Big topic of the moment is that it seems like Dermot O'Dreary is leaving the X Factor after 8 series. cheer.gif
It is said his replacement could be current co-host of The Voice - Emma Willis

If it becomes true it could certainly bring a breath of fresh air to the show.
IMO I think Dermot O'Dreary is a rubbish presenter - he's too childish, and very much on the same wavelength as Ant & Dec.

I would say Emma has been doing a great job on The Voice last series and looks the same on this.

Good luck Emma cheer.gif

WHAT?

please no, Dermot O'Leary is part of the X Factor furniture sad.gif It'd be sad for him to leave

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 17th January 2015, 11:12 AM

Really hope that is true. Dermot has became awful and I love Emma

Posted by: J▼hnkm 17th January 2015, 11:55 AM

Dermot was ALWAYS awful, but I don't really know if losing him is going to change anything. Half the reason I watch now is to rip it all apart and with someone vaguely competent and not a complete twatbag then we might end up with the true cardinal sin of reality TV: a blandly competent show (see The Voice).

Posted by: April 17th January 2015, 12:10 PM

Dermot's boring now, they need to freshen up the show with a new presenter.

Posted by: T Boy 17th January 2015, 01:47 PM

I won't settle for less than Konnie Huq tbh.

Posted by: Mart!n 17th January 2015, 04:03 PM

I opt for Harry Hill to kill it right off laugh.gif

Posted by: JosephStyles 17th January 2015, 04:41 PM

I like Dermot and would probably miss him but Emma Willis is amazing and I'd be MORE than happy with her presenting the show heart.gif Can't see it happening though.

Posted by: Sean. 17th January 2015, 04:42 PM

Echoing comments about Dermot being boring - I miss Kate Thornton!

Posted by: Liаm 17th January 2015, 04:44 PM

I like Dermot, Kate Thornton was AWFUL.

Emma would be good but she's fine on The Voice imo and BB is her perfect/dream job pretty much so I'd keep her as is. I'm sure who they could have, I'm sure they'll find someone suitable!

Posted by: T Boy 17th January 2015, 05:14 PM

They could let Sinitta do it...

Posted by: Mart!n 17th January 2015, 06:50 PM

If they want a male presenter, most likely Vernon Kay could easily fit into that role. Can't really see anyone else doing it at the moment, unless they go with a female presenter.

I was just thinking to myself the other day, someone like Tom would be a perfect judge. I love McFly and McBusted anyway but I watch his vlogs religiously every week and know he'd bring a quirky, different take to the panel (READ: quirky as in adorkable, not quirky as in Natalia Kills).

Posted by: Jonjo 13th April 2015, 01:43 PM

Tom would be a great addition to the panel tbh. He's such a genuine guy, so you'd be able to tell if he liked someone or not straight away! He's incredibly likeable too. He'll have the right balance between serious and entertaining I think! Hope it's true and something comes from it!

Exactly. He wouldn't run the same risk of being like Gary Barlow was. I think if they did a three judge panel this year with him, Simon and a female judge - maybe Cheryl, but not necessarily - and group the solo male and female categories together regardless of age, it would really reinvigorate the show.

I think a good female judge, if they are looking for one, would be Nicole Appleton. Her All Saints bandmate Melanie Blatt's on the New Zealand one and she was her guest judge at judge's houses this year and she helped out Louis at his judge's houses on our version year before last.

She also was a judge (or presenter? I can't remember which) on a similar show in 2011 called 'Cover Me Canada' over in Canada.

Posted by: Regina 13th April 2015, 02:06 PM

Well at least there'd be some eye candy on the panel.

Does the judging panel really make much difference to how the show does anyway? Back in it's glory days, sure the chemistry or "drama" between the judges was a nice bonus, but surely the main thing that kept people watching was the high standard of the contestants. And it's that that's really fallen off in the last few years.

Posted by: Kuki Sanban 14th April 2015, 12:26 AM

I think a lot of blame for viewing figures is based on the judging panel when I really don't think it makes an enormous difference.

That being said, Tulisa is coming back this year for Cheryl and Mel's weaves.

For me the reason I watched last year was because Cheryl was back (yes I don't rate her as an artist but I enjoy watching her as a judge). It's just down to personal preference I guess!

Well I guess that's all down to personal opinion really, and of course you're entitled to your own, it's just that Ben hasn't released any of his own material yet so I find it hard to rank him against someone like Olly (who, btw, I'm not a huge fan of myself when it comes to his music!). Sure. I'm just a little irritated that as well as being everywhere else and pushed to the hilt (with not much talent to back it up again in imo) Olly and his irritating demeanour will now be all over the XF and will pretty much make it unwatchable for me. But hey I'll live smile.gif

What absolute balderdash! He's got more singles coming from this new album of his, he's in the middle of his third arena tour for a fourth album that's already been to #1 and sold half a million. In fact he's said at the shows this last week another album will be in the making once this tour has finished.

Are people actual idiots and have forgotten that he hosted Xtra Factor and released and toured his two albums from last alongside? Clearly.

Anyway. I am delighted with this news and choice, and I know they'll be brilliant. Carolly feels all over the shop wub.gif I loved Dermot's good luck Tweet to them 'Good luck with the old girl - the show that is, not Louis' biggrin.gif

Posted by: Jonjo 17th April 2015, 12:15 AM

I love them together, but I really don't know whether they're right for the main show? As 'Xtra Factor' hosts they were PERFECT. It's not as "serious" as the main show and provided some quality, light hearted, funny moments. So we shall see! Big fan of both of them though, so I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt!

Posted by: Sean. 17th April 2015, 02:47 AM

I'm just relieved Dermot has gone, his presenting was awful!

