    Andrew's Review
Now That’s What I Call Music! 70 aka Now 70 was released in time for summer 2008 and contained 43 tracks with 6 UK #1 singles. This volume gave a string of series debuts to the likes of Dizzee Rascal, Gabriella Cilmi, The Tings Tings, Pendulum, Jordin Sparks, Will.I.Am (as a lead solo artist), Usher, Chris Brown, Ironik, The Script, Flo Rida, Wiley (as a solo artist) and September.

There were omissions during this era of 2008 from Madonna, McFly, Busta Rhymes, Nickelback, Kelly Rowland, Fall Out Boy, Adele, Freemasons, The Fratellis, Goldfrapp and Maroon 5 just to name a few.

Now 70 is the only volume in the series to feature music from Mint Royale, Sam Sparro, Sara Bareilles, Jonas Brothers, Black Kids and DJ Q.

Artwork Rating: 9/10 Amazing
Washed up on shore along with seashells, pearls and starfish, the rarely seen blue logo (last seen on Now 38) makes this beautifully composed artwork to be one of the finest and vibrant summer volumes of all time.

Disc 1 Favourite: Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome – Dance Wiv Me
The song that put Dizzee Rascal on the main stage is my standout song from this volume. It was probably the first grime single I actually really liked. It also showcased Calvin Harris at his best.

Disc 2 Favourite: Basshunter – All I Ever Wanted
Another smash hit from the hottest DJ of 2008 and this summery single, which missed out on a #1 status, is quite a highlight from summer 2008 and I enjoy it still quite often some ten years later.

Disc 3 Tracklist:
(A concept of what a third disc might look like if other hits from the era were used)

1. Madonna feat. Justin Timberlake – 4 Minutes 3:09 {1}
2. Busta Rhymes feat. Linkin Park – We Made It 3:58 {10}
3. The Last Shadow Puppets – The Age Of The Understatement 3:09 {9}
4. The Pigeon Detectives – This Is An Emergency 3:10 {14}
5. Fall Out Boy feat. John Mayer – Beat It 3:46 {21}
6. Glasvegas – Geraldine 3:45 {16}
7. The Fratellis – Mistress Mabel 3:41 {23}
8. Panic! At The Disco – Nine In The Afternoon 3:11 {13}
9. Weezer – Pork And Beans 3:09 {33}
10. MGMT – Time To Pretend 4:21 {35}
11. Courteeners – Not Nineteen Forever 4:03 {19}
12. Nickelback – Photograph 4:18 {18}
13. Sharleen Spiteri – All The Times I Cried 3:25 {26}
14. Adele – Cold Shoulder 3:11 {18}
15. Maroon 5 feat. Rihanna – If I Never See Your Face Again 3:18 {28}
16. Kanye West feat. Dwele – Flashing Lights 3:57 {29}
17. Nelly feat. Fergie – Party People 4:02 {14}
18. Flo Rida feat. Timbaland – Elevator 3:50 {20}
19. Freemasons feat. Katherine Ellis – When You Touch Me 3:15 {23}
20. Cahill feat. Nikki Belle – Trippin On You 2:48 {25}
21. Goldfrapp – Happiness 3:37 {25}
22. Radiohead – Nude 4:15 {21}
----------
Total time: 1:19:18

Overall Rating: 7/10 Very Good
I do like this volume quite a lot, the variety of music is apparent throughout the two discs. I was just a little bit disappointed that artists like Adele, Nickelback, Fall Out Boy, MGMT and Cahill got overlooked for this volume. There’s still plenty of available disc space too which was unused. However, I’m willing to overlook these matters for some great hits that were included.

