think Gary would have a great chance of beating them.
I dont mind mc fly but dont want them blocking gary.
He will do fine. People need new music. I do not expect Gary to be experimental like TT or Robbie, so his fans, TT fans and also the casual listener will buy the album.
Are McFly even a big act? They have a loyal fanbase, though have had diminishing returns since their first and most succesful album. Gary could potential sell what McFly would in total, in a few weeks, if not the first.
McFly UK Studio Album cert level given.
600,000,
300,000,
300,000,
100,000,
100,000,
100,000. (McBusted)
And speaking of Busted here are their UK Studio Album cert levels.
1.2 million,
900,000,
100,000, (McBusted)
60,000,
Last studio album currently less than 60,000.
Both McFly and Busted peaked with first studio album in terms of sales, however Busted are close to having second album equal 1.2 million threshold.
Gary UK Studio Album cert levels.
300,000,
2nd studio album currently less than 60,000.
100,000,
600,000.
You can't really predict what they'll sell as it's been 10 years since their last album, but the tour has sold really well.
Ya it will be like westlife, sales wont live up to previous sales and I suppose with gary its unlikely the new album wont come close to the sales of since i saw you last.
The release schedule is starting to fill up for quarter 4.
An announcement on the album has to be imminent.
Single should probably hit the radio in the next couple of weeks I think?
Ya it has to be coming soon.
Little Mix have announced their album for November 6th, so that's all the big releases I believe dated for November now. So November 20th is the best date, which will pretty much guarantee a #1 album! Hopefully the announcement isn't far away.
Hopefully he goes with that date, i dont like artists i like releasing on the same day like whats happening with Little Mix and Kylie.
Looks like there'll be news very soon!
Fingers crossed its the start to getting an update and possibly get to hear the lead single.
I think Gary needs to offer multi formats and bundles for the album.
It would really help increase sales.
Will he bother with a single? Live Promotion will be non existent
bundles sell best with a tour, but there is no tour. I wonder how sales for legend status artists will be in Corona time if they are not Adele or likes. I am not following too many news, but only see real high sales with Taylor Swift who is another league and tiktok streaming artists. Anyone an idea how other artists/groups sell in Corona times?
Gar is smart though. Maybe he links a single or promotion to an advert/show/movie release.
Take That hitmaker Gary Barlow unites with Michael Buble for new single
https://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/take-hitmaker-gary-barlow-unites-22745229
The article says the single will be out next week!
Thats great, not long to wait at all.
BTS are releasing an album on November 20th Hopefully Christmas will result in higher sales for Gary though!
BTS' last one sold about 35k in the first week
Gary should easily sell over 35k, im hoping at least 50k opening.
So we know what the album release date is? Elita gets its first play on Wednesday.
Any predictions for the album title based on these letters?
Gary's indeed liked a comment suggesting "Music Made By Humans" so that seems to be the title!
What do we think of it?
Id love that title.
There would be nothing wrong with that title.
An update on how many formats will be released should become known soon.
Album released on 27 November!

I haven't listened the single yet but looking at featuring artists' names this album gonna be a jazz style.
Based on the new single I sense Gary's new album will be my least liked to date by him as a solo artist.
So this will be up against Steps for #1, what are we thinking about that?
I have no idea what Steps might sell...would they do a 50k opener?
Gary has the Xmas market segment and the album preorder for the tour, so hopefully that helps
what tour? He will do a Covid tour?
Checking calendar we understand that there will be at least one more single before album's release, of course.
Without reissue by Harry Styles (actually it could be because it stays inTop-10 during the whole 2020 but without Number 1 still), Adele (only if closer to Xmas), Ed (def no) I'm sure Gary will get Top-2 album.
I think there will be something like that 20k for Steps, 34k for Gary.
With its release date the album will hopefully have at least 3 good weeks of strong sales and a 4th fairly good aswell, as after that it will trail off, im hoping a minimum of 50k sales on its debut week.
That should be his lowest opening units unless his sales completely decline.
Gary's doing a livestream on Instagram tonight at 8pm!
What I wanna know is, who keeps allowing James Corden to enter a recording studio?
James isnt a bad lad to be fair.
James corden is his friend and a step into the US market just in case
Good access to American exposure.
It will prob bring very little there though.
#GBArmy is currently trending of twitter
They should announce what formats will be released.
Given there's an acoustic version and a remix on the album, I assume 'Incredible' will be the single pushed when the album is released.
It looks that way, the momentum will be building from here until album release.
I wonder if he’ll release a sampler of the album.
