On the singles chart, could it be a ninth week at #1 for The Weeknd, or will Michael Ball/Captain Tom Moore/Voices of Care Choir's cover of You'll Never Walk Alone hit the top spot? Sam Smith & Demi Lovato drop their new collab I'm Ready, and there's new tracks from Playboi Carti, Tiesto/Becky Hill, Joji and Jamie xx
Gerry Cinnamon looks set for a #1 debut with second album The Bonny. New releases include Enter Shikari's sixth LP Nothing Is True & Everything Is Possible, Fiona Apple's return after eight years with Fetch the Bolt Cutters, DaBaby's BLAME IT ON BABY, plus albums from Nafe Smallz, EOB, dvsn and Rina Sawayama

YNWA has to be #1 this week. Can see Blinding Lights returning to #1 for a 4th time the week after.
It's gonna be interesting to see how well Michael can hold up through the week. He'll obviously be #1 today and most of the start of the week, but if the hype dies down and streaming picks up they could loose it
I think the Big Night In on Thursday night will help them over the line.
I still think The Weeknd will get it in the end, The Big Night In is on from 8:05 to 10:00pm a couple of hours before the cut off point of midnight might not be enough.
Edit that... One World is on tonight, didn't realise, could swing it towards YNWA
I think Michael & Captain Tom will get it - especially if they are #1 in the first set of mids then media will be all over it.
How much of an effect could One World have in the charts this week?
5 mins to go!
Rooting for the literal legend that is Captain Tom Moore this week! Hope he gets that #1!
20 Vera Lynn & Katherine Jenkins - We'll Meet Again
19 Little Mix - Break Up Song
Vera Lynn was of course in the very first Official Chart in 1952, quite remarkable to see her in today's top 20 update!
Vera Lynn Top 20 - we love to see it!
Little Mix are showing some staying power. Hopefully it can repeak at some point although maybe that's a big ask.
Yes @ Vera making it into the top 20 on the First Look chart. I would have liked a play of We'll Meet Again.
Break Up Song showing the staying power I predicted.
18 Harry Styles - Adore You
17 Justin Bieber feat. Quavo - Intentions
Did they have to play Intentions for a millionth time, when they could played a new entry like Vera Lynn.
18 was Adore You
16 Harry Styles - Falling
Would have quite liked to hear Vera Lynn on Radio 1 in a 2020 chart show tbh, gutted.
Harry every week with 2 singles in the top 20.
Harry has really come a long way as a vocalist. This ballad is so beautiful.
Really liking Falling (and loving Adore You) right now! Harry has a powerful voice.
15 Tones and I - Dance Monkey
14 Lil Mosey - Blueberry Faygo
13 Mabel - Boyfriend
Boyfriend needs to fall quicker! Mabel can do better than this.
Keep falling Mabel
I’m sure team Mabel are distraught over ‘Boyfriend’ - they seemed to think this would be the one especially after The Brits.
12 Dua Lipa - Break My Heart
Nathan's Flowers is NOT top 20, really?
Hope Dua can climb back Top 10 with this
A shame this is already falling. Not been quite as big as the other two singles. Hopefully ‘Hallucinate’ will be the next single!
Break My Heart out of the top ten . Hope it can re-enter the top 10 but it looks like Blueberry Faygo will leapfrog it as the week progresses.
11 Sam Smith & Demi Lovato - I'm Ready
Lovin' this new Sam & Demi song.
The chorus to this lets down the verses but still better than the rest of Sam's output this past year. Wish they could go back in the studio to make a better chorus though. A Part II version.
Not keen on this duet but makes a change from being blandfest
Still gutted that I Feel Love stalled at 77.
Not really feeling this at all.
I really like the verses to I'm Ready but I can't get into that chorus.
10 Doja Cat - Say So
It almost sounds like 2 separate songs the verses and the chorus!
SAY SO *.*. DOJA STILL SLAYING THE TOP 10!
9 Joel Corry - Lonely
A bit tired of Lonely now.
