CHART COMMENTERY
SINGLES
Meghan storms to the top as All About That Bass is finally out while Ella gets her highest solo peak. What a Comeback
Chart Points

Well this number 1 wasn't obvious at all All About That Bass has been set to smash since it first premiered and after spending 6 weeks on the top 40 with only streaming [including 1 week top 10], the addition of sales booms All About That Bass to #1. It sold a massive 357k which only Shake It Off has done bigger sales on opening weekend this year and it should hang around for a very long time.
Ella Eyre grabbed a new solo peak with Comeback entering in 2nd. This outpeaks If I Go which peaked at 4 and it doubled the opening sales of If I Go. This is a massive success for Ella as it looked like it was going to debut at #5.
However Ella only just made it to 2nd as Taylor was around 300 copies behind her as her number 1 Shake It Off leaves the top spot again. The Veronicas did fantastically to finish 4tth this week as they only had 3 days of sales due to a dispute in Ultraviolenceland whether it was going to be eligible or ineligible to chart because of a real life held back release. Well you all know the answer to that question. Idina is back in the top 5 and she only has 8 weeks to go until Let It Go becomes the first ever song to spend 52 weeks consecutively in the top 40 [Because Of You made it to 51 weeks, fell to 41 the next week before re-entering for quite a long time again].
This week was an all female top 5 and they all sold over 100k
Alexa Goddard reached a new peak of 12 with Ultraviolenceland's BJSC69 entry Marilyn. There were quite a few re-entries again this week- the highest from Lily Allen with platinum selling single As Long As I Got You which is back in the charts after hearing it on an advert. Run also is back because I have listened to it quite a lot this week, Problem is back again because I heard a shortened version of it on Capital that I loved and Untouched is back because it is just amazing.
Bang Bang surprisingly held on well this week by only falling 5 places [17 on Wed and 23 on Fri updates] and Jessie J had another new entry from her new album this week for the very good song Personal just sneaking in at 40.
Jordin Sparks debuted at 50 with her new entry- could that climb into the top 40 next week
Next week will be an interesting week- Glow could potentially challenge for the top spot and Anaconda will do well


ALBUMS
Another boring week on the albums chart again as Royal Blood climb to get their first week at number 1 with their self-titled album in its 6th week. Paloma and everyone else pretty much hold steady and La Roux spend another week at 4.
The Veronicas re-enter at 8 with the amazing album Hook Me Up and Jamie T scores his first ever top 10 album with Carry On The Grudge
And that is all the interesting stuff on a very eventful album chart this week

Hi.

'As Long As I Got You' was never one of my favourites but I can see why it was chosen as a single - even though there's some album tracks that I adore on Sheezus (like 'Close Your Eyes' and 'Take My Place') I don't think they'd have worked as singles. Such a shame this era has been a huge mess though. Hopefully Lily can move and have success with her next album.

Nice to see returns for Leona Lewis' 'Run' and The Veronicas' 'Untouched'. The former is one of my favourites from Leona (Snow Patrol's original is also very good) and the latter brings back a lot of 2009 memories - one of the best years for pop music to me.

'As Long As I Got You' was never one of my favourites but I can see why it was chosen as a single - even though there's some album tracks that I adore on Sheezus (like 'Close Your Eyes' and 'Take My Place') I don't think they'd have worked as singles. Such a shame this era has been a huge mess though. Hopefully Lily can move and have success with her next album.

Nice to see returns for Leona Lewis' 'Run' and The Veronicas' 'Untouched'. The former is one of my favourites from Leona (Snow Patrol's original is also very good) and the latter brings back a lot of 2009 memories - one of the best years for pop music to me.