Posted by: ThePensmith 17th April 2015, 10:00 AM

I'm still not sure why certain people talk about the main show - or rather hosting it - as this ultra serious, hard hitting show. It's primetime light entertainment on a Saturday night for Christ's sake, not Question Time. This is a show that had Wagner playing bongos and Calvin Harris gatecrashing the stage with a pineapple on his head.

I've also a sneaking suspicion that the same critics (I won't link it here, but Google the Guardian's hideously snotty article about Olly and Caroline they published today) who are bemoaning the decision are probably the same ones who moaned about Dermot replacing Kate Thornton all those years ago.

Most of it is probably because said critics can't stand the fact Olly's enjoyed joint success in two fields of entertainment in the past (and that's not me just being biased, his two albums released whilst he did Xtra have sold 1m each here in the UK alone) - tall poppy syndrome alive and well etc.

Of course they are going to bring a different element to it - anyone who watched them on Xtra will know that - and their two series of Xtra were a lot of the time outperforming previous series because they made it into a show that wasn't just one you switched over for when things kicked off. I have a feeling they'll actually be like Ant and Dec in the first series of 'Pop Idol' and bring a bit of irreverence and wit to it. When you have a winning combination as them, it is stupid not to utilise such a rare magic.

This is exactly what I was thinking. They weren't the most organised presenters and just seemed to mess around and have a bit of a laugh (which worked perfectly on Xtra Factor) but this is a much bigger and more serious job, they won't be able to dance around and do the conga with the crew this time around so we'll have to wait and see.

They were good as a pairing on the Xtra Factor, I think they needed someone else on the main show, mind you I do hate Caroline Flack, she goes on a bit and her annoying laugh. In the end the show is not about the hosts, its a music talent show, does it really matter who is going to host it. My natural instinct they should have chose Holly Willougby mind you she does front many other shows or used the host from FF, forgotten his name, Vernon something.

http://metro.co.uk/2015/04/30/carly-rae-jepsen-to-replace-mel-b-on-the-x-factor-2015-5174131/ - talks apparently now happening with Carly Rae Jepsen to replace Mel B. I only know her from 'Call Me Maybe' (which as pure pop singles of recent memory go I felt was pretty anaemic. Cue all the 'hilarious' shade/diva GIFs being flung my way in retaliation).

But given that she's on the verge of having another top 3 this weekend I'm thinking this *might* be a sensible choice? Anything's a better choice for a new female judge than Lovato, Ora or that sodding Kardashian, in any case. I still say they get Tom Fletcher in to replace Louis Walsh and have a radio DJ take up the fourth spot. The only name however that immediately springs to mind for me is, worryingly, Lisa Snowdon from Capital Breakfast so make of that what you will.

Just sounds like she wants to be a judge tongue.gif Idk if she'd be a great choice, but she does fill the "been there done that" quota (although Cheryl does too) as she was 3rd on Canadian Idol. I guess there are worse choices but there are also far better ones. A DJ would be good but I can't really think of any non-BBC really famous DJs I'd want to be honest.

Louis Walsh won't be returning to The X Factor, according to unconfirmed reports.

No official announcement has been made, but The Sun on Sunday claims that the long-standing judge has been dropped from the ITV singing competition.

Walsh was reportedly informed of the decision by Simon Cowell.

But an X Factor spokesman told Digital Spy: "No formal decisions have been made regarding the full panel for this year's series."

Last month, Walsh suggested that he was "done" with the show after 11 years.

"I want to go back to being a manager. That's my day job and I've neglected it for a long time because I'm away so much," he told TV3's The Seven O'Clock Show.

Walsh's possible departure wouldn't be the only shake-up for this year's series, as Dermot O'Leary previously confirmed that he was stepping down as presenter.

Olly Murs and Caroline Flack will replace O'Leary, becoming the first duo to host the ITV programme.

The rumour of Louis leaving seem to come every year but he really is just getting more and more stale, it used to be that I couldn't imagine the show without him but now it'd be no loss.

Elsewhere, The Mirror is now reporting Nick Grimshaw is in talks to replace Louis Walsh. Whilst I can't stand him on the radio I know him and Simon got on well when he interviewed him last year so this could possibly work: http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/nick-grimshaw-set-join-x-5675795

Please not Grimmy. Anyone else but him!

Posted by: ThePensmith 11th May 2015, 10:55 AM

It'll certainly be interesting to see if the BBC let him have such close association with their main rivals. I said some time ago in this thread that they needed someone who was more independent of performing to be on the panel like a radio DJ. I'm not Grimmy's absolute greatest fan as I've said but if they're looking to get the edge over Strictly again he and Carly or Demi would be a good match with Simon and Cheryl.

So glad Louis is leaving it's about bloody time biggrin.gif I think someone like Tinie Tempah should replace him he's been a guest judge a few times at judges houses and also he helped Tom Jones in the battle rounds of The Voice one year so he seems to know his stuff . Plus he's pretty current and it would be good to have a current male judge on the panel .

I think they need a current male judge, obviously before we've just had Simon, Louis or outdated Gary Barlow. Tinie Tempah is a good suggestion, even someone like Dan Smith from Bastille.

I liked Sarah Jane from what I saw, but I haven't watched Xtra Factor properly since 2012 oops. If Konnie was the host again I'd just have to *.*

I love the idea that Olly went round to Simon's for a curry to talk about doing the show. Don't know why, just amused me a little biggrin.gif

I think what Olly says here and bought up with Simon about the show having got WAY too serious in recent years is true. It's part of why I switched off after the 2012 series. I really feel he and Caroline are going to bring the fun element back to the show smile.gif

BIG Bizarre X Factor exclusive in @TheSunNewspaper tomorrow...It's Rita!

Posted by: Danny 5th June 2015, 10:27 PM

I'm failing to understand why you'd get rid of Mel B for Rita bloody Ora.