Lonely needs to get out of the top ten already! Bored of it.
8 Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now
Only 3 places but seems like a big drop for DSN haha!
DON'T START NOW We love a ACR rule breaker!
Glad that both Lonely and DSN are falling this week!
7 Powfu feat. beabadoobee - death bed (coffee for your head)
Yes at Powfu still holding up very well.
I hate coffee but love this song.
These presenters are pretty bad haha!
Guess that means Blinding Lights is knocked off #1 as Powfu is the non-mover?
Death Bed (Coffee For Your Head) just gets worse for me every time I hear it.
6 Dua Lipa - Physical
Streaming data is often missing isn’t it so sales wise blinding lights definitely won’t be #1
Physical still smashing it! It took a while to grow on me but when you connect with the song, it becomes addictive.
5 Drake - Toosie Slide
Toosie = snoozefest
Bye Drake
That Lil Mosey track is Top 5
Yes Drake falling.
Bye bitch!
4 Beth Porch - You Taught Me What Love Is
OMG! I'm speechless!
This is cute, good for Beth. I won't listen to this out of choice though.
This has to be the biggest surprise of the week
Beth Porch !!!!
Wow.
Hats off to the uk for being so genorous.
Has to be one of the most unusual midweek charts ever for variety.
Hope Break My Heart can sneak back into the top 10 so Dua can break the record for most constructive weeks with 3 top 10s
This is really sweet! Enjoyed on BGT last night too. Hope it manages a good showing come Friday!
Well done Beth! Phenomenal voice.
Wow surprised this managed to get so high so quickly, it must've only had a couple hours of sales accounted for
What are the chances Beth will be lower than 30 come Friday?
So different from what's in the charts at the moment, its a lovely track
3 SAINt JHN - Roses
Roses still slayin'
This song doesn't get old.
Does Beth Porch not have the title in brackets (BRITAIN'S GOT TALENT LIVE RECORDING) like itunes has it or is it not necessary
2 The Weeknd - Blinding Lights
1 Michael Ball, Captain Tom Moore & The NHS Voices of Care Choir - You'll Never Walk Alone
The fact Beth made it so high when it's only selling a third of Michael makes me think the latter might be very far ahead
Whenever we think the days of charity singles #1s are over, an unexpected event will always take place that ensures massive sales for another one
If Abel gets dethroned this week only to climb up again next week...
This top 5 is very remarkable.
Theres something about why Youll Never Walk Alone is succesful every time a version is released.
I loved The Crowd version back in the 80s
And potentially michael balls first number one single beating his debut song Love Changes Everything
All for supporting the NHS etc. but that hurt my ears!
I hope Michael makes it, parly because it would cool to see a song likely get 4 stints at #1 in Blinding Lights
Such an amazing #1!!! Good on you Captain!
This is the 4th version to hit #1 if it stays there on Friday
Gerry & The Pacemakers
The Crowd
Robson & Jerome (It was a Triple A side at the time with Saturday Night At The Movies and What Becomes of a Broken Hearted)
Already being reported in all mainstream media - this is such a good news story that it will be covered heavily and hopefully encourage downloads
https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2020/04/19/captain-tom-moore-set-claim-number-end-weeknds-chart-reign-charity-single-12578764/amp/
Come on people. Let’s get Captain Tom to #1. If he gets #1, it would be #1 for his 100th birthday next Thursday
Michael Ball & Captain Tom Moore on 36,000, The Weeknd on 14,000
Source: OCC
I just got a phone news update saying he was ALREADY no.1. Interestinf thwy released that on a Sunday, when a lot will believe the official charts are still released this. Lying fake media!!
Unless the list I found is out of date this will be only the 5th song to get to #1 in three or more different versions ('Do They Know It's Christmas?' and 'Unchained Melody' did it 4 times each and 'With A Little Help From My Friends' and 'Spirit In The Sky' 3 times each). Assuming it holds on of course (which it looks like it very likely will if it's on 36k sales already).