Also, I wonder...how many people usually preorder Gary/TT albums for the presale tour codes? Reckon Gary has 20k in sales already tucked away?
Would be great if had 20k in the bag already, part of me thinks most of the take that fanbase will be behind the album and even though take thats sales have declined the albums have all had great opening week sales.
20,000 is a good bet.
Opening sales will be strong, the weeks following may drop quickly.
Do we know what albums are released before Gary’s?
I still cannot understand that he offers tour packages. Everyone knows that it is very unlikely that there will be events in arena's in any capacity already next year. Most bands have cancelled their tours.
I was very surprised by the tour announcement as I really cant see it going ahead, concerts and 2021 is something I cant see happening at all.
The music industry can't survive another year without concerts, they will go ahead in some form
I can see this selling around 65-70k in week one tbh.
He’s one of those artists who doesn’t need streams to have a strong week one he should easily get the #1 with the biggest year to date opening in the UK too. He’ll probably have good longevity until the first chart week of 2021 which is where he’ll probably begin dropping more quickly.
If he got those sales I would be very happy.
Those sales are a fair expectation and allow a decrease from Since I Saw You Last.
If a lockdown happens we could look at losing half its sales.
Good point about the lockdown. It would be great to get another platinum album, but album sales are very different again from 2013
Did SISYL outsell III and Odyssey?
Yes, of course.
Approx:
SISYL is 700k+
III is about 600k+
While Odyssey is 350k
Since i saw you last outselling 2 Take That albums was a big achievment for Gary, i just saw the cover of the album on Amazon, im not so keen on it, between elite and the album cover im starting to feel this will be a hugely experimental album and will be hugely different from all his previous albums.
Yeah, I guess he’s got to find a lane that doesn’t trend to into TT territory. That said, it wouldn’t have surprised me if TT went down this road, rather than Gary.
SISYL also outsold Wonderland too. Why did Wonderland get delayed until the May again? It was very strange
Since I saw you last was much better than wonderland and three for me, I think it was a great sound very gary and also kept the sound different from take that but still inline with that style of music. While I love these days I do long for take that could go back to what they do best.
There is traces of Take That's Three artwork in the album cover of Music Played by Humans.
I think the cover for the album could have a good cover for Cry.
I suppose we'll be due the second single soon, next week perhaps?
The second single may coincide with the album release.
Wonder will an instant grat be released just before the album or will the focus be on incredible.
Could Steps outsell Gary?
Hope not. There's also Miley in the mix now, not sure if she's a threat
I would be very surprised if Miley or Steps outsell Gary, based on the songs i have heard so far im much prefering Steps new material to Garys.
Gary was def robbed the last time and its a huge shame since i saw you last didnt get to number 1 but it sold brilliantly, so if the new album gets the number 1 it will make up for that.
Gary was def robbed the last time and its a huge shame since i saw you last didnt get to number 1 but it sold brilliantly, so if the new album gets the number 1 it will make up for that.
Since I Saw You Last richly deserved Number 1 status.
There is solace in it been his best selling solo album by a large margin.
who had the number 1 at that time?
One Direction
thank you, Alex
Ya and the Lily Allen sold really bad overall,.
Ya which is annoying when garys album sold about 20 times more overall.
I like how he addressed it but look forward to him saying in the future I have listened to the fans and gave them what they want. I applaud him doing something new and challenging himself and doing something different but I just wish I liked the results more.
I think it’s going to be more like Robbie’s swing both ways album - especially the duets. I like Elita, and I think incredible is...ok, but hope there’s strong material on the rest of the album
The more I hear of the album I'm less inclined to buy it.
"I don't want to do the same thing, that's boring"
I am very excited for this album to hear the whole album and hear the different styles he explores. Based on that video shared above, it sounds like the album is gonna be really good.
I am a massive Steps so I am kinda backing them for the #1 as they missed out to Ed Sheeran last time. I do like both artists and if the album is good I might book to go to the Gary Barlow tour.
I saw the Odyssey tour and it was incredible. I love Take That so much.
I am backing Steps too, as early signs are showcasing I will prefer their album to Gary's.
I hope Gary gets the number 1 album, it would make up for SISYL missing out
What sales figures do you expect? I read somewhere that Sam Smith sold 20k in one week and the no 1 Adriana Grande not so much more. What do you expect from Gary?
Rooting for Gary as well. He deserves it more than most other artists.
Ariana Grande and Sam Smiths sales were way lower than i expected them to be which worried me for Kylie and Little Mix for this week with lockdown and they ended up selling double that of Ariana and Sam so its hard to call. LM and Kylie have pushed the boat out for sales so it probably will depend on how much Garry and the label get behind the album throughout the whole week of release.