Posted by: Ultraviolence1989 5th June 2015, 10:32 PM

Yay if it is Rita, I love her wub.gif

Posted by: Liаm 5th June 2015, 10:35 PM

I don't think Mel wanted to come back, she is currently doing America's Got Talent and Australia's The Voice Kids (I think that started earlier last year so it didn't clash, not sure) is due back and she's on that (I think that may be airing in August or September or so after the main series is done, and that'd deffo clash with X Factor) Idk how she juggled it all last year!!

I like Rita, I certainly don't get the random hate for her.... She was brilliant on The Voice, I'd go as far as saying she's one of the very bes coaches I've seen on there between our version and the US/Aus ones (along with Delta Goodrem, Ricky Martin and Shakira). Uninspired choice but yeah I'm happy enough. I'd rather have Mel but I've come to terms with her not being back.

Posted by: JosephStyles 5th June 2015, 10:35 PM

I love Rita but I'd much rather Mel over her sad.gif Although if Mel chose not to come back then fair enough of course.

Posted by: April 5th June 2015, 10:37 PM

I love Rita but I'll be very disappointed if she ditches The Voice after just one series and after claiming she picked The Voice over X Factor for more freedom etc.

Posted by: Envoirment 6th June 2015, 12:03 AM

Rather have Mel over Rita. Hopefully it isn't Demi/Rita/Cheryl/Simon though, not sure if I'd like that dynamic.

Posted by: Jonjo 6th June 2015, 01:28 AM

Rita! YES!

But yeah, I can't see it happening as I doubt there would be 3 females/1 male panel. Maybe she's the Xtra Factor host? unsure.gif

Posted by: LeeWallace 6th June 2015, 03:19 AM

I'm rather disappointed tbh.

The judging panel is arguably the worst that it's been and Rita Ora has totally contradicted what her previous beliefs were regarding The Voice & X Factor.

not particularly excited about Rita joining but at least they've got someone who's relevant to today's music scene to replace Mel B (I did like her as a judge but she was obviously only going to last one season).

Rita/Cheryl/Simon seems like a good line-up, who'll be the fourth judge then? Hopefully not Demi Lovato, I'd prefer a fully British lineup, plus I imagine they'll get another man to give it a 50:50 gender split.

I can't not see Demi doing it after that pic she posted of (I'm assuming) a contract signing!

Posted by: Robot 6th June 2015, 05:33 PM

If Demi works it, I'll be SO :/ - I can't stand her singing voice, talking voice, false relationship with Simon (which is just as nauseating as Cheryl's, if not worse), just no on every level.

Three females wouldn't work either, it's not females that are hardly often hugely popular personalities, so surely a bigger male personality would be better to balance it as usual.

Posted by: Ryan. 6th June 2015, 06:10 PM

Demi would be amazing but it's 99% not her, a few days after that contract signing Instagram she announced she'd started a new record label with Nick Jonas so I assume it was for that. Plus she already has tour dates in October!

Posted by: T Boy 7th June 2015, 12:22 PM

It'd be nice to have someone who's actually interested in music as apposed to themselves.

Posted by: Liаm 11th June 2015, 04:50 PM

The arena auditions start July 6th so we'll definitely have a confirmed panel before then biggrin.gif

I'm gonna guess Cheryl, Simon, Rita and Nick Grimshaw. I don't actually hate the latter but not keen on the idea of him as a judge, hmm... We'll see.

Posted by: 'Dan 11th June 2015, 05:24 PM

I think Nick Grimshaw would work better as the Xtra factor presenter than a judge, considering his career is a radio presenter I imagine that job would suit him better.

Posted by: LeeWallace 14th June 2015, 09:30 AM

According to reveal / heat / express / inside / the sun Rochelle Humes is the leading contender to be Xtra Factor host with other potentials being Brian Downling and Melvin Odoom.

Posted by: Jonjo 14th June 2015, 11:21 AM

Oh GOD NO! At any of those. Rochelle is so wooden. Brian Dowling is Brian Dowling (horrific) and I have no idea who Melvin Odoom is (so perhaps he's the better choice?)

I can see Rochelle getting this, if anything just for the X Factor press team to go on about the fact her husband works for The Voice. kink.gif

Posted by: LeeWallace 15th June 2015, 08:58 AM

It's funny that three of the judges from Sweat The Small Stuff could all be on the X Factor. Nick Grimshaw is such a poor choice.

I'm thinking the exact same, Sweat The Small stuff done rather poor ratings wise and they've basically stole the entire panel. I dislike how Nick Grimshaw is going to judge people on their singing ability yet he can't sing himself? I know Louis couldn't sing but at least he managed bands etc.

Like him or not (and personally I'm not a big fan) he's spent his entire career working for radio and music-oriented TV shows interviewing/constantly being around popstars and must have a good grasp of what it takes to be successful and the effective marketing of music acts. He doesn't claim to be a singer himself but has a certain amount of knowledge and I'd say could have a valuable perspective given the whole premise of the show.

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th June 2015, 03:41 PM

Yeah I agree that Nick is qualified to be a judge I think, he's certainly not some randomer. Ultimately, he's the person who'll be playing the contestants' singles if they work hard in the competition. However, I'm not sure how I'd feel about him on the panel. I'm willing to give him a shot but I find him quite irritating.

If we really aren't having Mel B (cry.gif), I'd be more than happy with Rita Ora taking the last spot, so hope those rumours are true!

Posted by: Liаm 15th June 2015, 03:44 PM

Yeah I ageee - qualified but not the best choice. I think it's good to have somebody from a different angle, we've had fellow singers and we've managers/record label execs. He's the type of person who, ultimately, is going to play the artists. But he is very irritating when I've seen him on other things so I'd have chosen someone like Sara Cox maybe.