Who'd have ever seen Michael Ball racking up multiple #1 albums and even a potential #1 single in the past couple of years
I was expecting Nathan Dawe to re-peak
Katherine/Vera have started to fall on iTunes now - really hope they can stay Top 40 for Friday would be great to see Vera return to the Top 40 after 60+ years!
I would be curious to know if there is anyone out there who's a devoted follower of the Big Top 40 and really into chart stats etc. who legitimately thinks it's more important than the actual charts :') I'm sure there's probably at least one somewhere...
Yeah would be nice to see vera stay top 40 but as TYBP dropped from 5 to 34 by week end I really dont see it happening
Must be only one that likes the simplicity of demi Smith's chorus
Really happy for this weeks number 1 however slightly Pissed of Dua lipa hasn’t managed a number 1 with her 3 banging tunes.
True but at least she has had previous number 1 singles.
Can Michael Ball hold on to No 1 with no streams? Will be interesting to see how far ahead he is tomorrow. Based on last weeks numbers he's guaranteed Top 5 already but he needs LadBaby type numbers to be Number 1. What do people think his chances are?
They're at #163 on Apple Music (peaked at around #110 this morning) - so not completely absent from streaming.
Certainly doing better than I expected on there.
I think they might just about go to #1 and possibly get an extra week top 40 as well.
It’s nice to see growth in pure sales though regardless of what the track is its nice to see there is still some of market for it.
Just the other day my mam was saying how he’ll be #1 and chart master me was giving it all but you don’t know how the chart works he won’t get playlist support and iTunes means nothing. Oops I was wrong x
It would be nice to see a track like this go to #1. Yes not to everyone's taste. It's a tonic that is needed during this time.
^^ In fairness most media outlets have stated he’s #1 - some mentioning the Big Top 40 but others just outright claiming he has the top spot - ITN, Metro, Mirror, Daily Mail, The Sun, Express, and Daily Record. The only one stating he’s set to hit the top spot is the Evening Standard.
I guess the media don’t care at the moment though tbh, it’s makes a nice news story although it would be better if they were encouraging people to buy it rather than claiming victory.
Everyone on my friends list is now very aware that he isn't #1 officially yet
I have a questions, do youtube streams count for chart positions?
The media (and artists themselves) repeatedly confuse/deliberately ignore the difference between The Big Top 40 and the Official Chart. I feel like it's a distinction only chart followers understand. I always see "so and so number 1 on charts", and I know (because I'm a geek) that they mean the Big Top 40. It's frustrating because we live in a world where people read a headline, take it as gospel and it becomes fact.
^yes
While unofficial videos or other user-generated content will not count towards artist streams - official videos played on YouTube, Apple, Tidal and Spotify will.
The new rules will kick in on Friday 29 June, 2018 and have been approved by record labels and BBC Radio 1, which broadcasts the chart each Friday.
Shame that change isnt in now as the consumer trends are different now to normal times.
https://www.itv.com/news/2020-04-19/war-veteran-tom-moores-charity-cover-on-course-for-number-one/
ITV News are mixing up statistics from both charts
Looks like we’re getting another charity single for the ‘Big Night In’ event. Radio 1 have done a ‘Stay Home Live Lounge’ session with loads of singles covering ‘Times Like These’ by the Foo Fighters.
All you f**king w***rs who didnt want Big Top 40 to be #1 suck my d!!!
Official Charts didnt f**king deserve it again,, PATHETIC just like all you Big Top 40 haters!!!

Did Break Up Song fall from the Top 20?
Gerry Cinnamon would have beaten Gaga to number 1.
Great to see Gerry Cinemon in the Top 40 singles, hope he can hold on in there.
Get in Gerry on the albums!
Looks like Where We're Going will miss the Top 40 though :/
Disappointed Tequila has gone backwards but pleased Beth Porch held up and should be guaranteed Top 40 spot (using Matt Lucas numbers as a guide)
Rina not Top 40 isn't surprising but still really gutting to see
if only Sketchers and Becky Hill could stay out of the top 40
Has Kings & Queens fallen?
edit: I hope it stays in the top 40!
