BuzzJack Music Forum _ UK Charts _ Friday Chart Predictions

Posted by: SevenSeize 17th April 2021, 12:41 PM

Lil Nas X should continue his run at #1 on the singles chart for a fourth week. Elsewhere Olivia Rodrigo's deja vu may see a big climb, plus there's new tracks from Regard/Troye Sivan/Tate McRae, Royal Blood and MARINA

London Grammar could claim their second #1 with new album Californian Soil, while AJ Tracey's Flu Game looks to make a big debut. Other new releases include Greta Van Fleet's The Battle At Garden's Gate, The Offspring's Let The Bad Times Roll and Imelda May's 11 Past The Hour, plus albums from Young Stoner Life, While She Sleeps, Cannibal Corpse, Liquid Tension Experiment and Holding Absence

Breakdown of the week
- Saturday: Some information may be posted on social media but it is likely to be missing most streaming data and is unrepresentative.
- Sunday: Official First Look Chart on Radio 1 from 6-7pm. Please do not post spoilers on the forum in advance as this ruins the countdown for any listeners.
- Monday: OCC Top 100 from 5:45pm
- Tuesday: Top 40 update as and when we receive them with requests, this is NOT 100% guaranteed however. The OCC may publish sales flashes of their own accord but likewise, this is not guaranteed. Twitter and social media is your friend for today. Please post any information you find with a source. Do not nag for updates, we will post a top 40 update if we receive one.
- Wednesday: Top 40 update from Music Week from 5:45, and potential top 5 sales but this is not guaranteed.
- Thursday: See Tuesday.

Other notes (please read)
- You may make requests Tuesday to Thursday but outside the top 40, specific positions will not be revealed (unless deemed necessary by a mod).
- Please do not demand a midweek update, one will be posted as and when we receive the information. Patience is a virtue.
- Sales information will be given out as deemed necessary by a moderator, please bear this in mind when making requests. Most requests for sales will be ignored. Any chart requests between No. 41 to 100 will not be answered after Monday's update.
- To keep everyone in the loop of all chart action, please refer to the iTunes and Spotify threads.

Lil Nas X is on course to rule the Official Singles Chart for a fourth week with Montero (Call Me By Your Name).

The US artist’s second UK Number 1 single is 2,500 chart sales ahead on today’s Official Chart: First Look and is the most streamed song of the week so far.

On course for a tenth week inside the Top 10 is Friday by Riton x Nightcrawlers ft. Mufasa & Hypeman, up to Number 2 after the first 48 hours of the chart week. Friday, which has peaked at Number 4 so far, is the most downloaded song of the weekend.

Tom Grennan’s star continues to rise as his solo track Little Bit of Love is up two places to Number 6, while Ella Henderson collaboration Let’s Go Home Together may crack the Top 10 for the first time at Number 9.

On track to become this week’s highest climber is Olivia Rodrigo with Deja Vu. The second single from the US rising star’s debut album Sour released May 21 is up 14 places midweek to Number 12.

More songs looking to reach new positions this week include Masked Wolf’s Astronaut in the Ocean (11), Good Without by Mimi Webb (14), Ava Max’s My Head & My Heart (15), and Leave The Door Open by Silk Sonic (17).

I don't understand it, you can sell your album on indie stores and even at your website if you want and still counts for the charts?

This seems like it's the same situation as that Fish album a while ago - I don't see why they would be unable to make those sales count, they are just choosing not to for some reason.

The Guardian say they're using "a local distribution company for their pre-orders that isn’t recognised by the Official Charts Company" - I'm not sure why they wouldn't be recognised by them though?

Great to see London Grammar looking good for #1! And The Offspring and Greta Van Fleet in the top 10, both looking to get their highest charting albums.

Posted by: Bré 19th April 2021, 04:46 PM

Classic OCC inconsistency if the Young Stoner Life compilation is allowed to chart - it's pretty much the same deal as the Dreamville 'Revenge Of The Dreamers III' compilation that was not allowed in the chart (although that did actually appear in the first midweek update as well iirc so maybe the YSL one will also get removed by the end of the week, who knows). I guess it might be getting around it by crediting Young Thug and Gunna as artists on the album overall but there are quite a few songs on the album that feature neither of them.

Anyhoo, great to see London Grammar on course for an easy #1 as expected. Actually mildly surprised to see AJ Tracey already at #2, I thought he might be behind The Offspring and/or Greta Van Fleet in at least the first midweeks!

So deserving for London Grammar! Great album.

Posted by: Mangø 19th April 2021, 04:54 PM

So the OCC is recognising the While She Sleeps album then if it's showing at #23?

So the OCC is recognising the While She Sleeps album then if it's showing at #23?

Not all the sales would've been from the distributor that they don't recognise

So the OCC is recognising the While She Sleeps album then if it's showing at #23?

