Can anyone confirm this !? I cannot be more excited !! w00t.gif

I never "stanned" for her and was never interested in her life or gossip, but she's definitely my favourite recording artist ever. Her albums are gems, all of them, so YES PLEASE. cheer.gif

"Life for rent" is my favourite album ever, and "Safe trip home" isn't far behind.

I love me some Dido, hope she's recording wub.gif

Wait some good music!

Posted by: pippa 15th September 2017, 06:24 PM

I have always enjoyed Dido, but i cant see her having a hit again and i fear her album will struggle to sell 50,000.

Posted by: StillJupiter 15th September 2017, 06:29 PM

Wonder what direction she'll go this time. Hoping for some Ellie Goulding-esque dark dance tunes, even if it's only a few among other genres.

Ideally it won't be another pure acoustic folky album that's nothing like her first two.

Oh it says new album in 2018 and shes back to the Life for rent sound
Source is the always reliable The Sun though wink.gif

I absolutely loved 'End Of Night' from her last era. That's about the only thing I've taken notice of from her since Life For Rent though.

You might wanna check out Blackbird and the title track from the Girl Who Got Away era if you liked End of Night. Both similar sounding.

The Day Before the Day from album 3 is her best song ever imho,

I believe it's about her father's death. Maybe it's just me projecting a similar situation from my life, but I think she is telling how she didn't get to say goodbye or even see her dad on the day he died.

that last verse that goes
"I didn't get to say goodbye the day before the day
Was trying to get to work on time that's why I turned away
And missed the most important thing you ever tried to say
I've lived my life without regret until today"

"Let us move on" is far stronger in my opinion and it should've been the lead single.

I adore this song wub.gif

I think a lot of Safe Trip Home dealt with his death, Grafton Street is another one that is really emotional.

True !
"Day Before We Went to War" on the last album is also a gem in the same genre.

Most of the last album was a masterpiece tbh.

Posted by: Hayzayy 17th September 2017, 08:06 PM

I'm glad to hear some love for her on here, I thought everyone would hate on her wub.gif

Posted by: Martyn 17th September 2017, 08:15 PM

My friend once said that "I used to like her, sadly Dido lost it." So I put in the quotes section on Facebook "Dido lost it"- to quote Emma. Sadly she got angry about this and kept coming into my room and hitting me until I deleted it (I lived with her). It was replaced by "There was never a quote here".

Sadly I can't think of Dido and not laugh/cry about the above.

Posted by: Spiceboy 17th September 2017, 11:57 PM

Ah I do like a bit of Dido. Not a huge fan but she has a nice voice and there are some nice tracks on her albums. She really left it far too long between the second and third album, huge mistake really. blink.gif

Posted by: Bjork 18th September 2017, 06:22 AM

but I think Dido didn't care, she didn't wanna be a super star so it was a concious decision to go low-key from album 3 on...

Dido always gets a lot of hate in forums but it's totally undeserved

One thing that I like is that most of her best songs are co-writes with Rick Nowels, who ended up being Lana del Rey's cowriter too

Bumping because this article has arisen

BMG has signed Dido ahead of the release of her fifth studio album in early 2019.

The British artist’s previous long-standing record deal was with Sony Music.

Over the course of a 20-year career, Dido has sold more than 30 million albums, the first of which were two of the biggest-sellers of all time.

The new album will be released worldwide by BMG. Dido co-wrote and co-produced it with her brother and fellow BMG artist Rollo Armstrong of Faithless.

BMG UK President Repertoire & Marketing Alistair Norbury said: “We are thrilled to partner with Dido for her new album.

“She is the quintessential BMG artist; an international icon who is returning after five years with an outstanding record.

“Dido has the rare ability to combine an art sensibility and a distinctive viewpoint on contemporary issues with infectious melodies which touch millions.

“Her new album will be one of the music highlights of 2019.”

Dido said: “I couldn’t be happier to sign to BMG, their enthusiasm and passion for the record was evident from day one.”

Dido recorded her first demos in 1995, before making tracks with Rollo and Faithless.

Her debut album Life For Rent (1999) has sold more than 22m copies worldwide, reaching No.1 in eight countries, including the UK and France, and No.2 on the US Billboard 200.

It featured the single, ‘Thank You’, which was sampled in the worldwide No.1 hit ‘Stan’ by Eminem.

Dido’s second album, Life For Rent, was released in 2003 sold over 12m copies globally. It spawned the worldwide hit and Ivor Novello award-winning single ‘White Flag’.

Her following albums Safe Trip Home (2008) and Girl Who Got Away (2014) featured collaborations with Brian Eno, A.R. Rahman and Kendrick Lamar.

Posted by: Spiceboy 13th May 2018, 09:30 AM

Sloppy article again. So both her first and second albums were called Life For Rent?

Posted by: pippa 14th May 2018, 02:33 PM

I cant see Dido having any huge success when she does release as her singles most likely will be ignored by radio and will achieve minimum streaming.

Dido is likely looking at a 100k selling album.

Posted by: Jüpiter 14th May 2018, 02:59 PM

She could quite well be a big album seller again if she goes in a good direction. The trip hop/lounge influence on her first two made them really versatile, when she went full acoustic that was lessened a bit I've always felt.

I always thought the song was about suicide. The second verse alludes to that in my opinion.

''Wakes me every single night, thinking through the day
Did you stop at any time, have doubts at any stage?
Were you calm or were you numb, or happy just to get it done?

Well I've lived my life without regret, until today''

Beautiful song.

Dido announces new album Still On My Mind and first UK and Ireland tour in 15 years
12 November 2018 | By Rob Copsey

The singer returns with her first album in six years in 2019.

