BuzzJack Music Forum _ Pop _ Ellie Goulding - Higher Than Heaven

Posted by: Juan Carlos Apr 19 2021, 11:53 AM

New album tentatively out this year, in the same vein as Delirium.

QUOTE
Brand new music is tentatively scheduled for later this year, and while that's not quite as exciting as bringing new life into the world, Goulding's stoked for fans to hear it nonetheless. She visibly brightens when talking about what a new album will sound like. While the songs on Brightest Blue felt emotional and introspective, this will be a return to lose-yourself-on-the-dance pop, and she's obsessed with getting the production right.

I thought she disliked 'delirium' lol

So why would she be taking inspiration from Delirium? laugh.gif

i mean this is true... 'delirium' only had one hit and it wasn't even a 'delirium' single lol

Isn't that one more hit than her last album tho?

What? Delirium also had Army that went top 20
ands don't forget it also included Love Me Like You Do which was #1 everywhere in the world

I assume LMLYD is what they're referring to as not a Delirium single as it was for Fifty Shades of Grey

That website doesn't even quote her once, nor has there been anywhere else on the Internet that she's mentioned a new album for this year, even "tentatively". I'd take it with a massive grain of salt, because to me it sounds like whoever wrote the article has stitched together their own narrative. Plus...why would she be releasing an album while she's touring Brightest Blue?

It's Paper's interview & photoshoot with her, if it's not been relayed anywhere else on the internet it's because they don't care tongue.gif

(and it directly quotes her throughout the whole thing?)

I was meaning to say it doesn’t directly quote her talking about a tentative new album for 2021. It quotes her talking about everything that isn’t that. Hence me saying take it with a grain of salt as zero anything there was a direct, quoted confirmation of an album for this year by Ellie.

Posted by: dannjohn Apr 28 2021, 09:11 AM

i'm not overly sure if that Brightest Blue tour will happen... she'll have literally just popped her baby out.

Posted by: Juan Carlos May 1 2021, 04:41 AM

New music is expected to be released this summer.

Posted by: Warwick Avenue May 2 2021, 08:25 AM

I’ve gone off Ellie since the release of Delirium so I’m hoping she can return to her earlier form.

Lost & Found is amazing though.

I'm glad she's not leaving it too long to release new music. I still love Brightest Blue so if it's anything like that I'll be happy.

Also participating in Great British Bake Off next week

In the meantime she was sampled in two songs released yesterday.

Label confirm new music very soon.

Two new songs registered

What has him being a part of Stereo Kicks, a group from 7 to 8 years ago, got to do with his songwriting career? Everyone starts somewhere. How about not being closed minded and snobby until hearing the song?

Posted by: Bjork Jun 12 2022, 12:43 PM

Lol it's based on the songs I know he's written
I went to Genius and checked all songs he's written
it's not based on hm being on XF lol

Posted by: lewistgreen Jun 12 2022, 12:52 PM

He's worked with Kungs, JLS, Lewis Capaldi, James TW, Becky Hill, The Vamps, HRVY. Sure they may not be *your* cup of tea but that doesn't make him out to be a bad songwriter

Posted by: dannjohn Jun 13 2022, 10:48 AM

tom's written a fair few songs recently hasn't he? You, How to be Lonely... he's also a really nice guy. Saw a solo show of his years ago!

Also... who wasn't obsessed with Stereo Kicks

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 14 2022, 04:00 PM

"She's going to hell. I was really hoping it's some joke, but it's not. Easy Lover, a nearly 6 year old song now is a lead of EG5. It also has a completely unnecessary feat. The MV is weird af too, doesn't fit the era aesthetics at all. Why was she rehearsing Let It Die choreo for days... they had promo assets for it ready too, just to switch to this."

Originally a collaboration with Calvin Harris.

Wonder who the feat is?

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 14 2022, 08:10 PM

Easy Lover featuring Big Sean produced by Greg Kurstin is now the lead single. Music video has been shot this week. Very futuristic dance song apparently.

Apparently her beat material this album. ( justice for lost and found and love im given)

The switching of the single at the last minute already spells disaster to me, but I guess we'll see how it turns out.

Posted by: Bjork Jun 17 2022, 09:01 AM

^think thats fake news, the single is the one featuring Big Sean (I think)
called Easy Lover, not a Phil Collins cover though
but apparently. leftover from like 5-6 years ago

artists always switch singles though... wouldn't think it anything to worry about.

