Note: The compilations I choose to enter in my personal album chart are there to represent that I listened to & enjoyed a particular artist's singles in any given week. I'm not only listening to the selection of songs that are included on the above album's track lists though (for instance 'The Best of Kylie Minogue' is a 21 track album, and obviously her singles discography is far larger than that selection). In my chart, 'The Best of Kylie Minogue' actually represents all of her singles discography. The same applies to other artists, unless of course their album actually does include all of their hits anyway.

Kylie's compilation managed 5 weeks at #1 in my personal albums chart, back in March/April! Her triumphant return with the 'Golden' studio album prompted me to listen repeatedly to her old hits, some of which I even found a new appreciation for (notably 'Breathe'). The album re-entered thanks to the 'Golden' tour in September, which I went to see in Nottingham! *.*

One of the rules of my EOY Top 200 Singles chart is that only songs that charted within the last 2 years are eligible, i.e. 2017 & 2018. Any songs from prior to that are moved to my Retro chart! A notable reason for this is to avoid the Christmas classics being inside my EOY chart each year. kink.gif

Predictably it is Mariah Carey's 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' that leads the way in my Retro chart, managing a 2018 high of #2 in my personal chart and 208 points. Since its first appearance in my chart way back in 2005 it has amassed 2,188 points (certified 2xDiamond!). I could ever tire of this festive classic. wub.gif

The highest placed non-Christmas song is 'Work Bitch' by Britney Spears! Its appearance on my chart this year was thanks to seeing her in concert back in August 2018. *.* Gimme More, Make Me... and Womanizer also make my Retro Top 20.

Entries from Rita Ora & Kylie Minogue are also thanks to the "tour effect", but this doesn't explain 'Dancing on My Own' re-entering my chart - that was thanks to Robyn's comeback with 'Missing U', the first song from her long awaited album 'Honey'.

It's rather late to be starting my EOY 2018 Songs count down, but here we go! laugh.gif

190 & 196. A couple of Nick Jonas songs sneak in my EOY Top 200: Anywhere (with Mustard) & Right Now (with Robin Schulz). Both are decent, but they're far from being highlights of his career. Nick's most successful year in my chart was in 2015, when his #1 hit Jealous ended 4th in my EOY! I do wonder whether Nick will have the opportunity to release another album, given that it's been three years since he last achieved a big hit (with Close). It seems he may be focusing more on his film career; he has three films currently in post-production.

186 & 191. Notably two #1 hits from 2017 by Steps feature in this first section. Neon Blue & Scared of the Dark re-entered my personal chart in June 2018 after I saw them live at their Summer of Steps tour in Llanelli, South Wales! Both huge pop songs that I absolutely adore, imo they sit comfortably amongst their 90s/00s classics.

177 & 178. Back to You by Selena Gomez under-performed in my personal chart, only peaking at #22! It's a nice enough song but I find it pretty nondescript... she's capable of better! A song I do consider as being much better, Wolves, ends up 1 place higher in my EOY despite being a 2017 hit.

176 & 198. James Arthur started his career with a Top 5 hit (Impossible, #5 in December 2012, his X Factor winners single), and it took him 6 years to score another Top 20! Funnily enough this was with another X Factor winners single - The Power of Love by Dalton Harries, on which James is his duet partner. It managed to peak at #20. This wasn't James' only hit of the year - Empty Space stayed in my Top 40 for an impressive 7 weeks (despite only peaking at #26).

Copy/Paste List:

176. James Arthur - Empty Space

My biggest highlights so far are 'Tongue' and 'Be The One' wub.gif it's such a shame that MNEK's latest era went pretty pear shaped (those album sales </3) but I'll always be grateful that we got 'Tongue' out of it, what a tune <3 and it was such a moment to see 'Be The One' finally taking off in the chart after not doing much when it was originally released! If only my favourite song of hers, 'Last Dance', also got a re-release. 'Be The One' is a huge Dua highlight anyway, one of her 10/10s heart.gif

Hi Jay

You finally started to post your top 200 list. ohmy.gif
Good to see you're not one of Buzzjackers James Arthur and Anne-Marie haters. dance.gif I just hope their version of Rewrite The Stars is top 175.
Dua Lipa and Demi Lovato are pop queens of course. tongue.gif

I really like Tongue, that drop/his mini-rap in the chorus is just absolutely amazing, a real earworm! Right Now was another song that caught my attention, I'm not a massive Nick Jonas fan but I did like this one!

Hi Jade! It is a pity about MNEK, missing the Top 100 was tragic D: I really liked Tongue (and Colour), both deserved to at least do something... sigh!