Wow, Enter Shikari have already beaten the first week sales of their last album - much, much better than I was expecting them to do, their sales are going to be extremely frontloaded obviously but given Dua only did 11.8k last week they look like they have a great chance of hanging onto #2. Anyone have any insight on how they might have managed this? (Looking to RabbitFurCoat as you seem to know a lot about artists like this with surprisingly good sales though I don't know if you're particularly a fan of Enter Shikari )
Pretty good sales for Gerry Cinnamon too of course, though I was expecting/hoping 'Where We're Going' to be a little higher at this stage, looking like it might still miss the top 40 now.
great sales for Enter Shikari looks like that'll be enough to stay at #2
good sales for Gerry Cinnamon, hope he can manage to stay top 40 in singles somehow
well he's doing better the other newies below him (Playboi Carti, Nafe Smallz, Ava Max)
Fiona Apple heading to her first top40 album, possibly . Her highest peak was in 1999, #46 with... get ready: When the Pawn Hits the Conflicts He Thinks Like a King What He Knows Throws the Blows When He Goes to the Fight and He'll Win the Whole Thing 'fore He Enters the Ring There's No Body to Batter When Your Mind Is Your Might So When You Go Solo, You Hold Your Own Hand and Remember That Depth Is the Greatest of Heights and If You Know Where You Stand, Then You Know Where to Land and If You Fall It Won't Matter, Cuz You'll Know That You're Right.
On the singles side, Miss Ava needs to step up her streaming so she can ensure a top40 entry this week.
Thought Duke Dumont may be in the top 40 in the first mids but it seems not. His star has really fallen.
And like I mentioned before on here who would have thought that after I Got U with Jax Jones going in the opposite direction!
Great sales for the #1 in both charts
Wow great to see Nightwish possibly reaching top 20
Enjoying seeing acts like michael ball, vera Lynn and katherine Jenkins in the singles chart as it's a rare moment. Gerry cinnamon has great album sales which seems even better with how things are. Enter shikari also have impressive number 2 sales.
Loving those sales for the Top 2 albums especially as they will be so physical format led
And a 12k increase on yesterday for Captain Tom - we love to see it.
The remake of YNWA is actually not bad at all and am glad it will hopefully be No.1.
Great sales for Gerry, Radio 1 will have a field day if Gerry releases Canter as a single just listening to it now.
Too many charity singles around at the moment, the No.1 its not that perfect, but in the light of what is happening in the world its quite fitting, It seems strange I'm sharing my birthday with Captain Tom Moore I feel so honorable to a war veteran. I just hope we don't have a new charity track every week, as I can see another new charity track is going to be released this Thursday a cover of the Foo Fighters track, I quite like the original.
Really hoping Ava breaks top 40 this week. Deserves better than #41 as a peak.
Also rooting for Rina Sawayama on the albums. One of my fave discoveries of the year.
Very happy with a potential 4th week in Top 20 for Little Mix again without any of the promotion they usually rely heavily on. Great to see them back on form - so rare for a pop group to achieve this after almost a decade in the game.
re: Duke Dumont - losing his relevance as a chart act was basically his own decision, he did an interview with Billboard recently where he basically says he lost his interest in getting chart hits and would rather just make whatever he wants to. he very easily could have taken the path of Jax Jones and kept getting smashes, especially after Ocean Drive which was a huge hit worldwide (500m+ YT, 250m+ Spotify).
I don't think anyone (except Drake and Ed Sheeran) get smashes EASILY.
Selena Gomez's "Boyfriend" out?
From Music Week -
I think based on sales from 3 days, Michael and Tom will end up just break 80k after a last minute push later on In the week which should see them scrape the #1
Shame Ava isn’t higher than she was last week as it means she’ll likely just miss out again. A slightly better Spotify push could easily ensure this goes top 40
So I'm all for cute acts of kindness but couldn't they have come up with something more appealing to listen to?