Posted by: JosephStyles 15th June 2015, 03:49 PM

Or Jameela Jamil kink.gif

Posted by: liamk97 15th June 2015, 04:01 PM

Even though he's a radio DJ, I really don't associate Nick with music knowledge. He just seems to be someone in public eye who, if you don't listen to Radio 1, no-one really knows what he does. Tbf, I hadn't really thought about how he's interviewed singers and been around them pretty much all his career which is a good point and does hold its advantages, but idk, it still feels really odd thinking of the prospect of him being on the panel.

I actually love Nick Grimshaw so I'm pleased that he's been confirmed. Very intrigued about what he'll be like.

Don't mind Rita either so these choices aren't too bad, just wish Mel B would've kept on rather than Cheryl.

Posted by: Joe. 16th June 2015, 08:40 AM

I think Nick is a weird choice too. I mean, he's just lost 1 million listeners on the Radio 1 breakfast show? I know Nick is suppose to be 'part of the industry' and I being ditzy is part of Grimmy's radio 1 persona, but when I listen to his show I always feel like he comes across as the least 'clued in' of all the Radio 1 DJs when it comes to music. I feel like Scott Mills is a really knows his sh*t when it comes to pop music and Fearne always knew loads about alternative artists. Greg also often seems quite ahead of time with music too.

I don't understand why they got rid of Mel B? I thought she went down a lot better than Cheryl last year?

Posted by: ThePensmith 16th June 2015, 08:59 AM

Let's not forget here, Neil Fox (Pepsi Chart, Capital Radio) was a judge on Pop Idol. Irritating though I can find Grimmy at times he's an original choice for the panel. I reckon he'd be quite a good judge anyway.

Rita though *shudders*.

I don't get why people hate on Nick Grimshaw so much, some people (especially on DS) act like Nick has hurt them personally. I'm going to watch with an open mind about the judging panel and see if they are any good.

Xtra Factor presenters to be revealed imminently and Rochelle Humes has just followed X Factor on Twitter, so I'm guessing she's near enough confirmed. Whether it's Marvin or Rickie/Melvin, I can't say I'm particularly happy about either. I find Rochelle wooden and false presenting-wise anyway, Marvin is even more robotic and they're pretty cringy as a couple hosting on This Morning. Rickie & Melvin on the other hand, not wooden, but extremely annoying but they do seem more suited to a job like this.

Rochelle seems like a competent presenter based on the little I've seen but, in fairness, I think that's only ever been alongside her husband who's a complete charisma vacuum onscreen so she may have just seemed good in comparison. happy.gif

That's a big shame, I went to the auditions last year and I'd definitely recommend it, a fantastic experience!

First official picture of the new judging line up (and Olly and Caroline):

Olly's there on his own today as Caroline's off filming Love Island...Rita likewise is otherwise indisposed with a commitment in Paris (which prompted my dad to say to me yesterday 'That wot Rita Ora's been sacked!' I wish).

I can't help but feel Rita is going to look out of place as this goes on.

Went yesterday. I'm very game for Grimmy as a judge.

The two shows I attended, I adored Rita as a judge! There is a disconnect as a four. It's very Cheryl & Simon, Rita & Grimmy.

Oh and I think the winner was there last night as the acts were v. good.

Posted by: ThePensmith 24th July 2015, 12:16 PM

Apparently the rumours of a live broadcast of judge's houses with Olly and Caroline in a central hub back home in the UK are true according to a few of today's papers. Wherever they do judge's houses will surely all need to be on the same time zone for that to happen though, which makes you wonder how they'll manage that?

Posted by: T Boy 24th July 2015, 12:40 PM

Apart from showing off and also making the show slightly differ from Pop Idol, what exactly is the point of dragging everyone to a house the judges only live in for that week?

Not necessarily, I expect they'll say it's "HARDCORE JUDGES' HOUSES!!1!1!" and it'll be the biggest challenge of their life performing in the early hours of the morning abroad laugh.gif

Probably therefore no different to Brits on holiday in Malia or somewhere doing drunk karaoke at 2am biggrin.gif

Posted by: Martyn 24th July 2015, 02:34 PM

The performances for the judges will be pre-recorded it is just the reveal that is going to be live. TBF there are plenty of beautiful places in a similar time zones to the UK they can go. E.g Spain, Sweden, Iceland and I suppose they could use the East coast of the USA for it as well.

Posted by: JosephStyles 24th July 2015, 02:39 PM

Who says they have to do it in the same timezone anyway?

Posted by: Robot 24th July 2015, 02:51 PM

Yeah, I mean, if it's drastically different, it'll be difficult for the contestants but there's plenty of places that are at least close in time zone that would stop it being ridiculous.

Why the timezone would kind of matter, I'd have thought, is because it's often done outside and it wouldn't really look very picture-esque, nor be easy to film, if it was dark outside.

Posted by: Calum Hood 24th July 2015, 03:02 PM

For places like, say, New York or Las Vegas, where the whole city's practically illuminated at night, it would look a lot better on camera than it would in the daytime.

I'm kind of glad it's live though, for all the problems associated with it the big thing for me is we won't have spoilers of the final 12/16! I know you don't have to look at spoilers but I can never help myself, I end up seeing them and when they're a click away I just have a peek drama.gif It'll be much more exciting to have the results as a surprise. The spoilers are never 100% accurate but usually you more or less know the top 12/16 from them, maybe with one or two unexpected finalists.

That seems a bit late for that. I suppose if they are doing "live" judges houses (results) then they want to leave it as late as possible. The 1st and 2nd is a tuesday and a wednesday... When do we think the first live show will be?