Not usually this late in the day when a video for the other one has already been filmed, and the fact it's a leftover from years ago doesn't fill me with confidence.

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 17 2022, 04:35 PM

Apparently Easy Lover is her favorite the only reason it hasn't been released in the past 5 years is due to conflict with Calvin Harris. Be interesting to hear however she is known to have better songs than the leads in the past.

Posted by: Bjork Jun 18 2022, 06:02 AM

so easy lover is a Calvin Harris song??

New music out next month.

Posted by: dannjohn Jun 20 2022, 10:29 AM

bit confused at her team when they saw the reaction to EG 2.0??? All the reviews literally loved BB and hated EG 2

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 23 2022, 11:39 AM

I still think if the song is good everything clicks she could still get a hit. She is still well streamed worldwide with no new song in year, currently 119 on Spotify. She also drew a bigger crowd than the headliners at rock on rio. Nearly 100 000

I think it was a very late single in the campaign for her first era, and it sort of randomly took off early 2012 in other territories. I suppose they could have went for a UK re-release of it in 2012 to captialise on its international success, but I think they were perhaps more focused on preparing for the second album campaign to begin at that point.

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 28 2022, 04:04 PM

Unsure if this is sped up actually think this might be a collection of remixes and an official 2022 edit of lights.

Posted by: Bjork Jun 28 2022, 04:17 PM

yes, they had already milked the debut album to death, with like 6 single and an album re-release
but it's not everyday that a UK artists gets a US #2 so they should totally have capitalised on that and re-release Lights

Posted by: dannjohn Jun 28 2022, 04:18 PM

yeah the issue with 'Lights' was... it was a really random hit in the US and a sleeper hit as well, I think it took over a year to take off?

Posted by: Bjork Jun 28 2022, 04:40 PM

was reading now the story of Lights in the US and it's kinda crazy
it debuted in the top 100 for 1 week in August 2011, then returned to the top 100 in January 2012
and climbed and climbed and it took the song 29 weeks (> 6 months) to make the top 5, eventually peaking at #2 for two weeks

Posted by: Jessie Where Jun 28 2022, 04:49 PM

By which point they were probably preparing to launch 'Anything Could Happen'.

Posted by: Bjork Jun 28 2022, 07:34 PM

but in the first half of 2012 they could have re-released Lights in the UK, at least try...

Posted by: lewistgreen Jun 28 2022, 07:45 PM

It wouldn't surprise me if she is going with a sped up version of Lights. It is being used in over 40k TikTok videos

Posted by: dannjohn Jun 29 2022, 04:25 PM

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 30 2022, 11:00 AM

I do think Lights is a well known song in the UK still. However what does baffle me is that she never gets recognised for her success overseas in the UK. I feel like at this point she is now more popular overseas than she is here.

Posted by: Bjork Jun 30 2022, 11:26 AM

QUOTE(Bjork @ Jun 30 2022, 12:26 PM) *

On an albums level yes, but on an individual singles level perhaps not

Lights is Silver here whereas it's 6x Platinum in the US
Anything Could Happen - Platinum in the UK, 2x Platinum in the US
Burn - 2x Platinum in the UK, 4x Platinum in the US
Love Me Like You Do - 3x Platinum in the UK but it is 9x Platinum in Australia and 7x Platinum in the US
On My Mind - Platinum in the UK, 2x Platinum in the US
Close To Me - Gold in the UK, 2x Platinum in the US and Australia
Hate Me - Gold in the UK, 2x Platinum in the US

I know they're bigger markets but comparatively you have to sell more to get the bigger certifications

Posted by: Jessie Where Jun 30 2022, 11:44 AM

I can't countenance the idea that 'Burn', 'Anything Could Happen' and 'On My Mind' at least were bigger hits in the US than in the UK.

Posted by: Rough_edges Jun 30 2022, 12:04 PM

Radio in the US also collectively eat every single song she does up. I do just feel like her international success is never celebrated. Bare in mind she was getting success in the US in a period where very little British artists were.

there's been 2 leaks from this album.

'Real Love' is tagged as with Bastille but the version i've heard isn't (unless maybe BVs). It's a good song - quite BB sounding.
'Tainted Love' sounds like a 'Halcyon Days' leftover.

Stunnnnnnnning!