Dido has announced details of her new album and details of her first tour in 15 years.

The London born singer-songwriter will release her fifth album Still On My Mind on March 8 2019. A song from the collection, called Hurricanes, is out to download and stream now.

The record is Dido's first studio album in six years, since 2013's Number 5-peaking Girl Who Got Away. Look back at Dido's complete Official UK Chart history here.

It's been even longer since Dido went out on the road; but she's fixing that with the announcement of her first tour in 15 years. The shows kick off in Prague on May 4 and reaches the UK and Ireland on May 26, taking in Glasgow, Dublin, Manchester and London. Tickets go on sale on November 16.

Dido's first two albums, 1999's No Angel and 2003's Life For Rent, are among the UK's biggest studio albums of all time. No Angel's combined sales stand at 3.09 million, while Life For Rent is on 2.9 million. Check out the UK's biggest studio albums of all time.

Dido's UK and Ireland tour dates
May 26 - Glasgow, Royal Concert Hall
May 27 - Dublin, Olympia Theatre
May 29 - Manchester, Albert Hall
May 30 - London, Roundhouse

so Dido wink.gif
love her, this is pure Dido and she doesn't need collabs with Guetta, Rudimental and CG or songs written by Ed Sheehan like 99% of the female pop singers out there

An interesting song, I think I’m going to love it, certainly need a few more listens though!

Well she did a collab with Armin Van Buuren a few years ago though it wasn't for the purpose of ruling the chart.

I like the new single, it's just so Dido as you said. Wish the tour could come somewhere close to Hong Kong.

I’m in the same boat. Now feeling the need to revisit her earlier material to gear up for this album!

Incidentally yesterday I left work with "White Flag" randomly in my head and then found she had a brand new single later that evening by coincidence.

Another random thought... I wonder how "Walk On Water" by Eminem would’ve sounded with Dido featuring instead. I wonder if they could reunite for a "Stan" quality collab again one day.

Posted by: ___∆___ 17th November 2018, 12:23 AM

Lots of formats (CD, Vinyl, Cassette etc.,) and signed bundles now available from her official store cheer.gif

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 18th November 2018, 04:31 PM

She would need heaps of promotion to be re-introduced to the public.

Posted by: Bjork 19th November 2018, 10:55 AM

don't think her aim is to have a hit single/album

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 19th November 2018, 04:14 PM

No point in putting out the album that the public isn't aware of it... I don't think she's got a name recognition but people need to know that she is releasing an album.

Besides, BMG is good at doing heritage artists, just look at Rick Astley and Kylie.

Posted by: Bjork 19th November 2018, 04:44 PM

Im sure Dido is not interested in playing the big game, its was apparent from album 3 on

Posted by: T Boy 19th November 2018, 05:55 PM

I imagine Dido is so rich that she makes albums for herself and her fans only. All her fans will know she’s releasing.

Posted by: Conderella 29th November 2018, 08:43 AM

Wow, Hurricanes is absolutely amazing. *.*

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 29th November 2018, 02:07 PM

A beautiful but a slightly haunting video...

Posted by: Spiceboy 29th November 2018, 10:29 PM

So I love the bit where the music really goes up in hurricanes, but the parts with her singing are dreadfully dull. It's not White Flag or Life for Rent wub.gif

Posted by: Rosemary 🔪 29th November 2018, 11:18 PM

I'm finding it to be a slow burner, not sure how long I'll be giving it a chance for though. It's pretty atmospheric and it builds -- it just takes a while -- definitely needs repeat listens.

Posted by: slowdown73 4th December 2018, 12:27 AM

Loving ‘hurricane’!

Posted by: Bjork 11th December 2018, 12:49 PM

Dido confirmed that Hurricanes is just a buzz track
and that the lead single is called Give You Up

From the press release:

Give You Up is a delicate ballad about recovering from a lost love affair.

I’m so ready for new Dido music!!

There’s something about her songwriting and the production what just makes me imagine I’ve went through all these things what have never even happened to me laugh.gif

That lead single by the description sounds amazing.

I also appreciate her so much because she takes so long to release so I’m definitely appreciating this as she’ll disappear for 5 years after next year. cry.gif

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 11th December 2018, 03:00 PM

While I know it does not matter chart-wise, I hope "Give you up" would somewhat resemble White Flag.

Posted by: Bjork 15th December 2018, 01:17 PM

press release:

Still On My Mind wafts in like a beautiful breeze, a chilled out tumble of sadness and joy, melancholy and bliss. That familiar voice is fully present, soft, intimate and delightfully conversational, caressing melodies over a subtle flow of beats, with an aching catch that tugs at the heart strings.

She was the girl who got away. But after five years of silence, Dido is back.

Dido Armstrong made two of the best-selling albums in British chart history. No Angel still remains the top-selling debut by a British female artist worldwide. The chilled out singer-songwriter notched up over forty million album sales across her career. “There wasn’t really an intention to walk away from music,” she insists. “I’m not a very intentional person. I've never been good at the big picture. I'm not good at next week, I'm not good at next year. But I'm brilliant at today! I know what I'm enjoying in the moment.”

Dido’s titanic success swept her away. It started when she was a backing singer with her brother Rollo’s band Faithless. She toured in support of their 1996 debut album all the way through to the release of her own debut in 1998. No Angel’s success was slow burning, growing and growing to eventually become the bestselling album of 2001. All that time Dido was on the road, through the phenomenal Life For Rent in 2003, all the way to performing to a TV audience of billions at Live8 in 2005. “I toured for nine years straight. And then I just stopped.” It was time for Dido to catch up with her own life.