Posted by: ThePensmith 27th July 2015, 09:06 AM

I'm sure this is one audition that will end up being talked about, but apparently a Coventry based singer-songwriter by the name of Ben Clark at the London auditions last week got a bit of a rough time from Cheryl: http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/local-news/x-factor-hopeful-hits-wrong-9731051

Of course we'll have to wait and see what he sung for his actual audition to warrant such comments but it's a little bit rude of her to compare an auditionee automatically to a winner that's only had one single out, let alone his first album.

If these are true as well my predictions for categories are:

Rita - Boys
Nick - Overs
Cheryl - Girls or Groups
Simon - Girls of Groups

Undecided on the last two, it could go either way but definitely would like Cheryl take the groups.

Posted by: Martyn 29th July 2015, 03:10 PM

Are they really going to give Cheryl a category that isn't the boys or girls though? Although apparently the groups are strongest this year so maybe her years of being in a group will be put to use.

Another big 'it's a fix' type stink is trying to be kicked up by the tabloids today...namely in light of the fact Louise Labelle (who was one of the new backing vocalists on Olly's most recent arena tour) auditioned this year and is at boot camp.

I do love in this country that Joe Public make such a ruckus about certain contestants who enter shows like this or 'The Voice' and are constantly reminded of their singing pasts prior to entering the show like they've just committed some awful crime - Esmee Denters on the last series of 'The Voice' was a prime example of this.

Exactly. I for one think that is exactly what the show needs to be these days. It's lost any pretense of being about finding the next singing superstar, if it happens it will be a happy accident but even if you win now it's moderate success at best. It's first and foremost entertainment now and that trailer is highlighting that and doing so very well at that.

Yeah the tone is perfect I think. I don't think it's totally out of the question that they'll still find moderately successful acts but with the way they handle winners lately I'm not expecting any "success" for the winner beyond James Arthur's level! We watch it and get invested but there's really no point in them pretending they're going to find the next Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift, because they're not and I hate when reality shows act like they will!

Posted by: J▼hnkm 5th August 2015, 04:42 PM

TBH, I can easily be detached right now because the last winner I loved was Little Mix, which feels like the last time the series was TRULY a vehicle to find a popstar.

I'd imagine they wouldn't do that due to the running order also being dependent on logistics like stage set-ups as well as the need for the spacing out of different types of performance throughout the show, but I may be wrong. tongue.gif

I like the change they've made anyway. I bet Louis wishes it had come into effect back in his day as he'd have less chance of getting the groups or overs again. laugh.gif

Posted by: Liаm 24th August 2015, 08:27 PM

Yeah that idea sounds good, it should make that part of the show more exciting! Usually by the end of the auditions when you can tel which category is strongest and then you know that category will be Cheryl's or Simon's laugh.gif Plus there won't be leaks I assume, because we'll decide anyway, which is a plus as I can never seem to avoid spoilers!

I'd really like for Cheryl to have the Groups this year, but I can only really see her ending up with the Girls if it's down to a Twitter vote.

I really hope Cheryl finally gets the Groups. It would be typical if she got the Girls for a fourth time! drama.gif

Posted by: Dobbo 24th August 2015, 08:46 PM

Ought to be:

Cheryl - Groups
Simon - Overs
Rita - Girls
Nick - Boys

Posted by: Robot 24th August 2015, 08:52 PM

Has Simon ever had the girls before? That'd be interesting, they always seem to get a hard time but as proved with Fleur, he's good at essentially PR'ing people so they seem more likeable and supportable.

Cheryl- Groups
Simon- Girls
Nick- Boys
Rita- Overs

I just dumped Rita with overs as I really want the other 3 to get those categories. Cheryl because she was in a group, Simon for the reasons Rob stated above and Nick for boys cause I think he'll do a good job!

It was technically classed as "16s-24s" back then though so he's still yet to have a fully female category to mentor.

Not that it really matters when noms only count during the Saturday show kink.gif

It seems like some people want Cheryl to have the groups just for the sake of it, but for what it's worth I think she'd be good with that category so wouldn't mind her getting it. I think she could carry on Simon's work with the overs too and keep it a current and exciting category, so I don't really mind what she ends up with. Nice to see it being wide open this year!

That hair! sad.gif That dress! sad.gif

Long gone are the days of Cannes 2012.

Also, she's free to do as she wants and lose whatever weight she wants but being this skinny doesn't suit her at all.

Heartbreaking to see Cheryl upstaged by Rota Ora.

Cheryl isn't doing it for me much lately. sad.gif Rita just oozes sex tbh.

Posted by: ThePensmith 25th August 2015, 05:10 PM

The promo shots are cool. Simon looks a bit more relaxed now, don't you think? Maybe it's being a dad that's done it to him but he seems a lot less like WE MUST FIND THE NEXT LEONA/1D KTHANX. Obviously he always will have that about him, that's part of the show, but it doesn't look like it consumes his every thought and as I've mentioned already, this series feels like it'll be a fun series again.

I'm loving the idea of us choosing the categories, it mixes things up without being all OHMIGOD TWIST like in previous and especially recent series. I think Cheryl would be perfect to do the groups this year. I remember in her first year on the show she really wanted the groups cause of JLS so it'll be nice for her to get them cause obviously being in GA she had more than enough experience and advice to offer.

Oh that's not been disrupted as much as I expected but ugh at the reduced live shows, meaning more double eliminations I presume?

Posted by: Danvicii 26th August 2015, 10:14 PM

more weeks of buildup than actual live shows drama.gif does the bootcamp/6 chair challenge really have to be dragged out that long anyway?

still looking forward to it as always

Posted by: Scherz 26th August 2015, 10:19 PM

Wow, the live shows are starting super late! They usually have a Halloween themed week a few weeks into the lives! ohmy.gif

I'm sorry if it's already been asked (and we probably don't know) but do we know yet how it will play out with the winners single?
I'm assuming it'll be released the Friday after the Sunday show to be in contention for Christmas #1 or will it be the week before?