I’m fascinated to know how many tickets he sold for the tour. Normally you’d expect 50-70k minimum, but in these times...
I think many people may have not bothered buying tickets as they feel its most likely it wont go ahead.
I really really wanted to buy a ticket, but there was no insurance policy, as far I as I checked. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will be able to still find tickets in June. Still, I had my album pre-ordered, so that does not impact his record sales.
Gary will be on Strictly on 29 November!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000pzm1
Great promo slot for him and I can see him performing incredible as uts a perfect fit for strictly.
Gary Barlow has reflected on his mixed fortunes as a solo artist in a new interview with Music Week.
Hopes are high for the Take That songwriter and current Music Week cover star's fourth solo album Music Played By Humans, which was recorded with an 80-piece orchestra and comes out via Polydor on November 27.
Barlow pulled in Michael Bublé and Colombian artist Sebastián Yatra for the record's Latin-infused lead single Elita, while his new single Incredible has been licensed for the Argos Christmas TV commercial. Other guest stars include James Corden, Barry Manilow, Alesha Dixon and Beverley Knight.
“I really think this is the first solo album I’ve made that’s not been under duress, actually,” laughed Barlow, speaking in this week's cover story. "It was a doorway to making an album full of musicians. I wanted this album to be absolutely packed with players. Then, weirdly, all this has happened where we’re not allowed to be near anyone anymore and it’s been so strange. I listen to it and just think, ‘Thank God I did it before all this started.'"
Barlow first went it alone after Take That split in 1996. But the performance of his chart-topping 1997 LP Open Road fell below expectations - selling 297,424 units to date, according to the Official Charts Company - particularly when compared with then rival Robbie Williams, whose own solo debut Life Thru A Lens moved 2,105,561 copies.
Open Road's 1999 follow-up Twelve Months, Eleven Days (33,120 sales) limped in at No.35 in the UK, leading to Barlow being dropped by BMG and spending half a decade out of the spotlight prior to Take That's enormously successful 2005 reunion.
“When I think back to [Open Road], I was leaving the band and everyone was like, ‘You’ve got to be the next George Michael’ so I was like, ‘Oh, shit’ and that was a panic," Barlow told Music Week. "Then the second album was a complete disaster because I partnered with Clive Davis, who loved everything about me except my songwriting, so that was quite a big problem."
After Take That's record-shattering 2011 Progress stadium tour with Williams, which sold more than 1.8 million tickets, Barlow released his first solo album in 14 years - 2013’s double platinum Since I Saw You Last (723,202 sales).
“The third one was great, but I was doing it to almost exorcise the other two from my system because it was such a damaging experience, especially that second one," said Barlow. "It took me years to get my confidence back after that.
"So when I did Since I Saw You Last it was a lot of fun, but it was almost like an exorcism rather than a release of a record. This is the first one where I’ve gone, ‘I feel like I can do whatever I want here.'"
Also, Gary’s Night at the Museum is confirmed as the 6 Dec
Gary is also performing at the Royal Variety on the 29th Nov
33,120 sales for such a wonderful album is disappointing.
Through all years since it's release it has garnered next to no interest.
I actually think 12 months is my fav GB album! So yeah, strange so few bought it
I think it's still my fave aswell its between that and since I saw....those sales are awful though, I was sure it would be much closer to silver by now.
Tour pushed back until November!
It was irresponsible to schedule the tour from the beginning. They did it to sell the records, not a style I like
I think that’s a bit extreme.
I knew the tour would be pushed back, i really dont know why they went ahead advertising it as everyone knew this would happen, i know it drums up album interest but paying for tv adds for something that wouldn't happen doesnt make sense. I doubt many tickets sold as people would have known this would have happened.
I doubt it was done to sell the album. Gary could have announced the tour for 2022 and people would still have bought the tickets.
Anyway, hopefully, by summer, all this madness dies down and things can resume their normal course.
For my opinion it is irresponsible to announce a tour while countries go into total lock down. Therefore there must be a reason behind it and what else than selling the album? Only to delay the tour 6 weeks afterwards. I doubt that many people bought the tickets and neither would they for 2022 in these times and that is independent of Gary, TT, Robbie or even Taylor Swift. At least in Europe, USA maybe different. Fortunately this does not have an influence on the quality of the album. It will also sell without these tricks as Gary is a great song writer.
Not all people feel the same way about this pandemic, Elisabeth. Many of us still hope that politicians come to their senses, eventually. I would go in an instant, even today,, to Gary's concert. I just need an insurance that the concert goes ahead. I bought the album without the ticket, just as many fans did. Both Gary and TT have always had this way of selling the tour, so why is it only now a ruse on Gary's part?