Be the One completely passed me by during its original release #fakefan (!) but I'm so glad she re-released it because it really deserved a moment of success! Completely agree about Last Dance, could have been huge after IDGAF (if i remember rightly you don't like IDGAF, so I guess you'd have preferred Last Dance re-release instead of that kink.gif )

Thanks for replying heart.gif!

[13-18-28-xx]

153, 157 & 175. Three Charli XCX songs appear in this section! The lowest peaking of the three - Out of My Head, #19 in my personal chart - has ended up placing higher in my EOY than the #10 hit Girls Night Out and #13 No Angel! However, Girls Night Out is my favourite of the three. My EOY is based on chart points, which sometimes results in an order which doesn't quite reflect how I feel (but I'd rather use my personal charts points system to get a list rather than try and come up with it from scratch #lazy kink.gif ). Out of My Head benefited from a slower turnover of new hits early in 2018 which resulted in it staying in my Top 20 for three weeks. There's still another three Charli XCX songs to be revealed later in this countdown - she had a busy 2018!

159 & 168. Camila Cabello had a hugely successful 2017 in my chart, most notably reaching #1 with the incredible Havana. 2018 got off to a great start with Never Be The Same and the release of her debut album, but subsequent singles failed to make quite as much impact. Real Friends (feat. Swae Lee) flopped, only reaching #40 in my personal chart, however Consequences fared better - peaking at #16 and ending up at #168 in my EOY. It's a pretty song, but quite why Camila & her label slept on 'She Loves Control' is beyond me! I'm sure that would have been a huge hit in my chart had she opted to release it as a single (I tend to avoid including album-only songs in my personal chart). Her duet with Bazzi (Beautiful) also managed a Top 20 peak of #14.

166. Lonely Together was a huge hit for Rita Ora and the late Avicii in 2017. I went to see Rita on tour in May 2018 (she was fantastic *.*), and this prompted the song to reenter my chart at #16. Her eventual album release (Phoenix, stream it now on Spotify x) saw it reenter my chart once again, at #23. This pushed Lonely Together over 600 chart points, earning it a Platinum certification! It probably goes without saying, but there's still many more songs to come from Rita in my EOY. heart.gif

126. I saw Colour by MNEK feat. Hailee Steinfeld performed live at Katy Perry's Witness tour; Hailee was Katy's support act and brought MNEK on stage with her! You might assume from its chart run that its first week in the Top 20 was the result of that performance, but it actually fell from #28 to #33! laugh.gif The fall can be explained due to there being 11 Katy Perry re-entries above it in that week. Those fell away the week after, which resulted in Colour climbing & managing a three week stay in my Top 20, peaking at #17. Colour is a pleasant bop & deserved more than its #92 peak in the UK chart.

127. I actually love All for You, and this EOY placement & its personal chart peak/chart run really don't reflect that! The problem here is that I really burned the song out during the release of Years & Years' Palo Santo album. By the time it became a single a couple of months later, it couldn't quite contend with fresher hits in my chart and ended up going no higher than #16. sad.gif A bit of a shame!

128. Former Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle returned to the music scene in 2017 with the irresistible pop moment that is Go To Work. What followed in 2018 was the release of her self-titled EP, which included four new songs - all of which entered my personal chart! The lowest placed song is Gossip, a slow paced moody number that Nadine herself described as being "laid back and reflective".

129. 2002 isn't Anne-Marie's finest moment (for me that would be Rockabye) but I couldn't deny how catchy 2002 is. The nostalgic slice of pop peaked at #13 in my chart. You may notice that its personal chart run is a little odd, with it leaving my chart at #19 before eventually re-entering in the 30s region. The sudden drop out was because my 18th May chart was full of Rita Ora re-entries (after seeing her on tour, 14 songs re-entered) & Eurovision songs, resulting in over half of the songs from the previous week's chart falling away!

142. I slept on Gwen Stefani's Christmas era in 2017 until the week leading up to Christmas itself! You Make It Feel Like Christmas (the song), a duet with her husband Blake Shelton. entered my personal chart at #16, but immediately fell out the week after due to Christmas being over. If only I'd listened sooner - I love it! It fared far better in 2018, reaching a brand new peak of #6 - while the album of the same name reached #1.

148. Despite glowing praise from Joseph, I was initially quite closed off to Why Don't We. I gave them a go, but my first impression of Hooked was finding it annoying (oops). Joseph persevered, and I eventually agreed to give their 8 Letters album a try. I liked it far more than I thought I would, and my highlight of the album was its title track - 8 Letters! It managed a peak of #12, making it their biggest hit to date (their previous single Talk managed #36).
