I would have assumed it had sold far more considering how well known the song is, but I would have thought Angels had been number one either :-)

Robbie Williams does claim a curious new chart feat by achieving the fastest-selling cassette release in almost two decades, shifting nearly 10,000 copies on tape in the last seven days.
https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-50604575 However, there is a silver lining for Williams as ‘The Christmas Present’ becomes the fastest-selling cassette release in almost two decades, shifting nearly 10,000 copies on cassette in the past seven days. He tops the likes of Billie Eilish, The 1975 and Kylie Minogue who all had huge opening sales of their latest albums on the retro format. https://www.nme.com/news/music/coldplay-bea...ay-life-2582178 Is this a new trend !! And .... Meanwhile, Coldplay have said they want to play “a couple more shows” before taking time out to think about their touring future for environmental reasons. Speaking to NME after launching their latest album ‘Everyday Life’ with a series of shows in Jordan, singer Chris Martin recently confirmed that they won’t be touring the record in the traditional way. Si what we will see from Coldplay ...virtal reality tours |

Things are even better now.
Last week he already got Number 1 in Austria, so it's his first in this era. Since Swing WYW he had always been Number 1 there but THES was only Number 3. So, that's a comeback. I believe we get more this week. I think some countries will join to Austria and UK. Anyway, check his chart peaks after 1st week: Austria 1 Australia 2 Germany 2 Scotland 2 Switzerland 2 UK 2 New Zealand 3 Netherlands 6 Ireland 7 Belgium (Flanders) 7 Italy 10 Denmark 17 Czech Republic 18 Belgium (Wallonia) 21 Sweden 31 Finland 50 France 53 This post has been edited by Better Man: Dec 4 2019, 10:29 PM |

...and both artists now reached Gold (100 000) status with the albums! Robbie Williams 67k + 35,4k = 102,4k Coldplay 81k + 22,2k = 103,2k Rob is on course of 45k sales this week. Amazing! I worked out if he has around 120K sales combined for weeks one and two and there are effectively three more huge sales weeks after that leading up to Christmas - if he can average 60K on each of those weeks, he'll reach his platinum. It's not outside the realms of possibility. I'm enjoying this album so much. There are only two tracks I skip - Santa Baby and One last Christmas. I like all the other songs and there are some on there I absolutely love. I think it gels so well because of where he is with his family life and contentment. It comes straight from his heart and you can feel that. It could be corny but it doesn't feel that way. It feels genuine and heartfelt. It does to me anyway. Some of those lyrics have really touched me. When I think of all the times in the past I was so anti his releasing a Christmas album. It felt like the end of the line. Where you go when you've run out of ideas. This feels so fresh though. I've listened to it more times than probably his last three albums put together. This man NEVER fails to surprise me. |