If this is a trick to sell albums, then many artists do it. Every artist has a strategy. Unfortunately, Gary didn't have a wife going into labor to film this time

Exactly half the songs on the standard edition of the cd have features, he could have almost went ahead and done a full duets/collaborations album.
Gary is the following a trend that is heavily dominant in the charts which is having a feature on a song.
It is an overused trait that shows a disbelief in the material and a fear of a solo release.
Ibrahim, Avishai and Chilly are all instrument artists - so only 4/14 actually have vocal features.
The single he's performing is Incredible, which is not a feature. Most people will buy or not buy the album based on this song, during the release week. Regarding fans, I doubt they care very much who else is on the album. Most of them pre-ordered the album before they even knew about the features.
After listening to Gary's interviews, it's clear to me that this album was, for him, a project close to his heart, that fulfills one of his dreams and that, in no way, is he chasing trends.
Exciting!
As i said previously i have struggled with the material so far and i am hoping some of the songs to come i will like, based on what i have heard so far i cancelled my pre order as i just wasnt feeling the music, hopefully some new clips will change that.
Previews for all the standard edition songs are up on his stories! Sounding like an absolutely gorgeous album, can't wait for Friday
I'm excited too. Loving the sound so far. I don't know if it can beat SISYL, but I will most definitely enjoy this album.
Incredible already puts me in a Christmas mood every time I hear it. The acoustic version is gorgeous.
I just wish When I Say Goodbye was on this album as well. It's a stunning song, that should have been given more attention.
Interesting read! Let me Go isn’t that far away from platinum!
https://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/gary-barlows-biggest-solo-hits-on-the-official-chart__31684/
Let me go will def get there sometimes next year i think and it will be good he has at least 1 solo platinum selling single.
Oh my god, I am loving the album so far. It is interesting varied and sonically diverse.
I’m up to Elita, which obviously I’ve listened to loads already 🤣, but I’ve loved every song so far!!!
The Day the World Stopped Turning is soooo beautiful. Meanwhile, Who's Driving This Thing is an absolute banger, full of fun and energy.
I'm loving everything I'm hearing so far. Unfortunately, I might have to wait for the album to arrive in order to listen to it fully
Hmmm having listened to more, there are a lot of great tracks.
However, some are lyrically strange like Bad Libran. I just don’t believe in the Zodiac stuff..
Also the song about a doctor dying at 35 had weird lyrics also
It’s been getting good reviews from the media...which is pleasantly surprising. The duet with Beverly knight is good! And I like the first song so far, still working through the rest of the album
I'm at the Bad Libran right now. I like the story and I find it comical - the Libra acting Capricornish
Someone on the main forum said this album makes him comatose....I wonder if he really listened to the album....It's so uplifiting and energy-filled, that I don't see how anyone could find it boring. I understand it may not be to everyone's taste, but if it's one thing this album can't be accused of is being soporific.
It's obvious the focus with this album was more on the music than on the lyrics in most songs, which, for once, I don't mind.
Now, I really have a diversified playlist of Gary songs.
I'm staying with Liam Gallagher song today
On Gary's album I really liked You Make The Sun Shine from Deluxe edition.
His voice fits to this song perfectly.
I'm really hoping Gary can have a no 1, finally. His album is miles better than Steps' - at least for me. I cannot even stand to listen to one entire song of theirs.
It seems Gary has 20k of pre-orders.
As a fan of both im rooting for Steps as i havent bought Garys album, im going to listen to a few songs later to see if there is anything i like.
Having just listened to the album, here are the songs, in alphabetical order, I liked the most:
Bad Libran.
Incredible.
Let's Get Drunk. -very Jamiroquai like with the strings-
Oh What A Day. -on first listen, think this was my favourite-
The Kind Of Friend I Need.
This Is My Time.
What Leaving's All About.
Who's Driving This Thing.
I really really like Enough is Enough, that’s a great single I think
I really wonder what the chart situation will be...how many do we think Steps will sell? Or Miley
Seeing as I am neither a Steps nor a Miley fan, I hope whatever they sell is less than Gary's numbers.
Very beautiful performance on GN show.
I know he's doing Elita on Strictly, so, where is he singing Incredible?
Loved the performance on Graham Norton! That song really comes to life when performed live.
I believe he’s doing Elita on Strictly
https://www.facebook.com/watch/live/?v=894503497751741&ref=watch_permalink
Elita sung just by Gary sounds really good.