Crazy to think this will be Fiona Apple's first ever top 40 album! (Assuming it does stay in)
Lewis is getting far too close to overtaking Dua in the albums for my liking, I'm hoping for another 3 or 4 weeks or her being ahead of him
Ya I hope dua can keep ahead of lewis.
Good to see the deluxe edition of Script For A Jester's Tear as high as number 7.
Is Duke Dumont in the top 100 at all with the album?
It's on it. Apparently the vinyl has the extended version but the CD/download has the normal single mix.
And re my original star has fallen comment - I just meant in terms of going from a sure fire #1/#2 artist to not managing a top 40 album, in fact probably much much lower. It doesn't mean I don't like the music, I think the album's pretty decent... love the full version of Therapy and the last few tracks on the album, there isn't anything I feel the need to skip.
I wish so much that Duke Dumont had been getting hits over the years since then instead of someone like, say Jonas Blue.
He's pretty much never put a foot wrong for me musically.
Didn't Duke Dumont say for years he wasn't going to make an album?
I wonder if he'll wish he hadn't bothered now.
^yes they count
Marillion will fade away pretty quickly now though - all the versions are out of stock on their website so will just be any additional sales they pick up from Amazon.
I hope Ava max stays in the top 40 but I want vera Lynn to stay also.

No Amazon or Apple data for yesterday hence Ava dropping back out
Could Gerry out-sell 5SOS and Dua's first week? Would be really impressive if he could do so
Even with the missing data Beth holding on to top 5 is very impressive, she might even be able to hold on top 20 which would be a great result - she's only 3.2k behind last week's #21 sales
Vera Lynn still just about in the top 40 then, just a shame it looks like she won't get a place there at the end of the week.
And those are really high figures for Michael Ball and Captain Tom, think they've got this week's number one single in the bag now! Words I never thought I'd be saying even a week ago
Wonder where that would put Michael Ball in the list of "longest time to get a UK #1 from chart debut" then (31 years). There was a thread on this very subject on here not too long ago. He'd be just behind Ozzy Osbourne that's for certain.
Are LM still top 20?
Amazing sales for Michael & Captain Tom Video was released to YouTube yesterday so that will get it a few streaming points too. Would loved to have seen Vera Lynn make the Top 40 too!
The last single to sell over 100k is Ed Sheeran & Justin Bieber with I Don't Care on 124k
Can YNWA break 100k by the end of the week, hmmm... could come pretty close
Artists For Grenfell did 170k
yesterday I noticed Michael Ball's You'll never walk alone was new at #15 on the Youtube chart, and now up to #10
but just realised it's not the new version, but an old version with Alfie Boe...
so not sure if those streams count??
Come on Captain Tom! Get that well deserved #1
Looking good for captain tom but I remain cautious of missing streams. Hope gerry cinnamon can hang on in the top 40.
With what’s going on in the world, I wonder what the chart would have been like if we were still in the physical era
Are Duas all still top 12?
Hope Dua stays top three on the album chart!
I just hope that Physical doesn’t hit ACR before DSN
Sales holding up well for Ball/Tom another 10k, prob needs to break 70-75k for no1 as the Weekend's sales are down this week. Don't think itll break 100k as Martin was saying.
Gerry Cinnamon album doing 2k a day now so a chance of 30k which is impressive. Hope the single can hold in the top 40, stayed 34 today so hopefully.
How far ahead is Beth Porch to the rest of the top 10? Is it likely she will be able to stick within top 10 by end of week or more likely somewhere in the teens?
Kelly clarkson not gonna trouble the top 100 is she shame really
Any updates for the strokes?thanks
How likely is Harry to stay at 14 with Falling?? Do you know how far a head he is??
Just saw that Boss Bitch had fallen out the top 40 in yesterdays mids - hope it has't already peaked and begins start falling fast
According to OCC, the Weeknd is only 18k behind Captain Tom. The Weeknd can piss off trying to stop Captain Tom getting #1
The article is saying the gap's closed by about 9k then (to 18k now, Captain Tom on 60k apparently), part of that might be the missing streaming data for yesterday's update being added I guess.