Posted by: Martyn 26th August 2015, 10:25 PM

Wow that is a late start.

Posted by: Vülker 26th August 2015, 10:27 PM

They'll probably release each finalist's version of the winner's single on the Friday before the final and whoever's #1 wins.

Posted by: Ryan. 26th August 2015, 10:33 PM

It's a shame about the reduced number of live shows, but I am pleased that normal Bootcamp and the Six Chair Challenge are going to be getting more time this year!

Posted by: Calum Hood 26th August 2015, 10:36 PM

Three episodes of the 6 chair challenge to allow for Cheryl's 100 hours of indecisiveness to be broadcast x

A shame about the reduced number of live shows, but I'm guessing, minus the first week, if they stick to the standard 12 contestants, there'd be a double elimination every week which keeps it exciting!

Posted by: Vülker 26th August 2015, 10:41 PM

Or each judge puts through 4 acts in their category only to cut two out in the first episode as a **TWIST** leaving only 8 acts competing in Week 2 but the ditched acts are put to a live vote for ONE to comeback to the competition as a wildcard at the start of Week 2's episode.

I'm dizzy.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 26th August 2015, 11:11 PM

To be honest, less live shows doesn't seem like a bad thing to me, they always take FOREVER in the first few weeks, so if we accelerate that a bit then yay.

Posted by: Jonjo 26th August 2015, 11:33 PM

I quite like that amount of live shows, however, I'd just wish they'd get rid of Bootcamp (or cut it down to one episode). By far the most boring and uninteresting part of the whole show.

I love the six chair challenge though, so that doesn't bother me but how will all four get split over 3 episodes? 1hr 30mins each category?

Posted by: Vülker 26th August 2015, 11:34 PM

Actually, now that I think it over they might try and go for something closer to The Voice and eliminate one act in each category during the first two live shows. 8 acts left competing in Week 3 with a double elimination shock lurking in the shadows.

It would make sense as they're dragging out Bootcamp and the Six Chair Challenge, making us more emotionally attached to the acts before they get on that stage.

Posted by: Taylor Jago 27th August 2015, 01:16 AM

Something interesting would be a vote to save and a vote to eliminate, possibly in the first week, and the four people with the highest percentage of votes to eliminate are out. Then we can have single eliminations for the rest of the shows. Oh, and I really hope that from when there are five contestants left the act with the lowest votes is eliminated directly.

Anyway, if things went according to my proposed twist, the number of people in each week would look like this:

Week 1: 12 acts
Week 2: 8 acts
Week 3: 7 acts
Week 4: 6 acts
Week 5: 5 acts
Week 6 (semi-final): 4 acts
Week 7 (Final): 3 acts

Posted by: J▼hnkm 27th August 2015, 07:48 AM

I think it's likely to go:

Week 1: 12 acts
Week 2: 10 acts
Week 3: 8 acts
Week 4: 7 acts
Week 5: 6 acts
Week 6 (semi-final): 5 acts (one leaving on Saturday, maybe as part of a #twitter vote again or something like that and one on Sunday)
Week 7 (Final): 3 acts

or something, either way I don't think we'll lose an act from each category in the first week

Posted by: Mart!n 27th August 2015, 09:45 AM

The lineup looks better, the six chair challenge is a bit dragged out. Its a shame about the live shows been stripped down, less live music guests. I reckon 2 acts will go each weekend, one on Saturday, and the other Sunday. Until there are 6 acts left or so, with 1 going out each week.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 27th August 2015, 12:27 PM

They COULD just remove 5 minutes of padding from the Sunday show and still have 2 guests every week, or even THREE given half the show consists of nothing of any consequence whatsoever.

It wouldn't be so bad if Beyonce and Celine were used each live show when they have full control of the song choice.

She was ok but I think her voice wasn't strong enough to carry the song off and the inserted whatever you call that bit saved it.

I don't really like Louisa's tone actually. Good voice but nowhere near as good as they're making her out to be and needs work.

Andrea's audition with that song >>>>>>>>

"Footprints In The Sand" too. happy.gif

She has a great voice, but I think it would've better had she shown a little restraint.

Great first episode! Grimmy and Rita do work well, more than I expected them to. 4th Power are so cute and AMAZING performance from them. I can see them going far. Likewise Jennifer - I love that she did Mary Mary 'Shackles' as well, that's one of my favourite songs. Techno Susan was hilarious as well, I want some of her energy when I'm 60 please biggrin.gif

It was really sad to see Jon get four no's, especially seeing Olly's reaction cause you could see how much he was rooting for him and it shows what a heart of gold he has. sad.gif But they were absolutely right to not put him through - he can sing but he needs that confidence in himself as a performer because he looked like a rabbit in headlights.

He could easily come back next year if he uses the time wisely to build his confidence and I think he should. It took Olly three years on the trot of trying out for X Factor, even Alexandra Burke did it twice and she won the thing.

Oh and Olly and Caroline - PERFECT wub.gif

I wouldn't bother it was pretty awful, awful presenters and only 5 auditions and they were all naff and silly stuff, seriously why do they bother. I'm just sticking to the main show each week, until the lives kick off. And I stopped watching the Xtra Factor last year after a few episodes. I just miss Louie's Limericks sob.gif

But it did drop to those kind of levels fairly quickly last year anyway. Maybe it'll just be more stable this year.

Posted by: sammy01 30th August 2015, 12:25 PM

Well it is at 7.5m already and Strictly isn't cutting into its audience yet, doesn't look good.

Posted by: KWEEN_DEE 30th August 2015, 01:21 PM

I was at Louisa's audition. So good. Same with Olly's ex band member. That was just super awkward.

