Welcome to Round 9 of Madonna's GHV2 survivor polls and finishing in 8th place, at the somewhat half-way point is 'Secret', which received 6 votes, meaning we say goodbye to the last of the 'Bedtime Stories' era singles and leaving 7 left in the running. It was yet again a very close battle with 'Deeper and Deeper' picking up 5 votes, after flying under the radar in the previous round, it seems that all the haters came back with force, could this mean its in trouble next, who knows... 'Drowned World', gained 2 votes, and finally the last 2 songs to pick up votes are 'Music', for the first time since round 3, and 'Ray of Light' also got a vote for the first time in quite a while (round 4). 'Frozen', [i]'The Power of Good-Bye' & 'Don't Tell Me' are the only ones that haven't received any votes at all in every round so far, could all that change with this round, stay tuned to find out.

Secret - Released in September 1994 as the lead single from her 6th studio album 'Bedtime Stories' and marked a departure from Madonna's previous musical style since up to that point in her career, her music had mostly been big-sounding dance tracks and melodic ballads. "Secret" combined the pop and R&B genres with instrumentation from an acoustic guitar, drums and strings, while lyrically talking about a lover having a secret. The song received a positive critical reception and became a commercial success by reaching #3 in the U.S.A. and was certified gold. In the United Kingdom, it reached a peak of number five, becoming her record-breaking 35th consecutive top-ten single on the UK Singles Chart. Elsewhere, it reached number one in Canada, Finland and Switzerland, and the top five in Australia, Denmark, France, Italy, New Zealand and Spain.

Madonna well and truly reemerged from the funk and backlash of her 'Sex' book and 'Erotica's' mixed success with "Secret", which is perhaps the single most naked performance of the artist’s career. Acoustic guitars, expertly sweetened vocals and producer Dallas Austin’s signature R&B beats soulfully transport the listener into Madonna’s troubled yet balmy world. It was an interesting and most soulful experience of Madonna's long career, and the more calm approach would be a lot more redefined with her next album, with this perfectly setting things neatly in place for what's to come next.