Posted by: Frenchie Oct 19 2022, 06:01 AM

Loving the artwork! Excited for this cheer.gif

Posted by: Bjork Oct 19 2022, 07:07 AM

wow cannot wait

Posted by: Y'all Starlight Oct 19 2022, 08:28 AM

Thats annoying with the release date. Janurary is shaping up to be a really boring chart month will only Sam & Ava dropping on the last week. Anyway lovely cover art!

Posted by: JackTheeStallion Oct 19 2022, 08:51 AM

That artwork is genuinely stunning and 'Let It Die' actually sounds like a bop.

I don't think she will get single success again, but I still think she'll do decently album wise and with tours.

Posted by: dannjohn Oct 19 2022, 08:56 AM

Here comes the smasher

Posted by: Rough_edges Oct 19 2022, 02:05 PM

What's everyone's favourite song from each album?

For me
- Guns n Horses / Under the Sheets
- My Blood / You My Everything
- Lost & Found
- Love I'm Given

Posted by: Bjork Oct 19 2022, 02:19 PM

for me:
Lights
Don't say a word/Figure 8
Something in the way you move
Flux

Posted by: dannjohn Oct 19 2022, 04:12 PM

This love will be your downfall
Atlantis
The Ending
Lost & Found
Flux or Brightest Blue

Such an incredible British artist unlike others

Posted by: HausSucksBlood Oct 19 2022, 04:27 PM

The artwork - wow! I am not huge on the deluxe version so I'll be using the standard version for sure. Stunning.

Posted by: Frenchie Oct 19 2022, 04:31 PM

Pre-order is up now!

Posted by: JosephStyles Oct 19 2022, 04:45 PM

Incredible standard artwork!!!

16 tracks on the deluxe, all that's revealed so far via the iTunes pre-order:

6. Easy Lover (so much for this adamantly not being on the album lol)
8. Let It Die
16. All By Myself (with Alok & Sigala)

Posted by: Frenchie Oct 19 2022, 04:53 PM

Apparently this is the full standard track list

1. Midnight Dreams
2. Cure for Love
3. By The End Of The Night
4. Like A Saviour
5. Love Goes On
6. Easy Lover
7. Higher Than Heaven
8. Let It Die
9. Waiting For It
10. Just For You
11. How Long

Posted by: UltraMidnights Oct 21 2022, 02:21 AM

Let it die is such a bop, I love it!! Easy Lover got old for me pretty quick but feel like I’m gonna have let it die on repeat for quite a while <3

Remove don’t say a word and this is the exact same for me! Also I don’t consider it an album song (even though it appears on delirium) but love me like you do remains an 11/10 moment <3

Posted by: Bjork Oct 21 2022, 05:20 AM

I always forget LMLYD is on Delerium, always see it as a stand-alone single

oh there is an amazing green vinyl <3 goes order

Posted by: dannjohn Oct 21 2022, 08:42 AM

i don't know what silly old fool thought Easy Lover wasn't going to be on the album - i'm wondering if Julia Michaels was threatening them to release it?? Just seems so random to pull it out of nowhere and release it and it not do much

Posted by: neill2407 Oct 21 2022, 09:25 AM

Is let it die a reject from delirium? It’s quite good anyway.

It's a different song that just shares the same title.

Posted by: dannjohn Oct 21 2022, 09:50 AM

she joins the ranks of Kylie and Madonna who have duplicate songs with the same title..

Posted by: Bjork Oct 21 2022, 09:55 AM

She could easily have called it Time to Let It Die but not sure how much songwriting she did in the song

That sounds SO good. 'Let it Die' hasn't really hit the mark for me but that sounds like dynamite.

Posted by: dannjohn Nov 19 2022, 08:03 PM

Shes added three songs to some musical Crush Hour. One of them ‘Journey In’ is really beautiful. Slightly reminds me of Tell Me on a Sunday.

All By Myself got its biggest streaming day yesterday. She also reached a new monthly peak in listeners.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 4 2023, 07:08 AM

One month until this is out.

I’ll need to check it out. Saying that I still haven’t listened to her last album. None of the singles then really drew me in.

Posted by: Bjork Jan 5 2023, 07:56 AM

You should! Brightest Blue is a great album imho, and I mean the album proper not the EG0 thing with the (crap) singles like Hate Me etc
the proper album is excelllent with songs like Flux or Love I'm Given

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 5 2023, 08:04 AM

I probably really should check it out. I’ll add it to my list of albums to listen to. smile.gif

Posted by: Chloe00x Jan 9 2023, 05:16 PM

Had an email it’s been pushed back to 24th March.