Safe Trip Home was released in 2008, with a more acoustic and orchestral ambience. “I love that record. It has stood the test of time for me,” she says. But Dido chose not to go back on tour to promote it. “I was sort of coming down the mountain back home, and it was a real moment of liberation when I realised I could just make music, and the people who want to hear it will find it for themselves.”

She got married in 2008 and a son, Stanley, was born in 2011. Dido went on to release one more album, Girl Who Got Away, in 2013, but once again opted not to take it on the road. “The last album was a bit of a blur. I’d sung all the songs while I was pregnant. It was lovely, and I wanted people to hear it, so eventually I put it out. And then I thought I just wanna hang out with my kid, you know. And that was the only real thought for a long time.”

Dido’s return has been as much of a surprise to her as it will be to her fans. “To be honest, this album was almost accidental. I woke up one morning and thought I just want to work with my brother, Rollo. It’s why I got into this in the first place. We’re great together, I enjoy the company and we are so in sync. And in between having a lovely time hanging out with his family and walking the dogs, talking about music and the world, this album just sort of happened.”

Opening track Hurricanes is a mesmerising evocation of the enduring power of everyday domestic love, artfully blending Dido’s intimate songwriting with a mellifluous torrent of beats. “Because I come from a club background, I find it very inspiring to create an atmosphere and sort of tease a song from it. I spend a huge amount of time messing about, creating backing tracks that conjure up images. It’s like watching a movie in your mind and that becomes a song.” You Don’t Need A God is a gentle anthem to the power of music.

Give You Up is a delicate ballad about recovering from a lost love affair.

A key song, for Dido, was Have To Stay, in which she was able to articulate a mother’s love for her child without over-sentimentalising. “I'm writing in a new way I think. I guess when you have a child you slightly go into another dimension ... from which you might never return.”

For a long time, Dido felt she had nothing more to add to her oeuvre. “What I write about are little moments of conflict, I think. There is always light and dark to it. But when you have a kid there is no conflict, you just love them and want to protect them and hang out with them. And I think that got in the way of writing for a while” Have To Say, though, almost spontaneously emerged from conflicted feelings, thinking about a time when her love for her child would mean one day in the future having to let them go.

The song had a powerful impact on people she played it too. “It’s very funny, everyone who has a kid cries a little. There's been grown men sitting in the room sobbing.” After she wrote it, Dido couldn’t stop writing. “The floodgates opened and it was like everything came back. It stirred up a lot of emotions. I had a lot of things I felt strongly about. I'm really proud of the songs.”

Things have changed for female musicians since Dido first broke through. “It used to be like ‘oh, you're not going to get played on the radio ‘cos there's already two females being played today. I mean I literally heard those words come out of someone's mouth. Now, I think the only thing that matters is if you’ve got a voice that resonates and stirs up emotion. That’s the key. There’s a lot of great singers around now, male and female.” She looks at streaming as a positive development too. “Fans are able to choose what they love and sort of take control in a way, and not just be force fed. I think that's really liberating , it puts the onus on an artist to make every song count, to make it something that people would actually want to listen to.”

With just a hint of trepidation, Dido is even looking forward to touring again. “I love this album. It’s been an absolutely magical experience making it. And I want people to hear it. So I think it’s time to go out there again.” She admits that her “natural environment” is “in the studio writing songs” and “I am a little bit nervous about going on stage again. It’s been 15 years since I played a big show. But I think it will be fun. There’s a lot of songs that people will know and enjoy. I have nothing but great memories of singing Thank You for instance. When you are singing, and everyone is singing along, that is the ultimate feeling in a live show, there is no better thing”.

Still On My Mind is only Dido’s fifth album in 20 years. And it is right up there with her best work. “I wanted to capture the feeling I still get from listening to music,” she explains. “Just that rush, like you just don't need anything more than this. I've lived a life which is just music. I hear melodies in my head. Music is comfort, it is excitement, it's everything, and it is always there for me.”

When I first heard 'Friends' I thought ''well this is pleasant but that's it''. But it's actually really addictive. I always love it when she flirts with dance beats. I wish the instrumental break before the last chorus would be a bit longer.

Give you up leaked, it's everywhere, apparently the label uploaded it to deezer by mistake
it's a slow ballad but doesn't have much of a chorus, bit disappointed
it's out there if you search it on YT for instance

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 18th January 2019, 04:07 PM

Totally love it, though I find it a bit odd that the sad background music mashed with African choral sound.

Uploading it by mistake sounds like what BMG did to Dancing last year when it was "leaked".

Omg Give You Up is fantastic absolutely sublime.

I could easily see it on No Angel or Life For Rent it’s like everything a classic Dido song is yet also sounds contemporary.

Really enjoying this album from what we’ve heard so far heart.gif

I like it and think it’ll grow even more. It’s not going to turn her into a streaming sensation though.

Posted by: Bjork 18th January 2019, 07:43 PM

hopefully it's a grower but was a bit disappointed on 1st listen, much prefer Friends or even Hurricanes

Posted by: Atonement 19th January 2019, 01:55 PM

I don't think I'll grow to like 'Give You Up'.

Posted by: Kippiis 19th January 2019, 02:52 PM

The best album atm.

Posted by: Juan Carlos ⚡️ 20th January 2019, 08:22 PM

"Give You Up" is going to be officially premiered this Tuesday after 8am. GMT on Zoe Ball's BBC Radio 2 show.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 21st January 2019, 04:19 PM

Smart move since the single has already leaked though I am not sure it's the right single to help hype up the album.