I like it that he explains why he changed Incredible with Elita for Strictly.
Looks like this is going to be very close...Gary is on 23k and Steps are on 21.5k
Gary has Strictly ahead. Both figures seem to be quite low
Does strictly really translate into decent sales?
Gary promoting in Ireland he is on the late late show next friday night and also briefly appeared on the toy show last night here and the album got a plug.
There are some great songs on this album! Who’s driving this thing; enough is enough; my kind of friend; let’s get drunk: Elita; incredible
Number 1 in the mids on 23k, 1.6k ahead of Steps.
Is that a good lead at this point? Or no? Ideally I’d liked to have seen more cushion...
Apparently Steps are closing the gap...
It could be a close run battle all week.
On first listen the album is disappointing.
After the wonderful high of Since I Saw You Last this album feels a huge comedown.
Good performance on strictly! Basically Gary do three vocal performances.
Album is a tricky one. I really like half of it, and not initially keen on the second half. Maybe it’s a grower
I think I preferred the graham Norton performance slightly.
Liked that tune in Strictly, really nice ..
I prefer the solo version of Elita.
Hopefully it can go top 100 this week.
Gary’s performance for Magic!
Pt1: https://youtu.be/LrNmvjAoq4k (Incredible & This is My Time)
Pt2: https://youtu.be/1tognAxcB9A (Greatest Day & Merry Christmas Everybody)
Looking positive...Gary is now 4K ahead of Steps at 29k. Steps have also started to fall down iTunes. Gary should now be in the lead there, with #5 and #41.
On Amazon he’s #5, #23, #27, while Steps are #15
He’s reduced the normal version of the album on Amazon to £4.99 for cyber Monday (nice little entry point for those who aren’t too sure about the direction of the record).
There’s not much love for GB in the main forum. Quite surprised actually by some of the comments over there...
There's never been too much love for Gary outside his fanbase. And even inside the "fanbase", he gets some horrible comments.
Now the situation is worsened by the fact that Gary is outselling Steps - which, in my opinion, is the normal order of things - and this doesn't get endear him to many people either.
The guy can't win, no matter what. Other people get away even with murder, he can't get away with an album he's made out of passion (and which is excellent, in my humble opinion).
Gary is sometimes doing things which I wonder why he does them He does not need it. Like trying to sell the album together with a tour he already must have known will never take place (aside he lives on another planet). These things are not making him friends.
I doubt that the dislike is because of him outselling Steps. Neither he nor Steps really sell well and both are only selling in the UK. Without tour at least this can only be a project of heart and none for profit.
As the tour thing is impacting sales in the 1.week it will be interesting to see what will be left in week 2 for the general sales. At least he will have a no 1 solo album
1 Gary Barlow - Music Played by Humans (28.6k) *
2 Steps - What the Future Holds (24.4k) *
Gary looks almost certain to achieve to 3rd solo number 1 album now.
It’s still a little too close for comfort for me...
That said...Gary is now ahead of Steps on iTunes (4 and 47)
On Amazon, Gary is #2 and Steps are #13 (but Steps have reduced their price to £4.99)
I think artists more and more are showing you have to try everything and anything to get albums selling, we have sen loads of it this year so i dont see any harm in Gary doing the same.
I’m pleased Gary and his team have been versatile in reducing the price and targeting customers. Did feel like the TT machine was very difficult to move once the engine has begun
Albums take alot of work to get sales these days bar a very current artist like Lewis capaldi or adele and ed Sheeran and I think artists have to pull out all the stops nowadays to even achieve gold and its good to see Gary and the team putting in a good effort. MPBT will nearly outsell 12 months 11 days full total in just 1 week.
I hope that he will get a number one. He is very talented, independent if you like one album more than the other. This is personal taste. What I dislike is playing commercial cards to make sales like 28,000 - come on - playing with the emotions of naïve fans. I mean who is able to think knew that there would be no tour. But there are also those who simply do not think when it comes to their 'star'. He does not need that. He can play fair. I agree that this does not harm him with the general public but for others it does as it is part of a picture. There are artists who do not do that and do not have 70 million and a 30 year career
Naive fans? Oh come on, everyone who bought a ticket knew the risks.
The tour will eventually take place, so...what's the actual harm? It's not like fans have already bought plane tickets or made hotel reservations.
Elisabeth, is it really more awful to sell tour tickets instead of filming your wife in labor? Were you that bothered by Robbie's actions?
It seems to me you are just looking for reasons to pick on Gary, honestly.
