Two more songs with un-copyrighted names. This time Rihanna releases one of her most heartfelt ballads with the same name as the second single from Madonna's 'Bedtime Stories' album. It was a big commercial success (#1 in the US) and showed that Madonna still had a gracious and tender side after the Erotica era before it. Rihanna's single was also a success, peaking at #1 again but which curtain closer do you prefer? Vote for your favourite one in the poll and comment in the thread below! Also discuss any other favourite songs or lyrics that relate to these.

Madonna's trumps Rihanna's by about 1,000 times. Easily.

Rihanna's without a doubt! Madonna's Take a Bow has never been one of her better tracks for me, although I do enjoy it but the Rihanna track is gorgeous and always been in her top 3 for me so there's no competition here really.

Actually I quite like Leona's too, even if it does rip off 'Cry Me a River'. Still Madonna > Rihanna > Leona for me though.
Rihanna's song seems to get a lot of hate but I think it's beautiful. Really lovely moment on the end of Good Girl Goes Bad; one of the first songs that made me sit up and appreciate Rihanna as more than just great club bangers. Still, it has to be Madonna's for me. It holds some of her best lyrics; the melody is so dreamy and seductive and intimate; the theatrical nature of the Shakespeare reference, the poetic lines, the monologue delivery. Fast become one of my favourite Madonna songs as I've grown older. |

I've voted for Madonna's but only just. It's a wonderful song, with beautiful melodies and sensual vocals. Rihanna's is very good too, I just find the production a little weak and it's not as lasting. Madonna's sounds timeless (and indeed it's stood the test of time incredibly well).
Both are very good but yeah just voting for M's narrowly! |

Quite surprised at how close this is. I thought there was a lot of vocal Rihanna 'Take a Bow' haters whereas I've not heard anything worse for Madonna's than finding it a bit boring.

Madonna's easily. Rihanna's was cute though, she tried.
