Saw there wasn't a thread of this. This from Freya Ridings, a piano ballad which went Top40 What do you make of this? |

this took a couple of listens to properly grow on me back when it was sent to BJSC but its really poignant and moving and her voice is so unusual but in a positive way. I'm surprised but happy to see this doing well officially. hopefully it can at least peak top 20/15 but top 5 would be ideal.
I don't remember a proper ballad of this ilk outside of Charlene Soraias Wherever You Will Go and I guess How Long Will I love you , the ballads that have taken off in Autumn/Winter time in a potentially big way tbh. even if its just top 20, it's ideal for John Lewis/X Factor season etc. I love both versions of the song but the live version from BJSC is even better for me! I absolutely adore this, I'm glad that it's growing into a reasonable-sized hit. Her voice is very unique and it really sells the song. I've enjoyed a couple of her other tracks too but nothing as much as this. Is there any word on an album yet?
I imagine she'll rule herself out of eligibility for the Sound Of 2019 list if this goes top 20 in the coming weeks but could be a good choice for the Brits Critics' Choice Award! |

It's my favourite song of the year, by a mile, the Live at St Pancras Church version at least though the original is stunning too, minimal yet so effective. I've been hammering it since February non-stop and have yet to tire of it in any way.
She was so good live when I saw her in May, astonishingly good voice and her melodies are so effortless, her live albums are both excellent and show great potential. Castles, You Mean The World To Me and Love Is Fire are well worth checking out. |

Climbed into the Top20 this, which will rule her out of eligibility for the Sound of 2019 list. Sounds beautiful this.

Young Dumb & Broke entered the Top 20 in November last year so it is quite strange |

I think they changed the eligibility criteria to artists without top 10 singles or albums for Sound of 2018 so looks like Freya is still eligible for Sound of 2019
The shortlist won't be revealed until the end of November anyway. |

It will be interesting to see how many of the tracks on Freya’s two live albums will eventually appear on her debut studio album.
Their continued availability might harm its sales if a lot of the tracks are carried over, which I imagine they will be. |

Freya seems at this point very likely to be the BRITS Critics Choice winner too, so there's that if she isn't eligible for Sound Of 2019.

Now become a Top10 hit for her. It is one of the beautiful songs of the year, I've heard.

I mean, it's good in a way that there's a bit of variety in the top 10 with this but from a personal viewpoint, it is SUCH a dull song.
She does at least have a somewhat unique tone to her voice so I can definitely see myself liking something from her a bit more upbeat perhaps. |

Based on it's attributes I should be a big fan, a standout heartfelt ballad sung by a Hannah Reid-like voice, but I'm just not clicking with this. Maybe like Dobbo said it is just dull and it's not grabbing my attention like similar songs have done. Maybe it's the lack of a climax in the song? Glad we do have some variety in the charts though.

Listen to the remix if you find the original a bit dull! Awesome remix, I actually prefer it.
