UK Chart Run: 74-40-33-31-1-1-2-2-4-5-9-15-22-28-37-42-55-61-65 (19 weeks) Crashing out in 6th is German singer Lou Bega with his signature Latin pop anthem. Sampling a 1949 instrumental piece from Cuban musician Pérez Prado, which invoked a lengthy copyright dispute, it became a #1 in most European countries including the UK. He would only have one further appearance in the UK chart where his identical sounding follow-up charted at a lowly #55 but to my surprise and amazement he is still active in the music scene having released his sixth album as recently as 2021. |

I do remember Mambo No.5 charting on import, the week it climbed to No.40 was the first time I'd ever heard it or even anything about it.
I didn't realise it was charting on import (I may have missed the DJ intro if Mark Goodier did mention why it was there) and my first thought was 'wow, this sounds like a huge smash, amazed it's only at No.40!' For a few days I figured that would be the last I'd hear of it, as songs debuted then disappeared in 1999

I've been voting for Sweet Like Chocolate for a while but it seems like it's a wasted vote. I don't dislike it at all but I know I never listen to it again (probably last time I played it was indeed 1999).

Voted for Shania, a decent song for what it is considering I'm not a fan of country music, but definitely the weakest here.