Posted by: Brer Jan 9 2023, 05:48 PM

RAYE rejoices... (although Shania is still out the same day)

Posted by: Bjork Jan 9 2023, 09:20 PM

Like a Saviour (+ video) coming soon, just announced on IG.
Her label really think delaying the album 1 month is worth it, that they are gonna have a hit in 1 month without any playlist or radio support? miracles dont happen.

Posted by: Frenchie Jan 9 2023, 09:36 PM

Delaying the album isn't gonna help at all. She's not going to get a hit single, might as well get the album out there.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 9 2023, 11:04 PM

Yeah, can’t see the point in delaying this. Hopefully it works for her though.

Posted by: Bjork Jan 10 2023, 08:08 AM

what she actually wrote on IG:
To my incredible fans- I’m sorry to announce that we’re delaying the release of Higher Than Heaven to March 24. I know you’ve all been so patient with me but we’ve had some exciting opportunities appear behind the scenes which I cannot wait to share with you in due course.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 10 2023, 08:35 AM

Hmm would this be promo opportunities? Like television appearances? Meaning it’d be better to release the album then.

Posted by: Rough_edges Jan 10 2023, 08:36 AM

My only thought is she is could be doing eurovison? As she is with the management who arrange it. Would probably either kill her off completely or do wonders

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 10 2023, 06:40 PM

That’d be an interesting move. One I’m not against for her.

I think her career is past its peak, so it wouldn’t do too much damage. Might even slightly revive it

Posted by: Jessie Where Jan 10 2023, 07:29 PM

Maybe Sam Ryder's participation and success since has given it a bit of credibility again, so perhaps couldn't be out of the question.

Why would she move the release date of the album closer to the show if she's to focus on preparing for her entry in the time between?

Posted by: Rough_edges Jan 10 2023, 07:33 PM

My thoughts but I just cant fathom what other opportunity could be?

Posted by: Rough_edges Jan 11 2023, 04:54 PM

Tap management are commenting on her posts, I think this is looking likely unfortunately.

I'm guessing song announcement and tie in with album release.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 11 2023, 07:02 PM

If it is going to happen I wonder if it’ll be a song already on the album or a new one they add on.

Posted by: Chloe00x Jan 11 2023, 07:08 PM

Ellie is under TAP but doing Eurovision would be a step back for the UK imo.

Posted by: Chloe00x Jan 12 2023, 05:38 PM

Ellie is doing another collab with Calvin Harris. Banger incoming.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Jan 12 2023, 07:51 PM

I wonder if this is the opportunity she’s referring to. Should be a good song though, they have a good track record.

Posted by: Voodoo Jan 12 2023, 08:44 PM

Calvin is not the hits machine he once was, so good luck to her. coffee.gif

Posted by: Brer Jan 13 2023, 12:58 AM

More of a hits machine than Ellie is though kink.gif

Posted by: Jessie Where Jan 13 2023, 01:21 AM

I'm pretty sure Calvin could still be if he was as prolific with his standard fare, he just hasn't really released anything in recent times.

And yes, if course there is that very salient point above.

Posted by: Megan_ Jan 13 2023, 11:58 AM

All By Myself is doing good but I wonder if they will add it to the album so she has a couple of guaranteed popular lead singles? Let's face it, it will be popular.

Posted by: Jessie Where Jan 13 2023, 02:00 PM

Didn't he release a (terrible) album last year?

Posted by: Brer Jan 13 2023, 03:10 PM

I assume Aly means he hasn't released much of his 'standard fare' (i.e. house bangers rather than his Love Regenerator / Funk Wav detours) recently? The only one he's dropped recently was the Tom Grennan collab, and that was a top 10 hit.

Unless Funk Wav Bounces Vol. 2 was really just that forgettable kink.gif (but even so, it produced a top 10 and another top 20, so Calvin is far from done commercially even with that era getting pretty meh reception)

Ellie’s album should be pushed forward a week to the 17th so she ain’t in direct competition with Lana

On the 3rd she’s be massively beaten by Paramore, the 10th is a bit clearer but I wouldn’t rule out Shania Twain. Her label have probably accepted the #2 at this point…

Posted by: Bjork Jan 21 2023, 02:48 PM

if Ellie's label moved it out of Feb is cos she didn't have enough preorders, if she had lots they would have sticked to the original date as Raye/Shania are competition but not of the same level as Lana.

