Welcome to the confirmation stage of the Buzzjack Song Contest, straight out of Rozinki in the glorious country of Republic Of Adonia! Here you will submit your song to the masses and show off some cool music in the process! Republic of Adonia feels very honoured to be able to host the 71st edition of the famed song contest.
As Republic of Adonia emerged as the victors of the last contest, their song will directly qualify to the final, and depending on whether we have an even number of entrants Aeroche might also be eligible for auto-qualification.
The deadline is December 10th at 23:59 GMT, failure to submit your entry before the deadline will lead to your song not being entered in this contest.
If you do not send any MP3's there will not be any repercussions but it will be kind of a hassle to assemble the MP3's myself!

~ 1 ~ please check your entry against the veto framework that is elegantly displayed http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=161658. It would save the mod squad from the inner turmoil that is checking to see if songs are eligible for a veto and your own mental state while waiting to see if your song gets veoted or not by choosing a COMPLETELY inspired song (I don't know why I'm advocating that though because I'm sure the majority of my entries have had a handful of veto points and and my planned entry for BJSC LXVIII that was stolen and vetoed but ~) instead of being that one person who ignores this warning and falls into a deep depression desperately trying to find a replacement for their vetoed song.

~ 3 ~ do not (note the lack of please) send a song by an artist that finished Top 3 last month (Josef Salvat, Henry Saiz, Billon, or Maxine Ashley) as along with being vetoed you will be exposed for being cheap. (not really)

I'd say this is probably the best way to go. If I had confirmed within the first three minutes of the thread opening but found out someone had sent the entry early and they got it I'd be a bit annoyed.
I haven't received a PM yet so I'm assuming either my entry isn't the duplicate or I was first to it.

Had a minor heart attack with my internet going down just as I realised confirmation was open, but I'm all sent now, and I think the only way someone could have taken my entry is if one of the two people I had listen to it has been sneaky and I know one of them wouldn't. Just not sure about Yu.

If someone else confirms Patvia's entries within the first hour or so, then Patvia lose it. After that hour or so then Patvia get to keep it.
We did that in the past in the interests of fairness. People shouldn't be allowed to gain an unfair advantage in a confirmation battle.

While it can technically be worked around I just recently realized that I have a meeting with a prestigious math group from 7-9pm UK time on Sundays. While I can worm my way out of it it is not the preferred option and I was wondering if three was anyway to get around it.

I think people do it to safeguard themselves just in case the PM wasn't received by the host perhaps. I've hosted in the past and seen a confirmed post in the thread and then had to PM the member because I hadn't received anything.

I want to agree (for Klum/Tirren's sake ~) but I think that'd be setting a bad precedent, it'd remove any incentive for people who DNQ in the last contest of a year to vote in the final. (Well, apart from the incentive of supporting faves of course).

I get that but i feel if you have people that really want to enter and have asked for FORGIVENESS, a slight failure 2 months ago shouldn't really impact on the start of a new year which is also the start of new records, new spreadsheets etc. The first contest of the new year should be inviting for all and we're already preventing people that want to enter from doing so, so it's not the most inviting of openings imo.
And i'd have a bit more faith in the posters here to NOT abuse the system at the end of this year, and if they do do so, then penalise them in TBO or something.

I don't really have any worries about them not voting in the final contest of 2015, it's just that once a precedent is set for this being a new year, so a new slate or whatever, then it makes it more difficult to justify one contest bans in future when some kind of viable excuse gets brought up.
Not that it really matters what we say anyway.

I would say keep the ban. It's harsh but I'd rather the rules be consistent rather than one rule for the first contest and another for everything else.
That, or ban them from voting in TBO and give their entries a point deduction

Would it be fair to close the confirmation period earlier than previously stated, I read Silas' post with the '24 hours' just belonging to the pushing it back comment but I'm probably wrong. Anyway Math, could you maybe just do it a couple of hours earlier on the Sunday (so maybe 12pm your time and 5pm UK time) so then it's all done before your meeting?

I wasn't entirely clear. I assumed that Math was referring to the end of voting in the Semi's and Finals rather than the end of confirmation. By the time we veto everything there is no point in setting a set time to launch the start of the Semi's

Our stance on the bans is the same as they are at any point of the year.
You don't want to be banned in the next contest, then vote in this one 
If there extenuating circumstances, and we're told at the time, then we will not enforce a ban (and there are examples of this from the past year).
I know it's a long time at the end of the year and I do understand the whole new slate idea, but the president is something we'd rather avoid. Punishments rolling onto TBO after the last contest are futile because only 50-60% of people actually participate in TBO so would be no real deterrent. I dislike forcing people to sit out contests, despite what you might think, as it deprives people of new music and isn't really in line with the spirit of the contest. However, without the deterrent the non-voting rates got a bit too high for comfort. The deterrent works, it ensures that after you've gone to all the effort of finding a track and then avidly listening, scoring and ranking all the others that the same respect is paid to your entry.

The naming and shaming isn't something we do as we aren't aware of who sent what (I wouldn't put those people in that position and shaming them on spotlight anyways myself). It's up to those who sent the songs to reveal themselves, and whether they wish to or not.

Last minute swap for FLJ.
I really have nothing that I both love and is suited to BJSC so I've decided to send something I'd never normally consider. It's foreign and not at all instantly catchy, not entirely the best combination but I've really grown to love it and it's parent album over the past couple of weeks.

56 is only slightly low in comparison to the last couple of contests, the record for participation was 57 until quite recently so it's not a terrible number.
Freeze usually shows up just as the deadline is about to pass but he doesn't seem to be here today eep.

The mods have to finish the veto process first and then once we're happy with the entry list we give the go ahead to the host to open the Semi-Finals. That's when everyone who isn't a BJSC Mod or Global Mod finds out what's been entered. It's also when the Mods/GM's find out who entered what.
