04. Ciara feat. Missy Elliott - Work (50.00%, 13 votes) So in 2009, back in a time when everyone and their cat didn't have a song named something very similar, Ciara unleashed the mammoth 'Work' on us all. The song was her second collaborative effort with the ever wonderful Missy Elliott and was released as the third single from the 'Fantasy Ride' era. It certainly isn't a song that holds the idea of musical subtlety high in it's estimations; it is brash and unapologetic in its energy, and it is all the better for it. The mantra-like chorus, the fantasticly quotable verse from Missy, all set off with an instrumental that just calls for you to get to the dancefloor as quickly as possible. On top of all that, the construction site video (hi 5H) remains one of her best videos to date; kudos Ciara. Despite 'Work' becoming a fan favourite almost instantly, it didn't quite manage to hang on the coat-tails of the previous single ('Love Sex Magic') and become a hit, peaking at a disappointing #52 on the UK Singles Chart and failing to even make an appearance over on Billboard. Despite that, it would appear the song still remains immensely popular (at least on the forums), coming 4th on here and placing as 2nd only to Kelly Rowland in the recent 'Work Rate' over in the Pop Forum. As much as it kills me I had to go with 'Goodies' this time.
'Like a Boy' and '1,2 Step' have always been my Ciara top 2 so I would love to see it happen but somehow I doubt I will get my way. All three tracks are absolute 10/10's though. |