U2's is a re-imagined GH, with even new lyrics in places were Bono didn't like the original ones, all linked to Bono's autography book from last year, even same title I think.

Posted by: Frawdree Jan 21 2023, 08:28 PM

Good thing they’re doing so much active promotion between the label and Ellie to secure enough additional preorders to do well.

This particular era seemed set in stone. None of the singles were hits and yet they seemed to proceed forward with the release date. She announced 2 shows at Koko alongside it's release. The album has been pressed on vinyl and CD and then suddenly the release date is changed about 2 weeks before because of "exciting opportunities".

Were then told she's doing a Calvin track, which will only make the virtual copy, which could have just been held off for a re-release 2 months down the line.

It's incredibly odd for an artist who seemed to be having no commercial success and her label seemed to accept that to suddenly change plans 2 months before.

All this, alongside the fact her management team are the ones booking the UK entry to Eurovision.

Even now, the Calvin song has been delayed due to a sample clearance and the BBC have a strict no-sample policy for Eurovision.

In retrospect, the Koko show was great and it is rather unusual for a star of Ellie's ilk to debut mainly new music a month ahead of release but it was great.

Miracles is labelled Ellie Goulding & Calvin Harris. And is being premiered on the one show March 9th with Tap Management also attending.

Posted by: Amanda Hugginkis Feb 24 2023, 09:14 PM

That's our Eurovision song! They're going all out this year, with Calvin and a famous name, to capitalise on, through a miracle, the UK coming second. People thought they would never, ever see the Eurovision in the UK again, or for the UK to come top 5 ever again, let alone 2nd!

Ellie was flopping, and her management gave her a new opportunity.

One Show, Tap Management, my London source ... all signs pointing to Ellie at Euros!!! cheer.gif

Posted by: Rough_edges Feb 24 2023, 09:33 PM

Ellie has a fan group on Facebook where she posts and she confirmed the premier on there today. However what I will say is even though I don't think it's a goof career move, she will be in Liverpool very soon x

Video is also ready to go and was filmed in a church setting which proceeds to a CGI futuristic world

Have you heard ha sang? Will it win Eurovision? Or come close? Ukraine will probably win tbh.

If its not number one for at least 4 weeks then there's something wrong with the general public.

Chorus:

Want you to see my all
Well be living in a miracle
Where are dreams are far apart
Our bodies aching heart
Want you to feel the pain
When you not in my miracle
Where are hope and dreams belong
But out stars don't align
Want you to feel it all

It’s not the BBC, all Eurovision songs need to be fully original recordings or they cannot compete.

Posted by: Amanda Hugginkis Feb 25 2023, 03:55 PM

She's probably already pulled out of that concert then, or reschedules to the next say. They just can't announce it yet, or it'd be super obvious!

Posted by: Voodoo Feb 25 2023, 11:29 PM

^ I'm quite confident she's doing Eurovision this year. The timing of the single release, the Tap connection, the album being pushed back, reuniting with Calvin... It all makes sense.

Posted by: darrens94 Feb 26 2023, 08:18 AM

I could easily see Ellie doing it with one of the songs from her new album what I can’t see is Calvin Harris being involved. I would love to be wrong though as I would love to see two quite big artists representing the UK with a massive hit that this is likely to be. It would be such a moment and a turnaround from the likes Electro Velvet and Michael Rice. I still think Rina Sawayama is the most likely at the moment though.

Posted by: One_For_Sorrow Feb 26 2023, 08:43 AM

Here for Ellie to do Eurovision if that actually happens.

Posted by: Megan_ Feb 26 2023, 09:45 AM

What ya'll smoking I want some of it laugh.gif

Isn't it more realistic that Polydor/Tap Management will put Miracle on the digital version of her album to boost it? I'm still not sure why they haven't moved the release date back/forward a week to avoid Lana.

Eurovision with Ellie is unlikely but it is silly to even entertain it ft. Calvin Harris. If that happens next year people would expect Adele. It's a trance song which makes me think wouldn't be a good fit. Aside from that they/she has multiple commitments.

Oh my Ellie! Kinda useless to pushed the album when the physicals won't have the collaboration and even if the song is massive and added to the stream version of the album, the 2 highest tracks are neutralised so won't count for album streams/sales either.