Posted by: mdh 25th January 2019, 08:45 AM

"Give You Up" is SO underwhelming. Zzzzz

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 26th January 2019, 11:01 AM

Hopefully the next one will be better.

Posted by: ThePensmith 26th January 2019, 05:55 PM

She was interviewed on Graham Norton's Radio 2 show this morning. 'Give You Up' isn't really clicking with me like 'Hurricanes' did but it's nice to hear her tour's sold out and that she's excited about that. She should hopefully be confident of another top 10 album.

give you up acoustic is much better

With Dido, I pretty much expect a Top 3 album but Give You Up isn't off to a flying start... I mean, I get that Dido is a simple person but after such a long absence, I was hoping something more dancey...

I am still hoping that her tour will stretch beyond Europe and US and come to Australia and Asia but I am not holding my breath on this... wink.gif

loving the acoustic version of Give you Up

Posted by: T Boy 29th January 2019, 07:03 PM

The acoustic version is brilliant!

The track is growing, that’s for sure.

Can we just take a minute to bask in the fact that this woman is supposed to be 47 years old?

Posted by: liamk97 29th January 2019, 07:48 PM

Don't think I've commented on the music yet but I love all three tracks. Hurricanes is really captivating despite very little production, although that makes the eventual climax of the song even more impactful. I love the little flourishes in Friends too, kinda of reminds me of Orbit's work.

Posted by: Bjork 30th January 2019, 10:01 AM

hope they release the video for Give you up soon

Posted by: ThePensmith 30th January 2019, 06:12 PM

OK, I take back what I said about 'Give You Up', the acoustic version has made it click for me. Such a beautiful vocal, quite understated production but it works.

Next track ‘Chances’ is out tomorrow

Posted by: Bjork 21st February 2019, 07:00 PM

actually just figured out she didn't write Give You Up, despite the song being 100% Dido-esque. That's what she answered when asked about the song in an interview for a German magazine.

"There's a story behind it, but it's not mine because I did not write it. This is actually the very first song I did not write myself. I've always been sent songs and I've always wondered why I should sing that song from someone else, because I'm a songwriter. Actually, I should never actually become a singer because I have always been a songwriter. However, it just turned out that in the end I stayed on the record. Anyway, a friend sent me this song and I just thought, "Wow, that's crazy. I wish I had written it. He's so good that I want to take him in. "So I chose him. What I love about the song is that it was written much like my other titles, because the meaning is ambivalent. The message is, that I am over this separation, but also something of not over this separation. I love that ambiguity in the song. At the same time, the song could be a story of each one of us. Who has not ever broken up with someone and felt miserable afterwards? I do not know anybody who has not had to go through this before."

Posted by: Bjork 21st February 2019, 07:05 PM

I also read that she worked again with Rick Nowels on a couple tracks on the new album, that's great news, he's great and always works well with Dido (White Flag, Sand in my Shoes, No Freedom)

Posted by: liamk97 22nd February 2019, 12:18 AM

Another great track! Love those little bleeps that bookend the song.

but still not half bad

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 23rd February 2019, 06:22 AM

Posted by: Bjork 23rd February 2019, 08:12 AM

the last one is definitely the weakest one for me,
even the first lines, seem like a Dido parody song

1. Hurricanes
2. Give You Up
3. Hell After This
4. You Don't Need a God
5. Take You Home
6. Some Kind of Love

Hitmakers: The songwriting secrets behind Dido's Thank You
By James Hanley | February 26th 2019

Thank You featured on the soundtrack to the 1998 flick Sliding Doors prior to being sampled on Eminem’s megahit Stan, finally becoming a smash in its own right in 2001. Here, Dido recalls how it all came to pass...

It was around the time I was having panic attacks and my friend Paulie – Paul Herman – who’s fantastic and is still a mate now, came round to cheer me up. We were singing and playing, and we started doing that song [Thank You].

Later on that evening I was in the bath and I was writing down lyrics on this little bit of paper, which I’ve still got. All of my songs have light and dark, that’s sort of the point – they’re never out and out happy or out and out sad – so I made the verses about a not so great day.

I wrote it so quickly, in about five minutes. I had so much to say musically and there is nothing better than when a song isn’t there in the morning and then is there in the afternoon. It’s hard to explain, but it was really fun to sing so we recorded it and put it down as a demo.

Whenever I sing my songs it always takes me back to the room that I wrote them in. Thank You was written in my basement flat along with Slide, Here With Me and all those songs [from debut album No Angel] and I remember the room had green stripy wallpaper. It’s funny, it’s etched into my brain because I basically would just stare at this wallpaper and write.

Thank You was on a cassette that went around a few people and I think that’s how [then Arista Records president] Clive Davis heard it. Back in those days people just passed stuff to each other, you had a cassette and people would go, ‘Listen to this’, so you never knew who was listening to your music.

I remember being in Tesco in Hammersmith – this is well before No Angel came out – and I got a call saying Thank You was going to be used in a film called Sliding Doors. They were like, ‘Is that OK?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah cool, that’s fine. I’ve never had a song be used in a film. How did they even hear it?’ So somebody had obviously passed it on. Anyway, it gets used in Sliding Doors, I go to the cinema with my mates and we were like, ‘Oh my God, I can’t believe my song is in here!’

But then the story of how Stan came about is that Mark [James, producer] The 45 King, who did songs like Jay-Z’s Hard Knock Life and a load of other great hip-hop tracks, happened to be watching TV while he was doing his accounts one day and the Sliding Doors advert kept playing. He sampled it off the advert for the movie and sent it to Eminem for the backing track, who then listened to it in his car.

What I love about that song is that it literally goes on a little journey. The beauty of putting music out is that once you’ve done your thing, you don’t know what’s going to happen after that and then it comes back to you with a different story.

