I thought as the virus death rate continued to rise his time was shortening in office but saw a ch4 news article showing how old industrial areas are seeing a revival.

I think this is very very mean of Trump.

Republican presidents have done it for Democratic presidents, and vice versa — even when one of them ascended to the White House by defeating or sharply criticizing the other. Can Biden not sabotage his chances of winning the presidency for like, FIVE SECONDS? This is the problem with the way the Dem nomination shaking out the way it did, there's so many groups who have no choice but to vote for him, and he is under such little incentive to offer them anything. |

I mean I don't get why a POC/Minority would vote for Trump but anyone from these groups who would've considered NOT voting for Biden isn't going to be impressed by this, it's very condescending. It's a bit like when some guy from Labour said on Question Time a while back that minorities should naturally vote Labour, there are other progressive parties like the Greens/Lib Dems/SNP/Plaid and Labour don't own us. Biden is such an uninspiring and unimpressive candidate though, I can't blame the people who hate Trump and say they still won't vote for him. I pray not, but Biden (who of course is the better of the two by a long way despite his flaws) I just can't see beating him. There's a part of me that worries that other left wingers who are anti-Trump but anti-Biden as well, many of whom have actually said they won't vote for Biden might actually tip the difference in a few swing states.

Surely with Biden, the really important factor is who he selects as VP. Given his age, you would suspect he will only run for 1 term.. I agree he is a bit uninspiring, but it seems his team (at this stage at least) have probably noted where Hilary Clinton went wrong.

I'm of the opinion that if Hilary couldn't do it Biden can't! It'll be outside factors like the economy/riots/Covid that will affect the result now!

At this point the truth is for Americans that nothing will change with Trump, and little will change with Biden, so go for the latter. The thing is, Biden's team may be pretty good, and they seem to be doing decently out of those riots, but even with that slam dunk they end up letting some shit like 'you should shoot protesters in the leg' through because Biden is a senile dolt. And should he get into office they need to supplement his outdated views with a team that will face and make actual changes or he/his VP will just lose it to the next Republican monster in 4 years.
There are plenty of strong VP candidates, I hope they pick a progressive because Biden himself already well covers the older swing conservatives, those that had any chance of coming over. |

I can't see Trump winning the election now. The Coronavirus death numbers plus the heavy handed response to the protests is too big a hurdle for him to overcome I would have thought.

Couple of other national polls released today
Fox News Biden 48 Trump 40 CBS News Biden 47 Trump 43 He maintains his average lead of +6. I would be a bit concerned given the terrible 10 day news Trump has had he doesn't grow that lead as no matter how bad the news cycle gets he can't go much beyond +6. Which means if Biden gets a bad news cycle, we're in the margin of error terrority where Clinton was. Trump's base might be small and shrinking but its bloody resiliant if anything. |

From what I'm reading the US press, his best chance is still with the economy but now also with no second Covid wave and no daft Tweets in the last few weeks of the election. The first two may be out of his hands but the last is up to him. He'll have his core voters but he needs floating voters. Trump's expected to be down on 2016 with women and Independants and maybe the ethnic vote too after the protests. It's not looking good for him right now but still 5 months to go. Biden's choice for VP is really important too now. He needs to pick up a lot of the black vote that Trump may lose after these protests. |
