I'd take it with a massive grain of salt, because to me it sounds like whoever wrote the article has stitched together their own narrative. Plus...why would she be releasing an album while she's touring Brightest Blue?

was reading now the story of Lights in the US and it's kinda crazy
it debuted in the top 100 for 1 week in August 2011, then returned to the top 100 in January 2012
and climbed and climbed and it took the song 29 weeks (> 6 months) to make the top 5, eventually peaking at #2 for two weeks
By which point they were probably preparing to launch 'Anything Could Happen'.
but in the first half of 2012 they could have re-released Lights in the UK, at least try...

I do think Lights is a well known song in the UK still. However what does baffle me is that she never gets recognised for her success overseas in the UK. I feel like at this point she is now more popular overseas than she is here.

I can't countenance the idea that 'Burn', 'Anything Could Happen' and 'On My Mind' at least were bigger hits in the US than in the UK.
Radio in the US also collectively eat every single song she does up. I do just feel like her international success is never celebrated. Bare in mind she was getting success in the US in a period where very little British artists were.

Unless Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 was really just that forgettable (but even so, it produced a top 10 and another top 20, so Calvin is far from done commercially even with that era getting pretty meh reception)

Everything around this era has set the Eurovision rumours though. Even up to the release of the Calvin song & the latest rumour of there being a delay over a sample clearance & theres some issues with Eurovision & samples apparently.

This particular era seemed set in stone. None of the singles were hits and yet they seemed to proceed forward with the release date. She announced 2 shows at Koko alongside it's release. The album has been pressed on vinyl and CD and then suddenly the release date is changed about 2 weeks before because of "exciting opportunities".
Were then told she's doing a Calvin track, which will only make the virtual copy, which could have just been held off for a re-release 2 months down the line.
It's incredibly odd for an artist who seemed to be having no commercial success and her label seemed to accept that to suddenly change plans 2 months before.
All this, alongside the fact her management team are the ones booking the UK entry to Eurovision.
Even now, the Calvin song has been delayed due to a sample clearance and the BBC have a strict no-sample policy for Eurovision.
In retrospect, the Koko show was great and it is rather unusual for a star of Ellie's ilk to debut mainly new music a month ahead of release but it was great.
Miracles is labelled Ellie Goulding & Calvin Harris. And is being premiered on the one show March 9th with Tap Management also attending.
That's our Eurovision song! They're going all out this year, with Calvin and a famous name, to capitalise on, through a miracle, the UK coming second. People thought they would never, ever see the Eurovision in the UK again, or for the UK to come top 5 ever again, let alone 2nd!

I could easily see Ellie doing it with one of the songs from her new album what I can’t see is Calvin Harris being involved. I would love to be wrong though as I would love to see two quite big artists representing the UK with a massive hit that this is likely to be. It would be such a moment and a turnaround from the likes Electro Velvet and Michael Rice. I still think Rina Sawayama is the most likely at the moment though.

Album pushed back to April 7th! I do think this Calvin song is going to be an absolutely gigantic so I do see why they have pushed it back.

Oh my Ellie! Kinda useless to pushed the album when the physicals won't have the collaboration and even if the song is massive and added to the stream version of the album, the 2 highest tracks are neutralised so won't count for album streams/sales either.

By The End Of The Night is out next Wednesday. It sounds like another great song. This album is shaping up to be really good!
The choice of the new single is quite surprising looking at the views from her KOKO performance. (I'm talking about this one account that was recording from the balcony, she posted most of the songs after the concert). However, 'By The End Of The Night' is much more friendly and easier to listen by a generic audience than 'Higher Than Heaven' or 'Better Man' so I kind of get it...

I Need Your Love has one of the most tone deaf track placements of all time with it being shoved at the end of Halcyon.

By The End of The Night after a few listens is clearly my favourite from this album so far and even prefer it to miracles. Sounds very radio friendly. Apart from Love I'm Given if she had returned with these songs on Brightest Blue she would be in a much different position now.

It's working from a publicity point of view too because I've seen the quote all over my feed, from just news outlets reporting on it to memes mimicking the famous Fake Showbiz News tweets about Ellie that always go viral. It's probably better publicity than what she'd get if she'd made out it was more personal than it actually is!

The title track is simply divine. It's my favourite from all the tracks that have been released so far.
So pleased with the music and response/success this era - never thought Ellie would trouble the #1 spot again and the fact she could achieve the double next week is incredible.
I think somewhere between 10-15k. Have a feeling she will be a bit of a smaller Miley type success with the big single but album not selling as huge off the back of it. Fingers crossed for her she does the #1.

It’s pretty middle of the road for me on first listen, some real good songs but then some that just seem to blend into others.
Lights remains her best for me.
I know having Miracle or not wouldn't make an abysmal difference since the track is neutralised for counting album streams
but still fans of the song might see it as part of an album and further investigate
and its not like the label cares about the album being cohesive since they already added the Sigala useless atrocity
This is a really solid album. Midnight Dreams, Higher Than Heaven, How Long and Temptation are my faves outside of the singles.
All of the delays has seemed to have worked out as the #1 is looking promising!

Well heard the first 11 tracks in full and it’s pretty solid album. It’s up there with delirium as my favourite and miles better than her last album.
I quite like seeing the refreshing kinds of promotion and interviews she’s done for this so far.
In todays world we often hear how every album an artist releases is “the most personal one yet” and how the recording was this and this and you hear the music and you think really so to her her say it’s the least personal yet feels very accurate and true.
I like the album for what it is. Escapism pop done well but it’s pretty strong as a whole piece, flows nicely and feels cohesive.
Should be a safe #1 for her so the pushbacks seemed to have worked in her favour! If she makes it to #1 will she tie Adele as the female BRIT with the most #1 albums?

Both her album and single sales this week are relatively low for a number one but this is still an achievement. Ellie has clearly passed her peak and the album might struggle to silver status.

I'll always defend that a condensed Delirium would be so good (and most of the songs come from the standard album, to its credit). 16 tracks including deluxe is more than enough!
Woah I didn't realise until now that the album did this poorly in the US:
She has really struggled this era outside of the UK 
Aside from the UK it only went Top 10 in 1 country (Belgium) and Top 20 in 1 country (Germany).
In the US she was a fairly big name up until just a few years ago, I know her stock has fallen drastically but I thought she'd have enough power to get more than #125!
Higher than heaven is her best album in my view.