Here With Me was the first single, that was the one they were working on at radio for a really long time, and then Thank You was the second.

That song is magic. It’s lovely to perform live, it resonates nicely at shows and always turns into a big singalong. There’s just a lightness to it. I sang it at a mate’s wedding and I’ve had so many letters from people who it has meant something to, it’s amazing when you hear those stories.

I am officially in love with "Still on my mind", can't wait for the album!!

Posted by: ___∆___ 5th March 2019, 09:30 AM

She’s on Sunday Brunch this weekend - should give the album a boost and whatever she performs will likely go Top 40 on iTunes.

Posted by: T’Seet 5th March 2019, 10:31 PM

I’m so pumped she’s doing lots of promo. Can’t believe I’ll have the album on Friday, and a signed one at that.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 6th March 2019, 04:46 AM

In terms of promo, since I don't live in England, I feel that she hasn't promoted as much for her lead single? And I am talking about the lead single in particular.

The album should go to Top 5.

She’s throwing the promo into the album. She knows she can’t shift singles.

She’s just much more present than she was in the last two eras.

The album is OUT! Can't wait to hear it when I have the time.

She's performing on Jonathan Ross tomorrow night. She's on Zoe Ball's breakfast show on Radio 2 this morning and is on The One Show at some point next week. Looking forward to hearing the album now!

I love Thank You so much. Such a relatable and chilled song and she sounds beautiful on it.

I love it too. I can easily say I much prefer it to 'White Flag' tbh (which I do like, but yeah), it's probably my favourite of the big singles. No Angel is my favourite Dido album.

I'm excited to sit down for 45 minutes to listen to the new one soon.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 8th March 2019, 12:43 PM

Cannot wait to hear this later today wub.gif

I’ve deliberately not listened to anything aside from Give You Up, Friends and Hurricanes so that I had more to look forward to on the day of release.

She’s #2 on iTunes Album Chart only behind Sigrid who’s another new release.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 8th March 2019, 02:21 PM

Have to Stay as album closer is stunning such a lovely song and a sweet tribute to her son.

Hell After This, You Don’t Need A God and Take You Home are the holy trinity.

Gonna listen again tonight but I love it. There’s no bad tracks and it’s been worth the long wait!

Really hope this at least goes top ten.

She’s now #1 on iTunes UK!

Posted by: pippa 8th March 2019, 03:24 PM

Dido will easily chart Top 5.
I would be shocked to see the album debut any lower.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 8th March 2019, 03:25 PM

According to her facebook page, her album is No.1 on iTunes in two dozens countries.

Posted by: pippa 8th March 2019, 04:04 PM

iTunes sales don't count for too much but it is a positive indication.
Dido will be heavily a physical seller.

This album is nothing short of beautiful. Gorgeous. She sounds so engaged with her music right now. Coupled with the fact she’s done so much promo and has been active on Twitter, it really feels like she’s enjoying having a music career, which I can’t say was true of the last couple of albums.

And then there’s this:

Posted by: Jordan Lee 9th March 2019, 01:45 AM

#34 on Apple Music albums streaming.

Actually higher than I imagined tongue.gif

I loved that tweet when I seen that as well! Lovely to see her active on socials and so looking forward to her being on TV this weekend on two occasions.

Really loving Hell After This wub.gif

Gosh was listening to Have to Stay and it's just made me well up, such a simple message but it relates so much to how I felt over the Winter and how much support Mr D* gave me cry.gif

This album is truly sublime. It has certainly made the 6 year wait worth it.

I just love this woman completely.

Posted by: dandy* 9th March 2019, 03:52 PM

I really like about half of this album... the rest is perfectly passable but not quite as good. It prompted me to look at her previous album as I ignored it at the time and there's some great tracks on there too - Blackbird, End of Night, Let Us Move On, Loveless Hearts all sounds really good on first run through!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 9th March 2019, 04:12 PM

It’s climbed to number 21 now on Apple Music Streaming in the UK from number 34 yesterday.

And some of the albums above are pre orders too!

Yasss 'Girl Who Got Away' is a lovely album. 'Day Before We Went to War' and 'Go Dreaming' were also highlights for me.

Not really convinced on the new album yet. 'Hell After This' is a highlight though.

She’s performing ‘Give You Up’ on Sunday Brunch today and it’s currently #26 on iTunes - acts that perform usually get a very decent boost from the show so expecting it to be Top 15 at least afterwards and I think the album will really benefit, I can imagine people that watch SB would be interested in Dido.

Posted by: T’Seet 10th March 2019, 10:54 AM

Just watched her interview on Sunday Brunch, she really is a lovely and down to Earth person. She seemed very natural considering she’s shunned the spotlight for over a decade. I loved how they commented on her doing more promo and her saying she was really enjoying it because it’s what I’ve been feeling throughout the whole campaign so far.

I really am in love with the album. There isn’t a track I dislike. Hurricanes, Hell After this and Take You Home are my favourites so far but Give You Up has also really grown on me.

Posted by: Bjork 10th March 2019, 11:06 AM

on first listen Take me Home is the one track that Impressed me the most

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 10th March 2019, 11:38 AM

I think "Take you home" should be single, they should focus on pushing it before the tour starts.

Hopefully she will tour Asia later this year, though I don't see it happening. sad.gif

Posted by: T’Seet 10th March 2019, 11:46 AM

Listening again, the title track is also a masterpiece.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 10th March 2019, 12:06 PM

Heard the album several times, there isn't a track I don't like. You Don't Need a God was a bit underwhelming and Friends and Chances are a bit meh but that's ok.

