The Christmas Day edition of Top Of The Pops from 1973 is on BBC4 on Christmas Eve. Guess what the number 1 song from the weekly charts from back then will be?! Yup, this song by Slade!

This will probably be the quietest Christmas chart show thread ever on Buzzjack, too little movement and the same songs played as last week drama.gif

I thought 'Rockstar' would still be top 5 by the end of the year tbh, glad it's not although I love the song now.

Biography

James Andrew Arthur (born 2 March 1988) is a British singer and songwriter who won the ninth series of The X Factor in 2012. His debut single, "Impossible", was released by Syco Music after the final and debuted at number one on the UK Singles Chart in its first week of release. Since then, it has gone on to sell over 1.4 million copies in the UK, making it the most successful winner's single in the show's history and has sold over 2.5 million copies worldwide. The follow-up single "You're Nobody 'til Somebody Loves You" reached number 2 on the UK Singles Chart. He released his self-titled debut studio album in November 2013. The album debuted and peaked at number two on the UK Albums Chart.

After the release of his debut studio album James Arthur, he was involved in a series of controversies. This led iTunes to offer refunds for the album. The single release "Recovery" made to number 19, while the sales for the fourth single "Get Down" hardly made the top 100. Arthur parted ways with Simon Cowell's record label Syco in 2014. In 2015, he signed a new deal with Columbia Records to release his second studio album in 2016, titled Back from the Edge. Arthur was also re-signed to Syco in 2016.

I wonder if James Arthur will pick up after Christmas. I could see him getting a decent gift card boost, his fanbase is of that demographic, but Naked doesn't seem to be catching on quite so well. Maybe it's just being snowed under right now with Christmas, we'll see!

Biography

Marshall Bruce Mathers III (born October 17, 1972), known professionally as Eminem (often stylized as EMINƎM), is an American rapper, songwriter, record producer, and actor.

Eminem is the best-selling artist of the 2000s in the United States. Throughout his career, he has had 10 number-one albums on the Billboard 200 and five number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100. With US sales of 47.4 million albums and 42 million tracks as of June 2014, Eminem is the second best-selling male artist of the Nielsen SoundScan era, the sixth best-selling artist in the United States and the best-selling hip-hop artist. Globally, he has sold more than 172 million albums, making him one of the world's best-selling artists. Rolling Stone ranked him 83rd on its list of 100 Greatest Artists of All Time, calling him the King of Hip Hop.

After his debut album Infinite (1996) and the Slim Shady EP (1997), Eminem signed with Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment and subsequently achieved mainstream popularity in 1999 with The Slim Shady LP, which earned him his first Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His next two releases, 2000's The Marshall Mathers LP and 2002's The Eminem Show, were worldwide successes, with each being certified diamond in U.S. sales, and both winning Best Rap Album Grammy Awards—making Eminem the first artist to win the award for three consecutive LPs. They were followed by Encore in 2004, another critical and commercial success. Eminem went on hiatus after touring in 2005, releasing Relapse in 2009 and Recovery in 2010. Both won Grammy Awards and Recovery was the best-selling album of 2010 worldwide, the second time he had the international best-selling album of the year (after The Eminem Show). Eminem's eighth album, 2013's The Marshall Mathers LP 2, won two Grammy Awards, including Best Rap Album; it expanded his record for the most wins in that category and his Grammy total to 15.

In addition to his solo career, Eminem is an original member of the Midwest hip hop groups Soul Intent and D12. He is also known for his collaborations with fellow Detroit-based rapper Royce da 5'9"; the two are collectively known as Bad Meets Evil. Eminem has developed other ventures, including Shady Records, with manager Paul Rosenberg, which helped launch the careers of artists such as 50 Cent. Eminem has also established his own channel, Shade 45, on Sirius XM Radio. In November 2002, he starred in the hip hop film 8 Mile, which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song, for "Lose Yourself", becoming the first rap artist to win the award. Eminem has made cameo appearances in the films The Wash (2001), Funny People (2009), The Interview (2014) and the television series Entourage (2010).

The British Hit Singles & Albums stated that Rea was "one of the most popular UK singer-songwriters of the late 1980s. He was already a major European star by the time he finally cracked the UK Top 10 with his 18th chart entry; The Road to Hell (Part 2)". As of 2009, he has sold more than 30 million albums worldwide.

In the U.S. he is best known for the 1978 hit song "Fool (If You Think It's Over)" that charted No.12 on the Billboard Hot 100 and spent three weeks at No.1 on the U.S. Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. This success earned him the Grammy Award nomination for the Best New Artist in 1979. His other hit songs include, "I Can Hear Your Heartbeat", "Stainsby Girls", "On the Beach" (U.S. Adult Contemporary No.9), "Let's Dance", "Josephine", "Driving Home for Christmas", "Tell Me There's a Heaven", "Auberge", "Looking for the Summer", "Winter Song", "Nothing To Fear", "Julia", "Working On It" (Mainstream Rock No. 1), and "If You Were Me", a duet with Elton John.

Two of his studio albums, The Road to Hell and Auberge, topped the UK Albums Chart. Rea was nominated three times for the Brit Award for Best British Male Artist: in 1988, 1989 and 1990. The book Guinness Rockopedia described him as a "gravel-voiced guitar stalwart".

Little known fact: the Wizzard song you download and stream isn't the 1973 original but rather it is a 1981 remake. The master tape was lost and Roy Wood had to re-record it in 1981 when the label wanted to re-release the song. The re-recording is almost identical that it's hard to notice the difference.

Wow at Chris Rea reaching a new peak at last ohmy.gif Interesting how it's slowly got more prominent over the years, even ahead of the likes of Slade and Wizzard these days!

Does anyone know why 'Driving Home For Christmas' was pulled from Spotify in Christmas week last year? It's why it vanished from the charts when it climbed to number 26. It probably wouldn't have climbed further but it's strange how it disappeared from streaming sites.

In terms of Chris Rea, Road To Hell is much better than Driving Home For Christmas imo.

Quite intrigued as to how In Your Head has charted this high when it was nowhere near the highest album track on Spotify or iTunes thinking.gif