Posted by: Martyn 30th August 2015, 01:25 PM

I would compare this weeks audition with the bank holiday ratings last year as it is nearly always lower figures.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 30th August 2015, 02:03 PM

If it settles into a ~7 million (overnight) average it'll be fine. We all know it's not a juggernaut anymore. Plus this year I would wager even with TWO host it's cheaper on talent costs purely because Rita/Nick/Caroline/Olly don't have much negotiating POWER in terms of bagging £££ compared with Louis, Sharon, Mel etc.

it didn't take long for the first X Factor scandal to happen...

QUOTE(http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/x-factor-phoney-claims-girl-6348346)
Four Filipino sisters who stole the show when The X Factor returned tonight looked like nervous amateurs – but viewers will be surprised to learn they are pro singers.

And show producers who drafted in the slick girl band Fourth Power knew all about their professional background in the Far East.

All contestants are supposed be wannabe beginners but these girls are seasoned performers who have been on TV and even released records available to buy on Amazon.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 30th August 2015, 02:10 PM

Well, it's hardly the first time it's happened. I love that even at it's nadir it's still able to drive ridiculous headlines.

Posted by: SexySummerFruits 30th August 2015, 02:50 PM

Does anybody still watch this? laugh.gif

The last good season was Alexandra vs Diana V! No wait, Cher Lloyd and moral winner Wagner season was good for all the wrong reasons.

Fix Factor is awful manipulates headlines to get people to vote for who the produce es want. Chris Maloney was winning until they pumped oot all those stories.

All y'all Spice fans should boycott it foe their Rita over Mel B fiasco.

Jesus CHRIST that kid who sang Adele was absolutely terrible. Like on a Jay James level! I had to mute it. He'll be in the live shows then drama.gif

4th Power were epic though wub.gif Such power and sass and there are SO cute laugh.gif Who cares if they've been trained? I'm pretty sure people who've studied music for example, and loads of them will have had singing lessons etc. I'd much rather have someone who's trained a bit and is as good as them compared to some of these "I only sing in my room lol xxx" types who are awful. They KILLED it, probably the best rendition of that song I've heard to date.

Loved Louisa too, I can see her maybe going far for sure <3 What a voice.

The show was quite good overall I thought, it 's obviously past its best but it's good Saturday night (or Sunday afternoon for me tongue.gif) entertainment. The song changing trope did get boring though, just let them sing what they want. It's especially irritating when someone isn't allowed to sing Whitney or Celine for example and yet the most overused song in XF history (Make You Feel My Love) is allowed every time :/ I really like Rita already too, she was quite refreshing. She was nice enough but also honest when she needed to be. I'll still need convincing over Grimmy though...

Posted by: JosephBieber 30th August 2015, 04:56 PM

Oh I like how they asked them to change the songs actually! it was so refreshing to see Jennifer perform Shackles rather than Halo, it's good to see them encouraging variety. Make You Feel My Love is a bore each time though, that shouldn't have been let through drama.gif

Posted by: Froot. 30th August 2015, 04:59 PM

From what I saw last night, basically the first half, it was the best audition show I've seen in years and that's mostly down to Louis no longer being there really. He was just a huge waste of a space on the panel. It's also helped that they've dropped the TOWIE elements a lot more too and they're having a lot more fun with some slightly more original song choices even if some slipped through the net. That guy who sang Adele though must have been asked by producers to audition after the viral Jessie J video.

I don't like the idea of the auditionees being able to have dancers etc on stage though. The first audition should be to show that they can command the stage by themselves. The guy who sang Justin Bieber with all those dancers behind him surely wouldn't have got as many positive comments if the dancers weren't there. It was a pretty average performance if you take them away and suggested to me he had to hide behind them in order to stand out.

Posted by: J▼hnkm 30th August 2015, 05:02 PM

If they were making them change to encourage variety than great, but it was making them change because they didn't like/didn't want to hear a certain type of song that makes it awful. I agree that Shackles was a great choice for her, so tell her BEFORE she goes on stage. They obviously already KNOW given they have all the tracks set up and stuff.

Posted by: SexySummerFruits 30th August 2015, 05:04 PM

Hmm but it IS the X Factor and as Bowie McCartney etc Have said guys like them would not Have got through on voice alone in these contesta and they're the biggest stars ever.

I went to the auditions when he auditioned and it did sound slightly better in the arena, but he was incredibly boring. The crowd absolutely loved him though. And the judges and him and the longest conversation about his Jessie J cover (which conveniently wasn't shown on TV). zzz.gif

Posted by: Scene 30th August 2015, 05:28 PM

This is already shaping up to be a better series than the last three. The talent is looking very promising! 4th Power are definitely my favourites so far. It's refreshing to see XF actually embrace more original acts for a change. I feel 4th Power would absolutely nail 'Lady Marmalade'. As for that Tom Bleasby guy, he really needs to stop imitating Jessie J's over-singing. That was an excruciating performance to sit through.

Posted by: Common Sense 30th August 2015, 05:33 PM

I'm annoyed. Someone please tell the judges that it's supposed to be a SINGING competition. rolleyes.gif Olly's mate could sing, but not brilliantly, yet didn't get through yet the 60 year old woman on first couldn't sing, was like a novelty act, yet she had personality and so she went through. Couldn't tell a word the Filipino lasses were singing either! wacko.gif What was their song called?

You do realise that was completely staged? The big criticism of the X factor recently has been the same songs every year by Whitney and co. Then low and behold they tell the first good contestant to not sing Whitney (even going as far to have the first contestant naming 2 Whitney songs she wanted to do). This makes it seem like they are sick of the Whitney songs and having them year in year out wasn't their choice. Which is a bit much when they have Whitney week and ballad week and they pick the live song choices which are all these songs over and over. Just to ram the point home they did it twice, this time with Beyonce as the 'oh not one of her songs again'.