The point is it'd be at #4 if all the sales were counted, clearly there are enough fans not buying from their ineligible distribution company for it to be top 40 in today's mids.

Posted by: Bré 19th April 2021, 04:55 PM

It's only the sales from whatever their unregistered independent distributor is that wouldn't count.

edit: anyone else want to explain it as well? basil.gif

The Official Charts Company Midweek Sales Flash is in and London Grammar are the runaway leaders at the top of the albums chart.

The group recently starred on our digital cover, as Hannah Reid told Music Week her music industry story. Californian Soil has sold 24,675 copies so far, with 20,501 from physical, 2,991 from downloads and 1,183 from streams. AJ Tracey’s second full-length, Flu Game, is at No.2 with 5,725 sales, ahead of The Offspring’s Let The Bad Times Roll (4,893 sales). Imelda May’s 11 Past The Hour (3,747 sales) and Greta Van Fleet’s The Battle At Garden’s Gate (3,471 sales) complete a Top 5 full of new entries.

Lil Nas X is getting comfortable at the top of the singles chart, posting 20,278 sales for Montero (Call Me By Your Name) so far this week. Justin Bieber’s Peaches (15,785 sales) and Riton’s Friday (14,355 sales) are in the Top 3, ahead of Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta’s Bed (14,620 sales) and Nathan Evans’ Wellerman (13,514 sales).

It was delayed because of manufacturing issues / COVID was it not...? I really don't think London Grammar are the type to be that heavily invested in sales numbers lol

Hope ‘Bed’ ends up top 3 and ‘Little Bit of Love’ top5! Great to see Aurora top 40 and expect Masked Wolf to be 15/16 by Friday. Also great rise for Fred Again and ‘Anxious’ by AJ! London Grammar with a NE as well in the singles

London Grammar are motoring towards a second consecutive No.1 albums chart finish, as this week’s Top 5 is flooded with new entries.

The band are in the lead with Californian Soil, which has moved 28,268 units so far. AJ Tracey is in second spot with Flu Game (7,570 sales), while The Offspring’s new album Let The Bad Times Roll is at No.3 with 5,373 sales. Imelda May’s 11 Past The Hour (4,508 sales) and Greta Van Fleet’s The Battle At Garden’s Gate (3,949 sales) complete a congested Top 5. With perennials from Dua Lipa and Harry Styles, plus recent records from Justin Bieber and Taylor Swift waiting in the wings, it remains to be seen whether the Top 5 will still be full of new albums come Friday.

Familiar names continue to dominate the singles chart, as Lil Nas X is still flying highest with Montero (Call Me By Your Name), which has 35,910 sales so far this week. Justin Bieber’s Peaches (27,595 sales), Joel Corry, Raye and David Guetta’s Bed (23,746 sales), Riton’s Friday (22,498 sales) and Polo G’s Rapstar (20,999 sales) round out the Top 5.

Tom Jones potentially?

Posted by: steve201 21st April 2021, 05:08 PM

Yeh true, he could be a big seller, I imagine off Amazon for physicals and in shops. Maybe not big preorders though?

LG only selling 2k a day so would be only 10k next week max anyway which is the norm for big preorder releases these days.

I was just about to say that, Motorhead could be another potential if album sales are low, but its a Live album, so I doubt it

Posted by: dan::G 21st April 2021, 05:12 PM

Tom Jones will probably have no problems getting to #1 given the lack of competition and his single getting a fair bit of R2 airplay. (although in a perfect world it'd be Porter Robinson going to #1)

Royal Blood, Rag'n'Bone Man, Paul Weller to continue the run of obvious #1s after that, then we have Olivia Rodrigo vs Twenty One Pilots which is a bit harder to call.

I imagine Michael Ball could pose a challenge to Rag'n'Bone Man that week?

I think I'd put my money on Twenty One Pilots, as they seem to have a more dedicated fanbase at this point. (especially if it comes down to midweek reducing)

Posted by: steve201 21st April 2021, 05:16 PM

I would be surprised if Rag n Boneman doesn’t got number one with decent sales as the new era has been well received and is getting huge support across the radio age groups.

I would agree with 21 Pilots as they are more a fan base act and radio 1 will support!

I'm sure Michael Ball will sell a fair bit but I don't see him getting close to out-doing RnB Man.
You're probably right about TOP, now that I look it up their last album did 29,835 first week which is more than I remember and that was without a proper hit single too, I don't see Olivia pulling those kinds of numbers and I imagine TOP have retained most of their fanbase since then.

And Then there's always the possibility that Taylor Swift just drops a new album out of nowhere.

It's always been a steady trickle seller due to streaming points but the TikTok-given revival of one of its album tracks (Talking to the Moon) seems to have given it a boost
