Good evening people! The final answer is coming very soon!

In case you haven’t taken in my long explanation on the last page yet, here’s the important bit right now – the scores for R and S!

That’s the 2 songs which have held the most positions in the Top 100. These are both songs from Part 1. Here they are again:

S: Kings Of Leon - Sex On Fire (Song G)
Top 100 debut 2008 | Weeks 124 | Positions 70 | Rank 3rd
1-2, 4-6, 11-19, 21-23, 26-27, 29-31, 33, 37-40, 43, 45, 47, 49-57, 60-62, 66-68, 70-74, 77-95, 99

R: Ed Sheeran - Perfect (Song H)
Top 100 debut 2017 | Weeks 125 | Positions 71 | Rank 2nd
1, 3-7, 11-13, 16, 18-19, 22-26, 28-29, 31-34, 36-38, 40, 42-44, 46-53, 55-62, 64-66, 69, 71, 73-83, 86-89, 91-93, 96-97

M4NGO, chrissmith276, Scene, LewisGT, coi, Riser, Rush all scored 2 points on each question!

Jade and MrAndrewMan got 1 point on either respectively.

So with one answer left unannounced, 6 entrants still have a chance of top, or joint top finish, as their scores are:

40: M4NGO, Chris, LewisGT, coi, Rush
38: Scene

and here’s the final answer...

Snow Patrol - Chasing Cars
Top 100 debut 2006 | Weeks 166 | Positions P: 74 | Rank 1st
6-10, 12-17, 20-21, 23-29, 31-32, 35, 39, 44-45, 47-61, 63-72, 74-76, 78-80, 82-88, 90-91, 93-100

2 points: M4NGO, chrissmith276, LewisGT, Rush, StoneDragon
1 point: Jade, coi (73)
0 points: MrAndrewMan, Scene (72), Riser (77)

Chasing Cars holds the record for covering the most positions in the Top 100 with… 74!

M4NGO, chrissmith276, LewisGT, Rush and StoneDragon all got it in one!!

coi originally answered 73 for this on Saturday, but changed it to 74 an hour before the deadline yesterday, unfortunately for this question the scoring stated changing your answer once submitted costs 1 point, so his total is unchanged – I’m really sorry coi!

Jade was also within 1 number of the right answer here. Scene was so close too, and this was only his second incorrect answer of the quiz!

So we have four joint winners with 42/42 scores: congratulations M4NGO, Chris, Lewis and Rush!

1st= | 42 | M4NGO
1st= | 42 | chrissmith276
1st= | 42 | LewisGT
1st= | 42 | Rush
5th | 41 | coi
6th | 38 | Scene
7th | 27 | StoneDragon
8th | 25 | MrAndrewMan
9th | 22 | Jade
10th | 21 | Riser
11th | 16 | dan-G

Everyone scored at least 50% for the answers they entered! cheer.gif

This turned out to be a very competitive quiz, and there were some tough calls to make, but this is the final outcome. It was also a very high scoring quiz, with four players set for 30 leaderboard points! That means a harsh drop between 1st and 5th, but coi will still move further ahead on the series leaderboard!

Thank you for all for playing and putting so much time and effort into your answers, and thanks dan-G for allowing me to host and try something different. It’s been quite an experience for me to run something like this, but I hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did. Make sure to enter awardinary’s Album Cover Quiz for the next in the series!

Thanks for hosting, it was certainly something a little different as far as quizzes go, and once I got my head around it, it was actually surprisingly easy - I wrote a simple formula in Excel which saved me hours of work!

I really enjoyed that, thank you Jim! Wish I hadn't started this so close to the deadline since it took time to work these out, but was quite fun after getting the hang of it. Plus it was worth it for the automatic scoreboard points kink.gif

Congrats to the winners, definitely well-deserved!

Ah, interesting that 'Perfect' getting the #41 was the reason for having to scrap those questions. I had done the first part before then but hadn't gone further yet, so it didn't affect me.

'Perfect' did trip me up for a moment when I was looking for the song with 71 top 100 positions and counted it as 72, but I knew there couldn't be a 72 (as I'd already found the sole over-71 one, 'Chasing Cars') and quickly remembered to delete the #41.

Congrats to my fellow joint winners, especially if anyone was able to do this from memory (to any extent). I started out in the first part by thinking of songs from memory and searching them on Polyhex to count their positions (via find-replace and Excel), and I think I got 8/9 of them that way, but once I exhausted that I made considerable use of the Wikipedia #1s and top 10 hits articles, and later the threads of #6 and #11-20 hits on this site. You should see the state of my notes of songs I went through that weren't correct:

and that was just for the first part laugh.gif

I seemed to find so many close calls later on, including, if I counted correctly:

59 top 100 positions - All Of Me, Use Somebody, Photograph, A Thousand Years
58 - Riptide
57 - Don't Stop Believin' (Journey)
54 - Mr. Brightside
53 - All I Want For Christmas Is You
52 - Hold Back The River (I seriously forgot how big this was)
51 - Let It Go (James Bay)

Thanks for running this!

I'll take 7th! I researched some of the first part but made guesses at the other parts as I completely ran out of time - so pleased that I picked up a few more points. I didn't even know how to find out positions below 75 so that didn't help!

Thanks for hosting Jimwatts - was a head scratcher but a cool concept.

Well done to the winners - you must all like a research project!

If you still don't know, the OCC site has full top 100 runs FYI! (Well, they only have the top 75s for a period in 1991-1994, but at least since then.) For example: https://www.officialcharts.com/search/singles/pompeii/ (click the '+' in the 'Chart Facts' column)