Whatever people might think of the new material, Elita and Incredible are performing really well on iTunes and have been for weeks. I know the iTunes sales are very low, however it still shows what songs people are most interested in. If only Gary's fanbase discovered streaming
My album is yet to be delivered, so, in the meantime, Spotify it is for me. And I think that even after the delivery, I will still listen to it on Spotify. The physical albums are more of a memorabilia. I'm thinking of buying a vinyl and framing it.
His intimate gig tickets got sold out within seconds LOL
I wonder if the CD + Ticket bundles count towards his sales this week?
I think they will be counted.
Sold out in 11 seconds apparently. Another gig has been added
Apparently the mids are:
today's mids in album should be: Gary 32K, Steps 27K, Boe/Ball 20K
Good sales, hopefully 40k for the end of the week.
Still worried about Steps...on iTunes they’ve overtaken Gary #2 vs #5 and #61
On Amazon, Gary is #2 and #15, Steps have jumped up to #3
I cant see Steps closing the 5k lead, they may narrow it but i would be highly surprised if they overtook at this stage.
Gary is performing on James Corden’s Late, Late Show tomorrow
I bought the standard version of this and it's a reasonably enjoyable album, although big band/swing wasn't exactly the sound I was hoping for from from this project. It was a fun one-off with Take That's Out Of Our Heads and he does the genre well, but it's not always my cup of tea.
I do like Elita, although it's more latin inspired than the rest of the album and a couple of the ballads are nice. It's all very listenable but there's nothing I can see myself rushing to hear again, I guess it's just not my genre.
I was thinking after his 'Crooner Sessions' that we might have got a pop duets album this time, like Tom Jones' Reload, and I was quite intrigued by that prospect. I know there are a lot of collaborations on here but I was hoping for more pop-leaning people like Delta Goodrem/All Saints/Claire Richards/Robbie who he duetted with on those. The Beverley Knight/Michael Buble/Alesha Dixon/Barry Manilow and James Corden songs could have all fit on that for example, along with other more pop duets.
Just listened to the bonus tracks on Spotify and they're pretty solid, Let's Get Drunk is almost like a 90s Take That song musically, although not lyrically! And the F9 Charleston remix of Incredible is fun, and with a couple of unexpected samples.

I'm shocked at how well Ball&Boe are doing
But that's a good lead for Gary! Hopefully it continues to widen
Here’s the official mids from yesterday and today:
Albums
1 Gary Barlow - Music Played by Humans (32.5k) *
2 Steps - What the Future Holds (27.3k) *
3 Michael Ball & Alfie Boe - Together at Christmas (20.2k)
4 Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts (10.0k) *
5 AC/DC - Power Up (8.0k)

3 Michael Ball & Alfie Boe - Together at Christmas (26.4k)
4 Miley Cyrus - Plastic Hearts (11.7k) *
5 AC/DC - Power Up (9.8k)
So, there are no chances for everybody then.
Congrats all Gary's fans and a hero himself!
Not a fan of this LP but I think it's important to him and for TT story to get this success: first of all, TT and all around this band - is a really successful story and they should continue this; second, it's good that he has got this support for slightly expiremental record. It could be a good example for other artists too.
That’s a great point! It’ll be 3 number singles, 3 number 1 albums and 3 additional top 10 singles.
Couple that with Robbie’s 7 number 1 singles and 11 albums...
And then Take That’s 12 number 1 singles and 8 number 1 albums. It’s a pretty impression return and probably the best return from a band and it’s solo members?? 22 number 1 singles, 22 number 1 albums.
Well, here it is (we could go to the chart topic, OK?):
http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=134445&st=20&gopid=6728197&#
It highlights Take That in general as a band were a cut above all the others.
So between them all - that's 24 number one albums?
Gosh - that's amazing.
Congratulations to Gary on his number one album.
GB 41,9K
Steps 35,1K
B&B 30,6K
Looks like Gary has got it!
Gary has also moved significantly ahead of Steps on Amazon and overtaken them on iTunes.
Could get close to 50,000 sales in week 1
Gary is safely going to be Number 1 now and but i think his sales will be much closer to 45k than 50k.
Yeah, good point. Although...with lots of high profile promo next week, it might do a good chunk then too
The scheduling of promotion will help sustain sales beyond week one.
The album should easily secure Gold status by year end.
Just looking at the release schedule, it looks like there’s nothing big coming from now to Xmas. Gary has a chance to stay in the top 5 for the Xmas period. Maybe even another week at #1
Debuts at Number 10 here in Ireland
Sorry, yeah, I mean, before Xmas he might get a boost again (maybe)
Good news for Ireland. Great to see another top 10. Was there any promo? Assume the night at the museum and royal variety get shown in Ireland?
