Odd decision to (presumably) release the Little Mix song on Sunday, can't imagine it'll make any difference really though as it'll probably still be a big hit

I'm hoping that 'Eyes Shut' can re-enter the top 200 on iTunes, it still pains me that it never managed to go top 10 although their promotion was incredibly annoying. I remember they performed 'King' on Strictly instead of 'Eyes Shut'.

Olly and Zara are both 59p but are not featured in the 59p batch, it's a wise decision from Syco to reduce 'Grow Up' because the single is bombing incredibly hard, it should remain a little bit more stable now though. The same happened with 'You Don't Know Love'.

I don't think it's a big deal Little Mix not releasing today, as it's going to be so rare in this era to peak in week 1 - unless you're only popular by name and nothing else. In which case, an inflated first week means an inflated chart position and doesn't really reflect its true longterm popularity.

The Vamps & Matoma sounds like a ridiculously random mash - I'll have to check that out tomorrow... haha!! That said, Matoma's remix of One Direction's "Perfect" was decent and made that song bearable. And Matoma's remix of Sheppard's "Geronimo" kind of worked too. So maybe it'll work.

I think you're right on the sales chart front (as it got a simultaneous physical release iirc). But their label's bizarre decision to put the single up for pre-order before anyone had heard it meant it only got to about 10/11 on iTunes before freefalling as fanbase preorders no longer affect the rolling chart. That's how I remember it going, at least.

Agreed - the whole of the second album campaign for the Vamps seemed odd and not done very well. Which is odd considering how well the first album release/ single releases went.

New Music Friday effect today will undoubtedly give them a top 75 debut on Spotify. The fact that barely anyone knew the song was out until this morning was the sole reason they didn't do anything on Spotify.

They're looking set to sell around 18,000 on sales alone - meaning they're basically guaranteed a top 40 debut next week.

Pretty impressed RuPaul has got as high as #76 off the back of last night's final. I know sales aren't exactly massive but I wouldn't have thought as many people from the UK will have watched the final as say, a Eurovision semi final, and they don't often get top 100.

Hailee getting a #1 would be fab, it should have been Love Myself but Starving keeps growing on me. It's bang on trend so I knew it would be big but it equally feels quite refreshing, it still has real pop sensibilities.

I think this goes to show that being at the top of iTunes' "Hot Songs" list is potentially just as important, if not more important than being 59p. Hailee and NEIKED were both in the top few Hot Songs, and both have rocketed over 10 places in less than 2 days - quite a feat when we are talking about positions at the top the chart. Likewise Maroon 5 and Fifth Harmony, also featured in Hot Songs, have seen decent boosts.

On the other hand you have Olly Murs being 59p and falling down the chart. So arguably visibility on the home page is more important than 59p when you only get one or the other. The 59p boost only really kicks in when you get featured in the 59p section on the home page as then you have the best of both worlds.

I'm actually tearing up a little bit. The idea of Little Mix being the first female act at UK number 1 in 2016 is a feat I never envisioned in this day and age. Especially with such a risky release strategy. Although in hindsight I guess it's actually a clever one, as I guess sales are low on Sundays now, so they can take full advantage and capitalise on being number 1, fairly quickly!

I think while they were on the home run they chose a safe choice in line with their usual sound to come back with. I think, as with their last second single (Love Me Like You), the second single might be more risky. At least it's not more tropical pop anyway (as Cameron has basically said).

Well I would say it was disco house influenced pop. Similar to Booty Luv in 2006-7, not quite as dancey though.

Really like it though.

I wouldn't say Lush Life was much different to pop at its time, it is tropical house influenced pop music which was very much in trend at the time.

Agreed! I really think the premiering with an XF performance simultaneously has really helped this. It's a very smart move in hindsight. They can claim the fastest climb to number 1 on iTunes since Adele last year and grab headlines for it. Headlines = free promo.

I think the drop for Little Mix won't be too hard with Radio ramping up quickly and they still have the video to be released to boost it more. I think it'll be a long running top 5 hit, but not sure what their chances of #1 are. Just listened again to Little Mix. It doesn't sound nowhere near compared to 'Ugly Heart' to 'Say You Won't Let Go' to 'The Man Who Can't Be Moved'.

I think The Script have to sue James Arthur it sounds very similar every time I hear it. I knew from first listen that it sounded way too similar. Mr Arthur obviously didn't mention any samples at all.

Yeah loads of articles commenting on their outfits during their performance last night. Which really baffles me? Like REALLY baffles me. I don't think they've ever worn anything which makes me think "omg they're sluts" or whatever.

And Mel C commenting on it after having Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Geri consistently wearing the types of dresses they did seems a bit hypocritical.

They don't wear that stuff other than on stage. In interviews and things they're always wearing "normal" clothes.

Edit: but hey. It's OK for Joe Jonas to go literally half naked in the DNCE video and act all erotic.

Absolutely love Shout Out To My Ex as I'm a major fan of my fave girls Little Mix, but I can definitely understand where people are coming from with the Ugly Heart vibes, even on the breakdown before the final chorus it sounds just like Ugly Heart's. For me it's better as its more of an anthem, far more sassy & relatable.

Little mix still have over 60% lead on iTunes, They just had abit of promo on The One Show & have This Morning tomorrow, Which can only boost them a little more really.
