Mark Cavendish has missed out on a track spot for this summer's Tokyo Olympics after not being named in Britain's squad for the World Championships in Germany.
Cavendish, 34, needed to race in a World Cup event or the Track World Championships in Berlin, which run from 26 February to 1 March, to be eligible. Jason and Laura Kenny are two of seven Olympic medallists in the 20-strong squad, along with Ed Clancy, Phil Hindes, Katie Archibald, Elinor Barker and Katy Marchant. There will be 20 gold medals on offer across the five days in Berlin. |

Mark Cavendish is not certain of a place in the 2020 Tour de France with his new team Bahrain McLaren, says their general manager Rod Ellingworth.
Cavendish, 34, was not picked for the 2019 race by previous team Dimension Data, but wants to add to his 30 stage wins to catch Eddy Merckx's record 34. |

Sadly I don't think he's ever going to reach that record, he's getting past his best and there are so many strong sprinters out there nowadays, even if he was picked it would be extremely difficult for him to get any more stages. Who knows what would have been without that crash in Harrogate back in 2014.

Four-time Olympic champion Laura Kenny chose not to have an operation on a broken shoulder so she can continue her Tokyo 2020 preparations at next week's Track World Championships.
The Briton, 27, crashed in the tempo race in the omnium at the Track World Cup in Milton, Canada on 26 January. She said a surgeon told her this year's Olympics were "pretty much off the cards" because she needed an operation. |

Just reading a thread on the riders going out of contract this season including Froome, will be interesting to see what happens to him now Ineos have three Tour de France winners on the team, certainly can't see him being happy to settle for domestique duty.
Also looking forward to seeing Israel Cycling Academy in the Grand Tour this year, wonder if we'll get any riders actually from Israel in the teams though... |

Fantastic gold for Elinor Barker although it does look like GB are on the way down in terms of track cycling, can't begrudge these new stars though!

The Tour de France has been rescheduled for the 29th August - 20th September
Delighted it's still happening, I was almost certain we weren't getting one this year. |