Gary has just announced the number 1 on Twitter (maybe before the official charts? )
Well guess what, we did it, we’re the number 1 selling album this week ! I want to say a wholehearted thank you to everyone out there who’s supported me and this record, it means so much to me.
Finally, he gets his much deservved number 1!
Gary’s solo career suddenly looked much better after the last couple of albums!
3 number 1 albums (4 top 5)
3 number 1 singles (6 top 10; 8 top 20)
Vey good to hear!!
Time to update your signature Jay?
46.5k sold
Hope he continues to sell well.
Music Played By Humans, Gary Barlow’s first solo work for seven years, becomes his third such No.1 album with a suitably large sale of 46,406 (43,887 of these physical). He previously hit the top with his solo debut Open Road (1997) as well as with Diamond Jubilee-themed mini album Sing (2012), on which he was credited alongside the Commonwealth Band. To this total we of course must add the eight No.1s he has achieved as a member of Take That, the most recent of these coming in 2018 with Odyssey. Barlow’s biggest selling solo album to date is his 2013 comeback Since I Saw You Last which has posted 723,521 chart sales since release.
A debut in Germany too. Hopefully he promotes over there
Gary Barlow: First Week Sales
048,162 Open Road (#1, 1997)
004,749 Twelve Months, Eleven Days (#35, 1999)
040,020 Sing (#1, 2012)
116,151 Since I Saw You Last (#2, 2013)
046,406 Music Played By Humans (#1, 2020)
Third solo number 1 and almost identical opening sales to his debut.
Congratulations to Gary in achieving his third solo Number 1 album.
This will mean a lot to Gary.
Must admit, I’m amazed open road was so low opening.
And 12 months...would 7k sales in a first week equate to the same type of #35 placement if he released it now?
Poor 12 months, it so deserved/ deserves so much more.
7k though was at a time album sales were far higher, in todays climate it prob means about 1500 sales.
Well done to Gary, it is a great eclectic album. I did want Steps to get #1 but I am a fan of both
I feel confident of the album remaining Top 5 this week.
Hope so! It's currently at #6, and that is without the boost from his show yet I think?
Ya the boost from the show isnt in that yet so i think he will easily move back into the top 5 and overtake shawn mendes.
Has Gary any further promotion coming up?
Yes, Royal Variety on Tuesday night! Then the one show the week after I think
My bet is Number 4 this week.
Number 5 in todays mids with 9.7k sales.
I'm really enjoying this album. Even the couple of songs that had unusual lyrics like Bad Libran and Before We Get Too Old have grown on me
The album is experiencing a solid second week performance.
Looks like it might go #4 tomorrow
Great that its holding up so well, could be on the verge of silver this week.
Definitely silver this week.
He’s releasing a deluxe version with the night at the museum audio included - Dec 18
Very exciting! Hope it's on streaming as well
Second disco tracklisting:
1. Turn Off Your Phone
2. Greatest Day
3. Incredible
4. Elita (feat. Michael Bublé & Sebastián Yatra)
5. Enough is Enough (feat. Beverley Knight)

9. Let Me Go
10. Rule The World
11. Merry Xmas Everybody (feat. Alesha Dixon, Alfie Boe, Rick Astley, Jason Donovan, Ronan Keating & Beverley Knight)
Let me Go! They should have played that live
Yay, can't wait!
Gary has sold 13.8 k this week. If I remember correctly, he sold almost 47k last week. Doesn't that mean that he should be certified silver?
Ya thats def silver now, probably be on 62k in total tomorrow.
Good sales and performance
Could the release on December, 18th, help him get the Christmas no 1? Could he outsell Alfie Boe and Michael Ball?
Really, really like the duet with Alesha. Wish it had made the final cut.

Gary has a good chance to be in Top-5 on Xmas week. I wish him this level or even better.
Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift, B&B and Buble have more chances to be Number 1 this time but we will see.
The Christmas Number 1 album could be anyone's this year and Gary could be in with a chance.
The Christmas Number 1 album could be anyone's this year and Gary could be in with a chance.
Gary drops to #5 this week, but pleased to see 2 weeks in the top 5
ya and sales are almost 14k which is great.
Down to 25 in Ireland this week from number 10, with gary doing an interview and performance on the late late show last friday night I expected a far better outcome for this week.
Don't worry, Robbie is no on Irish Chart at all = )
Sales 15805 - almost 16 k this week. This means he has sold nearly 65k so far. Could gold be possible this year?
Great to see him holding up well this week
Hopefully Gold is a possibility in Jan
Hopefully it holds steady this week.