Some Kind of Love is sublime. wub.gif

#3 on Mondays midweek update.

Foals and Sigrid are 1 and 2.

She’s 136 copies behind number two and 2,000 behind number one so relatively close.

I can see her finishing at 5. She deserves no.1 but it won’t happen.

It would be good if the album can have at least a semi decent chart run.

I am kinda expecting a massive fall next week... depending if they can keep up the hype. wink.gif

Posted by: Jordan Lee 12th March 2019, 02:12 AM

I think it’ll be somewhere between 15-30 next week

I don’t think it’s gonna drop out the top 40 but might possibly fall out the top 20.

Posted by: T’Seet 12th March 2019, 05:43 PM

Big falls are commonplace these days in week 2. Even a currently popular act like the 1975 can suffer.

Posted by: Bjork 12th March 2019, 07:57 PM

I'd say let's focus on week 1 for now, hate it when week 1 is not even over and people are already complaining about a possible big drop in week 2 :/

thats how the chart is these days, only acts that do well on Spotify can cushion week 2, a big fall in week 2 is the new normal

I think it's a good review and score

Debuts at #3 in the UK album charts.

So that’s all 5 of her albums peaking within the top 5 wub.gif wub.gif

Dave was #1 and Foals #2.

#3 isn't too bad, wish she was No.1 though.

It hasn’t been top 100 since 2014

19,874 sales for Still On My Mind this week.

Dave I can understand because of his streaming advantage and the social media pushes he was giving it but I would never have seen Foals 7k ahead of Dido from the midweeks! Actually pretty impressive that Foals managed to do that well.

This album continues to grow on me - though I can't help but feel it's lacking something. Paid more attention to the last track this time and it is lovely isn't it.

Posted by: sajjadali 15th March 2019, 08:12 PM

20k sales is great. Would have loved a No.1 but a tough week to be fair. No.1 and No.2 Dave and Foals got so ahead of her in the end...I'm shocked. About 1k less and she may have even missed the top 5 with Tom Walker and Sigrid just close behind her. So we should be happy with No.3!

Posted by: Jordan Lee 17th March 2019, 02:45 AM

#5 on Amazon (and Jacks album has two versions ahead of her) and #3 on iTunes.

Looking like it’s not gonna drop too much this week then? cheer.gif

How is she holding up on streaming?

Posted by: T’Seet 17th March 2019, 09:59 AM

It would be fantastic to see her remain top 10. It would actually signal that more than her fans are here for her this time.

Her last studio albums went 2-18 (STH) and 5-12 (GWGA) so staying top 10 with this one would be amazing.

Posted by: Steve201 17th March 2019, 10:02 AM

even if she did 3-45, that would be ok, it's the new normal for non-spotify-friendly artists

Dave and Foals ended up ahead cos there's always streaming data in the mids, most of album streams are added at the very end

Not bad for US but rather disappointing for Australia

Posted by: Bjork 20th March 2019, 09:41 AM

really? why should she be higher in AU?

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 20th March 2019, 02:32 PM

Because I thought Australia would be more receptive to her?

Here's my review:

Hurricanes - 8/10 (beautiful tri-hop track about resilience in the face of chaos, immediately recaps my interest in Dido.)
Give you up - 7/10 (It's good enough but it's still underwhelming to an extent, the video is nice though).
Hell After This - 8/10 (The musical style is rather new from Dido and it works totally!)
You Don't Need a God - 8/10 (A nice and gentle RnB influenced track, love the soaring vocal during the chorus)
Take You Home - 10/10 (my favourite on the album so far, I would love to see Dido doing more of this, such as working with DJs specializing in chill-house wub.gif )
Some Kind of Love - 10/10 (Masterpiece, the bridge is fantastic!)
Still on my mind - 9/10 (Another favourite from the album, there's just something about this song that got me hooked to it).
Mad Love - 7/10 (Not my favourite and I don't consider it to be the best on the album)
Walking By - 9/10 (It is a grower and the chorus plays a big part to help me like the song)
Friends - 8/10 (A funky number, love it)
Chances - 7/10 (A bit of a filler)
Have to Stay - 10/10 (A beautiful portrait of parenthood. When it comes to depicting real life, Dido is like a realist artist but just more aesthetically)

So what's the mid-week position for the album on Thursday?

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd March 2019, 05:10 PM

It’s #9 this week.

So glad she managed a second week inside the top ten it’s her first album since Life For Rent to get a second week top ten.

Twenty years into her career and she’s doing THAT.

I feel like this album is gonna spend more weeks on the top 100 albums than what her previous two did smile.gif

Posted by: T’Seet 23rd March 2019, 09:06 AM

So pleased she got that second top 10. I hope she is a more consistent seller rather than dropping straight out.

Posted by: Better Man 23rd March 2019, 02:06 PM

Hey folks, just listened to the whole album.
It's is a real masterpiece and LP is full of singles (80% of songs).

What's wrong with charts??!!

For me the album will be a pretender for Top-3 best albums 2019 by December.

Really pity... But thanks to Dido for that strong and emotional album, it's more important!

Posted by: Bjork 23rd March 2019, 03:02 PM

what happens is that now streaming rules the charts, not CDs anymore, so the kids dictate the charts (sadly)

Posted by: T’Seet 23rd March 2019, 04:45 PM

Couldn’t help myself, picked up the pink vinyl today. Can’t get enough of this album!

Posted by: dandy* 23rd March 2019, 04:53 PM

I'm still really enjoying it too, it's just so nice and chilled and the little things she just does with her vocal delivery to make tracks more interesting. It's like a warm hug from the past but still has little flourishes that weren't there before to keep it sounding more fresh.