The only good thing about it is they seem to have cottoned on to people being bored to death of these songs so hopefully that will mean we will get less of them for the lives but as always with X factor it has to be done underhand and made to look like it is all the contestants fault.

Posted by: Common Sense 30th August 2015, 05:38 PM

I think Whitney songs must be quite hard to sing, to get the high notes so are quite a challenge actually.

Posted by: Jonjo 30th August 2015, 05:39 PM

I really enjoyed this episode! Really strong start I think. 4th Power were great, a bit TOO grunty and shouty in places, but they performed the crap out of it! wub.gif

Tom Bleasby was technically good, but such a boring voice. I liked his Smule duet with Jessie J, but his voice irked me as he had no control over his voice whatsoever. This audition wasn't different either. Jennifer was very good too! Louisa was my favourite by quite a way (and I HATE that song in a "Typical X Factor Audition Song" sort of way - so over done now - which makes the whole judges changing song thing ridiculous). She oddly reminds me of Kelly Clarkson and it wouldn't surprise me if she went a similar route to the start of her career. Sang powerful and soulful songs all through the show, whilst showing versatility and has a very mediocre debut, but smashes it with stuff that really suit her voice and gives us the pop/rock album of the new generation! *.* (Fantasy world!)

Onto the judges. I have nothing negative to say this year tbh. They all worked brilliantly together and the chemistry between the four of them was great to see! Carolly were also a breath of fresh air.

So far, I'm pro-2015 XF! Looking forward to the rest of the season.

Great post. I also loved Nick miming to 'Sound of the Underground'. laugh.gif I've been wanting Louis gone for years and now that he's gone, the show is much better for it.

I think this year will see a Group or a Girl win. A series as rich in quality and versatility as the likes of 2008 and 2011 would be very welcome. The Overs have triumphed two years in a row and the Boys category has always been weak with certain contestants getting further than they should have done so either of those categories winning wouldn't make the show look fresh and revamped.

Why would he be ashamed of it in 5 years? He IS an individual because he went out there, in a huge stage, dressed in a way that isn't "normal" and gave it his all. I doubt anyone looking back would be ashamed at that great perf and reaction.

Well he might wear skirt and boots, I am sure if he wanted to he would.

Good audition, been the last act on the show, he was bound to go through to the next stage though.

Posted by: Martyn 30th August 2015, 07:59 PM

That was so contrived, classic X Factor.

What was Cheryl blabbering on about at the end? Should I stay or go?

Posted by: sammy01 30th August 2015, 08:00 PM

Oh Cheryl always has to make it about her and her big heart.

Posted by: Hayzayy 30th August 2015, 08:00 PM

This episode was fantastic, the show has never been this good and entertaining !

And that very last audition was so emotional. God I love X Factor all over again.

The last guy was good but I agree that the sob story was a bit much. In fact when they push the sob story I feel less emotional than I normally would laugh.gif But he did so well with that song, I don't like the original at all but he really took it and made it great.

Because he'll cringe at himself in 5 years time. Rita just feeding into it 'You are so individual' why? Because he dressed weird, wasn't he just the same as every other person who goes on there, wanting to be famous, putting passion into it etc.

He had a decent voice, not amazing, not terrible.

What a ridiculous thing to say, to dress like that you have to be incredibly confident and sure of yourself, which he is. He chose to dress like that, probably as part of drag or gay culture. That's his choice, nobody else's, it doesn't harm anyone. What it does do is give him originality, which made him stand out even mroe than he already did with such a knockout voice.

What the f*** are you on? Have you never been in the same situation when a friend breaks down and you don't know what to do or not do to help him? You can hate hate Cheryl all you want but there was nothing in this moment that was to blame.

Nice voice and good audition, but can't see him holding up too well in the competition.
Exactly how I felt. He's gonna be talked about more for his story than his actual performance, imo. It wouldn't surprise me if he was the token "oh, he was disappointing" in bootcamp. He's got a good voice though, would be interesting to see if he'll show off some versatility with it.

EDIT: I think we're in for a great year this year, if the first two episodes are to go by!

That still doesn't mean he should be ashamed nor is it cringe worthy. Most people don't wear what they would for a night out to work either, doesn't make it weird.

My point is the guy after did exactly the same thing, sang an emotional song to him with passion, he wasn't called individual. Maybe I'm old but being an individual isn't about dressing a certain way and it is cringe to me Rita fed into it by calling him individual.

It is like him walking out there on stilts and being called individual for it.

Individuality DOES include the way you look. You're in this thread complaining about the same things happen and now you're complaining about individuality... Please tone down the negativity and cynicism because all of it is bringing down the thread for other members, or I'll just probably end up deleting offending posts before people have a chance to react and the thread gets ruined by petty arguments.

It seemed pretty real to me tbh. Simon was clearly upset as it must've brought up thoughts about his late mother (who died around a week before that was filmed) and Cheryl was wondering if she should go up and comfort him or leave him alone.

Exactly. Tbh, I think it was the least contrived XF has been.

Fashion icon Rita Ora knows the tea, individuality is crucial for a long-term career in the industry

Sammy01 is getting a lot of heat on here tonight laugh.gif, the guy who sang Labrinth's Jealous did a really good job imo. My favourite performance of the weekend was the Mary Mary performance.

Sean was the best one so far. Who cares what he's wearing if you sound that good? he seems really nice too.

Well, he wasn't called individual because he looked and acted like any random person off the street. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but if a guy turning up to anywhere dressed as he was isn't individual, then I feel like the word needs to be redefined.

Really loving the judges this year. As much as I miss Mel, they all work well together and I don't miss Louis at all, Nick's certainly a vast improvement.

That last audition was really emotional - the story behind it, and Simon's whole reaction was really heartfelt. Cheryl's however did feel somewhat contrived.

I really want Rita to collab with Cheryl on a single and have them perform it at the live shows heart.gif
