Lizzo's 'Truth Hurts' Tops Billboard Hot 100 For Sixth Week, 'Good as Hell' Becomes Her Second Top 40 Hit
10/7/2019 by Gary Trust Lizzo logs her sixth week atop the Billboard Hot 100 with "Truth Hurts." She concurrently adds her second top 40 Hot 100 hit, as "Good as Hell" jumps from No. 43 to No. 28. Meanwhile, Lil Tecca's "Ran$om," at its No. 4 Hot 100 high, rules the Streaming Songs chart for a seventh week and is now among the 10 longest-leading hits among artists' debut entries on the latter list. "Truth," released on Nice Life/Atlantic Records, doubles the record for the longest Hot 100 command for a rap No. 1 by a female artist unaccompanied by another act, having surpassed Cardi B's three-week rule with "Bodak Yellow (Money Moves)" in October 2017. (One other rap No. 1 by a female artist and no accompanying acts has led the list: Lauryn Hill's "Doo Wop [That Thing]," for two weeks in 1998.) Among all rap No. 1s by female artists, "Truth" moves to within one week of potentially tying for the longest domination: Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," featuring Charli XCX, led for seven weeks in 2014. "Truth" rebounds for a fifth week atop the Digital Song Sales chart, up 19% to 30,000 sold in the week ending Oct. 3, according to Nielsen Music, and tops Radio Songs for a third week, up 2% to 122 million audience impressions in the week ending Oct. 6. It rises 7-6 on Streaming Songs, up 1% to 27.8 million U.S. streams in the week ending Oct. 3. "Truth" additionally notches a seventh frame at No. 1 on both the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Rap Songs genre charts (which employ the same multi-metric methodology as the Hot 100). Meanwhile, Lizzo earns her second top 40 Hot 100 hit, as "Good as Hell" surges 43-28. The track bullets at No. 8 on Digital Song Sales (12,000, up 16%), debuts at No. 40 on Radio Songs (24.1 million, up 50%) and re-enters Streaming Songs at No. 50 (11.4 million, up 10%). Notably, both songs took scenic routes to the Hot 100. "Truth" was originally released in September 2017, but received renewed attention after being featured in the Netflix film Someone Great, which premiered this April. The song was subsequently added to Lizzo's 2019 LP Cuz I Love You, which debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200 in May and reached No. 4 in September. (The set's lead single, "Juice," reached No. 82 on the Hot 100 in September.) "Good" dates back even further, having originally been released in March 2016 from Lizzo's debut EP, Coconut Oil, which spent a week at No. 44 on Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums that October; the set reached No. 30 on the survey and No. 55 on the Billboard 200 this September. Concurrent with the reemergence of "Truth," and Lizzo's buzzy performance of the two songs in a medley on the 2019 MTV Music Video Awards, Atlantic began promoting "Good" as her next radio single. Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello's "Señorita" stays at No. 2 on the Hot 100, after leading the Aug. 31-dated list. As previously reported, the song rises to No. 1 on the Adult Pop Songs airplay chart, becoming Mendes' sixth No. 1 on the survey, a new record among male soloists. Lewis Capaldi's "Someone You Loved" (which "Señorita" dethrones atop Adult Pop Songs after two weeks in charge) keeps at its No. 3 Hot 100 high. Lil Tecca's "Ran$om" remains at its No. 4 Hot 100 best, while leading Streaming Songs for a seventh week (43.1 million, down 6%), a sum that lifts it to among the 10 longest-reigning debut entries (by artists in lead roles) on the latter ranking. Here's an updated look at acts' first Streaming Songs titles to spend the most weeks at No. 1, dating to the chart's January 2013 inception: Weeks at No. 1, Title, Artist, Date Reached No. 1 20, "Old Town Road," Lil Nas X feat. Billy Ray Cyrus, April 13, 2019 14, "Panda," Desiigner, April 30, 2016 13, "Fancy," Iggy Azalea feat. Charli XCX, May 31, 2014 12, "Uptown Funk!," Mark Ronson feat. Bruno Mars, Jan. 24, 2015 10, "Bad and Boujee," Migos feat. Lil Uzi Vert, Jan. 14, 2017 10, "Watch Me," Silento, Aug. 8, 2015 10, "All About That Bass," Meghan Trainor, Aug. 30, 2014 8, "Harlem Shake," Baauer, March 2, 2013 7, "Ran$om," Lil Tecca, Aug. 31, 2019 7, "Trap Queen," Fetty Wap, June 20, 2015 7, "Thrift Shop," Macklemore & Ryan Lewis feat. Wanz, Jan. 26, 2013 6, "Gangnam Style," PSY, May 25, 2013 Chris Brown's "No Guidance," featuring Drake, holds at its No. 5 Hot 100 high, while leading Hot R&B Songs for a sixth week, and Billie Eilish's "Bad Guy," which ruled the Aug. 24 Hot 100, rebounds 7-6. Rounding out the Hot 100's top 10 are two tracks each by Post Malone and Lil Nas X. The former's "Circles" rises 8-7 after reaching No. 4 and "Goodbyes," featuring Young Thug, is steady at No. 9 after hitting No. 3. The latter's "Panini" drops 6-8 after hitting No. 5 and his record 19-week No. 1 "Old Town Road," featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, remains at No. 10. |