I think this has actually done remarkably well for her, to be fair. I can't see how anyone would be disappointed with how it's performed.

Posted by: T’Seet 25th March 2019, 05:58 PM

12 in the current set of midweeks! It seems to be holding up quite well!

Posted by: pippa 25th March 2019, 06:58 PM

That is a good result.
Many, (me included) expected the album to fall much sharper than it has.

Posted by: ThePensmith 26th March 2019, 09:12 PM

Finally got my review up on my blog: https://wp.me/p4UO9N-1ty

Definitely one of her best albums for me, pleased to see it's held up so well.

Posted by: Spiceboy 27th March 2019, 12:18 AM

I'm really pleased with her chart run, expected it to chart top 10 then fall to like 76 or something then out... I've still not picked up my copy yet will be doing so though when have a bit of spare cash it's a lovely album.

Posted by: Bjork 27th March 2019, 07:41 AM

as a whole, it might be her best album, sure a million times better than the last 2 studio albums, which barely had 2/3 good songs per album

it's difficult to compare with the first 2, both had big big songs but also lots of filler and meh songs, so as a whole, this one might be her best even if it doesn't have a White Flag or a Thank You, sure the most cohesive and one that you can play from start to finish without skipping songs

Posted by: T’Seet 30th March 2019, 11:45 AM

She finished at 12 this week. I know the sales won’t be high due to the climate but I’d love to see this album hang around longer than her last 2. Hopefully people won’t continue to quickly dismiss Dido.

Posted by: PeteFromLeeds 30th March 2019, 02:05 PM

Haven't commented in here but this album has some really good songs on it, particularly Hurricanes and Give You Up wub.gif As someone who hasn't really interacted with Dido that much beforehand I'm now quite the fan!

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 30th March 2019, 02:46 PM

Currently #11 in first midweeks today. Who'd have predicted this when it was released? Well deserved really.

Posted by: T’Seet 1st April 2019, 05:12 PM

I’m so pleased!

I hope it keeps going into next week so that Sammy01 can’t just say it’s because of mother’s day.

I hope so!

Is the album selling well now purely off word of mouth?

Her big fans would’ve bought it in week one and I haven’t seen her on TV since the week it was released when she done several performances.

It’s a huge long shot but with BGT coming up soon just imagine if she were to get a slot on one of the semi finals!

"Take You Home" single edit out today. Good choice biggrin.gif

16 this week! It’d be great to see the album stay top 20 for a fifth week but I feel it will fall short.

The single edit is slightly funkier than the original version.

No.16 is a decent result, I think it will fall to around No.25 next week.

#28 this week

Take you home is currently being filmed a video, so I think it will be out soon.

Dido has sold much better than i expected. I'm not sure it's the right 2nd single choice i wanted either Mad Love, Chances or Friends... but i get this choice being for summer etc.

no no those you list are like the 3 weakest album tracks, totally filler

Take you Home is the perfect choice for next single

But nice mix of old stuff and the new album.

White Flag is the perfect closer heart.gif

I saw Dido live this day last week and it was really fantastic! This was almost the setlist - she didn't do 'Chances'! Everything else is the same, and in that order.

A couple of people kept shouting for her to play 'Don't Leave Home' lmao. She didn't.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 4th June 2019, 06:35 AM

From where I sit, 21 songs aren't quite enough especially from an artist who hadn't toured in the previous 15 years...

Posted by: Bjork 4th June 2019, 06:58 AM

lol what kinda tours do you go to? 21 in more than enough, it's Dido not Bruce Springsteen

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 4th June 2019, 09:48 AM

Kylie could do 27-30 songs in her tour so Dido could well do 25 songs too.

Think about how vast Kylie's discography is compared to Dido's.

I think 21 is a more than reasonable amount for a Dido gig, even if she has missed off my favourite song.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 4th June 2019, 10:06 AM

I can think of a couple of songs that she could do (or I want her to do):

Let us move on (truly one of my Top 5 Dido's song, and still I have no idea how her record company could promote it as a "buzz" track. Out of all songs from Girl who got away, this one has the most chart potential)
Don't Leave Home (as mentioned)
See the sun (another one of my favourites from her)
Northern Sky
If I Rise (Hello, her academy-nominated song??)

Posted by: Mattias 4th June 2019, 12:30 PM

I thought the gig was a great length! With its *20 songs, not 21 biggrin.gif I think most gigs I've been to have had less songs.

Posted by: Bjork 4th June 2019, 05:37 PM

I would be ok with 12 -15 songs, but I got the feeling im into another kind of artists/touring

Posted by: T Boy 22nd June 2019, 09:30 AM

Nice to see this re enter the top 100 this week. It may be the lower reaches but at least it’s still selling.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 22nd June 2019, 03:17 PM

I noticed that too!

Was pleased to see that.

With 13 weeks (so far) in the top 100.

It’s now spent more weeks in the top 100 than both Safe Trip Home (which had 10 weeks top 100) and Girl Who Got Away (which had 12).

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 23rd June 2019, 11:39 AM

Nice, though I doubt the album will have any impact on the chart in the future.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 23rd June 2019, 12:33 PM

I think it will get a few more weeks between 75-100.

Hopefully we get some promo on TV when the tour goes to the UK.

Posted by: T Boy 23rd June 2019, 12:48 PM

The album has already outdone expectations.

Posted by: Red Blooded Man 28th June 2019, 04:43 PM

I don't know why they bother but they officially made "Friends" the third single.

Posted by: dandy* 29th June 2019, 04:48 PM

Friends Video:

Has this been certified yet? It's hung around the chart for longer than i expected.

