Lmao I'm just listening to this Lil Dicky song and it has Ed Sheeran in it for a few seconds near the end (as well as DJ Khaled and Kendall Jenner). Not gonna lie, it's a pretty funny song / video. I don't know why anyone is parting with money for it though. x

Meghan Trainor already reduced on UK iTunes, I'm guessing it could go top 10 on iTunes in the next couple of days then! Excellent choice by her label.

Exactly It's just an easy way for them to keep him up at the top of the chart for as long as possible now sales are dwindling. It isn't selling huge amounts of downloads so it's a sensible marketing strategy.

Another thing re: Louisa - as this feels like they're re-inventing/re-launching her with a complete overhaul and starting over, does it mean that IF she releases an album that the previous singles until now would be unlikely to feature (unless as bonus tracks)?

I'm pretty sure that will happen, especially if 'YES' becomes a hit.

He might not care a great deal but I'd say he's aware that he's got the #1 song in one of the biggest global music markets
I can't really blame him and/or his label for reducing the song to try and avoid ACR. I'm sceptical if it'll happen though as his streams are dropping each week and I'm not sure a small sales boost would counteract that.

This is actually true Radio playlisting, Spotify playlisting, live performances, YouTubes ads, and every other marketing strategy implemented by labels are purely used to make money. There’s no artist out there who isn’t trying to make money off their fans/the general public so it always strikes me when people like Drake or Ed Sheeran (especially these two) are slated on here for doing exactly what everyone else does

I don't know all of George Ezra's stuff, but it is different and more upbeat than Budapest and Blame It On Me imo, and it is much better than Cassie O, which I found rather annoying.

Rudimental down to 0.71, nice to see George getting such a strong lead. I really hope his Spotify numbers pick up pronto. Maybe with the album release next week that could give him a sufficient boost there and he could snatch the official #1 next week? (if he holds up on iTunes of course). Probably wishful thinking.

Gerge Ezra's album looks very promising, besides Paradise and last year's Don't Matter Now, he's released 3 grats which are all amazing, really like Pretty Shining People, hope it's the new single
Hold my Girl is also great and Saviour, his collab with First Aid Kit is even better

I think they do take into consideration social media feedback as well as spotify and youtube streaming numbers as well as getting input from the station staff (i.e producers, presenters). Don't forget Radio 1's remit is to break new music aimed at youngsters, hence the tag line 'Where It Begins'.

'Jar Of Hearts' is one of my favourite ballads ever so to see it eclipsed by 'A Thousand Years' as the go-to Christina Perri song, to the point where many people probably don't even remember her having any other songs, is rather annoying.

81: Kylie Minogue Stop Me From Falling. Next few weeks could be big for this song.
Why is there a different remix coming out every week like Dancing?

However, they are performing on the first episode of Sounds Like Friday Night, and so far I don't think they've had any artists who haven't been played on R1 recently.
There's been loads - Stereophonics and Paloma to name two!

Indeed, she just posted a picture of her baby a few days ago, born last month iirc!
I agree with Midge and Bjork, all of Christina's singles are just stunning - especially the lesser-known 'Arms'

--- Hope Shawn manages to get a huge lead to take advantage of Drake going to ACR. I feel like streaming is going to be on his side straight away too, so it's just nice that if we get a sign that it's a cert that he'll be #1 next week!
Posted by: The Hissmobile 22nd March 2018, 04:42 PM
Those Panic At The Disco songs are so poppy Wish they'd go back to stuff like their first album.
Posted by: danG 22nd March 2018, 05:04 PM
Hopefully Shawn Mendes being at #1 is just a sign of his fanbase rather than it actually being a #1 contender, and that it falls away quickly (and with it being released on a Thursday its chances of debuting at #1 are less anyway as the diehard fanbase buys won't be reflected in the chart). It sounds like a big hit though judging by the iTunes preview and will probably do well on streaming, so it's probably false hope on my part. Poor 'These Days'.

David Guetta ft. Sia also out. God's mid-tempo. And Bazzi song also out now.

He should debut fairly well off the back tomorrow by name alone and then should be helped out to climb on the NMF playlist; so he should get quite a good debut

True! I can see Radio 1 insta adding it to B list tomorrow as well, so it should get immediate radio support (obvz Capital are gonna be on board haha).
Just anything to take over Drake, that isn't 'These Days' please!!!
Posted by: Tawdry Hepburn 22nd March 2018, 06:48 PM
I'm really quite peeved Radio 1 playlisting hasn't vaulted Janelle Monáe up like I expected (as it was holding up so well on no support whatsoever).
Shawn Mendes really is massive now then. Fair play to him!

I’m sure her record label will still want to push something from the album to keep it selling through the summer festival season regardless of her collaboration with Calvin Harris.