Andrew's Best 5 (as of January 2018)
1. Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris & Chrome – Dance Wiv Me
2. The Ting Tings – That’s Not My Name
3. Basshunter – All I Ever Wanted

5. The Hoosiers – Cops & Robbers

Andrew's Worst 5 (as of January 2018)
1. Ironik – Stay With Me
2. The Script – We Cry
3. Mariah Carey – Touch My Body
4. Jonas Brothers – S.O.S.
5. Paul Weller – Have You Made Up Your Mind

Madonna – Give It 2 Me
Gusto – Disco’s Revenge 2008
Freemasons feat. Katherine Ellis – When You Touch Me 3:15
Cahill feat. Nikki Belle – Trippin On You
These omissions are fab! music.gif

Went for Propane Nightmares as my fave from disc 1 and Watch Out from disc 2 as my fave. Propane Nightmares is my favourite Pendulum track, just excellent both vocally and production wise and Watch Out is a great funky house tune sampling 1981's Papa's Got a Brand New Pigbag with an excellent vocal from Shena (who was like the Kelli-Leigh of the 00s), she was a featured artist on Jurgen Vries - Wilderness and Junior Jack - Stupidisco (Dare Me).

DJ Q feat. MC Bonez – You Wot!

Don't think I have heard this one before ohmy.gif

Other songs on the album I like are No Air and Take A Bow (these R&B ballads sound very nostalgic to me now), Dance Wiv Me, Better In Time (Leona's best song imo), Singing In The Rain, Black & Gold, Wearing My Rolex, All I Ever Wanted (which I much preferred at the time to Now You're Gone (now its the opposite) ) , Discolights and Cry for You. 2008 was a great year for chart music imo.

I would love to have this on CD! I see 8 songs that are among my favorites of the decade, let alone the year. 2008 was incredibly diverse for chart hits! I voted '10,000 Nights' and 'Cry For You' on the poll for each disc. The artwork is brilliant too, one of Now's best for sure. wub.gif

Not a bad volume for me and includes some great songs, though I did think 2008 was one of the poorer years of the 00's.

Top 5:-

1) Pendulum - Propaine Nightmares
2) September - Cry For You (You'll Never See Me Again)
3) Coldplay - Violet Hill
4) Dizzee Rascal feat. Calvin Harris - Dance Wiv Me
5) The Kooks - Always Where I Need To Be

Was so upset that 4 Minutes wasn't included. But loved Girls Aloud, Sugababes and Kylie all being together! Amazing pop bops!

To be fair they have never included a Madonna song on a Now CD as they can't get the rights, so I wasn't expecting it at the time.

I’ll probabaly get caned for saying this here but We Cry is actually my fav front Disc 2 kink.gif My all time favourite song from The Script and is pretty much them at their finest (as they do go downhill after Hall of Fame).

Estelle is my Disc 1 fav and brings back a lot of memories wub.gif Shame Madonna x Justin, Panic! At The Disco, MGMT, & Jay-Z missed out on being featured but I’m not too bothered about any of the other omissions. Overall it’s not bad, but I prefer 69 & 71 are far superior really

disc 1 rank:
1 American Boy [this was big back in the day]
2 Dance Wiv Me [gotta love a bit of dizzee]
3 Singin' In The Rain [*. at this getting to #1]
4 Propane Nightmares [a very inspired choice of chart hit, g'won Pendulum]
5 Closer [one of, if not his best]
6 In My Arms
7 That's Not My Name
8 Black & Gold
9 I'm Not Gonna Teach...
10 Sweet About Me

disc 2 rank:
1 Low [proper anthem!!]
2 Wearing My Rolex [choon]
3 Cry For You [will always be gutted that this was much bigger than Supermode which had the same sample but this is really great nonetheless]
4 Watch Out [another good Alex Gaudino tune, even if Destination was much better]
5 You Wot! [yes!]
6 Heartbreaker
7 Jumping All Over The World
8 Discolights
9 Toca's Miracle 2008
10 All I Ever Wanted

worst:
1 10,000 Nights [I really don't see the fuss about this song, it's quite awful]
2 Have You Made Up Your Mind [boring]
3 Denial [boring]
4 Turn It Up [lol]
5 S.O.S [well it's not as bad as you'd expect coming from the Jonas Brothers]