Posted by: Bjork 24th July 2019, 08:16 AM

last I saw she was on 50K... think it could be on 60K soon but not yet

not sure why they picked Friends, not my favourite, theres much better on the album

Posted by: Feel_The_Fever 24th July 2019, 09:37 AM

Album is close enough to silver as far as I know but it will get there.

Posted by: Bjork 24th July 2019, 10:00 AM

just double-checked and last I saw the album was on
Still on my mind [54k]

so nearly there

Posted by: T Boy 24th July 2019, 11:03 AM

I love Friends. Such a shame she can’t get hits anymore.

Posted by: Medellíam 24th July 2019, 04:17 PM

Chart Run: 3-9-12-16-28-48-74-73-76-77-90-88-135-164-94-X

Sales: 53,140 (w/e 27th June)

Hopefully 'Friends' can get the album back in the chart and push it passed Silver. Another great single choice - one I really liked straight from release. I agree it's a shame she can't get chart hits anymore and it's particularly annoying when songs like 'Friends' and 'Take Me Home' would be playlisted by Radio 1 if they added songs on merit rather than who the artist is.

Posted by: Bjork 24th July 2019, 05:14 PM

just seen on twitter that Friends has been added to R2's playlist (B list)

Posted by: Spiceboy 24th July 2019, 08:57 PM

Good for Dido!

Posted by: sajjadali 25th July 2019, 02:27 AM

Not bad sales given the sales climate. I would have gone with 'Mad Love' tho

Posted by: T Boy 2nd August 2019, 12:00 PM

The single mix of Take You Home was played in the background of EastEnders last night and it reminded me of what a great tune it it! Absolutely perfect for the current music scene, if only she would actually get pushed by radio.

Posted by: Medellíam 2nd August 2019, 12:36 PM

Agreed! 'Take Me Home' would sound so at home on Radio 1 yet it's still true to who Dido is as an artist.

Posted by: T Boy 14th August 2019, 11:19 AM

I know it means absolutely nothing these days, but Friends has impacted a little on iTunes thanks to a Radio 2 A listing. Hopefully the album can keep ticking away.

Posted by: pippa 14th August 2019, 01:18 PM

It should help the album achieve some sales and possibly a return to the Top 100 and in the process bring it a step closer to Silver Status.

That was a single though, wasn’t it? I’m amazed that it even had a physical copy in that case.

It’s definitely an issue that’s lead me to losing my enjoyment in the charts. A good chunk of the official albums top 100 probably aren’t being purchased that much anymore but the same people are streaming them or tracks from them every week and they clog up the chart.

Poor Dido just won’t ever be streamed by the masses.

They need to change the way streams are counted for albums as I feel like
It’s unlikely albums what are so high are being streamed as whole albums and it’s more just due to singles or playlisting on tracks.

I’ll be getting this.

Hope this pushes the album to gold.

I presume we might get promo!! Please please please do Strictly on re release week!

Usually I don't like artists re-issuing an album released just a few months ago, but I'd make an exception for Dido in this case. tongue.gif

Posted by: Bjork 2nd October 2019, 04:08 PM

oh I wasn't expecting that!
single is very upbeat, sounding good on 1st listen

Posted by: T Boy 2nd October 2019, 05:19 PM

Definitely up for more Dido!

I’m never a fan of reissues and have never bought the same album twice on CD but I actually think I will this time. I’ve already bought it once on CD and once on vinyl so it can’t hurt to get it for the extra tracks.

Posted by: Bjork 3rd October 2019, 08:27 AM

after listening to the new song a few times, not super liking it, there were better tracks on the regular album

Posted by: Mattias 3rd October 2019, 08:48 AM

'Just Because' was a nice surprise, it feels a little too short but I like the uplifting feel both lyrically and sonically and the message of the song feels important. "Just because everybody does it doesn't mean we need to" / "You don't need to see it all"

Posted by: lewistgreen 9th October 2019, 09:45 AM

It’s being expanded to 2 discs, the second disc comprises of

1. Just Because
2. This Is Love
3. What Am I Doing Here
4. Hurricanes (Live Acoustic)
5. Thank You (Live Acoustic)
6. White Flag (Live Acoustic)
7. Give You Up (Mark Knight Remix)
8. Take You Home (Undercat Remix)

Posted by: pippa 9th October 2019, 02:27 PM

It is welcoming that the effort is going into making the album as successful as they can make it.
This should help the album make a return to the Top 75.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 17th November 2019, 07:12 PM

I hope it can at least go top 40. It’s #64 on iTunes. Guessing that it could sell more physicals though.

I hope we can get some promo though. I wonder if she’ll do something like Michael McIntyre, Royal Variety or Strictly. Praying for a Strictly slot tbh.

It may sneak a place Top 100.

Posted by: Jordan Lee 19th November 2019, 12:03 AM

I expected the re release could at least push 2k sales or so.

Dido needs to promote the album.
Has the album made silver status yet?
At the least, it must be very close.

yes, it was certified Silver last month

I haven’t seen anything about the re-issue apart from a few social media posts - hardly seems worth releasing it if there is going to be zero promotion.

Apart from on this forum, i would have knew nothing of the re-release.

Sadly the reissue did nothing and failed to dent the UK top 100 :/

Really disappointed a re-issue was not enough to return the album to the Top 100.

Not fond of any of the new tracks on the deluxe edition, prefer the album in its original form.

Just Because is very much a grower, I love it now.

2017 really tuff time for her.

deluxe edition tracks are really fine!

But the remix of Take You Home made by Undercatt is real stand-out!

Good to see it made top 100 of 2019 in UK.