Ugh! Have downloaded from iTunes but going to download from Amazon too - Michael/Captain Tom have to get the #1!
Captain Tom deserves his #1 for his 100th !
that doesn't make sense... they were on 58.7k yesterday, cannot be on 60K today, sure they did more than 1.3k on iTunes yesterday
-----
Captain Tom Moore's battle for this week's Official Number 1 single in the UK is heating up, with the gap between the Top 2 narrowing today (April 22).
According to the latest sales and streaming data compiled by the Official Charts Company, The Weeknd's Blinding Lights is catching up to Captain Tom Moore and Michael Ball's You'll Never Walk Alone, who still hold the lead with 60,000 chart sales accrued so far this week.
However, just over 18,000 chart sales now separate the two, compared to a gap of 27,000 yesterday (April 21). Captain Tom Moore leads the way on downloads, while The Weeknd proves himself a powerhouse on streaming. Can the 99 year-old war veteran and one-man fundraising machine fight off The Weeknd to claim victory on this Friday’s Official Singles Chart?
They had a lot of red and dark red Kworb updates yesterday so it’s possible I guess - also the general public seem to think it’s already #1 so hopefully the news that it’s not in the bag yet might get people downloading!
I just downloaded another from Amazon - I never usually download but it’s a good cause and it would be lovely to see him get the top spot.
yesterday they were doing 6 times more than The Weeknd on iTunes, should be at least 5K...
today they've really slowed down, now it's like 3 times more than The Weeknd, so just 2-3K today...
Less than 2k sales from yesterday does seem quite sudden if true considering how it's been doing so far this week!
Shame Captain Tom’s not doing anything on streaming
would be a bit of a shame if they fall at the last hurdle and end up missing #1 but I suspect they'll do a last minute push tomorrow with the knowledge that they're not as safe a #1 as they may have thought?
Tom just needs 5sos’ fans to get on board, then he’ll definitely have it in the bag
2 hours ago BL was still at 0.29 on Kworb
Have just looked at LivePopBars and No2 is at 0.62 on Tom
Looks like Tom may well be flagging at the last minute which is what I thought would happen
I do want them to get the No1 but is it on the bag yet given the phantom Thursday syndrome?
it surprised me as well
^^ Exactly, if YNWA does 80k and BL does 70k, that's more money raised than if they did say 60k and 50k.
I only just saw Tom had a chance at #1, didn’t realise he’d even released a single!! Incredible times
If Lad Sausage Roll guy can get two #1s, surely Tom can secure the top spot
Sales collapsing by over 80% in one day? Oof
I think it'll still hold on but that'll probably now be more reliant on it having a final day push than I thought x
Is Sawayama top 100 yet? I noticed she was doing exclusive UK vinyls. Only 500 but I assume that would be enough to get her charting if people bought them. I was expecting a Top 40, shame if she even missed 100. Excellent album.
Has Rina had any mainstream exposure beyond one song making the Radio 1 C-List? I'm not really sure where people were getting expectations for her to chart from, I get the sense she's pretty much entirely unknown outside certain Internet circles.
Maybe slightly surprising that she wasn't even top 100 in the mids from whatever fanbase she has but I definitely wouldn't have predicted her to be top 40.
I had no idea who Rina was until I seen this thread but I’m gonna check the album out based on the strong reviews it’s had on here.
She might be someone who takes off after a televised performance somewhere though isn’t what got Christine & The Queens more exposure.
Shame we’re not still in the physical era as I wonder what the charts would be like if we were still in the physical era
You'll Never Walk Alone has 61.7k so far and Blinding Lights 43.0k. Not quite as low for YNWA as the OCC made out in the article then!
From Music Week online -
Ava Max #38
thats more like it but if they didn't even do 4K yesterday while doing 6 times more than the Weeknd on iTunes,
it means today they probably even did 2k (they're doing just 3 times more than the Weeknd)
so unless they do a final push, The Weeknd could easily catch as he's doing nearly 9k a day and has the extra day of missing streams still to be added
Dropping to 4K sales daily for Ball/Tom!