Well the 'official' reason for it being pushed back is supposedly due to 'delays in sourcing' the 'green' materials for the physicals.

We are getting Calvin collab within the next week and we are getting one more solo song in the next two.

What I Still don't get, why the UK doesn't have a sorta pre-contest to decide who goes, like San Remo in Italy

The choice of the new single is quite surprising looking at the views from her KOKO performance. (I'm talking about this one account that was recording from the balcony, she posted most of the songs after the concert). However, 'By The End Of The Night' is much more friendly and easier to listen by a generic audience than 'Higher Than Heaven' or 'Better Man' so I kind of get it...

p.s.

Why do we have to wait a week until a single release? I don't want to bother with listening to the song on YouTube and listen to James Corden everytime I have a listen blink.gif

I genuinely feel sorry for people that are constantly keeping tabs on such relatively meaningless chart milestones. Especially once they get super specific about the criteria. I’d much rather their labels be the one to care and talk about such totals rather than people on Twitter slavishly bleating these records into the void.

I absolutely love this. Official audio released this afternoon.

My rankings so far:

By The End Of The Night 10/10 - think this is my favourite she's released in a good while
Easy Lover - 10/10 - has grown on me a lot
Miracle - 10/10 she needs to go further down this route her voice is catered for this music

Like A Saviour - 8/10 solid pop song missing the goulding touch

Let It Die 6/10 - grates on me now

All By Myself - 1/10 really grown to hate it

By The End of The Night after a few listens is clearly my favourite from this album so far and even prefer it to miracles. Sounds very radio friendly. Apart from Love I'm Given if she had returned with these songs on Brightest Blue she would be in a much different position now.

Yeah fully agree about Worry About Me. She was always going to decline at some point just so happy we seem to be getting a solid album. If you look at others at that time who debuted Jessie J, Pixie Lott she has done well to get this far into her career.

- Higher Than Heaven

Really can't see the point in this as that means most the album has been released prior to the release of the actual album.

It is a tie in with the amazon concert which premieres on the 31st

Wouldn’t it be bettee to release the album next week then?

Absolutely, she hasn't left the top 100 artists on Spotify since it became a thing. Her label have done her dirty the past few years and her anxiety has held her back. I'm hoping for a more authentic approach with new label.

If Miracle goes number one in two weeks time she could actually get the double again

BTEOTN has started entering other markets now

Apple Music:

#43 Libya

#66 United Kingdom

#73 Lithuania

#86 Qatar

#180 Ireland

I'm refraining from listening
but why she released half of the album last Friday? makes zero sense to me

and why is saying it's her less personal album ever as a way to sell it, also makes no sense to me

Definitely #1 in albums, basically nothing else is out, even with 10K she could do it

Posted by: Rough_edges Apr 6 2023, 12:04 PM

Her saying it's her least personal has actually gained her a lot of good press and publicity for the album than anything else has this era. The guardian have lapped this album up because of it!

Posted by: JosephStyles Apr 6 2023, 12:05 PM

Saying it's her "least personal album" is one quote in an interview she did, it's obviously been taken as the headline and people are running with it. The full quote: "In the best possible way, this album wasn’t taken from personal experiences, and it was such a relief and really refreshing to not be sitting in the studio going through all the things that happened to me and affected me. Because I feel things very deeply. I always have. It’s the least personal album, but I think it’s the best album because I got to just explore other things about myself. I just really, really enjoy writing, really enjoy being a singer."

I find it quite refreshing that she's not pedalling the "most personal album" stuff that most artists do, and there's another article praising Ellie for "making pop escapist again" (read it https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/apr/04/its-my-least-personal-album-thank-you-ellie-goulding-for-making-pop-escapist-again). It's working from a publicity point of view too because I've seen the quote all over my feed, from just news outlets reporting on it to memes mimicking the famous Fake Showbiz News tweets about Ellie that always go viral. It's probably better publicity than what she'd get if she'd made out it was more personal than it actually is!

Posted by: GraceAJX Apr 6 2023, 12:15 PM

Taste Like You is a career highlight for me!! Theres a couple that arent sitting well with me at the minute like Just for You, in general so strong. Obviously doesn't reach the highs if Halcyon but this is so good!