Number 8 in todays mids so hopefully another 15k this week or more.
Next week, he'll definitely sell more because of the new bundle release.
I just wish he'd release vinyls in more than one colour, cause I'd like to have them framed.
Ya next week will prob be his second best week overall with the bundles and get him back in the top 5 and closer to Gold.
Think he might get nominated for a Brit this year? Best male maybe?
Hopefully even though I know he wont win.
The bundle release could return the album to Top 3 status.
Hopefully the bundle sells well.
I am sure there are some plans in place to try and help the album with continuous sales for 2021.
I am sure there are some plans in place to try and help the album with continuous sales for 2021.
Not top 5 today
Leona Lewis will be supporting Gary on the MPBH tour now next year!
I think its 8 today in the mids, really happy to see Leona as the support act
I expected Gary to have a tight grip on the Top 5 this week.
Not excited at all about Leona being the support act, but....it is what it is....
Rick Astley was superb.
I was expecting Gary to drop a little, because fans have now pre-ordered the bundle which is to be released tomorrow, so there was no reason for them to purchase something else this week.
I'd love to see Leona and Gary but I won't hold my breathe that it will go ahead.
I've already booked for five other concerts next year but I doubt any of them will go ahead.
I'll hold off buying a Gary ticket for now but may get one if it definitely can go ahead.
I like it =)))
Throughout the era, Gary is really challenging himself vocally.
Gary has just been amazing this year, this is really good.
Firmly Top 10 today setting the album up for higher next Friday.
Another 10k sales this week. Where does that put him? 70k?
Thereabouts,15,000 looks manageable this week.
Non mover at 25 in ireland this week and his night at the museum gets aired here on wednesday night which should help him get a few extra sales.
Number 5 in the mids with 7,726 sales.
Great start! Would love 20k this week
Sales are close to 12,000 in today's midweek information therefore, there is a small chance of closing the week close to 15,000.
It's a good chart run so far aswell.
Number 6 this week.
Thought it was safe for top 5 this week
Isn't it no 5, though?
Sorry, just checked. It was no 5 on the sales chart. Michael Buble's streaming must have been insane to get him that position.
Anyway, album wise, sales are more important. I'm curious whether MPBH gets certified gold this week or not.
It's on about 86 or 87k so depending how it holds up he will be gold in 2-3 weeks time.
The album has a strong Theatre soundtrack feel to it.
There is no "I really love" moment but What's Leaving All About I would welcome as the next single.
It is Gary's weakest solo album to date but it had increased my love for Since I Saw You Last.
I didnt buy it, ive streamed it but will buy it at some when its selling cheap just for collection purposes but it's a cd that wont get played, the album does nothing for me at all.
Down to 13 in the mids.
Closed the week with its midweek Number 13 position.
Closed the week with its midweek Number 13 position.
It's so strange it's only 13 in the charts, while it's 2nd on sales.
Physical sales are low at the moment post-Christmas, so streams will be boosting the others up
I estimate he is about 7k away from gold.
Wonder if he’ll release another single?
I'd say he will and possibly end of this month.
As Gary is not a stream friendly artist the album may drop significantly this week as actual physical sales will be extremely low.
Not too bad, number 22 in the mids although sales are terrible, only 2.4k at number 1.
If the decline can remain at this rate the album will place decently this week.
It will probably take a month for the album to get to gold now that sales in the album chart in general have falling off a cliff.
I predict Number 29 for the album today.
36 ???? I still believe some streaming reports must be exaggerated.
Anyway, going by his placement, Gary must have sold around 1k - very little, but, at least, they are ACTUAL sales and not some stupid streaming units.
Yeah, we'll have to wait a bit for that gold certification.
I hope the Crooner Sessions will remind people of Gary and will push them to buy the album.
Kylie sold over 2k at number 43 so he probably sold closer to 2.5k this week at number 36.
The guy at 37 sold 1832, so how can Kylie sell over 2k at 43?
Sorry earlier reports had indicated kylie was over 2k.
I think the albums time in the top 40 has come to an end for now.
A new single should be released soon.
Down to the mid 50's today
That's terrible I have no idea how Neil Diamond is still so high up though
I expected Neil Diamond to falling much faster by now, this weeks big fall for Gary will be delaying the album going gold.
There are likely more plans for the album in the coming months to attract sales.
Music Played by Humans is close to 5000 away from Gold certification.
Not top 100 in the mids today
I missed that when reading the chart, that's a nice surprise and should see another thousand sales this week.
It appears "Enough is Enough" is the next single as its been added to the Radio 2 A-list this week!