NO OTHER SALES INFO
is there a chance for Break My Heart going top 10?
I'm shocked that Sam/Demi have dropped all the way down to #20 over the course of the week. I honestly thought it was a dead cert Top 10 debut when I first heard it!
I wonder if 'Where We're Going' will manage to hang on to the Top 40? It'll probably just miss out I reckon.
Is Anne Marie out of the top 40 now
I thought Where We're Going would end up missing the Top 40 when it wasn't top 30 on Monday, it's a shame... not yet heard it on R1 at all btw, how do they edit the last line of the chorus?
That's not good for Sam/Demi with the video out and the cover and top position on Today's Top Hits. But it's what the song deserves, honestly. Terrible chorus.
Fiona Apple coming to get that first ever top 40 album in the UK!
Critically acclaimed queen
COME ON AVA, scrape yourself another top 40!
Tom and ball have really slowed down it needs a lift to secure number 1. I hope ava max and gerry cinnamon hang into the top 40.Album sales are bad outside top 2 although I'd say 500 sales could make big dif lower down the chart in chart position.
I'm willing it as its a good song.
Hope Ava does make the top 40, I'll be irked if it gets saddled with a #41 peak.
Little Mix still top 20
Hope Sam & Demi scrape the top 20
The Weeknd gained 9000 on Tom today. At that rate it could well be a dead heat on Friday. Will phantom Thursday stream syndrome mean the Weeknd snatches the No1 at the last minute?
Yes imo
Decca have sent out an email to their database - the first part of the email encourages people to watch the video on YouTube so they obviously know that will get them a few streaming sales, they also link the iTunes and Amazon downloads - some morning TV media coverage would help give it a final push tomorrow.
I think Rina has a good chance of continuing to be supported by R1 now she's on their radar (even if that's just repeatedly stalling on the C-List).
It will be so sad if they don’t get the #1 spot The Weekend has had more than enough time there now...
At a guess, sales today will be:
1: YNWA - 65k
2: BL - 52k
and if missing Wednesday streams were included in the midweeks, 'Blinding Lights' would be on 60k
but unfortunately when the Thursday sales / streams are included on Friday it will be:
1: BL: 71-73k
2: YNWA 67k
I hope I'm wrong though!
Radio 2's Breakfast Show encouraged listeners again to buy YNWA this morning, mentioning that it's a close fight for number one. They're clearly doing what they can to give it that last push!
Michael Ball is still doing the same as yesterday on iTunes, roughly 3 times more than Blinding Lights
so there has not been much effect if he's pushing for more sales
I mean yesterday's push
What’s so appealing about BL? I don’t find the song great at all
I have a feeling that The Weeknd is going to pip Michael/Captain Tom at the last minute There has been no late surge yet for downloads it seems and even the fact Captain Tom got awarded the Pride Of Britain award today hasn’t caused media to talk about the single etc.,
the occ are doing their bit to help too... the article says the difference today is "a few thousands"
Captain Tom Moore's race for Number 1 looks to be going right down to the wire as The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights is forecast to overtake the 99 year-old war veteran during the course of today, according to the Official Charts Company.
Downloads of You'll Never Walk Alone, Captain Tom’s duet with Michael Ball and The NHS Voices of Care Choir in aid of NHS Charities Together, have slowed down across the week, allowing The Weeknd's Blinding Lights to quickly catch up. While Captain Tom leads on this morning’s latest Official Charts sales flash, just a few thousand chart sales now separate the two songs.
The Weeknd’s reigning chart topper is proving a major powerhouse on streaming services, and with more streaming data to be added in at the end of the week, the Official Charts Company forecast this will tip the lead in favour of The Weeknd during the course of today. At this late stage of the week a Number 1 single is looking less likely for Captain Tom by the time tomorrow’s chart is published.