Initially:

Midnight Dreams - 8/10
Cure For Love - 8/10
By The End Of The Night - 10/10
Like a Saviour- 8/10
Love Goes On - 6/10
Easy Lover - 10/10
Higher Than Heaven - 9/10
Let It Die - 7/10
Waiting for It - 7/10
Just For You - 5/10
How Long - 6/10
Temptation - 7/10
Intuition - 8/10
Tastes Like You - 11/11
Better Man - 10/10

All By Myself should not have been included on this album does not fit.

Standouts so far: Midnight Dreams, Like A Saviour, Easy Lover (Solo), Higher Than Heaven, Just For You (!), Temptation, Tastes Like You (!)
I’m very impressed. Just For You into Tastes Like You was an incredible find.

It’s pretty middle of the road for me on first listen, some real good songs but then some that just seem to blend into others.

Lights remains her best for me.

Posted by: Bjork Apr 7 2023, 06:46 AM

I know having Miracle or not wouldn't make an abysmal difference since the track is neutralised for counting album streams
but still fans of the song might see it as part of an album and further investigate
and its not like the label cares about the album being cohesive since they already added the Sigala useless atrocity

Trying so desperately hard to be American after the wobble of the Delirium era really was such a misguided move.

I feel like 2016 and onwards were the years she started being replaced by Dua Lipa as the “it girl” when she failed to do anything off Delirium’s rollout and campaign. By weirdly positioning herself as the soundtrack ballad singer for both 50 Shades and Bridget Jones was such a double edge sword that put herself into a box that I think affected future label expectations and her artistry arc in ways that she’s still dealing with today.

This album seems very much a call and response to Future Nostalgia and it’s trying to catch up with what she was doing 3 years ago going by sharing her previous management and enlisting Koz for production. Just like when she went the Delirium route with Max Martin after 1989’s success.

Shows either a lack of vision or confidence. Or she and her label and management are content to follow in the direction, soundscapes and general previously (riches filled) trodden paths as others.

I quite like seeing the refreshing kinds of promotion and interviews she’s done for this so far.

In todays world we often hear how every album an artist releases is “the most personal one yet” and how the recording was this and this and you hear the music and you think really laugh.gif so to her her say it’s the least personal yet feels very accurate and true.

I like the album for what it is. Escapism pop done well but it’s pretty strong as a whole piece, flows nicely and feels cohesive.

Should be a safe #1 for her so the pushbacks seemed to have worked in her favour! If she makes it to #1 will she tie Adele as the female BRIT with the most #1 albums?

I bought the deluxe and glad I did as there are some great tracks at the end.

The pre-release songs have been very well picked though and for me it’s quite a bit better overall than Brightest Blue.

So she could very likely do the double this week - proving wrong the people who believe Ellie is no longer relevant.

How does one prove their relevancy by having 5 singles fail to chart, needing 6 months of album pre-orders (with signed Christmas card upsells, signed artwork upsells, signed poster upsells, personalised voicenotes upsells, cheap £20 album + gig tickets incentives, live HMV signings with album purchase upsells, personalised signed copies on banquet records, Zoom competition preorder incentive and live show presales).

Someone with actual relevancy probably wouldn’t need a last minute “oh shit, I need to get into the studio with Calvin moment” to save this era along with the gazillion previously mentioned preorder options and then fail to even get 2 million streams on its first day. And then her Twitter chart stans have suddenly stopped reporting everything after its second day of streams, which is hilarious. You’d expect someone with relevancy to have a relevant amount of streams on Spotify to shout about. 44 million monthly listeners and barely any of them choose to listen to the new album.

I'll always defend that a condensed Delirium would be so good (and most of the songs come from the standard album, to its credit). 16 tracks including deluxe is more than enough!

US Billboard 200 peaks:

#9 - Halcyon [2xPlatinum - 2,000,000+]
#3 - Delirium [Platinum - 1,000,000+]
#29 - Brightest Blue [Gold - 500,000+]
#125 - Higher than Heaven [10,000+]

It will slap in the charts as a modernised single!! It shoulda been released as a single back then.

Well it’s already been confirmed as being on the next Now volume, as seen in http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=253289&view=findpost&p=7378816, so I would guess yes it is an official single.

Omg!!!!

Literally I just want a folk album from her, this direction is what I've always wanted from her.

Also she has now departed polydor and is with Sony

Has this been confirmed or is it just a rumour?

Another one coming soon

BUNT & Ellie Goulding - Lose It All

Reworked version of this. BEYOND happy she seems to be going further into the house direction.