Downloads of You'll Never Walk Alone would need to accelerate significantly throughout today if it is still to be in with a chance of securing Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart for the 99 year-old war veteran’s 100th birthday.
The cut-off for sales and streams to count towards this week’s chart is midnight tonight. The final Official Chart Top 40 will be unveiled on BBC Radio 1’s Official Chart with Scott Mills this Friday from 4pm, with the full Official Singles Chart Top 100 published on OfficialCharts.com from 5.45pm.
They certainly are trying to help! Not often do they give a "forecast" on Thursday for who will be number one
I do wonder how much 'a few thousand' might be as well, I find it unlikely that BL suddenly closed the gap by around 15k if it only managed 11k yesterday with missing data added too
The download surge is back in full force so I wouldn’t worry tbh x
That 'few thousand' is probably going to turn out to be like 10k+, they're just being overdramatic I reckon. x
In any case the final day boost for YNWA is coming through now (it was always bound to happen somehow even if that one Michael Ball tweet yesterday seemed to have nearly no effect) so it should very much still be safe.
Just noticed the title of that OCC article is 'The Weeknd now expected to dash Captain Tom Moore's Number 1 hopes' definitely overdramatic...
Nothing like the OCC to get a chart battle into action and those extra paid for sales. Zoe Ball has just tweeted about it telling people it’s close and to download.
pretty sure it's not that close today
it's also funny how the occ tells people to go download the NHS single, they know no one is streaming it
Presumably they also know that Thursday streams don't actually count for anything...
(not from the biggest streaming services anyway)
Also a stream isn't going to give anything to the charity and it's obviously easier to make up a chart sale by purchasing than it is to stream.
According to LivePop the ratio is,
1:0.4849187935
So YNWA downloading is over twice The Weeknd.
I’d love it if Captain Tom was #1 then The Weeknd went back to #1 getting that fourth run at the top.
Has a #1 single ever had four separate runs at the top (not counting Three Lions)?
Are Thursday YouTube and Spotify streams not included in the final pubished chart?
And of course there's a great chance Three Lions returns to #1 again... eventually.
How many songs apart from BL have been Number 1 three times in the same chart run?
Yeah I'm pretty sure it's LPB that are wrong - Blinding Lights was on 0.61 and 0.62 all morning on LPB then suddenly dropped to 0.48 when it fell to #3, and the new #2 (Times Like These) is on 0.63
Despacito had 3 sure too
Frankie Laine's record-holding run at number one with I Believe managed that too.
Plus Justin Bieber's 'What Do You Mean', although I'm happy to forget that one existed.
Looks like the Weeknd is backing Captain Tom for #1 tomorrow. He tweeted it on his twitter account
Good on him!
Indeed he is! No more blaming The Weeknd then
I wish was Alfie boe and Michael ball sing song with nhs choir than would get behind it
That’s nice of him
Loving “ In your eyes” Do we think this could be another number 1 for The Weeknd? Loving the 80s vibes
Very good cause etc. but I'll forever hate the song in any format due to its connection with Liverpool football club
The OCC are literally getting hysterical with their updates atm Their latest updates talks about a ‘shocking plot twist’
The Weeknd just really wants that fourth stint at the top
Gosh the OCC have been frothing with excitement with this chart battle.
People seem to have switched from Tom to the R1 single and Tom is now only 25% ahead of the Weeknd (0.28 to 0.03). Bit annoyed at them for releasing on Thursday if it stops the R1 single charting high !
Well it did just have the music video premiere on a big night charity fundraiser.
The Weeknd didn't necessary have to do this but he may have been told to.
Eitger way I hope it got captain tom some sales
It is nice of the weekend to do but wouldnt ot have been nicer to do like sun/monday i.e. earlier in the week not the day before the charts are compiled
You guys are taking it too far now lol
I don't think Weeknd himself knew about it until that moment he posted, so give him a credit for that.
He had an option not to say anything at all as well!!!
Yes at Abel posting that!
Im fairly confident he had no idea and was told to post that. Like with Bieber in 2015.
